We were not planning to eat dinner at Char Bar, but our original plans fell through and ever since I have been recommending this experience to ALL of my friends! The speakeasy area is not secretive, but was quiet and felt a more causal than the main dining area. It has unique drinks and food menu, but you are also able to order anything off Butcher and The Boar Menu. We decided to opt for the unique experience and ordered meaty and cheese signature roast beef sandwiches, a fried chicken sandwich, and curly fries -- all were delicious. We had an absolutely amazing host who's recommendations were on point! We were not planning on trying her recommendation of the foot long hot dog, but I am glad it showed up on the table because it was by far my taste buds favorite part of out Char Bar experience! I am giddy about visiting again to try their burger.

Speakeasy of butcher in the boar (which I've dined in before) I kept it simple and ordered a wedge salad, it was delicious and quite filling because of the large portion and meaty chunks of bacon and bleu cheese. My friend ordered the burger and said it was delicious which is no surprise seeing char bar is a sister restaurant to parlour which is famous for the simply delicious burger. Our waitress and bartender were awesome, we mentioned we probably werent going to love the mocktail choices they had so they whipped us up something delicious. Loved the vibe and the loud music this is a great date night spot.

Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! I liked the pickled onions and the chipotle mayo cheese sauce, good solid burger for a good price!

Cocktails were great per my friends, but the mock tail disappointed me; basically same price even without liquor and a bit simple. The sammies were very good. Also loved the interior and service we received.

Speakeasy with amazing ambience and atmosphere. Great place to meet friends and hang out. Not loud, so it's easy to have a conversation. Our servers were all very nice and helpful with our orders. All our drinks were well mixed. The espresso martini was frothy, creamy and bold with flavor. My blonde Russian was made well, good and strong. The curly fries order was a satisfying munchy for our group. Nicely coated and perfectly crunchy on the outside. This is a great place to meet before heading over to the Butcher & The Boar for dinner.

Such lovely, attentive staff, all of our drinks were delicious and the space was a total vibe. 10 out of 10 I would come back and dine again.

FOOD/DRINKS: I will stand by that Char Bar has THE best happy hour in Minneapolis. They have $6 burgers, brats, + fries, along with $6 cocktails, beers, + frozen drinks. That is a STEAL. There is no where else where you can get such a cool vibe and eat only a $6 burger!! So definitely go from 4-6 pm on a weekday to try their yummy food and drinks. SERVICE: No problem with the service- the staff was all very nice. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is AWESOME- looks like a speakeasy in a library!! LOCATION/PARKING: Char Bar is located in the back of Butcher & the Boar, so you can walk through the main entrance and they'll point you the way. Location is great, and street parking is easily available (or paid valet if preferred).

They described it as an upscale dive bar which I laughed at for sure, but when I went I would say that exactly how I would describe it. It's dark and moody, but very funky and hip with the neon walls and lights. It's very small, behind the new Public Domain space. Seems like the hostesses direct people waiting on a spot there to Neon Tiger while they wait. We were able to snag one of the last tables after we ordered (there are about 5 tables for 2, and 3 standing bar tables from what I remember). The menu isn't large - it has a couple of beers, some basic cocktails and lists spirits and mixers. The only new and exciting thing on the menu is their slushy cocktails. Good news is that this place isn't very pricey, but the portions aren't huge. My small espresso martini was $12, my boyfriend's beer didn't quite look like a full pint but was only $4. We did laugh that it was called Tiger piss. The espresso martini is good, but beware there's no actual cream liquor in the drink - they seem to squirt some foamy concoction from an unmarked squeeze bottle in a fridge on top, which was interesting. Overall, would come back here if I was bar hopping for cocktails - but wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. Great idea to send people here while waiting for Public Domain!

The restaurant is located in the back of the bar, in their tiki lounge. As for the food, there is a small but thoughtful menu. The food is shareable size, and the food represents the diverse background of the owner. The food, ambience, and service are all stellar. Pros: - Chill spot in Minneapolis North Loop - Unique food offerings Cons: - No free parking - Some food items' flavor could use a little more "pop".

The bartenders ask you a few questions to get a feel for the profile of the drink they should make you. The more specific you can be, the better the drink. So think of your favorite flavors or textures in a cocktail. Or even give them examples of what you usually drink. The bar is so cool looking and the booths are nice and roomy, even for six people Going there Thursday-Saturday you are pretty much guaranteed to get amazing drinks. We have been there early in the week and the experience was not the same, not sure if it's just different mixologists on the busier days or what. The main reason this is not a five star review is the food. It's really nice to get snacks with your well crafted beverage but since the food menu changed to a Polynesian theme a while ago, we no longer order food. When it was a Cuban style menu, it was really good. But now, not just the style of food is different, but so is the quality. But we keep coming back for the drinks. They always seem to know just what I like.

Located inside the Foshay Tower, there's street and valet parking available! We entered through the W hotel lobby and took the elevator up to the 27th floor! We were met by a fun, retro-inspired lounge with many couches and tables available in a 360-degree set up. It has Prohibition-themed decor, but I wouldn't quite call it a speakeasy, as there wasn't any guise to entering or accessing the space. My only critique is that the space is quite dated, but not in a cool way. It could really use an update to the paint and interior to maintain itself as a "destination" versus just another hotel bar with a view. The bartenders were quite friendly and helpful during our visit. We had an Old Fashioned and a Paper Plane during our visit! Both cocktails were absolutely delicious and perfectly made. Now, at around $26 each, I would expect that level. Overall, a cool, historical spot to grab a drink!
