Had gone here for a few quick stitch repairs in the past, which had been done ok, so I asked them to please repair the fraying button holes on one of my favorite flannel shirts. I seriously cannot believe they were confident enough to hand my shirt back to me looking the way it did/does. Not only is the craftsmanship absolutely horrendous, but they didn't even use the same color stitching. I really hope I can find someone to fix their mistake. They also made another repair on a different shirt--done correctly, but also with a different color thread. Waste of time and money. read more

They also give expert advice on how your clothes might fit depending on what's being altered, because we all know that sometimes what we want can end up looking really weird! Charles alterations has done such a great job. I've been taking my clothes there for over a year.

I picked up my Hugo Boss slacks and it's so wrinkled after being dry clean. Also, around the waistline looks like the fabric has been over steamed or something but the fabric looks like it's been pressed so hard or many times that it's thinning. My pants were not like this when I took them in. I'm highly disappointed and will not return. I will call the owner and see what they say. You entrust strangers with your expensive clothes and not expecting it to come back damaged. read more

These are MY LADIES. There are like three of them and they work very hard. I come here so frequently, they treat me like family. Last time I got a jacket dry cleaned, it was only $6. Prices here are a steal- cash only. Usually at other places, they'll charge $20 for as simple hem. Here, it's under $15 (but will vary on what you need). Turn around time is about a week. Parking sucks around the area but it is free. I love how they give me recommendations on how to tailor my clothing so it retains the true style. Also, they'll give me tips so I can save money. The other day, I came in with these two sets of pants and asked to hem since I got short legs. The lady suggested I first wash the pants since they may shrink a little. And if after I wash them they're still at tad bit long, I can bring them in for tailoring. Amazing! read more

This little family owned alteration and dry cleaning establishment is easily located on Adams Ave in Normal Heights. I have been looking for a go-to dry cleaner and I think I have finally found it.. I always dread bringing my blankets and comforters in for dry cleaning.. They're bulky and expensive. Well, I can't fix the bulky part.. But the expensive part I can. After calling Charles alterations and receiving a quote of $42 for dry cleaning 1 blanket and 1 comforter.. I was sold (usually 1 comforter alone is over $30). Being that this place is on Adams Avenue, there is only street parking available. Both on my drop off and pick up days there was 2 hr parking right out front of the store. I indeed was only billed $42 as quoted on the phone. I dropped off my things on Wednesday and they were ready by Saturday. Very easy process and cheaper then anywhere else I have been! Most of my jeans need to be hemmed and tapered for an ultra skinny look, and this place does it well for a very reasonable price. I've also brought in shirts and dresses for repairs with no issues. So I'm on vacation and I bring a shirt with me that I recently had "tailored" at Charles Alteration & Tailoring. Much to my surprise, when I put the shirt on, the pins are still in it from the measuring I did for the tailoring. They didn't tailor a damn thing!!! Yet they charged me for the work. Be warned, inspect and try on every piece of clothing that they supposedly "tailor" before you leave the store. I was very hopeful that this was a good place for tailoring, but now I understand why their prices are so inexpensive. They charge you for work they don't do. read more

Leaves you feeling gross. Seriously, I am miserable. This is not justice. This needs reform or removal. I picked this place because I like this neighborhood and it looks cute, i.e. the street is tree-lined. Inside, the owner, Tu, seems nice and sweet, but then you go to pick up your dry-cleaning, and they tell you that you already picked it up. You assure them that you haven't, that that's why you still have the receipt. Then they say they allow people to pick up clothes without a receipt if they lose it. I say I didn't lose it, it's right here. They say to check home again or ask my friends and family if they picked it up for me. I say there's nothing to check at home, and my friends and family don't even know I bring my clothes here. At this point you start to feel sick. Then they say they'll check again, but they insist you picked up the clothes. Days go by. Then they say to come in and write a letter about what you lost and how much you want for the clothes. I write the amount, and then she says it could take a couple weeks, maybe a month, but if I bring in a receipt for when I purchased the clothes, it might help. What? When I purchased the clothes? That would leave a lot of people out of luck. But luckily, I'm the type of person who keeps receipts for everything. And so I bring them in, and she says thanks me and takes them. Check back in two weeks, she says. I hear nothing for two weeks and then I go in and Tu tells me that she can only pay up to ten times what the bill was for, because the back of the receipt says so. So if you spend $3 to dry clean an article of clothing. And it was a really nice shirt or a sports jacket, say $100 value, she will pay you 30, and you lose $70. I didn't even know there was anything on the back of the receipt, nobody showed me or told me, and I didn't sign or initial anything. She warned me not to waste my time with court. They always win. What?! How often does this happen?! I told her that I also operate a business and sometimes we have to pay out of our pockets to make some customers happy. Sometimes, unfortunate things happen, and we lose in order to make things right. She said no, she would not reimburse me for what my clothes cost, she was sticking with some hidden disclosure. I said, I'm not happy, I really liked you guys, but now I see you don't care about good business. This is awful. She wouldn't accept any responsibility, and so I let her know in a calm but serious voice that I would write a Yelp review, Google review, Foursquare, Better Business Bureau and take her to small claims court, because this isn't a service for the needs of people. This is a self-serving scam. I'm not saying that some people haven't had problem free experiences here. I'm saying I didn't and when that happens, they should make it right. Right? And I am doing the things I said I would. Unjust. Gross. Shut. It. Down. read more

I've also tried alternative shops throughout the years, but always come back here for the quick turnaround times and very reasonable prices. I wanted to like them, but I just can't trust my clothes here. The first time I dropped off a dress to be hemmed and they couldn't find it when I came to pick it up. They ended up finding it, but it was a little unsettling. I wanted to give them another try so I brought a couple dresses for dry cleaning. When I got home after picking them up, I realized one was missing the slip. I called to ask and was told that the slip was definitely with my dress when I picked it up and that it must've fallen in the street or is in my car. There are snaps in the dress to attach the slip just for this purpose and it was attached when I brought it in. I'm happy that my dress is clean, but my previously work appropriate dress is now rather scandalous. read more

I love this place! I've been coming here since 2005. It's a very simple place. The owner is very humble. Her dad works there in the mornings. And I've actually watched her little girl grow. I love small little family owned businesses. I wish they were more of them. Most recently I took a project in there. I had some curtains for my camper which have weird placement At the top and I was a little worried that I wouldn't know how to get them replaced. But I just picked them up yesterday and they look awesome. I knew they were going to be expensive and that's OK because she did an awesome job.
