This dated (1969) local's dive is one of the strangest dining experiences I have ever encountered. We arrived on-time for our reservation and were told our booth was not ready yet. Meanwhile there were 2 booths identical to the one we eventually were seated in sitting vacant next to it. After standing around by the door for 10 minutes, we finally took it upon ourselves to order a drink at the bar. Turns out the drink and bartender were the highlight of the evening. Twenty minutes after our reservation time, we were finally shown to our booth. Waiter finally shows up after another 10 minutes with menus. He explained the salad bar was an upcharge on any entrée and unfortunately, we opted for it. Our mistake for not eyeballing it first, as the offerings were very limited - I've seen bigger salad bars at fast food restaurants. And who really likes broccoli cheddar soup? Finished with our salads there was another long wait until finally we snagged our waiter and advised we were ready to order. No, not yet he explained as the meat-cart man was busy and would get to our table eventually. Finally, someone from the kitchen comes rolling a metal cart to our table with slabs of raw meat sitting atop it for us to choose - very unsanitary and unappetizing. We ordered and the meal finally arrived, over an hour after we had arrived. Steaks were mediocre and baked potato tiny; we've had better meals at Outback Steakhouse. Fortunately for Charolais Steakhouse it's a small town with limited culinary options, but next time we'd eat anywhere else. read more

The table side service to choose your cut of steak was a huge surprise and allowed interaction with the chef. Restaurant was very busy for a Thursday but we were able to get a table for two without a reservation. The hostess and service were excellent. The only bad thing was I ordered a medium-rare dry-aged ribeye, which is over $50. Our server didn't serve it and it didn't look great. It's dimly lit in the restaurant but inspecting it further it was pretty overcooked. I got our server's attention and asked how he thought it was cooked. He said, "At least medium-well...let me take this and I'll be back." When he came back he brought a complimentary beer (I declined another earlier) and apologized. We agreed that it looked like it oxidized and wasn't cooked well regardless. The second one was perfect and the chef brought it out and made sure I was happy. My wife's filet was perfectly cooked. This steakhouse is a hidden gem! We went as a part of the Queen's Feast Restaurant Week and we're pleasantly surprised with the exceptional service and the foods, delicious! Matthew, our waiter was attentive to the our every need. Quick on refilling our drinks and with 5 star attention to detail. We opted for the salad bars-in which there was over 40 toppings that were so fresh! The blue cheese dressing was definitely house made (cheese chunks the size of dimes). Our steak, petite filet was perfectly cooked. The dessert was light and I enjoyed every every- -although I was already stuffed! Chocolate mousse is my favorite, and didn't disappoint. Wow, wow, wow! Where has customer service gone? I never write reviews...never! I was compelled to make this my first! I flew in from Florida for a one day business trip and decided to go to this restaurant real quickly to kill time and I just had some French onion soup, which was terrible! Panera's is much better! After finishing my soup I set up an Uber driver to take me back to my hotel. I walked outside to wait for 10 minutes and being from Florida 50° is too cold for me to wanna stand outside for 10 minutes. So I go back inside and wait. Then the rude bartender, James, came up to me and asked me what I needed. I said nothing I'm waiting here because I don't wanna be outside as I'm waiting for Uber. He said I couldn't just stand here and told me because it's a traffic area I'll have to go outside. Traffic area? As I looked around and saw no one in the 'heavy traffic area'. Then I asked the hostess if he was that rude to everyone? She smiled and said that it's not the first time she's heard that. Michael D. shared a review here and he said it best about the bartender James. He must be related to the owners and their afraid to fire him is my guess. "Bartender was rude and just downright ass." We had not been to Charolais in many years so we decided the Queen's Fest (restaurant week) was a good time to give it another try. We were impressed with the interior upgrades. The service was outstanding. The waitress could not have been more attentive. She was not overbearing, but just enough attention. Appetizers were ok. I had the Burrata and my wife had the Artichoke & Spinach Dip. Both were good. We both had a Caesar salad. It was a pleasant surprise. It was much larger than expected and it had a great dressing lots of shaved parmesan cheese. Main course was a filet and a 28 day aged ribeye. The filet was just what you would want in a filet, tender and good flavor. Cooked exactly as my wife ask. Unfortunately, the 28 day aged ribeye was void of any flavor and it was very tough. I honestly thought they had gone out to a local grocery store and purchased this ribeye. I am lucky enough that I get to dine at some nice restaurants with my job and this was not an aged ribeye. A ribeye should be busting with flavor. This ribeye absolutely had zero flavor. The guy pushing the butcher cart was not very friendly. He got upset when people did not have side item ready to give him. However, there were no side items listed on the Queens Fest menu. The couple setting next to us even commented that he was nicer to us than he was to them because they did not know the side items. I see some reviewers call Charolais a premier dinning destination. Obviously they have never been to a steakhouse in Chicago, NY or Dallas. It is a step up from Lone Star, Outback and Long Horn, but far from a premier steakhouse. Second time visiting. It was very busy when we arrived. We were seated at a high top table. I attempted to sit in the barstool but kept sliding out if it, not to mention I was seated in the direct pathway to the kitchen so I got bumped every so often by waitstaff passing by (not their fault; table needs to be positioned better out of pathway.) Ordered the petite filet MR, hubby had the prime rib. Couple next to us also ordered the filets, they complained it was tough and waitress sent back. I was 2 bites into mine when same waitress asked how our meal was; I had no complaint, but as I got more into my filet I noticed I had to really start chewing the heck out of it to get it down. Didn't dare tell waitress as she was dealing with the table next to us turning down the second filets she brought them. Not sure if it was just that one particular filet section that we all got but it shouldn't have been tough. Our waitress was excellent and every other part of our meal was good, but not worth $70, sorry. Might try again another time. read more

This quaint, beautiful diamond in the rough of a restaurant was recommended to us from a food show my coworker and I recent worked. I am a research and development chef and my coworker is the salesman of an Italian pasta company from Long Island, New York. Our waitress, Lindy was absolutely gracious and outstanding and the food was phenomenal. The salad bar, appetizers and entrees were all beautifully plated and equally delicious. Appetizers we ordered the fried green tomato caprese and the fried calamari, entrees we had the double lobster tail with vegetable and my coworker got the crab cakes, and for dessert, I had the crepe brûlée' (which exceeded my expectations as a former pastry chef as well). Originally I was from Georgia, born and raise and being back down south at such a wonderful restaurant really expedited southern hospitality at its finest. I cannot wait to come back for business just so I can have another lovely meal at Chardolais steak house and have Lindy as a server again, because she's amazing and truly loves her job as a waitress and it shows, she definitely deserves a lovely bottle of wine or something for her hard work and dedication read more

Used to love this place. However, our experience tonight was not great. It started off with our waiter (a bald gentleman) who wouldn't speak to us. When we asked questions about the beer menu he aggressively reached over, moved my mother's hand, flung open the menu and walked off. He refused to help announce the choices they had and they weren't even busy. He didn't even bother to take any one else's drink order as he flew off. We all sat there in shock and disbelief. When he came back we tried speaking to him candidly and he ignored us. He was an absolute jerk and ruined my birthday dinner. There was not even a candle on my dessert or anything even though the kind man at the host table took note of my birthday. It was the most non special place to celebrate anything and I will never return from the horrible experience with the rude waiter. Food wise, the Caesar was dry and the baked potato was hard. My now husband and I went there every weekend when we were dating. I was only disappointed in my meal once. This is an honest review, though I feel I must disclaim that my cousins are the new owners. I love the updates. They've modernized it, without compromising the style of the old restaurant. The prices are reasonable for a steakhouse this exceptional. It is a dining experience just like I remember from years ago. I am not sure if reservations are required, but I would recommend. Years ago, we stood in a line to get in - I don't think they took reservations then. So this is an improvement, no more having to stand outside in the cold waiting for a table. read more

Impeccable!! Took my parents here for dinner the Friday after thanksgiving and had a wonderful experience. Had the chance to converse with the owner and enjoy! I'm a huge fan of a Pintoage and they originally did not have one here. He took the efforts to get a bottle just for me! The ambiance of this place is surely but nothing less than classic! Cockroach on the table we were sitting at. At the salad bar there were three cockroaches climbing in and out of the toppings. I called an employee over to tell her about the bugs in the food. She said, "Did you kill them?" What kind of response is that? She continued to say, "Oh, I know what it is.. we had someone come spray for bugs the other day". She walked over and tried to remove them but they scattered. That was the end of it. No cleaning or replacing the food. I wanted to hate it when we walked through the front doors. It's completely different looking and modern. The old look was inviting and just had the charm of hickory. This restaurant has been one of my favorites for many years, but last night was not impressive. The steak and prime rib had no flavor, the prime rib was over cooked, our appetizers were never served. We were served the wrong dessert. We brought out of state guests hoping for an awesome experience. On the positive side: Our martinis were great and the soup and salad were wonderful.
