I used to go to Tailor Love and now they only do bridal alterations and this is the shop they recommend. I had have a botched pair of suit slacks fixed by 3p and the next day and they came through with a rush order and got it done. I very much appreciate that they got it done but it was VERY expensive! $80 to taper a slacks even as a rush seemed excessive but I was in a bind and had no other option. read more

I normally hesitate to bring my higher end items to a tailors shop because of being disappointed in alterations in the past. Simply, that is not the case with Harry & Amra - I brought in a leather/fur vintage jacket which I picked up in Romania needing new buttons and restitching on the sheepskin collar. Harry did an amazing job matching the buttons and thread pattern on the collar. It's been three years since then, nothing has changed. Well done! I needed a gown tailored for a gala in less than two weeks, and not only did the team deliver early, but the dress was tailored to perfection. It's a tiny shop, and good luck with parking because it is a very busy area. Either you will get lucky with a spot on the street out front. If not, there is a tiny lot in the back shared with other tenants here. You may have to circle a few times to get a spot. The space is basic for the excellent service delivered. Thankfully, they have two, albeit teeny-weeny, changing rooms. And it seems that they are popular and keep busy. But this small and mighty team provides excellent attention, service and communication. I would come again. read more

I had a long chiffon dress that needed some length removed from the bottom and the sleeves. It came out at the perfect length and for a reasonable price. I had a good experience the first time I brought a pair of yoga pants to be altered. I had a pleasant interaction with the owner, and paid between $12-15. I decided to go in this morning to drop off a basic cotton dress to have it altered a few inches. When I came in, a man named Harry (?) was sitting at the sewing machine. He did not acknowledge me, even after I said hello several times. He finally looked up, but did not address me with any greeting. I proceeded to tell him that I wanted a few inches off my dress, and he quoted me $30. I was a bit taken aback as I recall having paid no more than $15 last time. When I told him that I recall paying between $12-15 last time, he scoffed at me, threw my dress down, and walked away. He replied in a condescending tone "go somewhere else". I was shocked at how rude he was. I would only come back here if the owner was present. read more

On our last visit in May he insisted on altering my sons pants on the spot, we chatted and walked away about 20 minutes later with 2 pair of altered pants and after having a delightful conversation. Love this place! It's a smaller family owned place I was referred here by a very close friend she has been going to him for years! I came with a cute maxi dress I wanted the bust line adjusted and a slit cut into the side. He had me try it on and marked where he would make the adjustments and explained why he would do them the way he was marking them. He also pointed out that he could hem/pleat the very back of the dress near the waist so that hugged in the right places and fell more flattering way! I brought it a week and a few days before my company xmas party the dress was done with days to spare and was beautiful! Love the way tailored cloths fit! It truly makes such a difference. In business language is not necessary unless you have to go big lengths to explain things. Harry (i think that is his name) does his work well and you pay and then everything is fine. Note: A Regular Customer came in to ask if Harry(?)can further expand the jeans he has. Harry said no...maybe he should try exercising but he didn't say the words, he just demonstrated what the customer should do to fit in back to his pants. I thought it was funny! If I have learned anything from Stacy London and Clinton Kelly it's that investing in a good tailor is always worth it. Well, I've finally found a good one here in San Diego and I couldn't be more thrilled. I came here with a Thakoon blouse, a knit and a new pair of jeans. Being 5'3", I always have to get things hemmed or taken in at a more flattering angle. With the blouse I was a little nervous; it was an expensive purchase and I didn't want it to get messed up. But I shouldn't have fretted dear Yelpers, because this is the best tailor in San Diego. He knew exactly what I needed and provided some delightful side commentary. After fitting everything, he told me my clothes would be done the next day -- I nearly keeled over with shock. All of my other tailors have taken at least five to 10 days with things. As if things couldn't get any better, he only charged $30 for all three things, which is a great deal for these kinds of alterations. I'm glad All American Tailors is in my 'hood because at the rate I buy clothes, I'll be back again before summer hits. read more

Got back suit pants from another tailor that, for the second time, we're not done correctly. The seam on the seat of the pants was sewn in a way that made it look like there was a bunch of extra material. Took them here and was able to get them done right with a quick turnaround for a wedding. Tailor even cut the seam and sewed it back temporarily on the spot so I could try them on to make sure they wouldn't need additional alterations when the seam was fixed. 10/10 would take anything here again. read more

Came here with my bridesmaid dress that 3 different places refused to let out! One lady asked me why I bought such a small dress. Well I actually bought it 3 sizes bigger because I was 8 weeks pregnant when I got it! Anyways here I was 6 months later and the dress didn't fit. The girl at this place had me put it on and just said "Okay, I can make it work." I came back two days later she did some last minute adjustments I came back the next day and it zipped and fit perfectly! Total cost was $40 which is nice because I thought for sure it was going to be more. And she did a great job and in such a short window of time. And she remembered my name when I walked in! Don't bother with this place. They are outdated on their practices. They don't listen to what you want but instead argue with you about how your body is the problem. Insanely rude man that wouldn't shut up long enough to listen. I didn't blame him when his tailoring caused my shirt to no longer be wearable. I simply asked him if I paid more could they fix it. He once again went into saying nothing is wrong. Very disappointed. Don't trust these people with your wedding clothes Update: I drove over to Charles Alterations on Adams ave and within less than a minute a women showed me how the lazy tailor job led to me not being able to lift my arms. I've been loyally coming here for the past three years to get my suits for work altered or dry cleaned. However, I write this review after putting up with the owner's attitude TWICE. I let him slide for the first transgression chalking it up to a bad day but now it seems like it's a PERSONAL problem and he just hates the world or something. I called today asking if considering the time restraints he could take my suit for dry cleaning and have it done by Wednesday night at the latest. Honestly, fine if he could but fine if he couldn't NBD. What really irked me was when I clarified if he meant Tuesday or Thursday night because that makes a huge difference in my decision. This guy had the audacity to start yelling at me saying he said "tuesday/thursday" (interestingly, his increased volume still didn't clear up the confusion). Owner dude, I'm sure you're making bank but that's no excuse to be rude to someone that was merely asking for you to clarify something ONCE (god forbid). EDIT: I forgot to mention that the hemming they did fell apart while I was in court. Excuse me your honor it seems like my pants fell apart. JFC. read more

I had an emergency tailor situation and Harry and his wife came to save the day. I called his shop in the morning of my best friend's wedding. We needed to bring in one suit (blazer and pants) as well as let out another (blazer and pants). This needes to be done the same day within 3 hours to make it in time for photos and not hold up the festivities. We rushed to the store as soon as it opened (9:30am) and tried on the suits for Harry. He marked them up and promised to get them turned around by noon. I got a call back from him at 11:40am saying they were ready. They fit amazingly. I couldnt be happier with the work done. This is kind of an off-the-cuff (intentional pun) review because I didn't really have that much interaction with Harry, but my first impression walking into the tiny "All American Tailors" reminded me of that scene in Spider Man 2 with the Eastern European family cuz Harry, and who I'm assuming was his daughter was that family in the movie!
