Ordered the fried whiting meal again today with sweet potatoes and potato salad as my sides via DoorDash. Still 5 stars! I learned that if you want the whiting, definitely order earlier in the day as it sells out quick and I understand why. It's so delicious! The sweet potatoes were buttery and sweet. I honestly can't say how unbelievably amazing this food is. I talked to Cheryl a few weeks back and did not get a chance to order but being in a class all day today I took the dive in. My sister recommended this fantastic hidden gem. On a cold Sunday afternoon, we called in our takeout order. After driving right by it and turning back, the search was worth the hunt (they are located in the basement of the building that houses Shiloh's Temple - look for the small sign). I love supporting women in business and owner Cheryl knows her way around the kitchen. She could not have been more friendly and her cooking was just what the doctor ordered! Delicious, home cooked, Southern comfort food. We ordered mac & cheese, fried chicken, ribs, coconut rice, braised collard greens, wings and banana pudding. Since we traveled about 20 minutes to get the food home and then it sat for a few minutes upon arrival, the rice and the mac & cheese were not as moist as if we had eaten them when served - not Cheryl's fault at all. Everything else was beyond delicious. The chicken wings with basic BBQ sauce were seriously THE BEST wings we'd ever eaten...bar none! The braised collard greens and banana pudding were perfection. I grew up in bellport and was raised on spicys bbq(rip) and I must say this is more than a worthy replacement if not a total upgrade based on the potato salad alone . I have always been partial to certain dishes that my mother made. Salmon and yams are two of them. I hope my mother forgives me, but OMG this stuff melted in your mouth. I got there at 430, and I was lucky enough to get the last piece of salmon. I was meant to have it. I strongly urge you to get there early when they first open because her stuff goes quick. 3 or 330 at the latest. She also has cakes baked by a professional baker. On my last delivery the waffle was a little smaller than usual so they threw in an extra piece of chicken no charge, without even being asked, and even wrote me a little note on my container explaining. Omg. The ribs. The ribs are amazing. My husband and I both thought they are the best ribs we've ever had. Our picky eater daughter loved them too. They are lightly coated with a lovely fruity sauce, smoky enough, but not overwhelming...so good that my normally very generous husband swiped some of mine! The fried shrimp were also exceptional...light and crispy coating...very fresh tasting. The sides were great...we had collard greens, string beans, mac and cheese, yams and french fries. We had fried chicken too...which was also very good. The yams though...I could dream about those yams. Since I'm not supposed to eat sweets, I'll save those for my dessert next time and be very satisfied. I am a really good cook, and this meal was like a really good homemade meal--something I myself would be proud to put on my table..(except I can't make ribs that good, and I don't think I could make such light and crisp fried shrimp either!) Ohhhh...I almost forgot...the tartar sauce. YES. You read that right! The tartar sauce is not to be missed...even if you don't get something it comes with...you've got to ask to try it! So, no matter what the food is like, a meal is not as good when people aren't nice...well, the owner was incredibly sweet, welcoming, and very patient as we tried to decide what to order. We felt like the most welcome guests, which only served to make the meal that much better. I ordered the chicken and waffles and sweet potato pancakes.The food was 10/10!!! Literally everyone at the party wouldn't stop asking where I ordered from. Absolutely AMAZING! I lived in Florida and North Carolina for several years and two of the things I've always said that I miss most about the South were the people and the food! I haven't had good southern cookin like this in a LOOONNNGGG time and certainly not anywhere else here on Long Island!
