My mother's relatively new Buick under extended warranty from GMC was towed here when it was having issues starting. The warranty company requires it go to a licensed GMC/Buick dealer and this is closer than towing to Roanoke so, this was the place. My mom didn't read any reviews (of which there are loads of bad ones and BBB complaints against this dealership/service department). My mother was assured this should be under warranty and within a day they told her it was a bad fuel injector after they ran tests/diagnostics. She was at my house visiting during this phone call and asked if they should replace the other two as well. Her service tech said no, warranty wouldn't cover it usually and only one was bad. So, done. Warranty agreed to pay for this. A few days later (after weekend) - she gets a call with "bad news" from them. They test drove it and it was still having issues... so they were going to tear it back down and ensure they didn't "do something wrong". No mention of costs, labor charges, etc. They call back and tell her a second fuel injector has now failed and would need to be replaced. They would contact warranty company. Ok. Now, the warranty company does agree not only to replace another injector, but also the third one too. Just in case. Counter to the initial information my mom was given. Seems they didn't ask the warranty company up front who very well may have agreed to replace them to save duplicate labor costs - which is exactly where we ended up. They also never gave her a quote for the cost before doing any of this, bc they planned to fleece the warranty company. So, my mom didn't get the luxury of saying, no before they had her car taken fully apart and told her she owed $1300 in labor. That came AFTER that had already happened. So the sequence was out of order here. Here is the main problem: their position is that this was a completely new issue and that this fuel injector failed ONLY when they tore it back down. Not that it was also bad when they initially only replaced the one the first time and billed her warranty for $1600 in labor. Sounds fishy to me considering when they tested it after the fix, it didn't work. So they did not in fact, fix the issue and they are in fact, at fault for missing it. The math ain't mathing. So, they planned to make labor fees off the warranty company for replacing a fuel injector - then charged my mom FOR THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN, saying this was a new issue and it wasn't bad when they first tested it. She never started the car, sat in it, or drove it after dropping it off there to be worked on. How can any reasonable person believe, that this second fuel injector just happened to go wrong at the exact moment the replaced the first one and was perfectly fine and my mom needs to pay them another $1600 in labor, not that they missed it? Additionally, wouldn't any reputable service department at least consider that and not charge her FULL price for something that is most likely their mistake? Yeah, not this place. They were rude and dismissive to her when she became upset over this. I called and had a more nuanced conversation with Ben where he admitted "probably" the fuel injector was already broken but since it didn't "throw a code" they didn't know for sure, but yes, it was likely but wasn't their fault. My mom spoke to the service manager, Cliff, who appeared dismissive on the phone and essentially told her unless she paid it she'd never get her car back and refused to do anything about reducing the labor charges. I have to say - I am extremely unimpressed and my mom, who doesn't make a ton of money, is really upset about these charges. They are saying this is a warranty issue and blaming the company - I see it more as them trying to bulk up their fees by double-charging for an issue they failed to find on the first go-round and should've eaten. No reasonable person would think they didn't miss this issue - at the very least they should've taken half the cost off and not charged my mother $1600 for labor and also the warranty company for replacing the exact same part (fuel injectors) on her car within days when she never even picked it up and drove it off the lot the first time. The warranty company denied a double-charge, just like medical insurance does when a doctor double-bills you. Shameful. I wouldn't bring a vehicle here if I had any other option on Earth. I gave this location more than one chance, and unfortunately had issues after each visit. A previous oil change resulted in a loose oil plug, and my most recent visit for routine service led to new HVAC problems immediately after leaving. I understand mistakes can happen, but repeated issues and poor communication made it hard to trust the quality of work. Multiple failed attempts to resolve a "whistling" noise (plus exhaust smell in the cab) in my 2017 diesel pickup. Enormous costs, without a successful resolution...not to mention months without a functional. farm pickup. Ultimately I took the truck to Lethal Diesel in Staunton. They repaired the truck for a fraction of the total charges from Obaugh Chevrolet. While Obaugh's did write off some of the labor costs, the failure to fix the truck was unimportant to dealership management. I sent a followup letter to the dealer...after the truck was finally repaired...detailing the costs spent and significant loss of use, yet never received a reply. If you have any issues with a diesel truck, save yourself the heartache and use either Lethal Diesel in Staunton or Bethel Bend Farm in Elkton. Obaugh's service department lacks the skill set to repair diesel pickups. read more

This is the worst experience I could've ever imagined when getting a car. Came in to see Gerald Harman, since he shares some family members as I do, and I was completely screwed over. Looked around and found a car there and asked if there was ever was any damage and even looked at carvana to check and nothing was reported. Was told the car has no damages multiple times (cosmetic or otherwise) and since it was someone who was thought to be trusted, the purchasing process began. Before the car was even bought I noticed damages on the passenger side, and saw there was a whole section of paint that wasn't the same color as the rest of the car. When brought up to Gerald before buying the vehicle he said he has a guy who owes him a favor, so that would be no problem to fix. I understood that and continued with the buying process. Once I get the car home and have a couple other people look over it, and quickly we noticed problem after problem. Now granted it is the buyers responsibility to look over the car, but when you're told multiple times there's no damage and someone who is supposed to be part of your family tells you that, you typically take their word, so hence forth I didn't think this was going to be a concern. There were multiple cracks in the windshield (which they did replace), broken fender (which was not mentioned, but they did put a fender wheel liner on, but that doesn't change the fact the fender is broken and a completely different color than the car.), and marker on the ceiling in multiple spots. It took almost a month just to get the windshield replaced and the liner put on, when I was told it'd take maybe a week. It was almost impossible to get in contact with anyone about it during the waiting period as well, and felt like a complete run around just trying to get things fixed. Now back to Gerald. It's been two weeks since he said he had someone who is going to check out the car to fix the paint, and as I said he told me before I even got the car that he'd have that fixed, (which makes this almost two months in total at this point). Had I known he wasn't going to fix the paint like promised, I wouldn't have gotten the car in the first place, and that doesn't even count all the issues I found with the car once I got home with it. Definitely would not recommend getting a car here, and if for some reason you do I would not recommend Gerald, unless you want to be lied to and manipulated. And if there were any concerns with me making this up, I have text proof of Gerald telling me he'd fix the paint, and even the "arrangement" he made for someone to come to my job to look at my car, gave me a date and time, and then said person never showed up and it's been two weeks since then and I've asked multiple times if he's heard anything and I've been meant with silence and now he's telling me he never said he'd fix the paint when I have multiple witnesses and text messages saying he would. I went in and spoke with the general manager and was told someone would call me within the week, and no one has so here I am leaving this review to hopefully save someone else from this same disaster. read more

I then took it to the Chevy dealer listed above for an assessment and diagnostic. They broke the driveshaft, it had rust damage and because they could no longer drive it towed it to their parking lot which I'm assuming is close by. They were afraid to put it on the rack because of rust damage and decided not to work on it. They charged me $350.00 dollars! They really stick it to the working man. I'll never go back there again! Continued disappointment! I bought a 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 from them little over a month ago now. Less than 30 days the check engine light came on and needed fuel rails replaced. Within two days of repairs it is now leaking fuel and must be taken back in. Also to those veterans seeing the service flags out front, they gave no recognition or offers. Bought three new cars from here over the last 15 years and had many others serviced. Switched to having their Waynesboro office service several years ago because the customer service at the Staunton location was abysmal to say the least. But now with the Waynesboro store closing, I've had to have warranty work and such done in Staunton again. And the service is just as bad as before. I won't be buying more cars here. Same worthless people are retained. Brought my car for inspection, tire rotation, and oil change. There was a hole in a tire that couldn't be patched, so when I got it back they needed to order a tire to be installed the next day, and they would call me when it was in. Fine. When I got home I noticed that the oil life indicator was not reset. Neither was the Tire Pressure Monitoring system to relearn the new tire location. I knew that because the low tire still indicated the same location on the car. Which should be the case if they actually rotated the tires. Who knows? Just lazy. Of course, they never called the next day that my tire came in, which it did. They told me that someone had actually closed my account as the work was performed. Which it was NOT. They said bring the car back and we will mount the new tire. Fine. Piece of cake, right? Even for them. Wrong. Car brought in at 11:15. By noon I ask the status and told just another 5 minutes while they relearn the tire location for the TPS. Fine. By 12:30 I ask again and told just another 5 minutes. By 1 pm, still no car. At this point I'm seething and no one even wants to talk to me. It comes back at 1:25. More than two hours for a tire swap. Clearly, once again, they had to take their lunch break and just left it for an hour. While they knew I was waiting. And had the car WASHED again, even though they just washed it the day before when it was brought in, and they knew I was waiting. This was a 30 minute job at most, and took 5 times that long. At least this time my pocket change and folder dollars in my center console didn't walk away, like it had before. They need to read these reviews and take to heart that there is still a problem. Unfriendly staff. Carelessness. No attention to detail. No customer service at all. Why have I been coming back and bought cars recently you may ask? Their SALES staff are first class. They give great deals. They are VERY attentive to detail and customer satisfaction. Five stars. Every purchase experience. Special shout out to Pat Berrang, sr sales executive. He's the best. So Charlie OBaugh, take a good look at your post-sales service. A great car buying experience spoiled by what comes after. It's a shame, really. Any business willing to take advantage of a disabled man on a fixed income and smack talk "women" customers as they walk away from the service desk can't be trusted. David Wood, Donnie Eckert, and their manager Cliff Clements were so disrespectful and rude, I had to write this review. My developmentally challenged cousin brought his vehicle to Charlie O'baugh for service last March because the air bag light was on in his Mazda. They performed the service and charged him $500. Almost immediately the light came back on but between being on lock down for Covid and his being delayed, my cousin didn't know that he should bring his car back. In January, my sister-in-law and I took over my cousin's finances; we immediately contacted Charlie O'baugh's service department who denied any responsibility. So, in March we took the car to another mechanic who confirmed that the car was having the same problem it had when O'baugh "fixed it." We called Charlie O'baugh's service department in January when the part was under warranty and David Wood made no mention of it being under warranty, nor did he offer to take a look at the vehicle and find a solution. After receiving the diagnostic from our own mechanic, we went into the shop physically to discuss the problem with Mr. Wood. We realized when we overheard the men at the service desk complaining about "women customers" that we were in for a long conversation. Mr. Wood again offered no help, said the part was out of warranty and made no effort to make the situation better. His co-worker Donnie Eckert in the next cubicle was quick to join in. When we escalated to the Service Manager, Cliff Clements, he defended the actions of his employees and still offered no assistance. They all stated that the car was a Mazda as if that excused shoddy service and the fact that they happily took $500 from a disabled man without backing up their work. If you don't service Mazda's then tell the customer up front and send them to someone who does. Mr. Clements, after saying they could go 50-50 on fixing the same repair again, disliked that we requested a new diagnostic (after being told by Mr. Wood that they would need to do their own diagnostic), got belligerent, and then told us that he doesn't know if he even wants to work with us. This kind of bullying, taking advantage of the disabled, and lack of responsibility is a huge red flag for me as a consumer. As a woman, I wouldn't feel safe entrusting my vehicle to this dealer and I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

I will quickly start going back 5 years to another disaster with the same dealership (at their other location in Waynesboro) over the same vehicle. The truck was brought in and dropped off for them to review a transmission issue. They were horrible about making calls to let me know they had even looked at the truck, and I kept having to call. I don't like to hound people, so days would go by, and eventually, because I didn't stay on top of them, they had the truck for 7 weeks! (It still has the same problem to this day) Furious, I called the owner personally, and explained the issue calmly. He appreciated the feedback, refunded a portion of our bill, and Introduced us to his new service manager who helped us when we continued to return. When he left the job, we stopped doing business with Obaugh. Fast forward to last week, same truck, new Staunton location. The serviceman even recognized the vehicle and remembered the "kerfuffle" from the other location. The truck blower would not turn off when the key was removed, and the same day we brought it in, both driver windows wouldn't work. We had made an appointment the previous week for Monday morning, and we arrived at 9 am, only to be told that there was only one tech who could look at the vehicle, he wouldn't get to it that day, had a class the next day, and would probably look at it Wednesday. So, we wait, and hear nothing Wednesday evening. We call Thursday, and the service guy has issues with his computer and can't find out the diagnosis. It takes him two hours to call back but he hasn't diagnosed the driver window, and isn't 100% on the blower issue. So he has to go back to the tech to find out what is wrong with the window, and we are told we would hear back by days end. Of course, we didn't. So now it's 11 am on Friday, plenty of time for them to call with the diagnosis. We call them, leave a message. No return call, so we arrive at the dealership at 4 pm . The service guy isn't surprised to see us, asks "what's up?" When we tell him we are there for the truck, he seems stunned, and says "but it's not fixed yet". Of course it's not, because they haven't even given us a diagnosis and quote, and haven't received permission to do the work. Because they never called to follow up. They brought the truck around, and we left. Never again. How hard is it to call a customer with the information they need to make a decision about a repair? Isn't that their job? They had the vehicle 5 full days and nothing. Will take it to a locally repair shop before we ever set foot in an Obaugh dealership again. read more

Only because I couldn't give a zero star rating. Avoid this place at all cost. Paid $3168 to have AC system done in a 94 Corvette I was restoring. In two weeks the AC stopped working, all freon leaked out. Went back, was told "that part wasn't changed, just every piece it was connected to." They wanted another $600 to correct the error they overlooked, and I found by looking under the hood myself. The part needed to complete the job AC suction/discharge hose is $34 at Parts Geek, Obaugh wanted to charge me $240 and $400 to recharge the system because they overlooked the leak the first time. Happy to say I went to the Peoples Garage in Waynesboro and the entire job was $260. Avoid Obaugh at all cost. In my opinion, a bunch of shady crooks. read more

I bought four brand new tires knowing they did not offer free rotation, balancing etc as some other companies do that sell tires. That was fine I accepted that thinking a convenient clean environment. Hence 2 stars. 1700 miles later I was having state inspection done at another dealership for state inspection & ask them if they would go ahead & check my tires since I was there. The inspection came back that out of the four new tires, 3 were installed incorrectly & would cost me $60 2 have installed correctly. This I did. Later I called the service dept at O'baugh's explaining what had happened & was it possible for any type of compensation. The first man I talked to was beyond rude to the point he made me feel dirty & ended saying I should talk to service manager who wasn't there. I called another day talked to service manager who was very nice & said I shouldn't get just some compensation, I should get the full $60 back. He said he would have a check sent as soon as he saw receipt in an email. The other dealership did this & I have NEVER received anything from O'bough's, not even a call back. So if you're buying tires, buy them where they are installed correctly. read more

Ive bought a couple cats here. Always a mess. Literally nobody here knows anything about what they are doing. Service. Dont do it. The staff are very poorly trained and cant answer any questions. If they do answer an important question for you, i.e. When will it be done?, when will the parts be in?, are the parts in?, how much will it cost?, they will answer with some arbitrary answer just to sound good, but it will be wrong. After talking to a manager, he assured me that these employees are well trained, so its a top down problem. Service guy was great!! Give him a raise! read more

He was not a pushy car salesman! If he was we would have just walked away. We were then walked through the paperwork (had to sign a lot of forms but they made it as easy as they could). So after a few hours we left with a new car. After 45 years of getting service performed by GM dealers, this is the worst service I have ever received! This is the first service I have had performed at this dealer. Dealer was contacted early Monday morning, to replace broken GM coolant hose, and re install the belt that came off. We wanted to determine if they could perform repairs immediately, since the breakdown occurred 800 miles from home. Service department agreed that they could do the repairs immediately. Day 1: reported that bad parts were not GM parts. (Turns out one part wasn't bad, and the other was a GM part). Day 2: We called every day. Told them it was a GM COOLANT HOSE. Same results as above Day 3: Same as above Day 4: dealer Ordered bad part from GM and started working on vehicle. Day 5: installed bad part and called at 4:45pm Friday, to present us with the bill. NO PARTS WERE SUBMITTED FOR WARRANTY TO GM. BILL WAS SUBMITTED TO US, and WERE TOLD WE MUST PAY IN FULL WITH CREDIT CARD. THESE ARE THE FACTS. Took my 2012 Suburban in for new brake pads on July 28. They said it would be $300 which I unfortunately assumed was competitive. Two days later I get the vehicle back and a bill for $400 (The $300 was just for brakes, not labor). All I needed was brake pads (I know this because I was at another dealership out of town getting an oil change and they told me.) I called around to some other brake dealers and was routinely quoted between $150 (Eavers in Fishersville) and $250 for parts and labor. Should I have done my homework beforehand on pricing between businesses? Yes. Do I want to deal with someone that will totally screw me on price if I don't? Absolutely not. Waited 20 minutes to schedule service over the phone. Employees with haughty attitudes when you explain you've been waiting. Combined Waynesboro and Staunton locations but don't communicate this. Awful treatment all the way around. I'm in the market for a vehicle and can't imagine how the sales experience would be if the service is so atrocious. What happened to all the friendly people? I am extremely disappointed in this dealership. My newly purchased vehicle had dry rotted tires after only 3 months and 10k miles and, come to find out, were much older than I was led to believe by the salesman. I have reached out repeatedly for assistance and have met with resistance at every point. The *only* thing they agreed to do to compensate me was to offer me new tires at no labor and at their wholesale cost, which I highly doubt was an accurate quote given the true costs I know from other dealerships. To have to pay almost $1000.00 shortly after purchasing the vehicle is absurd. They told me they would reach out to Michelin to try to get a warranty reimbursement to offset some of the cost and claimed that they had not heard back yet. I was able to get a hold of Michelin customer service, which is the same number they would have called, and the Michelin salesperson called Charlie O'Baugh service department while I was still on the phone in order to find a quick and agreeable solution. When I tried to follow up with Robert Washburn and Clint and Ian from the service department to get an appointment for tire replacement, no one bothered to give me a response and it has been a full week since I reached out to them. Because of this, I am taking my business elsewhere for new tires, as my safety is far more important than waiting on them to get their act together and make this right.
