Actually thought this restaurant would be super fancy cause it's in the Thompson Hotel but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't! There were folks dressed up but also lots of folks dressed casually. It was an impromptu dinner after some shopping so we were not dressed up at all. We didn't feel uncomfortable though.. the food was decently priced and my first assumption was that it was small small portions - this was definitely not the case! They were decently sized and we ended up with more than enough food! The croque monsier gougeres bites were pretty delicious! I actually really liked the black truffle & escargot vol-au-vent! It comes with a flakey pastry and some sauce on top! Wish they had more escargots on top or at least some butter escargots on the menu! The crab & endive caesar was my least favorite - basically little endive boats of crab caesar. It was a bit on the bitter side, like any endive, guess it just wasn't my cup of tea. The caramelized onion soup was fantastic and I loved how rich it was with the oxtail buillon! I would get this again in a heart beat, especially when fall/winter rolls around. The gnocchi was delicious and I loved the chunky garlic tomato sauce! The Moules frites had a nice cream sauce and can't complain of duck fat fries! Service was lacking - we couldn't find our server anywhere and she was super duper slow! We actually ended up asking the GM for things cause he was more readily available. Overall, we enjoyed our experience! Ambiance for us was more like bar dining cause we sat in the seats/tables right in front of the bar. Had the best time here last night. The decor is beautiful. The deviled eggs with caviar, steak au poivre, steak bordelaise, and Madeline dessert are must orders. All the desserts were delicious. The French martini was great, sweet but creamy strawberry flavor. I could go here just for the bread and butter. The only thing I would pass on is the escargot. My friends and I had the pleasure of dining at Chardon. Right when we walked in, we were blown away with the beautiful decor and ambiance inside. I would highly recommend Gabriela as a server! Gabriela was wonderful with all of her recommendations and her service was spectacular. I appreciated her quickness with making sure we had clean plates and silverware between each course. Her attention to detail made our dining experience even better. Our table really enjoyed everything, from the cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desserts! My husband booked Chardon for my birthday today. We arrived and were promptly seated. Good service. Our server was very personable. Our table of four had the following: escargot, onion soup, burgers, steak frites, Beef Cheek Bourguignon, crème brûlée, & Crunchy Profiteroles. Very mixed reviews at our table. Escargot was not great. It was edible, but in the bottom scale of escargots I had had. Burger was fantastic. Steak frites was decent, but not great. The duck fat fries weren't very good; Something was off. Most disappointing was the crème brûlée which is my favorite dessert. I don't I've ever had one I didn't eat. It was horrible. Three bites were taken out of it & not a question was asked when our table was bussed. Lastly, they must not do anything for birthdays. It's ok. It's not expected, just strange. Just opened this week. Excellent experience. The bisous tower was whimsical and delicious. The details were beautiful. French food with a Texas touch. Onion soup served with red wine like the medieval monks liked it. Beef Bourguignon was just perfect, melt in your mouth. We chose our meal for a very cold and rainy February night. Green chartreuse crème brûlée for dessert had a mild, beautiful flavor and was the perfect shareable with a Paul Prieur Sancerre. The experience at Chardon was disappointing at best. Chardon had been recommended to me by someone whose opinion I respect and we were excited to visit for our anniversary. While the service was slow and not very attentive, it could have been forgiven with good quality food. Some points for consideration: The cocktails were great, but it took some time from when I finished my first cocktail before I could order another one. The croque monsieur gougeres were terrible and inedible - my wife and I each took a bite and left the rest. We could have given feedback on this except our server did not return to check on the quality of the food. It appears that there was a cutout of the menu included with my food. Not sure why or what the purpose was, but not something I would expect and certainly not something I appreciated. I had requested for the burger to be cooked medium, it came out well done. Once again I was unable to give this feedback for quite some time as the server did not check on us. To their credit at least the flavor of the burger was good. Our macaroni gratin was served with some unknown plastic which was beyond disgusting to have to have in my mouth and spit out. See attached images. The greatest issue I had - if something like this were to have happened anywhere else the meal would have been fully comped, instead I had to pay money to have a bad experience, bad food, bad service, and literal trash in my food on my anniversary. My wife and I stayed at the Thompson this weekend to celebrate our Babymoon. We decided to give Chardon a try and were not disappointed! The ambiance was great, service was excellent and food was tremendous. Hector and Autumn tended to our every need and were extremely kind and caring. Steak was cooked perfectly and the hors d'oeuvres were unique and delicious. We will definitely be back and will add this to our shortlist of favorite restaurants in Houston. read more

Wife and I went for HRW dinner, and were a little scared based on recent reviews about sub-par service, but our waiter Rakevion was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional, as was everyone else we interacted with. The place is beautiful, and the food was for the most part amazing. Butter lettuce salad was fresh and light with a delicious dressing, French onion soup was rich and decadent, gnocchi and vegetables was sublime (one of the best things I've ever eaten), and the Almond Sponge, Strawberry Liqueur, Vanilla Diplomat, and Fresh Strawberries dessert was perfect. The seared tuna was just okay, seemed overcooked and not up to the standard of the other dishes, and the creme brulee was just fairly standard creme brulee, nothing to write home about (but my wife liked it). Came to see what the hype is all about at this restaurant. Yes you should be dressed business casual for this restaurant. The restaurant is decorated very plush and French so maybe on your best manners also. Valet in the front of the hotel or you can pay for a pay lot which equals out about the same money. The bread and butter given after you order is very good. The wait staff I guess is ok but if the chef want this to be top rated the staff has to be better. Some of the similar restaurants won't name which ones have much better service. Can tell also some of the bus boy or girls just riding the wave( looking like they r doing something but not) it's ok after covid unfortunately normal but should be looked down upon at a higher end restaurant. The appetizer tower most people get items are good ideas but the standouts are the madeleines and macros. Radish ??? Not sure why?? The oyster Rockefeller ok. The crepe Mille feuille good idea but gets redundant. The main duck was very good. The Dover sole looks good but not sure worth almost $100. Don't get me wrong, beautiful place and upscale all the way, but sort of expected a little more. I believe I was over charged a few items but didn't notice on bill till next day. I also think it's crazy to charge $11 for a bottle of still water. We had both still sparkling water but they didn't mention that still wasn't just tap water vs bottled. We had 4 bottles of water and just seemed to unnecessarily inflate the bill. Food was fine - nothing over the top. Dover sole and ribeyes were good. At times, service could have been better. Sharing salads but had no individual plates before salad. Could have bussed/clean table better - remove crumbs and debris in between courses. I made a reservation for my birthday for a large party, and I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to sit in a private room. The decor and aesthetics are beautiful. The service was amazing. They were very patient with a large group, especially close to closing. I believe our waiter was, Rakevion, who was amazing and made the experience 10/10. I tried the pastry basket, the chocolate croissant was great, the iced coffee was okay- they have no flavors available but quality is the coffee was fine. I got the croissant Benedict which was amazing. The croissant twist made it amazing and very tasty. I had the French toast as well which was great. Went on a Saturday around 8:45 pm and added our names to the waitlist. My friend and I prefer the bar so we were happy when 3 chairs became available as we approached (we were a party of 2). Unfortunately, someone came and told my friend that someone had been waiting longer for his chair so he had to give it up. There was no reserve sign and most bars are first come first serve. It wasn't a nice feeling to say the least. Once seated, the table was super uncomfortable. Which is fine. I will say the food was lovely and the poivre sauce was prepared exceptionally. The bordelaise sauce needed to be thickened but the flavor was there. The aioli for the fries was sublime. The foie gras plate should be called something else since it takes up less than half of the ingredients/components. The part that is difficult to overcome was the service and time it took to get anything. My friend had an empty drink and wasn't offered a new one (~15 mins empty). We drank our bottle of water and were never offered another one. We also were not given the option for regular water. I ordered a bottle of wine when ordering our apps and asked them to open it and let it breathe and to serve it with our entrees. There was no room at the table for the bottle. The server never brought out the wine to open and air until just before our entree was served. I was told that the vintage I wanted was no longer available and asked what the price difference was which took another 5 to 8 minutes to find out. And then the server opened it, let me taste it, and then placed it behind us without asking us if we wanted to start enjoying it (at this point the apps were gone). So we grabbed it and poured it for ourselves. It felt like we were hardly checked on which I found interesting with so many people working. At the end of the day, we felt unwelcome and frankly, not valued. I'm not sure why that is. I am in hospitality and typically have no complaints, but this experience still has me contemplating it after two weeks. read more

We celebrated out 45th anniversary here last night and it was exceptional in every way. The staff is friendly and expert in their service. The food was delicous from starters to entrees to dessert. Even the drink presentations went beyond special (the martinis with the mini carafe on the side was creative and classy). We can't wait to have another special occasion to celebrate to come back to this very special restaurant. It is very expensive but cheaper than trip to Paris and without the jet lag :) read more
