    Cleveland dog after one bite

after years of eating here I finally got their hot dogs. best hot dog I have ever had. Toasted bun and grilled

The food was good - my mom says it was one of the best Benedict's she's ever had, it was delicious. She had the florentine Benedict. I got the Charlie's special, I didn't specify my dairy allergy, just asked for no butter on my toast - when I get the same thing at Perkins while specifying my allergy I have a reaction every time - here I had ZERO reaction to the food. I am delighted. If you want to go to some high end place that charges $30 for a mediocre burger, and serves their fries with garlic aioli to be "special" this place isn't for you. It seemed like a very reasonable classic diner, neon signs were cool, and the niche interior was CHARMING. The waitress was very nice - not in the "robot smile" way - but in a genuine way, she engaged in some fun banter and teasing, and it felt good to feel a more relaxed atmosphere. The woman who served us said she was also the manager - props to her! It felt comfortable and I can't wait to return - no wonder there are so many regulars.

Charlie's is great! My husband and I moved to Old Brooklyn in June 2021 and have been wanting to go here since we did. Charlie's is only a breakfast/lunch spot though so frequently by the time we'd remember they'd be closed. Fast forward to today and we remembered in time to go for lunch. Inside you'll find a small and aged diner with mostly counter seating and a few two-tops squeezed in. The waitress working the counter was quick and friendly - it's clear Charlie's has been her place for years the way she nimbly and efficiently gets orders out and waits on all the customers. My husband got a Chicago dog and a diner dog (which comes with coleslaw and chili). I got the Cleveland dog which comes with Bertmans mustard and chopped onions. We split some fries that were perfectly crispy. The breakfast menu also looked like classic diner food - the kind of greasy spoon you look for. We'll be back for breakfast and lunch soon.

Living in Old Brooklyn for over 11 years I've passed this place a million times. I was really craving a hot dog so I decided it was time to give them a try. Service is friendly but very slow. I wasn't in a hurry so it was not a huge deal. I got a chili dog and fries and it was delicious. I think my portion of fries was a bit skimpy but ahh well. I will definitely call ahead next time when I have another hot dog craving.

Really nice food, great staff in a unique throw back kind of setting. Love the counter seating! Everything was prepared well and taste was terrific.

I've wondered for the longest time how big the inside of Charlie's Restaurant has been. Back in January this year, I found out! With approximately 12 seats in the diner, your food is served up quick and it's a neat experience! The 2 servers/chefs behind the counter have been running the location of years and they are a gem!

For years I've driven by and even as a kid called it the coke building but this morning I stopped in for breakfast. And I wish I had sooner for sure, very small place 12-15 people max! Coming in here is definitely like stepping back in time, 1 table that I saw and the rest is bar/counter seating. The menu has a nice selection and prices are fair, I ordered the Ashlee burrito and I was very good packed full of all the breakfast essentials lol. Over all great spot I definitely see why they've been there for as long as they have. Oh yeah CASH ONLY.

Best orange juice in town and love the lotto tickets. Country fried steak, 4 eggs scram, extra crispy has browns all day. Lunch is short closes to early.

Love the neon! Love the dogs!

I enjoyed my meal at Charlie's, and I think I can explain the way the Yelp reviews careen between 1's and 5's. This place is OLD and old-style. It opened in 1952 but might as well be from the 1930s. It's teeny (just a counter and about a dozen stools), the menu is old-school (burgers, hot dogs, breakfast anytime), the food is all cooked to order, and the service is very friendly (the waitress calls you hon) . The down side of that is it's teeny (no restroom) the menu is old-style (no salads), it takes a while to get your food, and the waitress really slings the hash. Your impression will be decided by what you honestly like and enjoy. If what you like (be honest now!) is swanky leasehold improvements and a waiter who crouches down to introduce talk about the chef's philosophy of locally sourced ingredients, walk you through the menu, and keeps checking if everything is done to your liking this is probably not the place for you. If what you enjoy is a trip back in time, an almost antiquated menu and cooking methods (i.e., no delivered pillows of soup, or dozens of burgers sizzling on the grill waiting to be ordered), and a waitress who addresses you with a genuine human warmth, you'll love it. I love hot dogs. I love places that are comfortably integrated in countless ways. I hate putting on airs. I loved the totally original decor. Was it the best, cheapest, most wonderful food ever? No. But it was a heck of a lot of fun. It reminded me of places I went with my dad 50 years ago or more. (I would say it's not good for large groups as about 95 percent of the seating is counter stools.)

There fries were also very nice, crunchy, and spiced well. This is mostly a carry-out joint, but they have a couple of tables inside to eat at. Overall, nice place for lunch.

But whoever is grilling the burgers at the other location is who is keeping me coming back. Other than that, other location is farther from me, it's worth a drive. What I really like about this place is the fresh meat and the disclaimer about the meats and how it's prepare. Well, I didn't like this time around is at the meat lacked seasoning, and the meat did not have that crispy edge or the juiciness in comparison to the other location. Unfortunately, I will not be back to this location unless I'm really thirsty for a good burger. If this is your first time at this location, then yes it's delicious. It's one of the best burgers in Cleveland. If you visit the other location first you're definitely gonna be disappointed when you go to this one.

I wanted to try the pierogi and the Polish boy and the KRAUT and having an extensive beer menu doesn't hurt either. Friendly neighborhood watering hole literally on the corner and basically across the street from the a Christmas story house allowing you to eat within eye sight of the leg lamp. I wanted basically everything from the menu that came vegan (spoiler alert there are tons and tons of things) but gastric space comes at a premium on vacation so we settled on the fried cheese. I was very excited to see the Polish boy (and vegan option no less) I didn't have much of a choice. GF ordered the vegan pierogi platter with vegan kielbasa on a bed of kraut. Firstly the fried cheese was head and shoulders above any mozz sticks or anything of the sort that I have had in memory. The breading is seasoned and crispy and heaven on earth. The cheese is PIPING. Like you will burn yourself if you, like me, have no patience. The accompanying tomato sauce is also steaming. So good. The Polish boy was also in a league of its own. Love that they have a vegan version. What a combo. Probably one of Cleveland's most important community contributions. We ordered the latkes to go and they were orgasmic. What a special place.

If we were not looking for this place specifically, I know we would've driven right past it! It's a standalone little building and the only markings I saw outside was a little sign that said BAR. But it was 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and there were several cars in the parking lot, which is a good sign. The inside is really tiny. There's a large U-shaped bar and about six tables. We looked in the menu and opted for their famous Smashburger. It is $14 and comes with fries. It is a double patty cheeseburger. I did not want a burger that big so I opted for just one Patty. They said that was no problem, but the price was still the same. I also got onion rings, which were $3 more. The food came out really fast and you could tell it came right out of the fryer because the french fries were super hot! This place is called a dive bar, and I guess it is - but on a Saturday afternoon, the place was filled with all kinds of people. On one side of us was a family with little kids. On the other side of us was a couple in their 20s. And then the rest of the place was filled with people from every age group. I have to say that the music they play there is fabulous! But back to the food. The burger was seasoned really well! It is a smash burger, but they're still able to make it crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Our server was really good. She did not hover, but she was around to see if you need anything. Depending on the vibe that you're looking for, if you want more of a bar vibe, you should go in the evening, but we were happy to just be in a relaxed little joint with good food. They opened up another Crowley's in Painesville so we will probably have to try that one too.

Soooo good! We also tried the side of spicy pickles which were a great side dish. They tasted very fresh and were not too strong with vinegar or sweetness, if that's your preference. The margarita was simple but refreshing. Shout out to the bartender for his craft! My only critique was on the ube cheesecake. The flavor was delicious! The entire meal was spent watching the employees roll utensils and people waiting for the bathrooms (which were covered in... sticky... substances).
