Being locals we called ahead to check the wait. We were told no wait come on down. We got there and they told us 35 mins wait but it might be able to sit you earlier. We decided to hit the bar and had great bar service from Nicki. The wait exceeded the 35 mins with a group of 5 seated before our group of four. The hostess came to check on us and asked if we wanted our name removed from the list because we were sitting in the bar. Very disappointed that as we sat by the bar we could see a open table available to accommodate our 4 person group. The worst was the comment from the hostess saying she knows what it's like to be "hangry". Yes that was no typo very unprofessional for someone to even say that to a guest. This place is just average compared to the other great places in this area of the Cape. I heard amazing things about the clam chowder but was very disappointed with it. It wasn't as thick as I would have liked, and there was bacon in it, which completely changed the taste. It was fine, but it wasn't anything I would have raved about. The fish was fine, but I was disappointed that they didn't have any clam strips. The chicken parm was pretty good, and another member of my party raved about the rib eye. The Huckleberry Lemonade was also very good. However, given the price and the food, next time I will try another restaurant. Just got off the dinner table. The food was good, it isn't my family first dinner here. However we received really poor service from Ryan. First one of the salads never arrived, then we waited eternity to get the check, oh don't worry about Ryan he included 18% gratuity. He though didn't bother to clean the table and as it is a very windy day today and our table was outside - the plates and food kept flying. Very disappointing. read more

We tend to go here in the shoulder months to avoid the crowds. Occasionally they have shellfish farmers to shuck as many clams or oysters as you want (delicious and very fresh) or a very reasonable specials menu. This week I ordered a fried oyster po'boy from the specials menu. Hands down the fried oysters were the best I've ever had and the portion was very generous. I tend to order them often and these were great. They close after Halloween until spring so I hoping I can get back a few more times before then. read more

I was very happy with the food and service. Not too crazy about the décor but after eating, it really didn't matter. Our waiter, I think his name was Tyler, was great! My friend and I both ordered the clam strips and they were perfect. I had a side order of scallops, too, which were terrific. Even the coleslaw was outstanding! Not too much mayo - just right. The servers weren't attentive at all. I understand they are busy with other tables but in the entire time we were there, they only came three times. We had to pay at the front desk because we couldn't wait any longer. The food is mediocre at best and there never seems to be a wait. We went to Chapins to try somewhere new.we ordered some mixed drinks, they were very good.We ordered our meals one broiled salmon which was excellent. 1 hot lobster roll which was very good but for the price i thought it could have been a little bit larger, 1 order of steak terriyaki w/ baked potato was excellent and great portions t hamburg plates were ordered and were cooked just the way they asked and tasty angus beef. This place just doesn't do it for me. I know it is a beloved, raved about staple in Dennis. I just don't know why. I was there a few weeks ago. I started with a top shelf margarita from the bar. $13. Tasted like polluted lake water. I had 3 other people taste it and it was just off. Couldn't taste any alcohol or margarita mix at all although, if you were in the mood for limes, there were 5 wedges in there so there's that I guess. I got the fisherman's platter with rice. None of the fried fish was crispy. Instead, it was that soggy "fry." Speaking of fries, I should have gotten those instead of the rice option because A) the waitress failed to tell me this was, I think, fried rice and B) while hidden well, one flip of a chunk, yes chunk, of rice revealed the entire bottom was burnt. Also, continuing along the theme of expensive, this plate was in the neighborhood of $26. I will say the coke slaw was good. It would have been better if a piece of French fry, which I didn't order, was not in the middle of it. So for me, it's a no go but, know that I'm the apparent weirdo because everyone I was with and/or who I speak to, loves it. Weird. read more

I've been coming to Chapins for quite some time and I must say, this place just keeps getting better and better. The staff, the management, the valet service, the drinks, food. everyone is super friendly. This is the place to be in Dennis, whether it's 4pm happy hour on the deck, after a day at the beach, or even on a rainy day. The live music is awesome, and you can't beat the atmosphere. This place covers every base especially with the raw bar outside. read more

I frequent Chapin's a lot year round and it's always excellent and very consistant. The burgers are among the best, the beer battered fish is moist with a crunch in the crust. Their wings are probaly the best I've had any where. This place is even busy on a February night, full of locals. The service is excellent at the bar with extremely friendly people, with only one person who is rather slow unless he really knows you. This is one of my favaorite places on the Cape. Peter B. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. I have been to this restaurant dozens of times and never had any issues other than the higher than reasonable prices. When I pulled up I was verbally accosted by a valet. He was very rude and aggressive. I explained I gad been to the restaurant before and he replied," I don't care." I left the restaurant and called the manager, Chris. He was equally unsympathetic on the phone. He stated that he had never got any complaints about the valet in question. BUT READING OTHER REVIEWS I SEE THAT WAS MENTIONED BY AT LEAST TWO OTHER REVIEWS. The manager belittled me on the phone and basically called me a liar. The burger was nice and juicy and they have one of the best mudslides. Also a great perk is that down the road was a beautiful beach. The only downside for me was to have to do valet parking but we only had to tip the valet. It's definitely a Cape Cod favorite! read more

Went here for some beers with a few of my buddies and was having a great time, band was entertaining-but the end of the night went quite sour. About 20 minutes before closing my buddy bought a round of beers. 5 min later the bartender told is to hurry up and finish. 2 min after that she said "finish them or I'll throw them out for you". I was a little peeved and asked why would you sell us beers and then essentially ask for them back in an unreasonable time. Before she could even respond a bouncer (real short guy with tattoos) physically picked me up and dragged me out of the bar...and I'm 6'2 220 lbs. I've never been kicked out of a bar in my life! He got in my face outside and really wanted me to say anything to instigate a fight. Serious Napoleon complex with this employee/bouncer. He also (in a less violent but rudely) kicked out an older couple who were amazed on how poorly they were treated. So if you go to Chapins don't expect to stay close to when they close or else their steroid induced bouncer will physically throw you out. Inexcusable way to treat customers... read more

We came on Sunday night 7/6/14. I really liked it. We were at the beach all day and it was nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine and dinner. The place was packed and I would not have attempted to go outside but was with someone that's been there before......we worked our way through the crowd and surprisingly got a table outside right away. It was quiet and relaxing. Very nice. I had the seafood platter fried and liked it a lot. I did not think the prices were unreasonable. Service was a little slow as others said but I was in no rush and appreciated the time to drink wine and chat while waiting for our food. We had a great time and I will be back. read more

This is a great place to sit at the bar, have a drink and apps, maybe a sandwich. It is not a great place to get a decent meal, however. There are so many places to get good seafood on the Cape, to wait hours for something only mediocre just isn't worth it. My husband had a horrible fried plate with burned breading. They couldn't be bothered with his complaints. The problem is that they are so busy in the summer(because it's summer on the Cape and even crappy food near the beach packs people in), they really don't seem to care about the quality of the food. They don't have to. People flock there anyway. We are in walking distance so we go there on occasion, mostly for a casual lunch. The bar is a great spot, but wicked crowded. Sandwiches are fine. The raw bar is pretty good. But I doubt I will ever order a meal there again. read more

This is absolutely the BEST place for fried oysters, fish and chips, and many other seafood entrees. Also, the East Dennis Oyster Farm is often there on weekends with fresh oysters and clams served at a raw bar set up in the restaurant's bar--these are the best oysters on the Cape! It's a young and loud crowd in the bar, particularly when the Red Sox or Patriots are on the TVs, but the restaurant rooms are certainly family- and kid-friendly. Fast, efficient service, moderate prices, especially on mid-week specials. Valet parking. read more

Being served took another eternity, and the Chapin's Cobb Salad, which claimed to have "jumbo shimp, and lobster meat", turned out a single shimp and a hint of lobster knuckle meat. My girlfriend and I went here for a late lunch, and were very disappointed. The wait staff was unfriendly and seemed a bit annoyed to have customers around late in the afternoon. The philly cheesesteak egg rolls were over priced, and only came with two rolls. We ordered the seafood platter, for $27, and it was lackluster. The menu describes it as a "heaping" portion of seafood and that was not the case. Overall, the food was overpriced and not good quality. We will not be returning here next summer. read more

Chapin's used to have pretty good food, and Cape-quality service. We love their tartar sauce, great fish, nice salads, etc. The service was always pretty slow, but OK overall, but has recently gotten much worse. Today I was actually yelled at by my waiter! My family visited this restaurant twice in one week. First visit on a busy Sunday evening was great. Second visit on a busy Thursday evening, the food was terrible. If you go, we recommend the clam chowder, the Panko Salmon piccata (daily special) and the fried fish and chips. Stay away from the Cod piccata (taste frozen), the overly breaded calamari, and the soggy quesadillas. But the free valet parking is nice and those guys do an awesome job under pressure!
