That said, my last experience with them was so disappointing that I won't be using them again in the future. I called after hours when my furnace stopped working and was giving off a strong smell. They use an answering service. The answering service passes along emergency calls to Bloomingdale Heating & Air Conditioning and promises a call back in 5-10 minutes. I called 4 times over the course of 5 hours. Never got a call back. The next morning I get a call, I mention the issue I had the night before. The response was - "it was a busy night". Technician comes out. Quotes me $620 for a $100 part and 40 minute install (his estimate, not mine). I question the price. He says he'll call his manager to see if they can do better. An hour later, I get a call from the office with someone requesting payment. I say that the quote is still being reviewed. The person on the phone says she is the office manager and the price is what it is. I ask how a 40 minute job adds up $520 in labor. She says that her price includes parts, labor, and the service call. I acknowledge the cost of the part is roughly $100 and again question the other $520. She mentions a $90 service fee. I question why that isn't rolled into labor. Historically, they waive service fee if work is done. After going in circles, the office manager asks "for a minute", thinks she puts me on hold but doesn't, yells inaudibly for about 10 seconds, then comes back on the line to collect payment. From start to finish, the whole experience was embarrassingly unprofessional. Feel free to charge what you can when running your business, but do it in an appropriate way.

Normally, I would have moved on to another company, but they had good reviews, so I decided to give them another chance. The second time, I called to schedule an estimate for a new system. Before I could even explain what I needed, the woman who answered said, "Can you hold on? I have a customer calling." I was honestly confused and replied, "I am a customer." I was calling because I wanted to buy an entirely new HVAC system. Today, I decided to give them one final opportunity after seeing one of their trucks around town. I was transferred to someone who took my name and phone number but didn't explain what would happen next. When I asked when I should expect a callback, I was told their business hours were 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. I clarified that I wasn't asking for their hours--I was asking how long it typically takes for someone to call back about an estimate. The response was simply, "I don't know." None of these issues are major on their own, but together they paint a picture of a company that doesn't seem interested in earning new business. Three very avoidable experiences were enough for me. In a slight panic -- because let's be honest, this is definitely a first-world problem, but I can no longer survive without AC -- we called Service Express. They were able to send two HVAC technicians out by 3 PM that same day, and thanks to them, I got to sleep comfortably on the first hot, sticky evening of the season. The technicians were incredibly kind and professional. They took great care to cover their shoes while inside my home, thoroughly explained the issue, and I felt the pricing was very fair. I'll absolutely be using Service Express again in the future and would definitely recommend them if you're in a bind and need fast, reliable service.

We called a few local contractors for help, and NONE were even close to the level of quality and communication of Vent. Other companies wanted to charge us to come out and tell us our AC was broken (obviously) one of which spent less than 5 minutes recommending just a new AC - and implemented some shady sale techniques around scarcity to make an all too quick decision. Emanuel (the son) came out and did a very thorough diagnostic with pressure readings - all free of charge. He explained in detail about what was wrong why just replacing the AC was ultimately not the best way to go - but up to us. Jim (the dad) took over in terms of scoping the project and scheduling the work. He and his crew were friendly and accomidating throughout the day and did a great job with the install and clean up. Overall, we ended up replacing the AC, coil, furnace, and making enhancements to our ducts. The price was reasonable (beating the others just for the AC portion), the workmanship excellent, and communication was great. Would absolutely recommend!
