We had a great experience at Char Bar! The ambiance and vibes are great. There's bar and table seating available. We got some drinks and food. I got the 'I was born on Jupiter' at the recommendation of our waitress and it was delicious. I was hesitant about the banana flavoring in it but it was all perfectly balanced in my opinion. For food we had the curly fries, corn bread, Brussels sprouts to share and then i had the friend chicken sandwich which was fantastic. Waiters were attentive and friendly, overall top tier experience.

Collette, Hunter, and Jane were absolutely amazing!!! The drinks were super good, too. Defintiely order the Hors D'oeuvres, the description is deceiving but it's actually amazing. Service was impeccable, and the bar chairs are super comfy.

The best speakeasy like ever! Located in the back of Butcher & the Boar steakhouse. You walk into the restaurant & say you'd like to go to the Char Bar. They say sure do you know where it is, & I said yes & they let us walk to the back. The speakeasy with typical old school hip hop. This is my fav bar of all time. My best friend since 1999 from undergrad loves this place too! It was his 1st time here tonight. We tried to go here once after brunch one day but the speakeasy was not open yet. I'm a healthcare professional & the decor is made for the type lol! You're surrounded by medicine cabinets floor to ceiling but full of bottles of liquor. My kind of bar. I love it here!!! There is an outpatient clinic Hennepin Health North Loop Clinic a block away. I got the espresso resposado tequilla with no extra sugars (resposado tequila is already naturally sweet from the Agave) which is my jam. They usually do that with vodka but they did resposado tequila for me. A hidden gem in the North Loop! So thankful it's only across the street from me!

Incredible find with the most whimsical cocktails and elegant speakeasy and awesome staff. We had the Shiso Fine with paradise tincture (mysteriously delicious) and my husband had Old Fashioned. Next time I'll try the Plague Doctor with cardamom and smoke. Very elevated drinks that have been thoughtfully curated. Food look amazing too. Incredible find!

What an awesome bar with talented and passionate bartenders! Thank you Jane, Colette and Hunter for an awesome evening and for making our work trip to Minnesota so memorable!

We were not planning to eat dinner at Char Bar, but our original plans fell through and ever since I have been recommending this experience to ALL of my friends! The speakeasy area is not secretive, but was quiet and felt a more causal than the main dining area. It has unique drinks and food menu, but you are also able to order anything off Butcher and The Boar Menu. We decided to opt for the unique experience and ordered meaty and cheese signature roast beef sandwiches, a fried chicken sandwich, and curly fries -- all were delicious. We had an absolutely amazing host who's recommendations were on point! We were not planning on trying her recommendation of the foot long hot dog, but I am glad it showed up on the table because it was by far my taste buds favorite part of out Char Bar experience! I am giddy about visiting again to try their burger.

Speakeasy of butcher in the boar (which I've dined in before) I kept it simple and ordered a wedge salad, it was delicious and quite filling because of the large portion and meaty chunks of bacon and bleu cheese. My friend ordered the burger and said it was delicious which is no surprise seeing char bar is a sister restaurant to parlour which is famous for the simply delicious burger. Our waitress and bartender were awesome, we mentioned we probably werent going to love the mocktail choices they had so they whipped us up something delicious. Loved the vibe and the loud music this is a great date night spot.

Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! I liked the pickled onions and the chipotle mayo cheese sauce, good solid burger for a good price!

This restaurant has the best happy hour in Minneapolis and I will stand by this! I went to the speakeasy so they could accommodate our large party, and was unbelievably impressed with both the service and the food. Not to mention the awesome atmosphere. Can't wait to try their main dining room ("Butcher and the Boar") next time. Very impressed!

Speakeasy with amazing ambience and atmosphere. Great place to meet friends and hang out. Not loud, so it's easy to have a conversation. Our servers were all very nice and helpful with our orders. All our drinks were well mixed. The espresso martini was frothy, creamy and bold with flavor. My blonde Russian was made well, good and strong. The curly fries order was a satisfying munchy for our group. Nicely coated and perfectly crunchy on the outside. This is a great place to meet before heading over to the Butcher & The Boar for dinner.

Cocktails were great per my friends, but the mock tail disappointed me; basically same price even without liquor and a bit simple. The sammies were very good. Also loved the interior and service we received.

FOOD/DRINKS: I will stand by that Char Bar has THE best happy hour in Minneapolis. They have $6 burgers, brats, + fries, along with $6 cocktails, beers, + frozen drinks. That is a STEAL. There is no where else where you can get such a cool vibe and eat only a $6 burger!! So definitely go from 4-6 pm on a weekday to try their yummy food and drinks. SERVICE: No problem with the service- the staff was all very nice. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is AWESOME- looks like a speakeasy in a library!! LOCATION/PARKING: Char Bar is located in the back of Butcher & the Boar, so you can walk through the main entrance and they'll point you the way. Location is great, and street parking is easily available (or paid valet if preferred).

Relatively easy to find, though you do have to hunt a little bit, Flora Room sits behind a nondescript metal door leading down a short hallway to the entrance. Take a long moment to allow your eyes to adjust if you're coming before sunset; this space is DARK. It's also perfect. Once your "night vision" kicks in you're surrounded by a nice bar, numerous bistro-style tables and booths. Candles adorn the tables creating a nice, cozy place to settle in for drinks. Once seated in comfortable chairs at a table, we were quickly greeted and provided with menus. The cocktail selection is relatively "small" but really nicely varied. Prices seemed a tad steep but frankly, given the quality of the drinks I'd say quite worth it. I started out with the Evita, a nice flavorful gin-base cocktail topped with a nice egg white foam. Very tasty. My wife opted for the Tapaculo, with gin, mezcal, pineapple, banana and bitters over ice. Also quite good. There are also bites available from the associated restaurant I can't recall the name of mine but I can say it was delicious. Bread-like bites with a really tasty dipping sauce. To close out the visit I selected Palo, a smoked aged rum cocktail that was really nice and rich. My wife chose the Nahualito with rum, walnut, amontillado and white chocolate. All should be on your radar. Flora Room really fit the bill for a nice, intimate speakeasy-style spot to spend time. Dark and cozy. Savory cocktails and friendly service will stand out and make you want to return. I know we'll seek it out if we return to Minneapolis again. I hope so.

Fortunately, I arrived at 5:30 PM on a Saturday, which was early enough to avoid a line and a velvet rope. I don't wait in line for anything unless I'm at a pharmacy, bakery, post office, or airport. Lines at restaurants and bars strike me as pretentious or bad management, and I don't tolerate either. However, I'm old, and at my age, nothing is worth waiting for unless it's a necessity. I found a seat at the beautiful and expansive bar and looked around at the Del Prado design. The colors might be different, but Flora was reminiscent of Minari and Noma. All three add to the Twin Cities' cachet. However, I was taken aback by the attire I saw around me. People were dressed in shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers. It's friggen Saturday night Minneapolis. Have some class! Flora Room was a lovely cocktail lounge, perfect for wooing, but don't expect to strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders. At these Del Prado joints, the staff must be trained not to engage. I'm out alone and enjoy talking. Bartenders used to be part of a lounge's attraction when I grew up in NYC. They learned your name, knew what you did, and gave you a hearty welcome. That, I guess, is not part of the culture in Minneapolis. Well, at least not at the Del Prado restaurants and bars. Chef Del Prado is from Argentina, and certainly, Argentina is one of the warmest and friendliest countries in the world, so I don't get it. I now live up the block from the Flora Room. I'm a neighbor and would like to be treated like one. Neighborly and the Flora Room are distant concepts.

Upon entering we were greeted by a woman who was clearly wearing multiple hats as she seemed rushed, a bit off putting and quite frankly distracted. It was Juneteenth the middle of the afternoon and there were maybe 6 people at the bar and one other table besides ours with 2 diners. The person seating us was also our server and the bartender. Menu is small but the items we ordered were all fabulous! Every single one! The collard green dip with cornbread pita chips was absolutely delicious - Think spinach artichoke dip but soul food! The salmon croquettes with lemon herb aioli and arugula salad that accompanied were fresh and light! The catfish sandwich with fries was hot, crispy and well seasoned with fresh lettuce and tomato on a perfectly tender brioche bun. I want to return so bad for the food but it was clear this host, server, bartender and partial cook was pulled in too many directions and that severely compromised our service and gave us stand off energy as first time patrons. I looked it up and she is actually one of the owners. She came across as irritated especially once we didn't order any alcoholic drinks first and then very short and curt following. What took the cake was her telling us she was leaving for the day and needed to close our tab while we were eating. Didn't ask did we want to order anything else and there was another server taking her place and an empty restaurant! My partner had to put his sandwich down wipe his hands pull out his wallet while she stood there impatiently. Then proceeded to linger around hugging her regular bar patrons. It was clear this is a "regulars" spot and if you're not one you're rolling the dice on the service you may or may not get. We were patient and didn't complain because it was Juneteenth and our intention to support black restaurants all weekend. I have many previous years in the industry as a cook, host and GM and I was stunned to know that she was one of the owners when I looked it up. Had planned to return for live music but unfortunately the off putting energy and unwelcoming vibe may have squashed that possibility. I hope they improve service because the food is delicious and deserves attention from a larger and more sophisticated audience.
