Woo hoo! Just got my new tattoo today and I'm overall pleased with it. It hasn't even healed yet but I HAD to do a review on this place. It was incredible! My original tattoo place was all booked up and I was too excited to wait till tomorrow so I decided to research Yelp reviews and found this place. Had great reviews as well! Walked in with no appointment and was greeted kindly by the staff. First off, the decor is so beautiful and this has to be the nicest tattoo parlor ever! I love all the art work, decorations and Tomas's art work as well. This place was "calm" to say the least. Unlike some tattoo parlors, it gets loud and even unwelcoming. My tattoo artist was Albert! He introduced himself and asked questions about my tattoo as far as size. The placement was on my left wrist and I was afraid of the placement because there is something about veins that creep me out... He reassured me that I'd do fine which was very comforting. Couple minutes later he was at it and we started talking about music, our life/occupation and how he got started tattooing. I like when people talk during a tattoo, almost takes your mind off the stings and pain. So with that, I'm truly grateful. 15-20 minutes my tattoo was done and it was amazing! The lines were accurate and no empty spots with the shading.. even though it was simple and small it was still perfect! I love it. After... I wanted some inspiration and opinion on how I should cover up my previous tattoo and Albert and another tattoo artist shared their opinion on what would look good and I'm going to come back to get it done! Absolutely a great experience. Stars do not give justice to the staff and experience I have had with Cash Scott and Chapter 1 tattoo. I will admit, I was very nervous when I was looking for an artist to approach. I found Cash by recommendation, looking up his work, and then also looked at reviews on line. I approached him and with not knowing what would be needed or discussed, and he was very welcoming and helpful. I have been working on a pretty lengthy piece on my arm for about two months now, or 5 sessions. I really just gave an idea of what I wanted and Cash took it to the next level. I wouldn't have expected anything less and I am super pleased with the outcome so far. The whole staff at Chapter 1 is very friendly and break the first possible intimidation factor in a second. Just finished a 7/10 sleeve with Cash and the experience couldn't have been better. It was my first tattoo and Cash along with the rest of the Chapter One staff made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Highly, highly recommended. A friend recommended Cash so after checking out his work on Instagram I booked a consult. I came in with a pretty vague idea but he was really receptive and offered solid feedback that helped bring it to life. After agreeing on the design, we scheduled the appointment - 8 months later! (A testament to his talent, for sure.) When I came in for my first appointment Cash showed me his drawing based on the idea we discussed and it was perfect. So much better than I could've imagined. Once we began working on the tattoo, the sessions were great. Cash is very personable, as are the rest of the staff. The shop itself is warm and welcoming. I think we put in a total of 18 hours. Had an appointment with Albert, I had emailed him so I didn't have to come in for a consultation which was awesome! His specialty is small detailed tattoos which is exactly what I was looking for. The atmosphere is more professional than tattoo shop-ey which is intimidating to me as a small lady haha. This was my first tattoo so I was super nervous, but Albert was super nice and made sure I was absolutely comfortable before he started. He did one line to give me the feel for it and ease my nerves. The tattoo turned out exactly how I wanted and he did an amazing job drawing it up. His draw up was actually better than the original! Clean, modern and professional. Experience was ehhhh not exactly what I expected. First time getting a tattoo and I don't LOVE it. I regret not taking a picture of EXACTLY what I wanted. I was under the impression (like in most shops) the artist draws and creates what you request. I asked for bright & vivid and that's not what I got. I allowed to heal went for touch up and added a petal to make symmetrical ( I guess I didn't specify) but still not happy with it :'( By the way I did research on the shop prior and follow most on IG. This place is amazing. By far the cleanest most professional joint I have ever walked into. They roll with everything from fantasy football punishments to some serious work. I've gotten two pieces done here and my wife got one cover up done. After going through all the portfolios we decided that Cash was our guy. His line work was what stood out to me personally as well as his flower art for my wife's cover up. He was booked out for over a year when I made my appointment and then I got told I was deploying a couple of months before my appointment. I put a call in to the shop and told them my issue they got back to me the next day and told me they would be able to move things around and get me in early so that I could get everything done and touched up if necessary before I left. My wife had the same wait time but both were worth it. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for ink. All their artists are more than capable and the shop represents a plethora of styles you can certainly find someone to fit the style you're looking for. I now live in NC but I would fly across the country to get work done by these guys! read more

While visiting San Diego from Indianapolis, I knew I wanted to get another tattoo. I spent a significant deal of time researching shops in the area and once I found Chapter One, I knew I wanted them to do the rose compass I had in mind. My schedule was limited, but they were able to get me in before I flew back to Indy. I cannot say enough positive things about Albert; he's officially my artist from here on out! He was easy-going, professional, and put me at ease immediately. I had sent him two images that I wanted to use as inspiration and when I saw his interpretation, I immediately fell in love. He took my favorite parts of both images and added his own creative twist, giving me a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind design I'm proud to have on my body. This was my fifth tattoo, so I've experienced several different tattoo shops. Chapter One is by FAR my favorite; everyone from the receptionist Becca to the other artists were excellent. I am in love with my tattoo and can't wait to earn some frequent flier miles when I return for my next piece with Albert. I'll happily fly across the country for another amazing work of art! I decided that I wanted to get another tattoo on my collarbone, and after much research made my appointment with Chapter One. I contacted them for a consultation and I was matched up with Colton. From the first meeting he was super down to earth and easy to talk to. He took my requests into consideration and ran with it. I made my appointment for a month out, and paid my deposit. I showed up today for my tattoo and everything ran so smooth. Colton had the stencil ready and we talked out the placement. He had his station set up in no time and I was in the chair ready to go. Colton was really amazing; super easy to talk to and a really gentle hand. He had me tattooed in about an hour. I love my tattoo; it is dainty and feminine and placed perfectly! My review is a bit delayed, but better late than never, eh? Seriously, this is the place to go.I actually got referred to this place by my friend, Josh, who had me look up the Yelp reviews for this shop. He wasn't lying. The staff is professional, the shop is clean and the vibe is right on. Albert's been so awesome to work with and he kept me at ease as he worked on both of them, which were about 9 months apart. The first was done on March 19, 2013 on the outside of my left elbow. I had a bit of a reaction to the ink (1 out of 100 folk can't have red/brown in their skin), but folks at the shop were great. They eased my concerns and I got it redone in black on May 24. We worked together on the design and I really like his interpretation of it. It looks even better in black. :) When I got the inspiration for my next tattoo, I e-mailed Albert a photo of the piece. He did a beautiful rendition of it on my right wrist. It healed pretty well and looks amazing. If I get the urge to have another tattoo done, I'm coming back here. Albert, you are quite the artist. Thank you SO much! I felt the need to write a review because I kind of felt like I wasn't being the best customer towards my artist (Adam) that day. I was researching where a good place to get my first tattoo was and one of my friends recommended me to go to OB to get one since she said there were pretty legit artists here. I looked some tattoo places up on Yelp and Chapter One had by far the best reviews. I didn't really care for who my artist was because judging by their portfolio all of them seemed good at what they did. When I came in to make an appt, the girl in the front desk (I'm sorry, I forget your name) was really nice and friendly. I made an appt and told her a brief summary about the tattoo I wanted. Knowing myself, I came back like two days later to notify that I changed the placement and sketch of my tattoo and the girl in the front desk was still very sincere and genuine about the change. Anyways, on the day of my appt I got a voicemail from the girl in the front desk saying that Adam was still working on his client so my appt was pushed back about an hour. I came in around 4pm thinking that I'd leave by 4:30pm. Unfortunately, things went pretty down hill when my artist showed me the piece that he was going to put on me. I thought to myself "What the hell? Did he literally just trace over my sketch?" Mind you, I am a tattoo newb so I didn't know squat about how artists do their thing. I was just really confused with everything and I was just really speechless at that point. The sketch that I drew was literally a 5 minute drawing that I made while studying. I didn't think my artist would literally trace over my damn sketch. I was so perplexed! I know you're probably thinking I'm being an idiot for not doing my research but give me a break here. However, Adam was really chill about it and told me to just send what I wanted to his email so he could print it out. The whole process of trying to get the right size, spacing, and location I wanted probably took like half an hour just cause I was being super anal about everything and I apologized beforehand. I could somewhat tell Adam was irritated at me but he still did a great job and I wanted to just apologize again for not being the best customer. My encounter at Chapterone Tattoo was very negative. BEWARE ask for samples BEFORE giving cash to reserve an appointment. The kid who was scheduled to do my wife and my tattoos met us with a lackluster version from a sample of what we presented the day prior. Ken seemed to operate in a bubble. I not only provided a physical sample for my wife's tattoo but gave him guidance and explanation on what we were trying to achieve. Each time it took him a half hour to attempt corrections. He did not involve us real time with the design process but would reappear with an unacceptable version of both our tattoo concepts while we waited about 30 minutes per revision. I asked if there was a manager...but apparently there is no one in charge. So after turning downs his 3rd version and waiting nearly an hour and a half...my wife and I left. I asked if I was out my $80 appt fee...and the answer was yes. This is a very poor reflection on customer service and shows the place really needs somone in charge. I ended up going down the street to Last Days Tattoo Parlour who took us in as walk ins WITHOUT CHARGE. The tattoo artist worked in front of us and designed our tattoos to both our satisfaction. I recommend this place over Chapterone if you want a personal touch to the experience and no attitude from the tattooist.. read more

So thanks to Chapter One and Albert, I'm no longer a tattoo virgin. I've grown up in a family that was (and still is) very anti-tattoos. Because of that, getting a tattoo was a HUGE deal for me (my friends told me they've never seen someone so nervous about a tattoo, especially one as simple as mine). I've wanted this tattoo/idea put on me since I was 18, so a 3 year wait was behind getting this... But aside from my nerves, my experience at Chapter One was beyond fantastic. The day that I found them on yelp, I came over and met Albert. The shop is really beautiful and the atmosphere calmed me instantly. Plus, Albert is super chill. We made small talk about music festivals and whatnot the day he made my appointment. I was able to get seen a week after my consultation and the tattoo itself only took an hour (so awesome). It's day three and even though it's on my back, I can't stop looking at it over my shoulder in mirrors. I've had people in liquor stores and in restaurants compliment me on it, particularly on its colors. The orange color of this tattoo was a big part of why I wanted it in the first place. Albert made it look so bright and I'm obsessed with the light to dark values he was able to put in. I've said it multiple times but THANK YOU SO MUCH ALBERT and thank you Chapter One. Thanks to your shop, the process of getting a tattoo is no longer scary and taboo to me. First I would like to apologize because this review is long overdue. I absolutely loved my tattoo experience here at Chapter One. Albert did both my husband's as well as my tattoos a few months ago. We asked for Colorado inspired tattoos with little direction so that Albert could kinda do what he wanted. The designs that he came up with were gorgeous, we seriously could not have asked for something better! Albert not made a wonderful design, he was also very thorough and executed them amazingly. Albert was super chill and would talk with me when I needed the distraction, but let me do my thing if I just needed to chill and sit in silence for a little. Mike is the shit. Bottom line, all the artists here do some dope ass work. But Mike is my type of guy when it comes to tattoos. He has a VERY light hand, keeps conversation going while remaining focused and he is reasonably priced considering the amazing job he does. Everyone here was BEYOND friendly. The newly renovated shop is beautiful. I drove here all the way from LA and in traffic that's easily an 2+ hour drive that I don't mind taking knowing I'm going to get some sick ink from talented artists. I have to say of all of the tattoos that I've gotten in my life, and I have a pretty large number, some of my favorite have been done by one of Chapter One's artist, Adam Harper. Not only is Harper a professional but he is one of the most innovative artists I've encountered in my tattoo travels (I've been all over the world). Adam's playful use of color highlights the best aspects of the art of tattooing. His artistry blends modern color into the classic style of traditional tattoos without looking garish or overly juvenile. It's a pity I moved from San Diego without getting another piece by him.
