First visit and we can see why they are ranked #1 for CT Breweries!! The owners are the cutest flower child folk who were very helpful and friendly. Liz, a brewery specialist was our server and let me try the only available CT white wine available on this visit. The wine wasn't special but good. Johnny really enjoyed their beers and he tried the Gose which is a tart cherry that he really enjoyed. On this visit they were supporting a women's and children's shelter which was nice. Best way to celebrate another trip around the sun is with a Kolsch!

This is our home away from home. No matter the night, we are always among friends drinking some of the best local brews in the country. Scott and Michelle bring in fun events and the local area bands. No matter who is pouring at the taps, we always have a great evening and love the beers. Octoberfest is always special. Whether you like Oktobeerfest, Dunkel, Helles or Kolsch, you will love every sip! Come hang out and enjoy with us.

Really nice assortment of beers. I visited not long before Christmas so there were a fair number of seasonal winter options, and I went with those. That said, my parents aren't as adventurous, so they went with the staples (mostly lagers). That we were all able to find something good is a testament to their variety. I really liked that the owners were behind the bar. That really seemed to add to the vibe, and they were very attentive. The tap room isn't fancy but doesn't need to be. Just a regular family-friendly vibe.

Tried majority of their beers and they are all wonderful, especially for people who like malty options. They have a couple IPAs and I enjoyed those as well. Owners are extremely delightful and attentive - they don't serve food but they gave us free cookies! Love this place :-)

Great beer and nice staff! Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Scott and Michelle, the older couple who run the place, were very welcoming. Scott really knows his beer. Had the doublebock (doppelbock), and it was a roasty, malt-forward example of perfection. We also got a growler of a hazy East Coast IPA to take home with us. Ambiance: modern, open, inviting industrial Overall cleanliness: above average Overall service: excellent Nice outside seating area. Weekends include live music, mainly classic rock cover songs.

Charter oak was a nice experience and I'll probably come back, but it was about average as far as local brewery's go. The ambiance was very nice, they have a main tap room and then they have seats out near the tanks. They also have live music which is awesome. The decor is nice and the vibe is chill. The people are very nice, prices are good, and they also had board games which is a plus! The only downside was the beer, not all the beer but some of it. The English Ales and the IPAs were awesome and I was very happy with them, but the lagers and other ales had a skunky taste. Nothing about this place was "bad", but there are better beers in the area. I'll give them one thing though, the presentation of the flight was adorable! They had the beers labeled on little beer capa Overall I'd come back, but wouldn't be my first choice.

I can't say enough good things about this brewery! We were visiting for a wedding and found this through Yelp. The employees are so kind - making suggestions based on what we liked, giving us samples of other beers and even giving us complimentary homemade zucchini bread! The beer was delicious, the indoor space is cozy (with lots of board games) and they have a really nice outdoor space as well. If you're not a beer drinker, they have cider & wine options as well. Highly recommend!

I'm giving this place 5 starts because they have great service and great beer! The staff deserves praise for their kindness. This place is very underrated.

But with the Progeny at camp and the pup walked to somnolence, the Pardner and I finally had a chance to check this place out. Pros: - There's often live music -- without a cover! We saw the talented Eran Troy Danner perform. - The house-brewed beers are varied and delicious. We tried the Amarillo Sky Double IPA, Sacred Grounds Coffee Porter, and the Pirates and Parrots Island Lager, made in three very distinct styles. The Amarillo Sky reminded me of Lawson's Sip o' Sunshine, though a bit less hoppy. Pirates and Parrots would be a perfect session beer. It's fantastically refreshing in the heat. I have to wonder whether the Sacred Grounds Coffee Porter has anything to do with the excellent Sacred Grounds Coffee in Sherman, CT -- but either way, it's very tasty. - The bathrooms are clean!!! They're probably the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in a drinking establishment of any kind in the US. - The staff are really nice and friendly, affirmatively helpful. - There's a nice looking food menu. It was a little early for dinner, for us, but we'd love to head back... someday when we are again sans Progeny. - There is an air conditioned indoor space one can retreat to if it's really, really hot out. But the expansive outdoor area out back is where most of the action seems to be when weather permits. Cons: - No dogs allowed - No humans allowed under 21 I am tempted to ding a star because those are big fat cons for us. But... given those delicious beers, the clean bathrooms, the great live music... I can't. This place is sweet.

Housatonic River Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in New Milford, Connecticut in September…read more2018. It was founded by brewer Dave Littlefield. With brewery experience dating back to the 1980s, Littlefield had owned and operated Harbor Lights Brewing Company in Dana Point, California during the 1990s. A couple of non-brewery jobs later, Littlefield had relocated to Connecticut and looked to open a new brewery. He purchased a 7-acre property along the banks of the Housatonic River in New Milford. In addition to brewing good beer, Littlefield's goal was to create a venue that the community would appreciate and enjoy. The brewery features a large rustic taproom, a stage for live musical acts to perform, and a large seasonal beer garden under a pavilion. In addition to the housemade beer, HRB also serves wine, cider, craft cocktails, and a large menu of delicious food from their in-house kitchen. In May 2024, Littlefield purchased the former Quirk Works Brewing & Blendery space in Danbury for HRB to use as a secondary production facility. I recently visited Housatonic River Brewing for the first time. I had heard that they host a lot of live music acts and I purchased a ticket to see NYC-based Rush tribute band "Moving Pictures". I'm a HUGE Rush fan, so I was really excited to see the group perform. I arrived over an hour before the show started and grabbed a table close to the stage. There was a modest crowd when I first arrived, but the whole taproom was packed by the time the show started. After looking over the menu, I started off with a plate of "Smoked Macaroni & Cheese" (smoked bacon jalapeño macaroni & cheese) and "Cornbread" (w/ cinnamon honey butter). Afterwards, I moved onto a "Gourmet Brisket Grilled Cheese" (three cheeses between perfectly grilled rustic sourdough toast w/ bacon & jalapeños & fries). Everything was fantastic, especially that heavenly grilled cheese! Throughout my visit, I enjoyed pours of "Uncle Bock" (Doppelbock), "Less Gentle On My Mind" (Double New England IPA), and "Remedy" (Imperial Stout). They were all good, especially the latter two. Moving Pictures also gave an excellent performance to the very energetic crowd. Overall, I had quite an enjoyable evening and I hope to return to HRB!

When we arrived around 330 on a Saturday afternoon the main indoor area was already packed. We were a bit disappointed because the band sounded great. We ended up sitting in the enclosed outdoor space with our group of 4 adults. Despite the cold temperature outside and the heavy rain, we were cozy and warm until we left around 630 PM. Our group tried many of the beers on the menu. Counting the days was my favorite of the beers that I tried and Dunkelweiss was a close second ! I loved all the fun beer names. We ordered the giant pretzels to share while we casually enjoyed our beers. We ended up ordering the cheese pizza and buffalo chicken pizza. The buff chix pizza was very salty. I'd personally pass on that one on our next visit. Overall great visit and will return when in the area !
