wow. I have wanted to try the banh mi here for a while. I happened to be downtown and headed home I saw plenty of parking so I decided to finally stop. Walked in. 1 person ahead of me. His food came out and he walked over to the register to pay. The woman in sight greeted me. Nice. Then walked over to ring the dude up. I stood at the place to order. Another man walked in and she proceeded to help him, not me. He had multiple lottery tickets and she was calculating the amount to pay out. Annoying. At this point she said to me to "ring the bell." Look down. Bell. Rang it. Single ding. Still no one to help me, initial woman still dealing with payout. I ring the bell again. Twice. No one comes out. First woman finishes up the transaction and I say that I rang the bell. She came around and took my order and left it on the desk, after asking me if I like my banh mi spicy. Yes, and I explained how I got one recently without jalapeno and that fortunately I had some at home where I was eating it. She agreed that the sandwich needed jalapeno. She went to the back and apparently told another woman about my order. Second woman comes out and gets a rubber band and puts it on what looks like a previous order. OK I get it, she's finishing up an order. Then this second woman is wiping down counters and organizing stuff. WTF? I've already been here 7 minutes. Is someone going to make this sandwich? Eventually the second woman looks at the order and opens up a mushy roll and plops it onto the grill. Oh dear. This isn't right. Then she put some meat on the grill - I ordered pork - there wasn't a combo with pate. Soft roll, no pate - 2 bad signs already. She builds the sandwich over the next 5 minutes (yes, I was looking at my watch - was trying to get to HS to give to my son), gets a piece of parchment paper, puts the sandwich in and rolls it, and puts in a Signature Select (Safeway?) bag - ? - and hands it to me with a smile and a thank you. OK so maybe the delay was that she had to turn on the grill? I don't know, but it took FOREVER for me to get out of there. The kicker? Barely any daikon/carrot/cilantro on the sandwich, and NO JALAPEÑO?!?! We just discussed this! Mushy gross roll. The pork was ... interesting. This is a sandwich, defiinitely NOT banh mi, and definitely not worth the total of 14 minutes (12:44-12:58) that I spent in that establishment. Also, 2 dudes walked in after me and she took their order straight away. Like, no way should I have had to wait after the guy that entered after me. Take my order, tell it to the woman in the back, and GET IT DONE. THEN help the dude that was getting money back from the lottery. I'm still annoyed and this was an hour ago. Oh, and the sandwich went in the trash after 3 bites. NOPE.

Service is good but... Worst Vietnamese food I ever hadThere are no reason why oregano and kale is in pho! This is a Vietnamese soup not a Italian pizza! I ordered the combination pho and the protein that came with it was steak and beef balls. I would recommend this location to use a YouTube recipe to make pho! Whatever they are cooking it's not pho. Very very honest opinion!

Was walking in downtown San Mateo when I came upon this market. I had never heard of it before but saw that they sell Vietnamese sandwiches. My partner and I ordered the tofu and chicken sandwiches. Both had a really nice smokey flavor and I loved that there were a lot more veggies than a typical Bahn Mi... although the chicken was a bit dry and tofu a little wet. Overall, it was very affordable and I thought it was tasty! We also got a Vietnamese coffee which came in a huge size and was really really good (we asked for less sweet, and it was perfect). The owner was a super cute Vietnamese woman who was enthusiastic and really sweet. I'd come back in the future to support this local business!

I have to say for a hole in the wall. Excited to say you not bad at all. Foremost I came in for coffee. Plain and simple. Excellent cup of coffee . Flavorful and coated the tongue. But what happened next was the most enjoyable. The warmth and caring of family. I looked over and they had on a cold display spaghetti with meat sauce. And asked if it was from next door (pasta place) they said No , my mother made it her way. And Karen proceeded to tell me her mom makes excellent spaghetti. So I bought one. As you can tell from the picture , large portion!!! Delicious. Came back a couple of days later. And called ahead of time asked for two more orders for pick up. They only had two more left. I got what I am craving. Thank you so much .

The sandwiches are so dry, the bread is wrong, stale, pork was dry, a ton of mayonnaise. The vermicelli noodles were straight vinegar no other flavor to them.

My new favorite spot for a bite to eat after being at the park. It's half a corner store with a little restaurant attached, so good for a casual place to eat! They don't have a lot of the menu, but the food is really good and a little non-traditional. The egg-rolls were big and stuffed with lots of meat. They remind me a little of my mom's lumpia that she makes. The Vietnamese sandwiches are also big and full of meat. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The bread was toasted (my favorite) and really soft on the outside, not tough at all. They use mayo on the sandwiches which I love. Everything was made to order, cooked just a couple feet away. Also, the woman was super kind and chatty. If you're by the park and hungry, give this place a try!

Warm inviting casual family friendly dining. Great place to meet friends for informal lunch or dinner. I love their pork bahn mi, the tangy sour vietnamese pickles slathered on top of roasted tender pork meat inside a sweet french bread, almost like a dutch crunch. Ran by two sisters, with positive vibes, laughing about their day while serving locals. This is my go to for lunch or dinner to go when I crave vietnamese food. Comfy at home feel, keeps me coming back. You will leave feeling satisfied and in a better mood.

Big gaps between rounds made me feel like I wasted a lot of time for the AYCE price. (-1) Their appetizers and "from the wok" section was not impressive. We tried their calamari and their onion rings and both were over-fried. We also tried their garlic noodles and their crab fried rice. The garlic noodles were super watery. My partner did enjoy the crab fried rice and could taste the crab. For the main entrees, we ordered shrimp, snow crabs, and clams, all perfectly cooked! Plump and flavorful. The sauce was pretty thick and garlicky-- 10/10 sauce lol it was almost creamy? Their service was fine. The staff were pretty attentive and they were always asking if we needed anything outside of rounds. (-1) You do have to finish every single piece of seafood in your round before you can request more, and it takes a long time for the next round to arrive. I felt like I waited 10 minutes between each round. If you're the kind of person that likes to maximize your eating time, you might find this super frustrating. This was really my only issue but wouldn't stop me from visiting again and considering à la carte only vs AYCE.

I got one serving of shrimp and it was 5 shrimp then you wait 30 minutes for the next round because the service is slow. Flavors are okay, there's a thickening agent like flour in the sauce and it feels so wasteful to have a giant vat of sauce with 5 shrimp inside. I think when taking orders, there's so much customization for each person that it takes a long time to even take an order. Something like a tablet to order would save a ton of labor time for the employees then they can focus on providing great service.

We ordered the ceviche ($21), papas bravas ($11), kale salad ($17), salmon ($35), and seafood pasta ($34). The ceviche was fresh and I really liked the citrusy notes (it was quite tropical and I thought it was possibly passionfruit?). The papas bravas was a decent sized serving and came with an addictive sauce. The kale salad came with a piece of fried feta and the only fault I found with it... was that I wanted more fried feta bits! Salmon was cooked well, and I liked the accompanying veggies - seemed like a very healthy Mediterranean dish. The seafood pasta was also very good. Husband said the fish in his dish was cooked even better than mine. Lastly, they offered us a whole complimentary dessert. We were already beyond stuffed at that point, but who are we to turn down a coconut creme brulee? Another review said they couldn't taste the coconut, but it's definitely there. Bahche is one of the rare exceptions. It has good ambiance, located in a nice area and has good service. We ordered several dishes and everything was very well made -- flavourful, decent serving size and yummy. None of the dishes we ordered were too greasy either. The octopus starter and the lamb chops stood out to me. The only negative I felt were the prices. We landed up spending about $250 for three. That's what one would pay for an upscale steak house with great service -- Bahche was not that good. That's why I reduced the number of stars by 1.

We saw to people there and they greeted us when we came in. Seemed like it was a mom and daughter. They were very nice. They sat us down and gave us the menu and how the ayce works. I am not sure how to rate the food. The selection of seafood that you can pick was nice. Clams, mussels, shrimp and crawfish were the seafood picks you can do. Potatoes, sausage, corn were the free add on that you can do. I do not eat crawfish, which was also a seafood pick, so I can't review that. Everything was good. The shrimp was hit and miss, depending on the piece. They were peel and eat, but some shrimps were mushy meaning those shrimps were old. It was tolerable. Nothing that I haven't had before. I'll let it go for the price point they offer. The clam and mussels were good. As expected. The sausage, corn and potatoes were good as well. The place was pretty legit. The fried shrimp and fried chicken wings were amazing! Freshly fried, they were juicy and steaming on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Although the place was dead (it was a Wednesday after all), we did see a lot of people come in and pick up food to-go. Not sure if they were customers or drivers picking up for Doordash/Uber Eats. All in all, I would definitely come back to this place.

The restaurant was a little more than half full when we had dinner there on a Friday night and the ambiance is lively but not loud. The ceviches were bright, limey, and tart in the best way, the chicken wings were crispy and juicy, the papa rellena was especially interesting (almost like an inside-out, deep-fried baked potato) with olives and raisins that were a pleasant surprise, and the lomo saltado was as comforting and dependable as it usually is. To top it all off, they even offer Peruvian beers, which was the perfect way to wash everything down. The staff explained there was a mixup and due to that all the orders continued getting mixed up during our meal, but there was no acknowledgment otherwise or an attempt to make things right. I think because the group tip is already mandatory, there was no incentive on their end, perhaps. The bus staff are pretty available and responsive but limited in what they were allowed to assist with and the server was hard to flag down. Anyway onto the food. The clams linguine was flavorful. The crab Alfredo pasta had a lot of crab which was a pleasant surprise but a little lacking in flavor and a little on the sweet side with cream and crab notes. Cioppino was better than expected.
