I loved this place in college with the delicious palak paneer pizza, and now that they have shahi paneer/paneer tikka masala pizza, it's gone to the next level! I got some of the pizza for takeout recently, and it was delicious! It's indulgent, and very heavy, but who can say no to Indian food on pizza? I would highly recommend! They have Channa masala pizza as well for vegetarians, and I've heard amazing butter chicken pizza! It's not too hard to park around the area to quickly grab food. I am an Indian foodie who loves authentic Indian food and most kinds of pizza, but this place could have gone either way. The food has been great for me every single time. Things I have ordered and loved: shahi paneer pizza, chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka pizza, and mango lassi. It's definitely not haute cuisine, but an incredible late-night option (that is much better than food trucks, or any other late night pizza place). This is one of the few late night places available to order pizza from, and the only late-night place to order Indian food from. I initially refrained from ordering for because of the price, but the quality and portion sizes have made it well worth it. It's officially my go-to for pizza in Baltimore. This place has been very unpredictable for me, which averages out to 3 stars. I will start by saying that I have only had the Indian pizza here. The first time I tried their pizza was at a student group interest meeting at the Hopkins medical campus. They catered a variety of their Indian cuisine-inspired pizzas, and I was absolutely mind blown. The combination of rich, bold Indian food + pizza (I mean, who doesn't like pizza) made for a delicious and quite novel meal. I raved about this place to my boyfriend so one weekend we decided to order in a pie for ourselves. We opted for the Chicken Tikka Masala. For some reason, they were a lot less generous with the sauce (i.e. the curry) and overall the chicken was dry and the cheese too thick. After this incident, there were other times when the school of medicine ordered Indian pizza from here for various events, and each time I had it on campus, I was largely impressed. I decided that the one disappointing order was a fluke. However, I recently ordered a pie with my friend, and the food was mediocre once again. To make matters worse, the food took over an hour to arrive. The delivery person was very apologetic - they apparently had issues with their oven - but they could have at least warned me in advance! I got so hungry that I actually ended up eating a meal before the pizza arrived. In addition, the pizza was lukewarm at best, and more importantly, was disappointing and did not meet expectations. Not quite sure how to explain this trend - maybe they put more care into the large orders since there's a business relationship to maintain and it's a much bigger order, but regardless, I've had rather mediocre experiences when I ordered from this place myself. 1.5-2 stars for my own ordering experiences, 4-4.5 stars when I had it at school... 3 star average. read more

The absolute worst business I've ever encountered. I ordered a pizza through the slice app at exactly 8:00 PM. The app told me the pizza ETA was 8:35-8:48. When 9:00 rolled around, I called the store for an update. The guy who answered the phone was extremely rude and told me that their delivery guy attempted to deliver my pizza a while ago but couldn't get in contact with me. I then realized I had the wrong contact number saved into the app, so that was 100% my fault and I did own up to that. HOWEVER, that does not warrant the rudeness I received and the delivery guy could've easily given the pizza to the concierge at my apartment and there would've been no issues. The guy then said that he would redeliver within 10 minutes which was totally fine with me. Then 40 minutes goes by... nothing. My boyfriend called back to cancel the order and he encountered the same rude guy, who told him there was nothing that he could do and if he wanted a refund, he'd have to contact the slice app. So I did exactly that. I called Slice's customer service and asked them to cancel the order and for a refund. They said that they needed to speak with the restaurant first. So Slice called the restaurant and guess what? Charles REFUSED to give me a refund. Even though 5 minutes prior, they told me to call Slice to get a refund??? The Slice employee told me that he spoke to several people and tried to convince them, however,​ none of them agreed and they said they would eventually deliver my pizza and it would be "hot and fresh". There was nothing I could do at this point because apparently,​ Slice needs permission from the restaurant to issue a refund. Then 2 freaking hours go by and still nothing. At around 10:15 I get a call and low and behold, it's the delivery guy. At this point,​ I was fed up but still starving, so instead of furthering this chaos, I took the pizza. Guess what? It was COLD, not warm, COLD. It tasted as if it had been sitting out for two hours. Charles clearly does not value or care about their customers. They straight up lied to me several times and not one employee I encountered was even remotely kind or apologetic. I will never eat here again. read more

It's always a treat and if never disappoints. The crust is like any carry out spot but the Indian Italian fusion is the best and trumps any critiques I would bring regarding the crust. This place has really delicious Indian food and pizzas-- I can't speak to the other menu items, but I'm definitely a fan of what I've ordered before. I enjoy the chicken tikka masala, the tikka masala pizza (ask for extra sauce!) and the malai kofta. The naan with the platters isn't as fluffy as I would like, but the 2 dinner combo comes with an abundance of food. I've only ever gone for pickup, and the people are friendly. As a night shift worker, this place is invaluable for its late hours, reliable and punctual delivery, and really good Indian food. They use real spices and there's real flair and deliciousness. I've tried a bunch of their dishes and I've loved every single one. Also, do not sleep on the Indian food-inspired pizzas, they're absolutely delicious. Visited a friend in Baltimore for the first time this weekend, and was greeted at the door with two questions. 1. "Are you guys hungry?" ummmmm DUH 2. Holy hell, what a delicious combo. Cheesy, salty, a lil bit spicy and a lil bit sweet. Also, garlic sauce. Totally makes up for the fact that it's a total shadeball of an establishment. Also, it was 2pm, and the "secret bar" here doesn't technically open til 6, but the dude offered us some Natty Bo's and just let us chill back there in the dark. Weird paintings and christmas lights adorn the (not so clean) walls. My boyfriend and I were so impressed with this pizza that we mistakenly ordered it at another, even SHADIER Baltimore establishment the very next day before heading back to Philly. The food is OK (if you're into takeout). The only reason my husband I order from here is because they have chicken tenders. A little over priced for what you're getting, but what do you expect? It's Baltimore. And when they do deliver (or maybe I should say IF they deliver), there's a significant chance that the person will be rude and will most likely call you to come to their car and get it because they're too damn lazy to get out of their car and walk to the door. By the way, here's a hint--if I wanted to go outside, I'd just go all the way to the grocery store and make myself something. But this most recent order is the last straw. I ordered food 2 hours ago and it's still not here. No phone call to tell me they're backed up, or that it'll be another 15, just total silence. My husband and I worked out "too hard" (if there is such a thing) last evening, and needed to replenish a LOT of calories in a hurry, so we decided to order take-out for dinner. We wanted something a little different from the usual boring choices, so we looked for options and found Charles Restaurant. They seemed to have a pretty decent menu, and I was sort of in the mood for Indian while SHM was in the mood for pizza, etc. I think you know where this is going. SHM ordered a "meat lover's pizza", while I ordered a chicken biryani dish. Not exactly in agreement, are we? The time that it took to deliver the food was entirely too long - they were nearly an hour late when they did show up, and although the food was still reasonably hot, that's not soothing balm when you're starving hungry, now is it? Still, we were relatively pleased when we opened the bag/box - the food WAS plentiful, I will say that, almost too much so. Let's put it this way - I still have nearly half of a plate of biryani left, and it's not for the lack of trying! I can't speak to the pizza (SHM was considerably less enthusiastic about his food, though he said he wouldn't mind trying again), but my chicken biryani was pretty good - I would have preferred more fruit in it, but eh. I quickly dubbed it the "bottomless biryani", because it WAS - every time I thought I'd hit the bottom of the plate, I was cruelly disappointed! More food, more food, more more more... wow. And spicy? Wow, you'd best believe it was. My mouth was actually burning, quite pleasantly I might add. I actually had to stop eating it because there was so much in there that I was worried about a carb spike. The yogurt that came with it was a little suspect, though. I didn't feel too safe eating it, as it was sort of curdled in odd spots, so I just threw that away. Shame, because I could have used it to kill the burn. Damn! In the end, I would definitely try this place again - as stated, SHM was a bit more hesitant (though when I pressed him for a reason why, he couldn't articulate it for the life of him), but would try it again, maybe with a different item. Charles is yet another completely bizzare Baltimorean establishment that is primarily supposed to be a pizza place, but has a full Indian menu available as well. And it's not Charles Restaurant; amusingly, the place is just called "Charles". Roomie and I order from here fairly frequently; we always get take out. I'm not sure you're really supposed to eat in here (even though I guess you technically could), since it's really not the most appealing looking establishment. Pizza is above average. It's slightly better than Papa John's, similar in style but the crust is a little crispier and the sauce/cheese is a little tastier. Sauce is mainly seasoned with black pepper. Cheese is fairly simple, but it's not the tasteless morass that you usually get on chain take-out pizzas, at least. The Indian food is really simple, but that's kind of what is appealing about it to us. It's basically like fast-food Indian. It's the same every time you order it, the portions are extremely ample...no punches are pulled. Super convenient for anyone living in Charles Village, and extremely reliable. read more

It is Super Bowl Sunday and I ordered 10 wings and fries and a coke at 5:50. I was told that the expected wait time was less than an hour. It is now 8:50 (three hours later) and the food has not arrived. I have called them 4 times and each time they tell me that it will be "5 minutes." The most absurd thing happened when I called the last time and spoke to the manager. I asked him how he was going to make this right by me, and he told me to talk to the driver when he arrived. When I asked him what that meant, he told me that the driver would make sure that I was satisfied when he arrived. When I asked him what that meant, as in would he offer me a discount, he just said that, " You two will work it out." He also told me that the driver had 7 other orders that he was delivering and that is why he was running behind. They have a 2 mile delivery radius. HUH??? They are consistently good. they are an indian place, a steak shop and everything in between and their eat 24 combo specials/discounts are good deals. Hubby likes the chicken tika marsala pizza, their healthier choice chicken salad and I love the lamb biryani, cheesesteak and gravy fries. They always come on time and one time they came within 15 mins. The driver always calls when he's outside to let us know to come out and get our order. Because of this when the driver gave us the wrong order once, we called his cell and he then came back within 10 mins to give us the right one. Good delivery guys are an asset to any business. The actual place is a little weird. There's not really anywhere to sit, and there's a super divey bar in the corner. We sat at the bar and waited for our food. The poor bartender, Andi, was so sweet and so bored. There were 3 guys at the end of the bar drinking natty boh and having fun, and we didn't really feel like drinking. The booze selection is minimal, and they have your standard dive beers. Nothing fancy, but really a great little bar. Anyway, the pizza. SO GOOD. Seriously. So so so so good. And the Mango Lassi was top notch. Just the right amount of tartness, not too sweet, and a hefty portion. I will FOR SURE be back. If you ever plan on feeling amorous at any time, for the rest of your entire life, I suggest ordering elsewhere. Let me preface this entry by telling you that I am a huge fan of garlic. I cannot think of a dish aside from dessert that I would cook without it. A friend and I ordered from this place randomly on a Friday night after admittedly being too lazy to physically go out for dinner. We scrolled through Grubhub or one of those apps to find a "new place" to feed us. It had really good reviews from what we saw, so we pulled the trigger and ordered chicken tikka masala, mozzarella sticks, and a cold cut sub (one of us had a hangover so the sandwich was required). We received the order promptly. The food came quickly and it was still hot! However, someone decided to punk us by putting an obscene amount of garlic on every single item we had ordered. We could not even finish this food because of the amount of garlic that was put on it. The garlic was so heavy that it actually ruined my appetite for the rest of my life. I will never eat again. Both of us aggressively brushed our teeth immediately after the first bite to no avail. We woke up the following morning and the taste of garlic was still lingering in our faces. Needless to say, we were forced to put on "real pants" and spend even more money by going out to eat at an establishment in which we feigned a garlic allergy just to avoid ever having to taste the spice/ingredient that we once loved. At the end of the day, we threw away about $30+ worth of food- which is completely ridiculous, and I was forced to put my pants back on, which is unacceptable after a long day in the office in which all I wanted to do is wear my shitty yoga pants and gorge myself on decent takeout in the comfort of my own home.
