Saw Mission mentioned on a YouTube video, that listed the five best and five worst barbecue chains in the country.. Mission was #5 on the five best list. So we decided to try it out, did an online order for takeout. I had the brisket and pulled pork. Both were amazing. My sides was Maggie's Mac n Cheese. It's was sooo good. My roommate got the salmon, pulled pork and the Mac n cheese. She said it was very tasty. Both of tried the peach cobbler, and both agreed it's the best we've had. The woman that got my order together was very nice and informative. Do not remember her name. But the initials GD were on the first time card she gave us.. We will definitely be back. also love the fact they support the armed forces and first responders. Decided to try this place because our favorite bbq spot ran out of brisket. Pulled in the empty parking lot. Not a good sign although it was early 4:30, on a Saturday. Had a good score (4.7) so we decided to give it a shot Nice place inside. Decorated with veterans in mind. Has a similar setup to Rudy's where you order/pay up front and they call you up when it's ready. Was kind of worried because the place didn't smell like bbq. Ordered the turkey and jalapeno sausage with a side of bbq beans. Has a selection of six different bbq sauces at the table. I wasn't too impressed with any of them. There is a mustard sauce up by the drinks that was pretty tasty tho. The turkey was dry. The sausage had decent spices but the skin was a little tough. Neither had a bbq/smoky taste. The beans tasted like canned pork and beans with sugar and bits of brisket added. All and all I wasn't too impressed and probably won't be back. When you first walk in you instantly smell the bbq! The restaurant was nice and clean. I like the photos and decor on the wall. I was greeted by a super friendly cashier, I placed a to go order and my food came out pretty quick. Customer service was 10/10 The food was great, the peach cobbler was sweet. I love that they have the sauces on the table so you can go as light as you want or drench that meat lol. I had the brisket moist and it was good. My son and god daughter had the pulled chicken and said it was dry they dont care for BBQ sauce but like the juicy smoked meat. The bread pudding was good and they had plain brownies at the registers. Staff was super nice. Lots of seating and they are military supporters but dont give military discounts but the person at the register shook my friends hand and thanked her for her service. We thought that was nice but a discount would have been nicer. Plenty of shopping nearby. Prices were not great. Higher a la cart so a meal ends up being $20-$25 a person. read more

This place has been my favorite place to eat since visiting AZ. Who doesn't like BBQ? It has a wide selection of food soft drinks and sides. Service was excellent and the ambiance inside is great. They have football on all the walls from navy football to firefighters and police men and women. The food was very tasty they give complementary small drinks to all children. As my last review , the girl was very unhelpful and ruined the experience , but my husband picked up our food & they were so nice he told me to update my review. I do love how good the service is ( minus last time ) but normally it is super good. I understand one employee shouldn't determine the whole places review . I think it's a little pricey but honestly , when the service is good and the people are SO NICE it makes me not as upset to spend money!!! And glad they actually support veterans . I do think portions either bigger or priced a little bit lower bc it really adds up fast. I mean then again I am just not rich.... if I was I wouldn't mind lol. read more

Service was friendly and responsive. They explained how things worked for us. I got pulled pork and potato salad. The plate comes with corn bread. I tried several sauces but the Smokey mountain was my favorite. Potato salad was excellent. They gave me a generous portion of pork I even took some home. My husband had pulled pork and classic sausage and baked beans. He said it was all excellent! His favorite sauce was the honey hot. Worth a try if you're craving BBQ. Visited this place for the first time for lunch today. Conveniently located right on Cactus in Paradise Valley on the cusp of Scottsdale. Super clean entryway. Tons of ample parking. Tables and chairs were clean. Plenty of seating for you, your family and your closest friends. Walk in. Place your order. Fill your drink. Find a seat. Pop a squat. And chow down. I went with the brisket sandwich. You can order it lean - with all the fun, fat and flavor cut right off. Or you can order it moist - full of fun, fat and flavor. I opted for fun. The bun was fresh. The brisket was flavorful, tender and each bite made me full of glee. I opted for fries as my side They were a wee bit on the salty side for me but still full of flavor and nice 'n hot! Pricing was reasonable for what you get. Their claim to fame is there's no microwave nor freezer which would indicate everything is made fresh to order. Not quite sure how they're pulling that off with a smoked meat menu, but I'm not here to challenge their business model - just informing you of what they informed me. Mission BBQ New restaurant that opened up at the old Paradise Valley Mall along Cactus Rd. Wanted to see what Mission BBQ has to offer in BBQ. We ordered the Moist Brisket which seemed more like Lean Brisket, wanted that taste of a little bit more fat infused juicy brisket. Brisket was just a bit dry for Moist Brisket, added bbq sauce to help a little Sausage is always a favorite of mine so if you have good sausage, generally it comes from bits of your brisket, ribs or other meats to combine a good flavorful link. Their sausage was good to okay. Smoked Hawaiian Ribeye sounded like a winner but was on the dry side and a little tough. Baby back ribs were good, probably the best entree that we had tender and flavorful. Cornbread is another favorite of mind with BBQ and was delicious. Tried out this new BBQ spot in Paradise Valley with high hopes, but unfortunately it missed the mark. I ordered the sampler to get a feel for everything, and every meat on the plate was dry and served cold -- brisket, chicken, pulled pork, all of it. Not what you expect (or want) from fresh BBQ. On the upside, the sides were decent and came out hot, which was at least something. But when you go to a BBQ joint, the meat should be the star -- and here, it just wasn't. If you're looking for a spot with a similar vibe but much better execution, I'd recommend checking out The Thumb instead. Better flavor, better quality, and you actually leave satisfied. Here's hoping this place can work out the kinks, but as it stands, I won't be rushing back. read more

My husband wanted to get takeout bbq for dinner on a Friday. I had been to Mission BBQ when I lived in Ohio and always wanted to try it again as I remembered really enjoying it. It had been months since I drove past this PV location and told my husband I wanted us to go. So I suggested it when he referenced a BBQ takeout meal. We placed our order, I drove over (12 min drive) and walked through the to-go door. They immediately had the order ready. The host showed me each item, even opening up each to-go box to let me see that the order was correct. I've never seen that level of service before! He asked me which sauces I wanted and I asked for a variety. I told him I like sweet and tangy and he gave me a Texas one that I ended up loving. Great experience topped off by my husband also thoroughly enjoying his meal. He can be picky with BBQ since he's from the KC area and his dad used to own a BBQ restaurant. Top 3 bbq spot I've been to ever! I recommend getting the 3 meat sampler. I got brisket moist, jalapeño cheddar sausage, pulled pork, and for sides baked beans and Mac and cheese. What made this place super special was the hospitality we received. It was our first time at the restaurant and they gave a perfect run down on everything. I will say the moist brisket I got was a little dry, but later into the meal we got free sandwich vouchers for being our first time. The next day we came back and the brisket was perfect. The Salmon at $17.49 was a little too dry and didn't have much of a spice rub on it. It also was not moist as indicated. The Sausage was so-so but much better than many other places like Foley and Boo. The coleslaw was the best but if they can add some crunch to it like salted peanuts, it would be a winner. Visited Mission with several coworkers and they were all shocked when I ordered the smoked burger. It's definitely out of character for me but for some reason that day, it wasn't pulled pork, brisket or ribs calling my name, it was a house smoked cheeseburger, and let me tell you I was highly satisfied. Excellent smoky flavor to that burger. They also offer several different house made sauces to complement your protein (or side, I don't judge). I tried them all and have a few favorites for sure. This is my first time at Mission BBQ. Their decor is cute and what you would expect from a BBQ establishment. I asked for staff recommendations and they were very helpful. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and I ordered the bacon green beans.I took a couple samples of their sauces. The food was good. For the last few months, I have seen signs up for the new Mission BBQ near Tatum and Cactus. On Thursday night, the construction seemed to be over, a smoker was in front of the restaurant, and something was going on. I stopped by Mission BBQ and was greeted by Mission BBQ's George (visiting from Las Vegas), who informed me that there was a soft opening to recognize law enforcement that evening and that I should stop by the next night for a Military Appreciation Night benefiting the Global War on Terrorism/Memorial Foundation. The first 100 people to arrive and purchase an American Heroes Cup (purchase for $4.99 and includes $0.99 refills) will get "Free BBQ for a Year"! George also gave me coupons to come back on Tuesday's Grand Opening for free sandwiches. The ribbon-cutting will be on Tuesday, March 18 at 12 noon. This will be the first Mission BBQ in Arizona though there are MANY locations in 22 states currently. They opened on September 11, 2011...exactly 10 years after all Americans' lives changed in 9/11. They strive to recognize American heroes, and they have found many ways to do that through Mission BBQ. They have assisted in raising over $20 million to many charities and organizations across the country, and giving back is a big part of what they are about. It just so happens that they also serve delicious food at the same time. They are so excited to be a part of the Arizona community, and they told me about the upcoming ribbon cutting and grand opening. It's here!! We've been anxiously awaiting for Mission BBQ to open and tonight was the night! We braved the chilly weather in line to be in the first 100 for free bbq for a year (woohoo). Service was phenomenal- serving us little bites outside (also making it harder to decide what to order), keeping morale up and getting us ready for some amazing bbq. Inside is beautiful- they did a great job honoring our military inside and it was pretty incredible to see the table set for the MIA/POW. Can't wait to eat bbq all year! Hooah! read more

Came in for a quick dinner on a Monday night and ordered the brisket with coleslaw which also came with cornbread and a drink. The food came out very quickly and there were a lot of sauces to choose from ranging between sweet to hot. You can't tell by the picture (taken in 0.5) but the portion sizes were large and very filling. I had plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow! There is work to be done here. Service: As with many openings, the place is overstaffed to address the initial training of staff and over cater to customers. So on service, they are crushing it. Having been to other locations nationwide, I expect the service will continue to be top notch. Food: This is where it all falls apart. I am hoping they overcome first month trials and errors. We had 4 proteins ordered: - Pulled pork was decent, but dry - Spicy sausage was very good - Turkey, dry to the point that it was not very edible. Eating it without sauce was impossible. - Pulled Chicken, again like the turkey was way too dry. Sides seemed to have fared better with fries cooked perfectly, although the portion was on the small side. Cheesy potatoes were excellent. Corn bread, was you my have guessed it: dry. Overall: will give them another shot in about a month, when I hope the standards are set. Mission is a solid chain, WAY better than Dickeys and better than City BBQ as well. Only drawback is they offer 6 sauces, none of which are very good. I end up settling on Texas Twang, but this is a problem for the chain. read more

Not bad just not great for BBQ. Meat is expensive so it is important to hit all marks; tenderness, flavor, portion size, quality of ingredients. No real standouts in any of these areas. We will stick with our tried and true Sunnyslope option. read more
