Nightingale always provides a wonderful experience. My spouse and I stopped in on the Friday evening of Memorial Day weekend, thinking it wouldn't be crowded. Wrong. Nightingale was packed, but fortunately, once two patrons saw my face from the bar, they quickly paid their bill and left. My face often compels people to vacate crowded establishments in Minneapolis, and we often find seats. After grabbing the two seats, we ordered wine and a wonderful Amaro-based cocktail. Jules was our bartender/server, and although he was crazy busy, he found time to be gracious to us. We ordered the meatball appetizer, halibut, and the Nightingale hamburger. My halibut was sublime, cooked perfectly, and it wasn't drowned in sauce. Bravo! The meatballs were tender and delicious, but the hamburger was not memorable. It was good, not great. Despite all the accolades above, when the bill came, I was charged two dollars after requesting a cucumber slice for my Pimms Cup. Perhaps the source of this pettiness came from the kitchen, but it wasn't smart, because the $2.00 charge placed a shroud over my experience. The bill was $125, and because of the petty two-buck charge, I only left a $25 tip. I was going to leave a $30 tip. I will sadly remember those 2 bucks forever. It was a myopic move and a passive-aggressive way to handle my request. In my birthplace home of NYC, a bartender would have said, "Getting a cucumber slice is a pain in the rear, would you mind skipping it?" My response, "Sure, it's not a big deal." read more

The service was genuinely friendly and pleasant throughout our visit, which went a long way. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. I tried the NY Strip special, which was fine but nothing memorable - exactly what you'd expect, no more, no less. The oysters were disappointing for the price point; the quality just wasn't there. The mushroom bruschetta similarly underwhelmed - it felt like it was missing something to make it stand out. The bright spot? The drinks were solid and well-crafted. I wanted to rate this higher based on the atmosphere and service alone, but at the end of the day, the food has to deliver. With so many great options in Minneapolis, Nightingale needs to step up its culinary game to match its lovely setting. I'd consider returning for drinks, but probably not for dinner. read more

I hadn't been to Nightingale in over 10 years. Went on a Friday evening around 8pm and they had a full house. We were able to snag a few spots at the bar, otherwise it would've been a 45 minute wait. Highly recommend making a reservation. It is cozy place but can get quite loud. Be prepared to talk a little louder. We started with a few snacks: mussels in a green curry sauce (not the freshest mussels, but that sauce was delicious), ricotta bruschetta (hard pass on this), and the chicken liver pate (I'm not a huge fan but my friend loved it. The bacon marmalade that came with it was tasty). For our main courses we got the vegetable orzo and the halibut. The orzo was creamy, the vegetables were crisp, and I liked the little kick with the horseradish. The he halibut was a bit over salted, but everything tasted well. This awesome little restaurant is located in a bustling area in Lowry Hill neighborhood. This does mean you will need to street park but even at prime time it wasn't a far walk. It's has both bar and table seating. We didn't have a reservation but were able to get a couple seats at the bar. First of all, our server Riley was amazing. He was friendly and checked in often to make sure we were good to go. He was also very knowledgeable on the menu. We got a small dish of olives which I usually despise, but I took a chance and was surprised that they didn't gross me out. We started off sharing the squash caponata bruschetta which was so flavorful and definitely shareable size. We both ordered the nightingale burger. The fries and aioli were so good. I felt okay with the burger. It wasn't bad, just nothing I would chase down. I got interested in the drink "little black book" and after asking Riley a little more about it and understanding the flavor profile I took a chance and really enjoyed it! Another epic dinner in Minneapolis! What a great little corner bar Nightingale is, brimming with charm and serious eats. Our server provided friendly and engaging service, giving us great recommendations for food and beverages. We got to try a number of sharables and each was worth ordering again, but there were definitely some standouts. In all, we got the deviled eggs, yellow tomato bruschetta, smoked chicken liver pate, scallops, beef tartare and grilled octopus. The standouts were the bruschetta, pate and scallops! The bruschetta was unlike any I have had before with a creamy spread topped by well flavored tomatoes all on a grilled bread. The flavor we commented on that came through as most unique was saffron! The pate was my single favorite thing I had all night. It truly did have an excellent smoked flavor that was super savory, and it was served with a bacon tamponade that paired perfectly. I ate at least 3-4 slices of this and finally had to convince myself to stop! The last stand out were the scallops, which were tender and cooked to perfection. The scallops themselves had a nice saltiness and were served atop an almond sauce with grapes. I know the grapes sound odd, but it was actually a great combination altogether. We ended with their milkjam ice cream trio! If you're looking for a quaint, vibey neighborhood spot with warm staff and excellent food (and who isn't?), I'd highly recommend stopping in! read more

This is just another staple for me. I do love sitting at the bar here as I feel as if the service is better / quicker that way. Came here specifically to watch the game and order a burger and a few drinks. The burger here is incredible. It isn't done up too much and the meat is perfectly grilled with a little bit of a crisp and the perfect toppings. Top 5 burger in the cities for sure. Also, they had a spaghetti on the menu which was new and we got it and I gotta say... it was so good! I have been wanting to eat here for such a long time, and the other day the stars aligned, and we darkened their doorway. Entering the restaurant, you will see small, cozy seating, which is perfect for a date night or three or four people. I don't think i'd bring a large group here. The drink menu was intriguing, with a thoughtful curation of drinks that ranged from citrusy to herbal to sweet. We went with the Negroni and the Old Fashioned. Both were well-balanced, and I always give props to a bartender who knows how long to stir or shake a cocktail so it doesn't become too diluted. Our server was certainly OG, and she knew that menu inside and out. We ended up sharing a few plates for our dinner. The steak tartare was surprisingly good. I am certainly in the traditionalist camp when it comes to tartare. This was a successfully presented version. The garlic aioli took over a little too much, and the celery root had a good texture. I would eat it again, but I would certainly prefer the traditional presentation. The other two menu items we had was the pickle plate and a plate of fries (because who doesn't want fries?). The pickle plate consisted of sunchoke, green beans, carrots, and shitake mushrooms. I enjoyed all of them except the carrots, which for some reason were overpowered by clove. Also enjoyed the cultured butter, but could have used salt. The french fries were really, really good. crispy and soft inside. I would certainly head back here to strap on the ol' feedbag. Nightingale is one of my favorite restaurants! I've been at least 10 times and am always impressed. You can tell the owner is a woman because everything is so tastefully curated to perfection! The ambiance is such a fun and moody vibe, the food is so unique and rich, and the smoky olives and specials like half off wine Mondays are a great touch. Every time I come here I order the pickle plate and take home a pint of the olives. I came here for my birthday dinner on the 6th with friends and we got a bit of everything: Steak tartare, Mussels, Pickle plate, Delicata squash and apples, Warm halloumi, Chicken wings, Deviled eggs, Mushroom bruschetta, Market salad, Smoked liver pate, and the Grilled octopus. The atmosphere was super charming, everyone was really nice, our waiter was quirky and attentive, and the food was outstanding! We shared the Pan Roasted Hanger Steak, which was cooked perfectly at medium rare, the Deviled Eggs with lake superior whitefish roe, the Roasted Halloumi (which is a firm, brined Cypriot cheese we learned, which was delicious!) with badger flame beet glaze, celery-date-walnut salad, and lemon oil, and a plate of olives. The wine list was exceptional, as was the selection of after-dinner drinks. If I lived in Minneapolis, I could envision this becoming a favorite spot! So, so, so good!! Describing many of the dishes in detail and making well thought out recommendations based on our preferences. Per usual, we split everything - I will run the list. - Marinated Olives: Our thoughtful waiter brought these out for us to snack on. They tasted like they were covered in bacon grease - and I mean that in the best way imaginable. - Sesame Shrimp Toast: Fried triangles of goodness. A crispy outside, decorated with sesame seeds providing a pop of flavor, and a warm shrimp stuffed interior. Not to mention the drinkable sweet chile sauce! - Mushroom Bruschetta: Turns out there is a thing as too many mushrooms. We let this dish get cold which was also a mistake. The baby quail eggs were adorable, almost would have rather just ordered those! - Nightingale Burger: Classic burger with sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato and aioli. We asked for medium but felt it was more medium rare, still totally edible. Nothing to write home about. - Fries + Aioli: Very much a winner. Fries were hot, crispy and salty, and the dipping accompaniment was a malt vinegar aioli, so so tasty. Nightingale is a great neighborhood spot in the heart of the reviving Uptown area! This was my boyfriend and I's third time visiting Nightingale. I really enjoy coming to this restaurant because it's open late and it's a nicer option than getting pizza or fast food. The outdoor seating is really cute and nicely secluded. The indoor seating is also nice! It is pretty dark and moody though. We've always had great service here and friendly waitresses! We stopped here around 10 pm, sat outside and were informed that on Mondays they have half priced bottles of wine! We ordered their moscato and it was very sweet but i enjoyed it a lot. I ordered their East coast oysters and their deviled eggs. Their oysters are okay. Nothing wrong with them, I have just had plumper, tastier, cheaper oysters elsewhere. Their deviled eggs however, were AMAZING. I loved the dill and the roe on top!! They were light and delicious. I could've eaten 10. My boyfriend got their burger and he was happy with it. Not his all time favorite but again, a good burger. The fries were delicious! I have also tried their mussels in the past and really enjoyed them. The staff is fantastic, every single time I've been in there I've been treated like family. My wife and I split an hors d'oeuvre, small plate and large plate. The shrimp toast "snack" was AMAZING. So good, definitely recommend. The market salad was a bit of a disappointment. You don't get much for the price, and having only endive in the salad made it feel even like less. On to the main course--hazelnut Bolognese rigatoni. I knew this was a vegan dish, so wasn't expecting it to be meaty, but still it felt like something was missing from this dish--it was tasty, but not very rich or filling. And finally, the Chocolate Pot de Creme: very rich and very chocolatey. A bit too chocolatey for me, I would have liked more of a milk chocolate vibe, but this was definitely dark. I really like the atmosphere of this place, it feels very intimate. It also felt a little "pretentious", perhaps this was just the clientele the night we visited, but everyone seemed to be trying to impress someone. The service was very attentive--I don't know that my water glass (which was small) ever got below half full (yeah, I'm that kinda guy). But this might have been because we arrived at opening when there was little else for the wait staff to do. Nightingale is a go to between my friends. When I moved to Minneapolis, I was told to come here for their espresso martinis, which are decent, but I've had better at a few other spots. I do really like their french fries and try to order some every time I come in. I was not the biggest fan of the scallops when I ordered them the first time, but their shrimp toast was delicious. Last time I was in, my girlfriend and I ordered both the west and east coast oysters (west coast was a winner) and I will be getting those again! The service here is phenomenal. You have the sweetest people working here who check up on you often. Menu is very descriptive and the food is plated beautifully. They use local sources for their food so I feel good eating here. I took off one star because the food wasn't amazing. The only dish I really liked were the fries. We had mussels, octopus, and shrimp toast. The mussel broth wasn't remarkable. I ate there yesterday and forgot what it tasted like. The octopus is not as good as what you get at Martina, but it was one of the better dishes, not too tough. The shrimp toast was really greasy and not really good in my opinion. I would come here again because I like the ambience but I wouldn't come if I were super hungry. read more
