From residential address to HNL airport: the driver gave me a call 5 minutes before the reservation time and arrived on time. The driver was punctual and ran the meter. 5 star! From the airport to a residential address: I did not get an confirmation email like I did with my previous ride. So I called Charley's from the airport. The operator gave me good instructions on where to wait. (The pick up is in the parking structure. Find pillar 30 and walk across to the parking structure. Wait at parking area J.) The taxi came relatively quickly despite the fact I made a call from the airport. Good so far... However, the driver told me that the meter is not working and asked me if I'm a resident. I said yes. Then he asked me how much I paid for my previous ride and said he will match that. And he tells me he prefers cash. Hmmm... 0 star! If you are a visitor and do not know the standard fare (compare to Uber/Lyft or other taxi/limo/shuttle companies) and have been asked to pay more than you should, please report the incident to Hawaii State Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Check flat rates from the airport and Waikiki before you get here and remember the driver's name/ license plate number. read more

We just went from Waikiki to Bishop Museum with Charley's taxi and the metered rate was $37 + tip. We did the same trip back with Uber and it was $15 -- less than half the price for the same trip. When I called the company to complain they basically said "too bad"! Their drivers are nice guys but not worth the markup! Needless to say, we will not be using Charley's Taxi again and my advice is to compare their price before using. read more

The good part: Pick up from the airport is faster and cheaper than Uber. The bad part: Reservation is confusing. You get a very long email after reservation, which you need to read carefully. And if you are leaving from Waikiki hotels to airport, they don't dispatch a taxi for you. Just hail one at the hotel lobby. read more

I did some research about how to get from the Honolulu airport to the Aulani resort. I found a few shuttle services which ran about $95 one way, but their reviews were really bad. After more searching I found Charley's Taxi. Their website stated they do flat rate trips if you call ahead when your plane lands. That's exactly what I did. They took my info and said call when we had our bags. We got our bags, called back and they directed us where to go to get picked up. The taxi was there waiting! $55 for a ride to the Aulani for 4 people! I called the day before we needed a ride back and asked for them to pick us up at 5am. The taxi arrived right at 5. Man. We all know cab drivers are usually shady and try to nickel and dime whenever they can. Last time we took a cab from hickam to the blaisdell, this guy went so damn out of the way that this time I wasn't going to let them pull that nonsense. Tonight we had the misfortune of getting picked up by Mohammad. He passes our house and honks down the road, whatever, no biggie, he showed up on time, that was my biggest concern. What i didn't think would be a concern, however, is thinking just because you're picking us up on hickam, you can take advantage of us. Yes, I'm white, bet Mohammad wasn't expecting me to be an undercover local girl. I noticed he was taking us off h1 and taking the long route, I suggested he stay on h1 and take the Pali exit, he tells me "but I want to stay on Nimitz." Ok, I'm sure you do, but I know for a fact the other way is faster. He tells me there no exit for ward ave, I tell him I know and he can take Pali or kinau. "Oh oh okay, you really know your way around" guess he was surprised to learn I'm from Makiki. So he stays on h1. Gets us to to the blaisdell and asks if it's the flat rate price, how the hell are we supposed to know? He said "I think it's supposed to be the flat rate $39" I ask if he's saying that because our fare is $36. He fricken calls it in to double check, guess what? It was meter rate ($36) and the dispatch reminded him we get 10% discount for being military. He refused to even figure out what the discount was, when I calculated it and told him he was so rude about it. He basically whined because we were using card, then because I knew where the heck I was going, then because we got a discount. Charley's current saving grace is the guy we're currently riding with, unfortunately he doesn't have a huge thing posted like Mohammad did, so I'm not positive what his name is. I used Charley's Taxi on Friday Dec 1st from the airport to Hosoi mortuary (Downtown Honolulu). The reason I chose Charley's is they had a flat rate of 20.00 for that area. To be honest I did check other taxi and uber rates ( no flat rates). The dispatchers were very helpful and friendly. When I got to the baggage claim and called, she assured me that there was a taxi on the way for me and where to wait. I got really lucky, because I had the nicest driver and he also assured me that it was 20.00flat rate. I tipped 5.00. Since it was a Friday rush hour 5-6pm it took appx 20 mins instead of the usual 10mins. I would have had to pay 45.00 if I had gone with the other cab companies. Charley's also has flat rates to Waikiki and surrounding areas. Call and ask if there are any flat rates for where u are going. read more

we took another taxi/shuttle service from the airport to our hotel. several locals kept saying to take Charlie taxi because of the flat rate and service. I called to confirm the flat $29 rate to the airport in the morning and the dispatcher said we only need to call 5 mins before we need to head out. i called at 1pm and the taxi came on time... nice guy.. but the trip was $45 not the $29. we did not have time to discuss with the driver the flat rate because we had a plane to catch. At least the shuttle service/taxi we took to from the airport to our hotel did truly charge us the rate they quoted unlike Charlie's Taxi. read more

Absolutely the worst service. My husband booked a reservation in advance for a 1:30 PM ride to the airport. No car showed up, so he called them at 1:45. The dispatch guy said there are no cars in the area, but will route one to us in about 15-20 minutes. When that time approached the dispatcher called again and said they have no cars in the area. Let me tell you the story of why this is the one and only way for our family to get around the island. We have been traveling to Oahu for more than nineteen years. Raised two kids and even traveled there with extended family and friends. This last trip, my daughter left her favorite baseball cap in the back seat of a Charley's taxi van. When she realized it, we were in line at security. The look on her face was beyond sad. For some reason, I took a snapshot of the driver's certificate. I had planned to thank him by calling the head office. His name was Mr. Dang. An honest, decent gentleman. I thought it would be a good experience for my daughter to make the call herself. She called and spoke to a dispatcher named Chad. Then to a supervisor named Eugene. And you know what they did? They called Mr. Dang who pulled over and found my daughter's cap. He dropped it off at the main office. We heard that they would send it by mail to our home in the next few days. And that is where the story gets really special. I suggested that my daughter contact the supervisor and ask who we could thank in writing. Eugene gave us the name of the owner. When we returned to Los Angeles, my daughter wrote the owner a thank you note. The owner proceeded to correspond with our family several times. What can you say about that level of customer service except that it reaches for perfection. These folks care about their customers so much. They are nice. Honest. Decent. flat rate of $33 + tax + tip from Hilton Hawaiian Village to airport. wish we knew about them upon arrival at the airport. our hotel contracts them so they line up at the hotel and there was not much of a wait. they run the meter but turn it off when it hits $33. our driver was quiet, but pleasant and very quick to get us to our destination. do your research and make sure not to go with a company that charges hidden fees like $5 per luggage fee etc and doesn't even explain why! read more

This is the way to travel from the airport to waikiki. I called when we were getting our luggage and was directed where to go to be picked up....not far at all and we walk outside and a very friendly driver calls our name and walks over to help with luggage! The trip to the hotel was pleasant and he pointed out things along the drive (food, the beach, stores, the convention center) upon arrival he helped us unload right to the door the return trip was equally pleasant. his name was Rogie...very helpful loading luggage and showed us other things including the hospital where pres. Obama was born...at the airport he helped us unload.... super efficient..air conditioned nice minivan...helpful and friendly....and only 29.00 flat rate (yes we tipped of course on top of that ) but such a deal for good service! After researching all options here are the reasons why I chose Charley's Taxi before departing for our 7-day vacation: 1. They have a booking app. Its easy to use and estimates the fare pretty accurately. It also allows you to track your taxi, sends you update notifications, and gives you the taxi number. 2. The price to and from my Waikiki hotel to various destinations was affordable. So my family of 8 arrives in Waikiki and first night we need a taxi to the Diamond Head Luau. Ordered through the app and the taxi arrives within minutes. However, half the family can't seem to understand the concept of being ready to leave. The taxi waited 10 min for the stragglers to arrive in the lobby. By this time I'm upset imagining the rate increasing every minute. The Taxi driver remained patient and chatted with my father for a bit. WELL we all finally get in the Taxi and to my surprise that was when the driver started the clock! Now I'm impressed by the ethics of this man. We get there in record time, the price in the app was spot on accurate, we tip him, and now everyone is happy. Lesson - Only order the taxi after everyone is standing in the lobby/designated pick-up spot. Well I ordered a taxi 7 more times during our trip and got 6 different drivers. Everyone was very professional, fairly friendly, courteous, and helpful. A few where really chatty and shared with us knowledge about the island and places to visit. At some point we decided to hike Diamond Head. When the taxi driver dropped us off he mentioned that it may be difficult to get a taxi back through them because it would be very busy around 11:00 am because of check-out and airport transfer and such. He suggested we use one of the cab company's that remain parked next to the bus drop-off. He also said only choose a cab whose rate was about $15-$17 because anything more was excessive for a trip back our hotel. Sooo after walking down the cab line and 3 cab company's later we chose the one who quoted us $15 and charged us $15.25. Needless to say I had a very positive experience with the company so far and will continue to use them and recommend them in the future. read more

Recommended by our Hilton resort. So I downloaded the app and was ready to book upon arrival. Get to Honolulu airport, app does not work and I had to arrange other transport. The next day there is an apology on the app. This time app works, but driver ended up taking us a long way to our destination, costing at least ten bucks extra. Learned this after mapping the distance once we were out of the vehicle. Confirmed it the next day by taking Lyft for about 40 percent of the Charley's cost. Thought about two stars, but Charley's was on time and clean, which you don't always get around the US. read more

Just had the worst experience with this company. First my grandfather was a cab driver for 30 years. I know what they go through & this was unacceptable. A nice elderly man asked us to call for a cab. He is handicapped and a retired Little League umpire & veteran & well known in the community. They quoted us 30-35 minutes. We gave them the number to the store & kept an ear out for the phone. No one came. When we called at the ETA time they said they called but wouldn't give us the number they tried to call. Also they were unable to give us a new pick up time AND they asked for pre payment. NO ONE called the store. At. All. The poor man was stranded at 1:30am. He had money to pay for the fare.
