Tattoo shop is located off of the popular main drag of Garnet Ave in PB. This spot came highly recommended as my son had gotten a tattoo here a few months prior. We were back in San Diego and decided to get one together! We didn't have a lot of days, nor an appointment (which is highly advised) but popped in anyway! My son was greeted by the tattoo artist named Culleton P. (that had remembered him from their prior interaction). Culleton was able to work us in, which was wonderful. We had just a little bit of a wait time, as he was finishing up with his other clients. As we were waiting, I was watching tattooist Sean creating a Scorpion with extremely intricate design that was added in to his previous work on his patrons sleeve. It was incredibly impressive! The shop is laid-back and has a really cool vibe. Each station has a noticeably clean hygienic workspace and overall an environment that allows you to feel extremely comfortable. What an amazing experience we had from start to finish. My son and I already had in mind what we wanted, so it made the process that much easier. Culleton our tattooer did an incredible job on our tattoos! He's been in the business for decades, so his craft is exceptional. His attention to detail along with the clean lines, solid saturation, and smooth shading made for killer tats! We were so happy with the results. ALL the staff here are phenomenal. You can't go wrong with any one of them! They are so welcoming, creative, and willing to work with you to bring your ideas to life. These artists are knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. To the artists Sean and Bryan even though you were working with your clients, you still made it a point to an acknowledge us and engage us in quality conversations. You ALL really made us feel like we were your friends here, so "Thank you"! NOTE- each artist has their own fees and prices which depends on many factors: such as the design complexity, size, and body placement. FYI- shop generally requiring a minimum and or hourly rate as well. In our case, our cost seemed fair to pay for our pieces. This is such a great ink place. Bryan is great; been going to him for a few years now and it's a good experience every time. He is always professional, and I feel very comfortable communicating with him about my ideas and getting his feedback/expertise. I especially appreciate that he keeps the longevity of the tattoo in mind so that it will still look nice years later. This shop has quickly become a favorite of mine in San Diego. I consider myself a bit of a "collector", and I usually like to branch out to many different shops/artists. But, over the last year or so, I find myself coming back to Kings Head for the overall vibes and amazing talent. Y'all have really built an incredible team of artists that seem to mesh very well and it's always a good time hanging out! So many laughs and just an overall great atmosphere. Update: I discussed Austin Berry's tattooing limitations, now let's discuss his character, or lack there of. Austin B. is the same Austin B. that responded to this review by laughing ("funny") He and his colleagues have responded this way to every negative comment they have received. No remorse or attempt to make "right his wrongs" after he screwed up my tattoo. Go to an artist that is good enough and humble enough to recognize their own limitations and will stay within their wheelhouse of their talents. THIS IS NOT THAT ARTIST. He does not stand behind his art, his ink, or anything else. And btw, it cost almost twice as much as he quoted by the time he was done. There are so many places out there where you will get an amazing tattoo and artist ( for a MUCH better price, I might add) that also has ethic and humility to know when to say someone else or an adjustment to your art design would be better for the both of you. Again, this and Kings Head Tattoo (as they didn't try to fix or address Austin's screw up either) is not that person or place. Thank you all for the reaching out to me. I am sorry that so many have had the same issue with this artist and this company, but hopefully this warning I can help others. And by the way, they claim that they are all about taking care of their veterans. I am a disabled veteran. This tattoo was a homage to my time and injury sustained while a frontline medic in Afghanistan. Austin and Kings Head Tattoo owner (Kevin I believe was his name) refused to stand fix this tattoo or the areas that didn't hold ink. This was a VERY important piece to me. Looks like I'm giving this place its first honest review. The final price . . .twice as much as estimate. The time . . .you pay for their smoke breaks and incessant bs convos. The people . . .I think I heard the dreaded white dude say "libt*ard" about 5 times. At least one artist was not digging it, but overall bad shop environment, Old PB white dudes love to dress radical but act like neo-con jerks. The work . . .not great. The artist did not listen to my requests at all. The ink didn't stay using their derma-shield either. It's like a sticker that took half the ink with it a few days later (followed instructions to a T). I'd go back for the touchups I deserve, but I just never want to return. read more

Justin at King's Head is the best tattoo artist I have ever worked with. This was my second tattoo he did for me and it came out incredible. I had a chest shoulder piece that never got finished and I asked him if he could help me. Without hesitation he said yes and he helped me narrow down how the design could be completed. My tattoos are all related to family members that have passed and it was so amazing to have an artist willing to complete a tattoo that, up to that point, I was doubtful it could be done. The amount of artistry, adaptability, and technical precision he showed was second to none. The ability to take the elements of my existing tattoo and find ways to use shading and composition to make the additions and shading added finally look like a completed tattoo was epic and I am proud to show it off. Brice was amazing at getting exactly what he wanted and prices were fair for what he had done.
