Four of us went there last night for a birthday celebration. Reading the reviews I was Skeptical, but in years past we had always had a favorable dining experience. Last night is was excellent. The Hostess was engaging, and very polite without it seeming forced. Our Waiter was too. He was eager to please and very attentive. The drinks, appetizers, soups, salads and main courses were all excellent and we each ordered something different. Desert of so good we finished it all in spite of already reaching our limit of food intake. The only disappointment was they no longer have the amazing salad bar I loved so much. We have been coming to Charthouse for years and are Landry's customers, and had several events here before "covid" hit. We always had good food and service, but this time it was the worst. My husband made reservations weeks prior for my birthday and somehow when we got our table we ended up on the bar side of the restaurant. We've never been stuck there before especially for a birthday. Our server was nice but very inattentive. Ordered appetizers and hardly ever checked back on us until we had to track her down. Dinner was taking 1 1/2 hours and when we inquired they said "it's coming out in 2 minutes". 35 minutes later, we asked for the check since now it's over 2 hours to get our dinner. We never ate dinner (a first for us to ever leave a restaurant). I looked for management for 20 minutes by the foyer, and no one ever came by, no one ever apologized for the long delay and who knows why it would even take over 2 hours to get your food. Not even a hostess was standing in the foyer! This is such a huge change and such a disappointment for a birthday event. We won't be coming back, which is sad because we have been long time customers. read more

Unbelievably horrible food. How can you F up a turkey and mashed potatoes that bad? Cold crusted mashed potatoes, gummy cold stuffing and dry hard warm turkey and gravy. We had our wedding at Chart House Dana Point in September 2023 and it was all we wanted and more. Our wedding day turned out beautiful; can't control the weather but it more than cooperated by being bright and sunny. We opted for the lunch buyout which was such a great deal as you get the entire restaurant for your event. We had an outdoor ceremony and lunch reception in the Balboa Room which had the perfect configuration for us. The staff were all friendly and very efficient, getting appetizers & drinks out quickly during cocktail hour and for our reception lunch individual orders were taken and served to our guests so smoothly. Our guests were so impressed that each person got to order their meal day of like a normal restaurant experience and the quality of the food was so good, everyone was raving! Wedding/big event meals can sometimes be a huge miss but Chart House delivered and everything was delicious! The biggest thank you during this whole process goes to Melissa, who is the sales & event coordinator. She made everything super easy & was so accommodating, wanting us to truly have the best experience. From our very first walk through at Chart House we fell in love with the view & the food, but Melissa really made our decision easy to book as she was very professional but also made us feel like long term friends from the very beginning and later in all our future encounters. We couldn't have asked for anything more and we are so very thankful for Melissa and her team and all the hard work they put in for us. I hadn't been to the Chart House for along time and had an opportunity to visit. The venue in Dana Point is very nice offering a magnificent view of the harbor and ocean. I chose this restaurant/location and time (11:45 a.m.) for my birthday/Easter dining primarily for the view. I did indicate in my Open Table instruction that I would like a nice view seating; however the first seat that we were placed at was obstructed by the door to enter outside. They gladly moved us to a different seat but pretty much on the other side of the door with still had an obstructed view. Now the most outstanding thing about today's dinning was our waiter (Sorry I didn't get his name); however we were greeted with a pleasant Easter greeting and he was pretty attentive to us the entire time. Sadly enough there must've been a been a back up in the kitchen and literally it took about an hour for them to serve our main course after we had our starters; our waiter did inform us that it would be a while before we got our food which did help knowing but I can't say as much as I dine out that I'v ever experienced this long of a wait. Our waiter did make sure that we had plenty bread, water and the drink that I ordered. What I will say about the food is that it was cooked well and the value for their pre-fix menu was worth it. I'm not sure what it was but for some reason the chopped salad had an odd sour taste; like something didn't belong which was strange because I like pretty much everything in the salad. The desserts were delicious as well; we had Key Lime Pie and Molten Lava Chocolate Cake. As we were leaving it was getting pretty crowded so I'm glad we chose the time that we did. Lastly let me not forget the pleasant greeting that we received upon arrival from the valet guys and the ladies at the hostess desk that noted that I was celebrating my birthday and wished me a happy birthday. This was not my first time at this location and I also frequent the Redondo Beach location so hopefully if there is a next time; I will be able to sit in a seat with a view to experience the view of the ocean which is one of the best features of this restaurant. read more

Because we live near the location at Dana Point, we have tried it several times over the last six years. Also, we have visited the location at Redondo Beach. Melissa is the best restaurant coordinator you can ask for. She went above and beyond to make sure everything we needed was taken care of. The layout of the restaurant is very unique and the entrance has you walking down a winding staircase into a very small waiting area. We waited about 30 mins for our table and had a reservation. It's a smaller place so plan ahead or do not come during a very busy time of night ....if you're expecting a red carpet to be rolled out. I was pleasantly surprised that they had printed my name on the menu along with happy birthday for a custom touch. The wine menu is HUGE.. I had the teriyaki sirloin which was also a large portion. It was perfectly cooked and was seasoned so well. The potatoes were perfectly cooked. They also surprised us with an ice cream cake and candle to finish off the night. The restaurant is beautiful. The view from our table was amazing. The food was up to my expectations for fine dinning. It was Thanksgiving and the place was extremely busy. Because of this we did not receive the most expeditious service. Understandable. I think our dinner service took over 3 hours, but my patients can go a very long way when I have a great view, great company, and drink in my hand. We did not receive 5 star service that night, but I'm giving 5 stars to the wait staff that worked that night. Fall from grace! What an embarrassment! Unsure if it's a lack of ownership funding or a lack of management, either way, what a disaster. I'll list out issues instead of making this all drawn out. Hostess - rude, had a nervous tick and she flicked her nose. Right before she grabbed the menus she picked her ear = gross Bathroom - reeked of urine, wet pee soaked floors and the trash can was overflowing with a large pile of trash on the ground. Was sat at a table with a dirty table cloth, huge stain. Was sat at a wood topped table inside, instead - table had food on it. Had to be cleaned in front of us. Calamari - gross, soaked in a sauce that over powers everything - never seen calamari served this way. Waiter - left mid meal for 20min - nothing - empty beer and water sitting at the table and empty plates waiting for our main course. Not even noticed by a passing waiter. Lack of training and customer service! Food - Build your own charter or something - prime rib was super rare - knife couldn't cut it, was just mangling the meat. I told my wife - only positive is when I make steak egg burritos tomorrow I am guaranteed not to over cook the meat. Only highlight of our night was thinking how to make my next meal ‍. Condition - very very dated decor. The stair case - their market window - their first impression and the last - had bleach stains on the carpet running up and down each step. Come on! A caliber establishment like this can't even replace or die a 900sqft section of carpet? As we approached the top there was several discarded beverages all over the place. No one cleans? Hostess again! As we left - maybe 9:40 - the front hostess area was CLOSED! Dark and closed - I guess a good bye after an over priced meal is too much to give a guest. Sounds petty? Super cool structure, nice views of the marina. Prices are high, but to be expected. We got a reservation one night for dinner after we had walked around Laguna art walk. We were tired and hungry, so it was nice to get a table right in front of the window with a view of the marina. There's plenty of choice on the menu and over time they do change the menu to include some old favorites and some new items. I've been dining at Chart House for many years, and it's interesting to see the changes on their menu items. We ordered my favorite hummus trio which is very tasty and came in a large portion. I ordered a fish dish and it was huge, very hard to finish. It tasted ok, but was pretty pricey. Service was good, parking was easy with valet, and bathrooms are clean.
