OMG!!! Chart House owes us nothing!!! Our servers Jenny was a rockstar! She was personable, offered us suggestions and made our experience even better! Now, about the food! We both ordered salmon. I ordered mine grilled with olive oil and the hubby ordred the chart your course which included a salad (he got the salad bar) and dessert!!! Both were absolutely delicious! Hands down the best salmon we've ever eaten!!! It was moist and melted in our mouths like butter. The restaurant was super-duper busy so I'm glad we made a reservation ahead of time! It seemed like every table was occupied. The views were also amazing! Westwood whales, sea gulls, and sea lions!!! If you are in Cannery Row, go check this place out and...thank me later!!!

We did have high expectations with chart house and they fully disappointed. The views were awesome but that was about it. The halibut was good but nothing impressive. The steak was overly rare (deep purple in the middle) despite asking for it to be medium. Once we got our food we never saw our server again. We ate the halibut and half the prime rib (each outside) and continued to sit there waiting for the server, for about 20-30mins. We saw the manager talking to other tables nearby. Another server stopped and said it looked like we needed something and we mentioned we haven't seen our server since our food was delivered (and didn't see him at any other table) but we had ordered the lava cake and said if it's ready we will take it to go and if not then cancel the order and will take our bill. The other server walked to the manager talked to them. Then the other server brought us the bill (lava cake on it) and asked if anything else. We said the lava cake to go since it's on the bill. We literally got a "you already said that." We paid the bill, got the lava cake to go and left still without our server coming back. The manager also never checked on us despite us walking right past him when we left. Very disappointed in chart house service. The steak, it happens. But the service was one of the worst we have ever had and is inexcusable. By our server, the other server and the manager. Won't ever go back to this location as there are way better options around.

This is a famous seafood and steak house in Monterey . It is always fully booked . If you don't have a reservation, chances are that you have to go eat somewhere else . They have happy house Monday to Friday from 4-6 pm . The prime rid sliders is a hit ! We came here on dinner and the earliest reservation we could get was 7:45 pm on a Saturday! We ordered some cocktails and the 10 ounces prime rib cut ! Originally we were going to order some seafood and the prime ribs. However, we got prime ribs only because we love their prime rib so much and would rather stick to the steaks . The prime ribs were medium rare and I asked for more on the rare side . It was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. We had ordered different cocktails and they were great . Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and check on us often . Parking is hard in this area . We parked in the paid parking lot near by . There were only a few spots available even it was $15 paid parking. The restaurant has a club membership so that you can get priority access to reservations. This time we forget to bring the membership card so we got a 7:45 pm reservation. The restaurant was packed even this late . It has tables next to the pretty ocean and a nice menu for cocktails and wine . It was fun and nice dinning experience.

I went for my birthday on a Monday. Was greeted by a friendly hostess. She sat us at a beautiful window seat. Server was super friendly and wished me a happy birthday. Clam chowder was the best I've had. They brought me a nice birthday surprise so I recommend coming for a special occasion if you have any :-)

This place is a throw back and nostalgic. If you want new hot and popping this ain't it. If you like dive OG seafood and steak restaurant bars with an 80s vibe this is it. You'll probably run into my grandparents or yours as well but I do love old people!! We keep coming back for good reason. Oh the views are spectacular as well!! Great staff too.

We've been here a few times now for special occasions and you really can't beat the view at sunset. Service is usually pretty good, the warm bread is always yummy. My go to is coconut shrimp! Or any of their steaks. If you tell them you are celebrating something ahead of time they specialize the menu which is cute.

We've been coming to Chart house for years. I've been hesitant write a review because I don't want the secret out but Zane is amazing, food is top notch, view is sublime. If you want mediocre food, horrible service and less than pleasant views, do not go here. If you want to have the best meal in Monterey, drop all plans and go visit Chart House!

Back after 9 years another Birthday celebration Service: 4/-5 Food selection: filet mignon and shrimp scampi 3 half /5 salmon with rice, 4/5 Caesar salad 4/5 Cream spinach 2/5 The steak had a decent flavor, but I didn't like the cut too or texture It was kinda weird chewy ; the salmon and rice dish had a good flavor and the Caesar salad was good Nice presentation; the calamari was really good and I usually don't it calamari but this sweet and spicy sauce they put on it with all the add-ons was so good. I've have creamed spinach multiple places and this one just didn't do it for me. It was clumpy. It didn't have flavor. It just didn't give the cream spinach taste that Im used to. I wouldn't order this again. I also enjoyed a good lemon drop. Service: 4/5 service was good very attentive patient and professional Ambience; 10/10 I love the ambience. The chart House has one of the best views & ambience inside and out! If you're lucky to get a window seat, the decor is very nice and all of the staff seem to be very nice and attentive. Conclusion: when I am in the area, I will definitely stop by again. I love this place. The food is pretty good for the price point but the steaks definitely could use some work. They definitely need to choose a little better cut of meat but overall everything else was pretty good. I enjoyed my birthday dinner and also my cute little birthday dessert thank you chart House. See you again.

Had a great experience during happy hour. For happy hour, you sit at the bar or in the designated area of the restaurant. My family enjoyed their happy hour drinks. Delicious food, great views of the water. Their lot was full so we parked on the street, no issues. My favorites were the tacos, calamari, and tuna over rice.

Beautiful Views, But a Major Miss on the Food I've been to a number of Chart House locations over the years and have generally had great experiences, so I was excited to visit the Monterey spot. The location and views are, as expected, stunning. However, the experience with the food was unfortunately a real letdown, starting with the fresh raw oysters. While the oysters themselves seemed to be of fine quality, the shucking was honestly terrible. Several of them had fragments of shell and even some mud left on the edges. The adductor muscle wasn't released on the bottom of any of them, so I found myself having to awkwardly cut each one loose and flip it over myself before I could eat it. The most glaring issue was one oyster that had a hole completely smashed through the bottom of the shell, and it was full of shell fragments. It was completely inedible. I pointed this out to our server, and to their credit, they were very professional about it. They promptly brought out a single replacement oyster, and this one was perfect--beautifully shucked, muscle released, and properly turned. It showed me what should have been served in the first place. Moving on from the appetizers, the rest of the meal was also hit-or-miss. The salad bar was nice and had a good selection. Unfortunately, our main entrees didn't fare as well. My halibut was dry, and my boyfriend's prime rib was surprisingly tasteless. Ultimately, the best part of our dinner was the nice view. While the service recovery on the oyster was appreciated, it's disappointing to have such fundamental errors in preparation and execution from a restaurant like Chart House, from the appetizers through the main courses. This experience definitely fell short of the standards I've come to expect from the brand.

As many times as my husband and I have visited Monterey, this was the first time trying Chart House. It was my birthday so I really wanted something special. We showed up at our reserved time and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating for our meal requests. The place was pretty busy, but service was great. The decor is absolutely beautiful, filled with rich woods that gave it a very romantic cozy feel. Since I had already had seafood for lunch, I decided to try the prime rib and OMG, it was amazing. It was cooked at the perfect medium, and was so tender and flavorful. I added a loaded baked potato, which topped it all off. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were top notch and both delicious. They also provided a lovely birthday candle on my dessert! Did I mention my dessert was a lava cake? It was to die for and I ate it all even though I was so stuffed before it even came. I will definitely return and I highly recommend!

We decided to come here for a date night. We were seated by the water which was pretty and nice! The customer service was amazing and the explanation of the dishes was good. Our server/bartender and host was really attentive and cool. Unfortunately, the food was alright. It wasnt something to write back home about. I really liked the restaurant as a whole, but I wish the food was a little bit better. Especially for the price. I don't want to take away from the people who work there, I just wish the food was a little better.

We came back because we had come once prior years ago and remembered the food being good.. this time I would say it has changed. Can't say we'll re-visit, restaurant is pretty, great ocean views and staff was kind and friendly but food was ehh for the price Oysters 3/10 *we sent them back because they weren't clean well at all- lots of shells Halibut 8/10 *pretty good but nothing I'd go back for. Fish was cooked well though Filet Mignon 7/10 *lacked flavor Kids Salmon 3/10 *undercooked, no seasoning/flavor Kids Burger 7/10 *very small, very dry

Ask the Community - Chart House

Hi and the last question relative to your salad bar was in 2022 therefore, may I ask if you still have your salad bar offering at dinner and also perhaps at brunch too ? Thanks kindly and cheers !

Good Afternoon Marcia! We do still offer our salad bar with brunch and dinner services! Brunch is Saturday and Sunday starting at 11am! Give us a call and we would be happy to set you up a reservation!

    Do you have valet parking?

We have metered parking available for our guests.

    Is there a kid menu?

Yes, we do have kid's menu available at our restaurant.

Do you have Bernaise sauce available?

We do not have it readily available. If given notice ahead of time, the restaurant should be able to make it for you.

    Is there a parking lot?

Yes, it's across the street from the restaurant. Inside the same lot as the small art galleries.

Do you have gluten free options?

Well, they have lots of meat and fish, veggies, and a decent salad bar, which are gluten free. But I've never seen specifically gluten substitute bread alternatives

    Yes you can.

What is the "Farmer's Bar" on the menu? Is it the wonderful salad bar having returned with a new name, or is it something else? Thank you!

It's a salad bar with all types of meats and cheeses. Even caviar. That's what I had for dinner and I was a happy girl leaving.

Are you open 4 July 2023? Ana, your link to Open Table will not allow reservations on that day. Are you booked solid?

    Yes.

Do you still have a salad bar?

Yep! They call it a farmers bar; $27 as entree, $13 added to your meal (as of 9/2022).

CAN i get a gift card from you for a Christmas present.?

    Yes

Do you have to be vaccinated to dine?

If you are not vaccinated you must wear a mask when you are not at your table.

    Is this business dog friendly?

No since there is no outside seating.

Are you open ? Having calling several times today and no answer.

Closed on Saturdays, closes early on Friday afternoons at 3PM I believe.

Would you say this place is Kid Friendly? Would love to come here for dinner but have a fussy toddler and newborn baby as well in my group?

Although I know they welcome kids it's more suited for children that are 10 to 11years on up. I've been here several times, and I always noticed that the patrons are usually there for a special occasion, couples night out, etc. Generally the… Read more

We were seated by a window overlooking the ocean and got to watch the sunset while enjoying warm bread and a bottle of wine (which was an even better deal with their 25% off bottle promotion). My brother and boyfriend ordered the chicken parmesan, and it was outstanding. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the tomato sauce had a slight sweetness that made it incredibly flavorful. It was served with pasta on the side, which was just as delicious. My mom and I ordered the seafood linguine, and it was easily one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. The shrimp were buttery and tender, and the creamy pasta sauce was amazing. What really made the experience special was the staff. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and checked on us regularly throughout the meal. At the end of dinner, my mom and I were each given a rose, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. Everything about this restaurant--from the food to the view to the service--was wonderful. Compliments to the owner and the chef for creating such an amazing dining experience. We will absolutely be back the next time we're in Monterey,CA.

Called ahead before walking over with a party of 7 and was told the wait would be about 15 minutes…read more We arrived shortly after, only to be immediately met with a cold and dismissive attitude from the older bald gentleman with facial hair at the front. Before even greeting us, he abruptly said "no strollers allowed" in a very disrespectful tone without giving us a chance to respond. That policy is completely their right, and we would have respected it without issue. What bothered us was the way we were spoken to. I even said, "Oh, we can leave the stroller outside," and he immediately furled his brows in a way that clearly made it seem like he was hoping we would just leave instead. Well, he got what he wanted, we did leave. When I asked about the wait time, he suddenly told us it would be 1 hour and 15 minutes, even though I had literally just called and been told 15 minutes. When I mentioned that someone from the restaurant had told me 15 minutes over the phone, he responded by saying, "that's only for a party of 4," but I had literally told them over the phone that we had 7 people. Then he said it "must have been the wrong restaurant," but this is the number I called: 831-375-4604, which was in fact the correct number for the restaurant. I stepped aside afterward and called the restaurant again while standing nearby, and was then told 30 minutes. The inconsistency made no sense. What made the experience especially upsetting was how differently we felt we were treated compared to other customers around us. As a Muslim family, the interaction felt hostile and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. He also pointed to a sign about children crying or making loud noises being a distraction in a way that felt unnecessary and targeted. Again, family policies are one thing. Poor treatment is another. We came excited to try this place and left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and disappointed.

Meats are from Snake River Farms which is good to know. The fresh Pacific oysters from Fanny Bay, Canada were outstanding. So fresh and not fishy at all and plus the jalapeño onion mignonette was sweet and so good that I saved it for my steak lol I loved the cap of my prime rib but the middle was a bit chewy like it is with most prime rib. i was really glad that the steak dinners come with the mashed potatoes and stir fry spinach (also glad it wasn't creamed spinach for a change). He enjoyed his ribeye as well. The salts are really interesting and we were told to use it sparingly since the steaks were already seasoned intentionally. He ordered a glass of Emblem and I had Bee's Knees which was pretty syrupy sweet in the way that honey is with a hint of bitterness. We shared a mini key lime pie which was pretty good and exactly what you would expect. The free birthday cannoli is so fun and was presented with a sparkler but unfortunately my least favorite because of the odd tasting candied fruits in the cream. We were very excited because we love trying new places, and as we walked in and got the first impression of the restaurant we fell in love with the vibe. The section of the restaurant we sat in had two general areas separated by a set of pillars. There were high top tables across from the bar and then booth-tables on the other wall. We were greeted quickly and got set with drinks and an appetizer. The server was very kind during the whole experience. He seemed knowledgeable about their restaurant and, as a part of the "experience" they provided, displayed cuts of the meats that they have and are serving. This was a new experience for me and I appreciate the idea, however I did not necessarily need that experience for my night to go well (that may be a personal preference) We first got Prime Rib egg-rolls as an appetizer. When these came out my partner and I got so excited. They looked and smelled amazing. After we ate the first one we both became even more excited, because if the egg-rolls were this good then our steaks are going to be awesome. To note: this is not necessarily a budget friendly restaurant. We entered knowing that this was going to be a *special* meal (seeing how we are both in our mid twenties and we are doing fine we don't have a great deal of overflow to spend) and were ready to spend a bit extra on a nice special experience. My partner got a Beef Wellington cooked *chef recommended* Medium Rare ($68) that comes with mashed potatoes and spinach I got a Filet Mignon cooked medium ($74) that also comes with mashed potatoes and spinach. When the plates came out we both immediately cut into our food. As I cut mine open, it was noticeable pinker than I expect a medium steak to look, but I have no been to a fancy steak house and I don't know better. As I began eating and further cutting up my steak I noticed that it was more pink than I initially thought, and definitely more pink than a medium steak should be. I overall enjoy my steaks medium. To me this means a little light pink in the center. Maybe slightly darker if it's more juicy but when I eat a *pinker* steak it's usually a consistent pink all the way through. This steak had two layers of pink going towards the center I am a non confrontational person and find it difficult to correct things, so after my partner helped me express the mistake, the server was helpful and the manager came by to apologize and remake the steak. I was excited to try again. By the time the second steak got to the table, my partner was about halfway through his meal (I wasn't going to make him wait) so I was eager to finally taste this steak. I was devastated to see the dark pink center of this steak again. By this point I was ready to finish the night and go back to our hotel. I understand the servers and staff feeling bad for our situation and wanting to make it better. Our server came by and made sure we didn't want anything to go, anything for dessert, etc. but I honestly just wanted my check. They did send us home with the second steak cooked *again* and that did come out medium, however when we did leave I wanted something else to eat. This was a very strange and unusual experience. I was hoping for the best and don't think I will ever give it another try

But 1) this place came highly recommended from a few forum threads from about a year ago (argh) and 2) they charge a $25 cancellation fee for reservations. I'll start with the ok -- the pasta wasn't bad. But $35 for each is a bit ridiculous. Michelin guide spots in LA and SF don't charge that much. Not bad though, which is pretty much the only win for the night. The wine pours are truly embarrassing and the restaurant should be ashamed of them. I haven't seen such a small, IKEA sized glass since I was in college. The worst part is that patrons ordering a bottle of wine had the normal wine glasses you expect. So they have those glasses, they just choose to nickel and dime those paying by glass. That alone is just such bad form. The service of course was the atrocious cherry on top. Our server wasn't egregiously awful so I won't name him... but he forgot multiple parts of our order, brought a drink out after we'd finished our meals (because it took so long), and gave us the wrong receipt at the end. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables in our section. Yikes. I'm guessing this place was a gem and a hot spot a while ago, but since then, people moved on. In the meantime, I have a feeling they're struggling because of how much they nickel and dime their few existing patrons. It's a sinking ship and I hope management rights it... But for now, I'm sure you can do better for your money.

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They're seared with duck fat which gives it a great buttery taste, allowing you to taste the fatty flavor on cuts of meat that aren't the most fatty. The fries that go with each steak dish are also really good and go with the steaks. We had the cowgirl ribeye and spinellis steak. They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.

And from the moment we stepped foot into the building, we were transported to a new place. We let them know we were here for our reservation, we were seated promptly. There were multiple managers on the floor, the one that sat us, told my husband happy birthday. That was already such a nice start to the evening. Our busser was Enrique, he was so friendly, kind and quick with making sure we had water and cheesy bread. The sommelier came by, didn't catch his name but he was also so friendly and helpful. We ordered a bottle of a red wine local to the area. Our server was named Christian, he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and lots of great recommendations! We both ordered a cup of soup, one cup of clam chowder and one cup of abalone bisque (one of the best soups I've ever had). As well as the oysters which were great. For our entrees, my husband ordered the chilean sea bass. Which he loved! I ordered the NY steak, cooked medium rare. Absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious. We received a slice of carrot cake for my husband's birthday, timed perfectly at the end of our dinner with a candle in it for us to celebrate and quietly sing together. Just the two of us. This was, without a doubt, one of the best dinners we've ever enjoyed together. From the attentive service and inviting ambiance to the exceptional food, every aspect of the evening was flawless. We will 100% be back again. Thank you for this memory.

Sardine Factory pays attention to detail (even to the point of which way the dishes, silverware are facing). The food is the best you can get from anywhere in the World, and presented beautifully both in the arrangement of food and presentation. Our Gang of Bay Area Eaters follows "MPep" (the fiercest Food Critic ever). There's a large group of us that frequent Sardine Factory. We sometimes eat at Sardine as much as 4 times a week. This last week, my friend (I'll just call her "M-Pep" because a reincarnated chicken that was originally Austin's came back and we call her "eMily Pepper" so "MPep" for short). I digress. So my friend whom chicken MPep was named after has been at Sardine 3 times this week. Oh, Austin and his family and friends eat at Sardine all the time. It was Aus and "Sis" that introduced MPep to Sardine. There's generally about 2 - 4 people / friends that start out for Sardine from the San Jose area. We rendezvous in the Monterey general area and end up at Sardine in a group from 2 - 9 people. Mpep is the big fan here and will literally throw a fit if we don't go to Sardine. Every good exam grade, birthday, reward for cleaning the house and cars - "What reward do you want?" "Sardine!" She says. So every trip to Sardine can be a 3 - 4 hour one way trip to Monterey, with getting back to the house as late as 1 - 2 am. It's a day trip for sure, but honestly, we're just both impressed and honestly somewhat puzzled that she's apparently - with her young heart - fallen for this Factory. We'll try to add and incorporate more names, but one Sardine Family we want to thank for sure is the General Manager Jimmy Oh. We watch him go from table to table, eager to learn about every guest, and making sure every customer and table is very happy with their experience. I've been in the restaurant and service industry, and Jimmy Oh is ... someone like him is nearly impossible to get on staff or management. So I hope he's recognized for putting an amazing image for Sardine. (Well, we found out upon creating this review that Jimmy is the General Manager. He has all the Professional Hallmarks of a very good GM, but approachable and grateful for feedback in a way that many or even most GM's somehow lose). As you can probably guess from this very review, we're a mix of unusual special personalities. Most of us have physical disabilities, some are very elderly, and at least two in our group have traumatic brain injuries either from injuries related to severe heart issues and one had severe injuries from getting hit by another driver / car under the influence. We need help getting to and at our tables. We often keep repeating things or asking about a dish over and over. The staff has always been welcoming and patient to our special needs. Mpep is young and instead of being treated - brushed aside for being "a kid" - she is allowed to ask about all the dishes. This has led to a systematic "log" she makes about all the dishes and she is intentionally going from dish to dish to try everything at Sardine. I have seen at other establishments where she was even asked to leave. She simply has a special personality (started college at 11 years old) - so I've never been angry at other establishments misunderstanding her or even kicking her out. But at Sardine, she's treated like family and I've never seen anyone receive her with anything but joy and cheer that she's come back "again." I'll try to add photos within the next day or two. We have an elderly grandma in our group and given her recent ER stay, we can't be sure how long she'll be around. But we're grateful for the staff and waiters being so patient with her requests and repeated questions. It's just good to have "a place" we know we can be treated by family and have food that's simply amazing and presented artistically with such a sincere desire for the guests to love this experience.
