3/6/26-Michelin Man? More like Michelin...maaaaaaan... In good Mel and the Doctor fashion, a rough week equates to "let's go have a great night." We get dressed up and venture to Le Jardinier. While we were super excited and ready for a great Friday evening, we checked in with an unwelcoming hostess. Mind you, this is our first impression since we have never been to any of the locations. He asked the hostess if we would be seated close or after our reservation time (that would determine if we would have a drink at the bar), we received a condescending toned response of "you can have a seat and I will work on getting a status update on that." Duly noted. A few minutes later we were told we could go to the bar to only then be escorted to the table. So we will look past that "weirdness" of initial service and get ready for a stiff drink...the bartenders know what they are doing! Martinis were the name of the game and they were perfect. Just perfect. The prefixe and wine pairing was the game plan. But before the fun stuff, came the bread service. Bread was more than bread, it was warm savory pillows with the perfect butter. Made a crumbly mess while tearing up the bread basket, expected table crumbler service, after, nothing. For Michelin, we expected the fine dining cleaning in between each course. The service was odd, and the servers seemed cold. The kanpachi and the scallop of the prefixe were Michelin. We came here for lunch for the winter menu. For a michelin star restaurant, the service and the ambiance were top notch. Absolutely beautiful located in the Museum of Fine Arts. Food-wise I would say it was lacking in any of the wow factor. I tried the poached egg. It tasted like a poached egg. The salads felt basic and some of the main dishes we got just tasted average. I would say the experience itself is nice because of the setting but the food didn't wow me. read more

My husband and I went to Le Jardinier for my birthday dinner this year. Located inside of the Museum of Fine Arts, it's quite a romantic and darkly lit restaurant and what sounds like electronic music playing in the background. We were greeted with smiles and congratulations for the year, which was a nice touch. I was also gifted a celebration cake (a bright and acidic gelee on top of a delicious creamy vanilla custard and delicious fruity cake in the center). The staff were courteous and attentive, never allowing my water glass to fall below half. Highlights of the meal were the pommes dauphine (which tasted just like traditional pao de quiejo; my husband's favorite bite of the night), the Gruyère rolls in the complimentary bread basket, and the beautifully seasoned and cooked wagyu. I'm not sure if it's because of how huge the reputation is for this restaurant is, but it did leave me wanting a bit more, so I can't give it 5/5 stars. One decaf and one regular cappuccino. We got americano. We asked again. No apology and then brought full caffeine ones. Still wrong. No apology. The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived. Parking was plentiful in the parking garage & our parking was validated by the restaurant too. The ambiance was really great. Lots of art around & a pleasant vibe. The restaurant felt upscale and chic. Service was really great- from the hostess to our waiter - we were well taken care of. The food was really delicious. We got the fall tasting course. Everything had a nice unique flavor and pushed boundaries. I also thought the plating was really great. Came in for the art lovers lunch, and definitely have to give perks for the artistry on the plate. The burrata was great, both visually and taste wise, with the different sauces all hitting different notes. I ran into problems with the Seabass though. I thought the fish was too aggressively seasoned. By itself, it was only slightly noticeable, but eating it with the sauce, the saltines became very apparent. We had a lovely experience at Le Jardinier -- Michelin- one starred restaurant -- and the space felt elegant and refined, with service that matched the atmosphere. My favorite dish of the night was the tea-spiced duck -- beautifully cooked, aromatic, and full of depth. The most disappointing dish was the lobster vol-au-vent. The flavors were nice, but the pastry was quite soggy. The desserts, on the other hand, were a highlight -- visually stunning and delicious, especially the birthday dessert, which was thoughtful and beautifully presented. The bread basket was also surprisingly good. We also stopped by the museum's Café Leonelli earlier, and learned it's actually the sister café to Le Jardinier, run by the same hospitality group. Their desserts were excellent as well, which makes sense given the shared culinary team -- beautifully made and surprisingly refined for a museum café. Overall, a sophisticated dining experience with some standout dishes and gorgeous presentation. Four stars. I suggest arriving early to check out the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). This was one experience the girls and I were anxiously awaiting for a few weeks - we were so excited! Highly recommend a reservation as Le Jardinier is only open from 11:30AM to 2PM. When you arrive, you will see a parking garage or valet ($15) option. We opted for valet this day; I gave them my phone number and you could pay and request your car through the link they texted you - very convenient. Walking in, it is beautiful and makes me want to come back for another trip to the museum. Across the way, you see the restaurant entrance and the hostess is there to greet you. She was so friendly and helpful! The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully with green velvet seats and booths, and a colorful tapestry hanging on the wall near the entrance. It is not a large restaurant (hence the reservation recommendation). The entire far wall is glass, with great views of several sculptures - truly beautiful. The service was excellent throughout. Our group opted for the summer tasting menu; a 4 course meal that allows you to taste several things on the menu. It is a fixed menu and everyone at the table must order it. We started with deviled eggs and a small juice (palate cleanser), whipped burrata (my favorite!), eggs on eggs (caviar and eggs with toast), filet minon, and the peach tart. Had an amazing dinner here with my boyfriend! The interior is elegant and romantic - we were so lucky to be seated in a comfortable, spacious booth where we were looking out into the sculpture garden. The big glass windows and the massive tapestry are a beautifuk touch to the interior, as well as the suede sage green seating. We came here during Houston Restaurant Week: I got the Corn Veloute, Chicken, and Dark Chocolate Cremeux. I wasn't too big of a fan of the corn, but the chicken and the dark chocolate dessert were excellent! My boyfriend got the Risotto which was my personal favorite of the night. I'd highly recommend pairing the chicken with the risotto. Outside of what you order, we were served a warm bread basket, an amuse bouche juice, and a closer of a small piece of pound cake. My boyfriend ordered a small glass of the Bastor Lamontagne - a sweet dessert wine. The sommelier came by and let him taste it before pouring his glass. The wine itself was delicious! The service here is top notch - they put everyone's plate down at the same time and give a quick overview of the dish. They are attentive and a manager even struck up some conversation with my boyfriend while I was out at the restroom. True hospitality and warmth. Park in the MFA garage (enter off of Montrose, garage goes down) and access the restaurant by walking through the tunnel and going up to the 1st floor. They validate parking! read more

We were here for lunch and food was very good. Service can surely be better. We had to wait one of the entree for our tables of 4 so my chicken got cold and I personally don't like my food to be cold. I was surprised to see this happened to a Michelin star restaurant. Of course no excuses from anyone. They decide to take off $10 appetizer from our bill without any explanation neither. It's a good gesture from them but for a restaurant of this scale this shouldn't even happen at all. Again the servers uniforms quite bothering me with a black jeans and the wrinkle top. Visited this restaurant tonight for the very first time and I was truly impressed with the level of service and attention. This restaurant which is located in the Houston MFA museum is also really beautifully designed inside with tall windows looking at the greenery outside of the art museum. The hostess who checked me in was really kind and attentive. My waiter Fleming was also truly amazing. They start by bringing you bread and butter as well as a complimentary small juice which I tasted hints of citrus and ginger. For my main course I ordered the green circle chicken and my gosh the flavors were truly amazing. For dessert I ordered in bloom which was truly magical and beautiful and tasted amazing. They also bring you a complimentary finishing touch dessert which is also truly amazing and I tasted the hints of almond. I've had remarkable experiences at other Le Jardinier locations, but this one, from a Michelin standpoint, has always felt fairly unimpressionable. The food is good, yet not memorable enough to justify the reputation it aims to uphold. Unfortunately, this most recent visit highlighted service issues as well. Not one, but two portions of wagyu that were specifically requested to be packed to go were never given to us. For a restaurant operating at this price point and caliber, that kind of oversight is disappointing and shouldn't happen (In which the solution was to fetch our food before closing). Overall, while the experience wasn't terrible, it fell short both in execution and attention to detail. Between the lack of distinction in the food and the service lapse, it's hard to feel compelled to return (this was my fourth try). read more

Le jardinier has been on my list of restaurants to visit, so my expectations were high. We opted to dip our feet in the water by trying their art lovers lunch. The service was nice and our waiter was lovely, the food was another story. Both of us ordered the chilled fennel veloute as an appetizer. We were underwhelmed, the dish lacked seasoning and it just fell flat. My sister had the Spanish rabbit tortellini, it was the best dish we ordered. It came in a delicate broth and was overall good. My branzino was under seasoned and the fennel and quinoa didn't elevate it enough. Bread service is good and again service was great. I noticed a lot of people ordered the salmon dish and maybe we will come back for a second try. Lovely wine list by the glass and even though we didn't have any cocktails, the ones listed on the menu sounded promising. It is minimal yet refined and elegant. The parking situation is garage parking, but they do validate so remember to bring your parking stub in! Food & Drink - 5* We've been here three times now, once for brunch and twice for dinner. The menu always has something unique and rotating which keeps it fresh. The cocktails are just . The meals are beautifully presented and simply divine. Service - 5* Every single time the service has been focused and attentive. Water refilled in a timely manner, the staff is very fsimilar with each and every dish, how it's prepared, the flavors, and can make very good recommendations. It's something that you don't get at many places and it's appreciated! Cost - 4* It's pricey, but considering the prestige and attention it receives, it could be much much higher. I've been to several Michelin recommended establishments and in comparison, this one is quite reasonable. Overall - 5* I don't know what else to say other than just give this place a go when you have a reason to celebrate. It's a great date night, birthday, anniversary, or just a regular Sunday brunch day! Le Jardinier is probably the fanciest restaurant I've ever been to. The service was exactly what you think of when you think of fine dining. The restaurant is located in the museum - I parked in the garage, following signage for restaurant parking and then followed signage to make my way through the museum into the restaurant. They validate parking at the host stand! I came for restaurant week and was super pleased honestly. I ordered the corn veloute, chicken, and ice cream. I'd definitely recommend the veloute and chicken - both were really tasty and the chicken was honestly pretty filling for me. The ice cream flavors were all very rich - the pistachio was my favorite and coffee was my least favorite just because it was super bitter, but honestly maybe that was pretty good to counteract the sweetness of the other two flavors. The interior is very elegant but the tables are a bit close together since the overall dining space is a little small (compared to a regular standalone restaurant size). Dress is definitely business casual - think dresses/nice tops and bottoms/heels for women and suits/button downs for men. I really enjoyed the experience for restaurant week (3 courses for $55 is a steal). Not sure if it's as worth it for a regular visit since I'm sure the regular prices are way up there, but I'm sure you are also paying for the experience and service read more

Every dish was amazing, but the Burrata, simple as it sounds, was my favorite--the flavors came together perfectly. The service was excellent, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the location inside the Museum of Fine Arts made it feel extra special. Even the complimentary bread was incredible! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu--it's all fantastic. If I could do it all over again, I'd stick with the same dishes, though I might try a different dessert next time. Update: Still a 5-star rating! The service is friendly and the interior is dimmer than when I came in the summer; the blinds are open now versus closed previously. The bread was warm which was amazing; it is much improved from the last time. I felt as if the sommelier stumbled with questions and wasn't very familiar or well-spoken. 1st course: not my favorite. The shrimp was chewy and the fishy, saline taste overpowered everything. I could feel the spice but I didn't taste anything over the overt tough, seafood taste. The caviar provided substantial salinity so it was quite unpleasant that the rest of the dish was so salty. 2nd course: the soufflé was delicious and exemplified the simplicity and how stunning French cuisine is. 3rd course: the wine pairing was excellent and the best part of the course. The sauce and dandelion greens were bitter and overpowering. The artichoke hearts were very difficult to chew and overpowering. The restaurant manager came and was receptive to feedback. He offered another course. The duck a l'orange was exceptional! The duck was so tender and the brightness of the sauce was beautiful with the savory seasoning and gaminess of the duck. This was the best course I've had in a long time! 4th course: the filet was so tender and delicious. The sauces were complementary and amazing; the horseradish sauce was great and cut through the savoriness of the filet. The later courses were the nuanced dishes I would except from a French Michelin-starred restaurant. They were more so developing cohesive flavors. Dessert: the apple mille feuille was delicious; it was sweet but not overtly. The buttery pastry and ice cream helped it from not being oversweet. The raspberry dessert was also tart and sweet without being cloyingly sweet. Everyone there was so nice and accommodating! This was my first Michelin star dining experience in the United States, and it exceeded all expectations! I started with a creative cocktail infused with cocoa butter & other unique flavors-- such a delightful way to begin a meal. For the main course, we had a tender fish with a crust that had an almost crème brûlée like texture. The pasta course was equally as impressive. However, the dessert was the show stopper. The beautifully plated yuzu and pistachio creamed dessert featured a delicate butterfly crafted from a wafer-- such an artistic and delicate touch. We had high expectations from a Michelin star restaurant. The ambience was great. The cocktails were good, although the server mixed them up and did not know which one was which. This was not our main server. Our main server, Robin, was great, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the summer tasting menu, which was a five course meal. The breads were delicious, followed corn veloute served with popcorn. The veloutte was a little salty. A drop of Madras curry oil was a great touch. This was followed by lobster salad with heirloom tomatoes, avocados, and peaches. The ingredients were very fresh, but the dressing was just oil and balsamic vinegar drizzled. We expected more. A fresh lemon vinaigrette what happen a fantastic touch. This was followed by a grilled turbot and the fish was perfectly cooked. The sauce, however, was mediocre with tomatoes, capers, and olive oil all raw. After that was beef Wellington. This was really good. It was served with mashed potatoes, but they were a little gummy. We were told it was served with welted greens, but it tasted like parsley salad. Nice refreshing touch for a summer menu. The final course was dessert, which was some kind of a baked peach inside a macaroon type ring. It was fine, but the peach was very tart. The ice cream was good. The first three courses felt rushed, and the server was not clear on what was served, and how it should be eaten. For example, was the popcorn supposed to be added to the Velloute? The chef never came out to introduce himself or check on us. We had seven drinks, four summer testing menus. And tip for a $1200 tab. We discussed this menu and experience as a family. Would we come back for this meal for $1200? absolutely not. What was lacking was flavors. Also, I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants and usually the presentation of food is unique. Started both dinners with the 2oz of caviar because who doesn't like a caviar service?! It comes with the usual accoutrements.. eggs, onions, creme fraiche and some sweet pancakes. The foie gras parfait was rich.. with a port reduction, cherries and berries served with a sour dough. It had good flavors, though a bit much when having it alone. The citrus cured hirmasa was a beautiful dish that speaks to what Le Jardinier stands for.. the bright colors of the garden. Refreshing and flavorful, though on a the small side. The PEI mussels are served with Spanish Chorizo, which makes the dish so flavorful and delightful. The dishes that stood out the most to us were the grains!!! The Parisian Gnocchi with lardon and wild mushrooms, the truffle tagliatelle, and the summer ravioli were fantastic! Favorites of the night were definitely the truffle tagliatelle and the Parisian gnocchi coming in a close 2nd. The butterfly dessert was visually stunning, everything edible, including the butterfly. The donut like ring was made of yuzu with a raspberry compote on the middle. A nice mix of flavors, though not my favorite in terms of textures for a dessert. Maybe slightly too sweet as well. We went in late August of 2025, and a few things to note: Food: a) The bread service was good, three different options and the butter was pretty tasty. I liked that they served a more brioche style roll, a parmesan style stick, and a normal piece of bread. b) the burrata was great, the iberico ham meshed well with the peaches and the rich taste of the cheese c) The corn soup comes cold, and it is a very bland style soup, but it was still delicious! Paired well with the more rich burrata and dense bread. d) The steak au poivre was good, but the peppercorn sauce was more of a sweet glaze than a creamy sauce. It felt like there was less of it than there could be for a standard restaurant. The mashed potatoes were very creamy and likely had a stick of butter, but they didn't taste too buttery. e) The dessert was perhaps the best part, a sort of chocolate foam on top of mousse and a hard shell bottom. 10/10 Service: The service was good, but we had a waiter that seemed less motivated than usual. Since we had just gone to BCN, we felt like Le Jard was clearly outclassed here. Ambiance: Very good ambiance as it is within the MFA. Had an incredible brunch at Le Jardinier! Le Jardinier is located in the Museum of Fine Arts! There is a parking garage in the building, and the restaurant provides free validation. I highly recommend you check out the museum before/after dining at Le Jardinier. The service was amazing from start to finish. The restaurant is beautiful with multiple art pieces that really help set the mood! We began our meal with complimentary bread and olive oil, and a palate cleanser. Both were delicious! For starters we got the beef tartare and the Squid ink tartine. Honestly their take on beef tartare is one of my favorites I've ever had. The beef was so fresh and the truffle dressing elevated each bite! The squid ink tartine was refreshing, and the avocado was nice and bright. It was good but I wouldn't order it again! For our entrees, we ordered the Carolina gold rice risotto and the salmon. The risotto was incredible, and I understand why this is such a popular dish!! You absolutely must try this especially if you love mushrooms. The salmon was delicious and light. The salad that accompanied it paired perfectly. I loved the smoked trout roe on top that popped with each bite of salmon! Overall, I definitely understand why they received a Michelin Star, and I highly recommend the restaurant! read more

Did the star go to the team's head? They were more invested in bragging about the recent Michelin award, which they mentioned several times, than paying attention to us as guests. In stark contrast to last year, they did not pay attention to the notes and even asked after we sat, "are you celebrating something"? We called just two hours before to make sure the staff *knew* and knew our requests, but they clearly did not. They also sat us a small table in the middle, which did not suit our expectations for a special *celebration* feel. We ended up walking out only 15 minutes into our reservation. Honestly, the valet staff outside was much more kind, thoughtful, and attentive than the Le Jardinier team. Such a huge let down on a really important day. read more

Went for a midweek Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) dinner with my friend, Tiffany. So nice to sit, relax and enjoy a beautiful evening. Make a reservation as they are quite busy, even on a Tuesday night. No main dining room seating until after 9 PM. Our lounge seating at a two top table was very comfy. In the summer, definitely too hot to sit out in the sculpture garden, but I bet it would be beautiful on a cool autumn evening. The three course dinner for HRW is $55 which includes an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. Service was amazing throughout our three hour meal. Christian was our main waiter. He was great. Our drinks were always full, we had different servers explain each course and my ice came in a small crystal glass with a pair of tongs. Very elegant. Started with an amuse bouche to cleanse the palate. The fresh pressed juice with ginger was delicious. I could have happily ordered a glass of this. For our appetizers, I had the citrus cured hiramasa (yellowtail) with buttermilk, small mango cubes and the most delicate cucumber curls. So beautiful and so delicious. I'm so glad that my friend got the whipped burrata because I wanted to try that as well. So light and airy. Perfectly paired with fresh stone fruits, marinated cherry tomatoes and pine nuts. Amazing! Noshed on the most delicious Gruyere rolls and a seeded baguette as we waited for our entrees. Love how the olive oil was poured into a small, white ceramic dipping dish. The olive oil was so fragrant. A nice touch. The verlasso salmon was cooked perfectly with a crispy skin. Loved the courgettes and the saffron tomato coulis, but would have liked a bit more salmon. The heritage chicken with assorted roasted mushrooms was also so delicious, so moist and so tender. For dessert, the chocolate sabayon was okay. Would probably not order this one again. The strawberry mousse was so cute and tasty. Wish that their signature butterfly dessert would have been offered. It looks like it belongs in a museum. Our meal closed out with a couple of lemon poppy seed bites. The perfect ending to a really nice meal. Houston Restaurant Weeks has been extended until September 30 due to hurricanes and power outages. It is a way to support local businesses as well as the Houston Food Bank. Parking is validated at the MFAH garage. (Don't go too far and park at Glassell.) Le Jardinier was really a great choice for an elegant dinner with a friend during HRW. read more
