They were light and tasted more like juice mix than an actual cocktail. For $15 each, I expected more kick and more fresh mint and lime flavor. Definitely start with the queso frito. It's a definite hit. We had churrasco steaks with gallo pinto (rice and red beans) with tostones and a salad. You can definitely enjoy the fresh juices there as well. The waitstaff was very helpful and checked on us frequently. A lunch stop while running our yearly shopping tirade at Dolphin mall. We enjoyed our outdoor seating to gander at all the crowded action and shared an appetizer and platter. The fish and chips app was well done, nice and crispy. Our platter of churasco with bacon wrapped shrimp and fries hit the spot it's a great sharing dish. The server was attentive and very helpful with the menu, there really isn't anything bad here to say or to be displeased with. I've been staying in Doral for 15+ years now and I've always walked pass this place thinking it wasn't good. A shame why I would think that and I'm mad that I didn't know how good this place was until now... but now I do know so I'll most definitely will be coming back to try their other entrees in the menu. This restaurant is about 3 1/2 ... pretty good for what it is. We've been coming here for more than 15 years and stop in for lunch most times we visit the Dolphin Mall. It's in an entrance with a bunch of other restaurants and can get lost in the shuffle. It hasn't changed much over the years --- and probably could use an update. But you don't come here for the ambiance, just solid Latin food -- especially their churasco. They have the same menu for lunch as for dinner with no lunch specials. They will push the "baby" churasco steak (6 oz)and that is what we've gotten most times as we've run in and out before a work assignment. This time, we figured out we could order a bigger steak and share it. Their medium size is 10 oz and their large or "presidente" was even bigger. So for less money than two baby steaks, we ordered the large churasco steak and split it. We also shared two sides that come with it -- we chose moros (beans & rice mixed) and maduros (fried sweet plantains). Now that I recall, I think one of the reasons we each ordered separately in the past, was cause I was craving their thin French fries or maybe some white rice instead. But you can always add an extra side for a small fee, The steak came out perfectly cooked to medium as ordered along with an extra plate. We split the order to taste. On the table they have condiment jars -- one with hot sauce, one with marinated onions and jalapeños, and the third with traditional green chimichurri sauce, my favorite. Chimichurri has oil, garlic, and parsley mixed together. Different countries have their own mix adding cilantro and/or oregano and sometimes vinegar as well as hot pepper flakes, etc. It's not usually spicy, but always adds a bit of flavor pizzazz to any meat. For dessert, we shared a caramel flan. Their flan is one of the better ones. None of that cheesecake texture here -- just creamy pudding over a burnt sugar syrup. read more

My favorite thing about Charcoals is the chimichurri sauce. The skirtsteak is cooked well, but doesn't have a whole lot of flavor by itself. We also ordered the creamy garlic chicken pasta and it was mediocre - really creamy (which doesn't bother me) and pretty plain. It was better once I added some hot sauce though. The "garlic parmesan" bread it comes with (which I was super excited for) was nothing more than lightly buttered Cuban toast. When it came time to pay the bill, I presented the Yelp discount on my phone that popped up when I checked in. Our waitress (who was friendly, by the way) said she's never seen that before so had to bring my phone to the back to consult the manager. After maybe 10 minutes, she came back with the check minus the discount. I had to remind her that my phone was still being held in custody before getting it back. So yes, we got the discount but no, I didn't feel comfortable with my phone being taken to an undisclosed location for an extended period of time. There is something about gallo pinto and churrasco that always calls me name. I've been to Charcoals numerous times and the food is usually consistent. Today I had the baby churrasco, Gallo pinto (rice with beans) and tajadas (plantain chips) and of course with the usual side of chimichurri. The portions are large so I was able to take half home for a later meal. The service at this location isn't the best. Considering they have signs around the venue encouraging yelpers to leave reviews you would think they would try a little harder to get your vote. I waited approximately 15minutes just to get a menu from a server. I ordered right away and the food came out fairly fast. I had to wait another 15 minutes or so just to get someone's attention for the check. Needless to say, if you are in a hurry this is not the place for you. read more

Not at all my cup of tea. For food my sister and I split the lomo saltado which was quite decent. The beef in it was a little well done for my liking, but none the less tasted good with the sauce. I would have given this place 2 stars, but they give you very good hot sauce to eat the food with which enhanced the taste quite a lot, hence one more star. A great casual place to get high quality churrasco steak and friendly service. It is convenient, being at the entrance of the Dolphin Mall. It is reasonably priced. After a long day of walking and shopping, we decided to stop in this place to eat. Priced well not expensive and the food is very good.

This place has taken a down turn. I've been coming to the various locations over the years and have really been impressed with their food. They used to be authentic with some very flavorful plates, but that has been replaced with tasteless food and mediocre service. This is unfortunate since there are so many nearby better options available to compete with them, which was probably why they were almost empty for lunch. To begin with they would offer a lunch option, which has gone away. So you're paying dinner prices for a lunch. That wouldn't be so bad if the servings and offerings were proportional, but they aren't. The servings can be limited and no outside offerings like a salad or bread. For the money and poor food I'd recommend trying something else. Look up Nicaraguan food and you can find MUCH better restaurants a short ride away. read more

Great price for a platter. We got the Havana platter but all the food was pretty oily. The tostones were stale and the yuca frita had a weird sweet taste. The chicarrón was good just again, OILY!!! I came here on Thursday 01/03/19 for lunch at around 11:30. It was my first time and it was empty, so I figured there would be no issue. Environment: the place is a decent side with outside seating. Service: was quick at the beggining. We put our order of two beers and the fried pork chunks. We got our beers and so far it was great because it was quick, but after that the server disappeared and never came back. Note, when we came in the place was empty. I had to flag the waiter to even check up on us to get us water. 30-40 minutes later the food was still not there, mind you I don't mind waiting, but the place was empty when I placed my order and the waiter never came in between to see if we needed anything else. Now the place was full, I am looking around and people that got there way after I did were eating and I still did not have my food yet. I ask for the waiter what happened with my food and he said that it was coming. I asked for the manager and the manager shows up 10 more minutes later with the food and with a tucked off face. He gives me the excuse that they had an issue with the pork. I usually don't mind waiting a little longer if something happened in the kitchen as long as you inform me or tell me. The fact that the manager was pissed off when he served me my food almost and hour after I ordered was what made this experience even worse. Food: the pork was good, but the side of beans was mostly water or "sauce" if you even want to call it that. I mean if the service wasn't so bad this place would have definitely received more stars. Overall, not a place I would recommend. The service kind of ruined it on my end and the manager made it worse for me. read more

The only thing that kind of made me sad was the fact that I could make a better hamburger at home, and I asked for water and the very fact it was warm (other than the ice that was freshly added to it) tells me that it was tap water.
