Good spot. The service is great and they're very friendly. Prices are pretty decent for BBQ. The only complaints I have is their bbq sauce. It tastes almost like salsa or a marinara sauce. Finally decided to stop by after seeing this place next to the highway for years! They have a bakery and a barbecue restaurant. I got the sausage and cheese kolache, bacon and cheese kolache, and cream cheese kolache. They were alright and not very filled. I didn't really have a favourite out of the three, but the bacon one was my least favourite. The total was about $9. The girl behind the counter was super friendly. I have passed this smokehouse more than a hundred times, which may be why when I finally had the opportunity to dine here it was less than I had anticipated. I had the chopped beef baked potato, I'm not a huge fan of barbecue sauce, I believe my experience would've been better if I'd ordered the sliced brisket w no sauce. Stopped in for the first time during our drive back to Houston from Taylor and even though we didn't arrive until 7pm on a Saturday evening and it was busy, they were still stocked on everything. We had two rib plates with sides of pinto beans and twice-baked potatoes and everything was delicious. I avoid sugar in food as best I can, found both sauces too sweet for me but the ribs were so moist and flavorful, didn't need sauce. CHB&D will be a regular stop for us from now on. read more

Stopped by on an empty stomach while traveling through Texas and decided to try everything! I ordered the biscuits & gravy, the homemade biscuits were the best I've ever had in my lifetime. Very soft, warm, and buttery they were absolutely perfect. The blueberry pancakes were also the best I've had fresh blueberries with slight crispy edges perfection! 10/10 I then wandered over to the bakery and had homemade cinnamon roll, which was also amazing! Also had a sausage & cheese kolache the bread was like a roll it was so good! I then returned in the evening for dinner I ordered ribs, brisket, and sausage with Mac & cheese on the side that was delicious bbq. I went to this place 2 times in one day!! I was on an bus tour so the line to get food was long. I don't eat meat but there are plenty of veggie sides. Four sides were $8. I got a potato salad, cole slaw, potato wedges and wild rice. The iced tea is too watered down. They have sweet and unsweet tea. I like to get half of each. You have to get lemons when you're paying for your food. A friend ordered some honey buns to share. Brisket was cold and tastes like boiled roast beef. Sausage (what they were know for!) was flavorless and dried out. Sides were pretty mediocre as well. Restrooms were nasty. I hate to do this, but this was the worst BBQ I have ever eaten.. and I have messed up some BBQ on my own in my back yard and it was better! Ribs were decent... like edible.. they did not remove the membrane on the ribs! That is like BBQ 101! The Brisket tasted like it was cooked in a steamer... terrible. I asked for fatty pieces and they were kind of sliced kinda not just put on a pile on the plate... looked as bad as they tasted. I'll save worst for last... the BBQ sauce tasted like Italian spaghetti sauce!! I tasted it like 3 times just to see if something was wrong with my taste buds! Are you kidding me! Would be better if they just purchased cheap sauce from the grocery store! It was terrible. The place looks like it should have good food... they have put money into everything except a pit master. Drove by this place a lot, finally stopped in for a late lunch. Got the one meat plate with brisket, jalapeños MacnCheese, potato salad. Though the Chappell Hill Bakery & Deli is not what one would refer to as a convenient place to dine, I have enjoyed the food so much that my family has sometime made the hour journey to get their barbeque. Located in Chappell Hill close to a lot of wineries, it is a great place to stop before or after spending some time at a winery or just making the trip to have dinner. Their meat selection is always tasty and there isn't one of their sides that I do not enjoy. If you are a fan of spicy food, definitely try their jalapeno mac and cheese! The young man that took my order was switching from breakfast to lunch and acknowledged me and said he'd be with me in a second (I hate when folks ignore you until they're ready) he gave me the fatty parts like I asked and was super sweet. Now to this deliciousness!!! It was super juicy and I low key don't think I needed to ask for the fatty parts because the whole thing looked nice and juicy/tender as he was slicing it. It was delicious!!! The bread was good (I usually don't eat the bread) the sauce; I got on the side in case it needed it...it didn't but the meat could've used a little more flavor (smoky) or seasonings. They have sandwiches, burgers, full steak dinner plates, bbq plates, bbq potatoes ( hint: get the 2 meat loaded potatoe). They have pies, baked goods, kolaches, coffee, cookies, ... you name it! Nice restaurant and bakery right on 290 in Chappel Hill with its own dedicated parking lot. On the left is the restaurant and the right the bakery. The restaurant is counter service and features all of the standard bbq meats and sides along with other veggies and non-bbq entrees as well. I visited for lunch on a weekday and was feeling their hamburger steak for $14.99. It is a special order item cooked in the kitchen and takes about 15-20 minutes to arrive. I chose mashed potatoes and gravy and their baked beans as my 2 sides. Yes it took 15 minutes for the food to be delivered to my table. The meat, onions and gravy were good in taste. The mashed potatoes were loaded with a white gravy and I liked them. The beans weren't your traditional baked bean type. These were lighter in color and looked more like ham hock and beans. Even though they looked and tasted different I enjoyed them too. I like this restaurant and will remember it whenever I am driving through on 290. read more

Very nice little place to grab food in Chappell Hill. They are taking safety and COVID precautions seriously, which was really important to us. We were even able to grab a table outside on the front porch to eat! I was so sad to find out that they stopped serving breakfast at 10:30 am. We were still able to grab some delicious kolaches though! Everything we had from the bakery was delicious. The attached BBQ restaurant looked and smelled pretty good too. Stopped in a couple weekends ago on the way to Brenham. This place has it all. Smoked sausage, steaks, pork chops, stuffed chicken, summer sausage, spices, jerky, pretty much everything you would find most meat markets and some things you wouldn't. All kinds of fresh bread (slice it at home however you want) and pastries. Had breakfast burritos while we were here. It's kinda like Freebirds for breakfast. Pick what you want, they put it on. Three items or ten, same price, same SIZE! Large tortillas and they fill them up completely. Watch them build one and you will know if you want two. The brisket is wonderful and so is the sausage. Coffee and tea/soda are self serve, paper towels are on the table. You can also order eggs and what-not the way you want them from the kitchen. Nice little place and the people are friendly. Burritos come wrapped in foil but they are not meant for driving down the road. Grab a fork and sit a spell. And don't forget a jar of jelly or preserves to go with that lovely loaf of bread you couldn't pass up. read more

The hubbs went in to pick up their amazing stuffed pork chops (cook yourself) from the refrigerated meat section, but they were out, so he picked up the non-stuffed, seasoned pork chops instead. When he took them up to the counter to pay, the person at the register asked if he found everything alright. My husband answered, "I was looking for your stuffed pork chops, but I guess you're all out?", then the cashier sarcastically replied, "That's unfortunate." Then rings up the tab and slams the chops on the counter in a bag - - Unprofessional and rude. I did end up buying a variety of items but many went into the trash hours later. This seems like a huge missed opportunity to serve locals and travelers alike. I ordered a 16oz Ribeye, probably shouldn't went with something else. It's not a steakhouse and the customer service isn't there. They brought my steak out didn't want to see if it was cooked right, put it down and left. I got Jalapeño Mac & cheese pretty good very creamy, twice baked potato maybe it's a left over or out all day but there was nothing special about it, couldn't even try get a comparable taste just bla. The salad was just thrown together all the cheese was at the bottom lettuce wasn't cold. I don't even wanna finish my steak there is NO flavor to it but for $34 I won't let it waste w 2 hour drive ahead of me. Men's Bathroom was horrendous it appears as if no one has cleaned the bathroom since this place was built. Paper towels on the floor, paper towel dispenser empty and as soon as you walk into the restroom wreaks of urine. Purchased kolaches at the bakery, ended up throwing them away after trying 1 of the 4 fruit that I purchased. Breading was stale and about 1/2 teaspoon of fruit. Also the sausage and cheese kolaches was little amount of sausage and cheese compared to the bread. Had ordered cheese kolaches and was given apple. read more
