About 5 years ago, my fam moved to LV. We had sold our house, had a big bank check to deposit. We wanted a credit union, but they would not take us as we did not yet have utility bills to prove residence (we were in process of buying a home, but that "process" did not count). We were not going to go to Chase Bank, thinking it too snooty for us, but, in desperation, we wheeled our two tiny grandchildren, in this 115 degree LV heat, into a small Chase bank where we found the most helpful and accommodating manager ever!. She set us up and I thought I was a Chase person for ever. But 5 years later, we had moved to Alameda and after we had been banking at this south shore branch for 5 years, they refused us a credit card, WHICH THEY OFFERED, AND WHICH WE DID NOT REQUEST, WE "ACCEPTED" THEIR OFFER, AFTER THEY OFFERED! In the end Chase HQ did not approve us for their "offer" even though our credit rating was around 825! A year later we went to US Bank, got setup quickly and easily and got a credit card for $25k limit. We are the same people, same situation, nothing changed. Go figure! AND, our US Bank is in a better part of Alameda, no stickups there, yet there have been pistol stickups of ATM users of that very "refusnik" Chase Branch. So, I am down on Chase. read more

I never use this branch anymore. I surrendered my safe deposit box which I inherited. I had to go back to the branch and discuss a living trust. The Rep tried to sell me their financial advisor services.....yeah no thanks. My memory of this bank will always be when they had a "bank run" and I saw 20-30 people in line trying to get their money out. read more

Very disappointed with this Chase bank branch. Seems like they do not care about their clients. We wanted to open new bank accounts (more business for them) but was turned away despite there being three bankers available to do the job. One banker said that he can't do it though he wasn't with any clients and was just there. While two other bankers were just chatting in the office and also weren't open to entertaining us wanting to open bank accounts. So, having experienced such, we left to go to another Chase branch, close down other existing services at this branch, and wish this branch a goodbye for being so low on their customer service. read more

I don't know why this bank only has 2.5 stars, I've used the notary service twice in the past 2 months and have been impressed with the service. I was able to get an appointment within 24 hours of calling both times and even when I got stuck in traffic and was running late, they waited for me. They are always friendly and make it easy to get my business done. Would definitely recommend this bank! read more

Parking is easy with its own parking lot next to the bank as well as the spaces in the shopping center lot. Regardless which Chase bank I am dealing with, I have a very long history with the bank - 50+ years - when it was called First Savings of California (1960). Then the name changes started occurring in the 70's - Great Western Savings & Loan, Great Western Bank, Washington Mutual (WaMu) and finally, Chase. I liked it when it was called Great Western and WaMu. This branch is okay. The tellers are friendly and nice, as in other branches of Chase that I deal with (3rd & Market, 8th & Market, Van Ness & McAllister - all in SF, and the Marina Village Branch - Alameda). Since I am from the "old school", I do my banking transactions the old fashioned way - a visit to the branch, deposits and withdrawals in person, and occasionally withdrawals from the ATM machines. No matter how quick or slow the lines move, the only peeve I have is there's someone sitting in the cubicle in this bank, trying to convince me to do online banking. No, I am not interested in doing online banking...that's another password that I have to remember. Then the person gives me a reason to do online banking...you can always look to see your daily transactions and balance on the website. I use a check register for all my transactions and my balance on my checking account matches up to the very penny what the bank shows on their computer for these past ten years. Here's another reason the person gave me...it's safe and secure. Well, I responded by asking what kind of guarantee do I have if the website is hacked into and the accounts are compromised. Uh, no response from her...end of conversation. BTW, this branch is not as bad as the one at 270 E. 18th Street in Oakland. I went there with my sister and mom. The people at that bank tried to convince my mom to open a checking account. My mom is 92 years old, and what is she going to do with a checking account? Duh..uh. Don't go here if you value your time or your data privacy... True story : I'm visiting my parents and my father asks, "Do you have time to go to the bank to add your brother to the safe deposit box?". It appears that Chase requires that my father, my mother and myself all be present to add my brother's name to the safe deposit box. Inconvenient, but not a problem. I look at my watch and figure it shouldn't take longer than 40 minutes, at which point I would need to take my son to his first baseball practice, so I say, "sure". So off we go, and as expected, there was a small line. After about 10 minutes, we get served... I'm thinking, "Cool, I just need to show some ID, tell them I approve my brother having access to the safe deposit box and off I go". I was sooooooooooo wrong. I ask the Chase employee if she can process me first as I am the only one in the group that has an appointment afterwards. She says she needs to process my brother first. I'm thinking, "OK, I can wait a few minutes for that". I was soooooooooooo wrong. She starts off asking my brother for his driver's license and where he lives, etc... questions I expect. Then she starts asking about his Social Security Number, how much he makes, what his wife's name is and how much she makes, does he own his own home, what is his total net worth, show her at least one of his credit cards, etc... I step in and ask, "Why are you asking these questions simply to add my brother to the safe deposit box? I'm concerned over data privacy here". This Chase employee matter of factly responds, "whatever". My brother caught on and started to give bogus responses. After 20 or so minutes, the inquisition completes and I'm thinking, "OK, I can show her my ID and leave soon". I was sooooooooooo wrong. The Chase employee turns to my father and starts to ask him questions. Again, I interject and ask if I can go next as I need to take my son to his baseball practice. The Chase employee responds, "I have to go in a specific order, your father is next and I can't change that". So I cross my fingers that I'm next in the interrogation line. About 5-10 minutes later, she finishes with my father and I'm thinking to myself, "pleeeeeeease let me be next". I wasn't. After questioning my mother for another 5 or so minutes, the Chase employee turns to me and says, "You are next now, can you show me your driver's license and a credit card"? I was beaten down and sheepishly say, "OK", expecting to be interogated like the rest. But after looking at my driver's license and credit card, she types something in her computer and simply says, "You can go now. You aren't needed for the rest of this process". I was surprised, actually shocked, but I wasn't going look a gift horse in the mouth so I jetted out of there. Ultimately, my son's baseball practice started late, so it turned out it was OK for me to be late. Must have been karma. read more

The lines here seem to be a touch longer than at other branches. Oddly enough I'm a person who likes self check out at grocery stores (I believe it is more direct and efficient - especially after you learn the "spiel"). This branch is unique because you can make deposits for checks and cash with the robot machines. My first time using the robots I was in the long line to see a teller to make a deposit for my $45 jury duty check and some cash. I was then asked if I needed to make a simple deposit by a manager or greeter and she walked me through the whole process. Since this time I've walked in and used the robots multiple times. read more

Lines are always way too long. Staff is friendly and courteous. Don't ever be in a rush to see a teller. If you need an ATM they have 5. Only Two tellers ever open. They closed off the other teller stations and put in machines no one ever uses. Staff is great but I always feel sorry for them because they are spread too thin. read more

This branch is poorly managed and the bankers are not properly trained. Chase closed my account for "suspected fraud" after waiting hours on customer service I was told to go into a chase branch. This branch told me there was nothing they could do and to call customer service again. Call again, another hour on hold, Customer service specifically told me the branch should have called them when I was there in person and that I need to go back in. I go back, trying to fix the problem, and the manager tells me there won't be a banker available for 3 hours. I told him if I can't see someone right away to fix THEIR mistake I would be closing all my chase accounts. He did not care at all. I will never use chase again and will be closing all my accounts. This branch, and specifically the manager that was on duty the morning of 06/26, ruined chase for me forever. Now I get to wait 7-10 days for chase to send me a check with my money. This Chase has been my bank for the past 7 years. They have excellent customer service and very good benefits for small businesses. I've had bank accounts with Bank of America and Wells Fargo in the past. None of them treat their customer as well as Chase. That's why I no longer bank with them. BoA gotta be the worst. Their Chase Ink credit card is really good. It gives cash back, 24h customer service and will side with you if there is a dispute with a vendor. A lot of people complain about the long line. This is true during the rush hours of 11 to 1, and 3 to 5 pm. But if you go early like when they just open at 9 am, or late around closing time then the wait is not an issue. If you need something done right, find a banker named Linh Truong. She's very patient, gentle and will go lengths to make sure your needs are met. read more

Exact same complaint as Cathy J.... I'd give it zero stars if it was an option. I was a long time WaMu customer and rolled into Chase. I have my mortgage, checking, savings and credit card there. I was offered by Chase via mail, Fed Ex and several phone calls a refinance rate of 4.75% with an application/other fees of $500 that would be rolled into the loan- no closing costs, no points, no home appraisal, easy peasy. Ok, sounds good. On the second phone call with the worst loan officer ever, KEVIN, this offer jumped to a fee of $1,800 which included the application fee of $400. Ok.... what happened to the $500 offer? KEVIN, the horrible loan officer, could not really explain. Ok, well the deal was still pretty good for our situation so we'll still proceed. I was charged via credit card $400 for the application fee (wait, I was told this was all rolled into the loan, but no, "as to not discriminate against all applicants we have to charge you right up front".) Ok..... Right after getting verbal approval that the loan was approved from KEVIN the horrible loan officer, his next sentence was "unfortunately your credit score was not as high as expected. You are a 713 and we like to see 720. So, we'll need to charge you 3/4 of a point in addition to the $1,800. At this point, I told him I'd call him back. I immediately called my credit care company (sadly Chase) and found out the $400 had not been charged yet. I then cancelled my card on the spot since I knew I'd not be able to get my money back from KEVIN the horrible loan officer. Never, ever in our conversations did he mention what level credit score I needed to be at and how it would affect the cost. Since Chase pursued me for the the refinance, plus 3 years of on-time payments of my mortgage with Chase, I figured all was good. I was very, very frustrated. As it stands now, I am opening a new account elsewhere and removing my checking and savings with Chase. I'll be looking to refinace elsewhere this week. Other reasons KEVIN was horrible (very similar to Cathy J. review): Pulled up another persons account with the same first name but different last name and read me her Social Security number. He got my last name mixed up with another name again. He witheld information that was important to my deciding on a refinance. He flat out lied and used the classic bait and switch. After Wells Fargo told me a couple years ago that I was a "high risk customer", I switched to WaMu. The company as a whole has been great. When I first started, they were REALLY big on customer service and the human connection. Now, they are just really big. Still, I've had no problems with them and they give me free checking. I love this branch and it's the only location I would go to. They're fast, they're friendly and parking is NEVER an issue. This branch is conveniently located in the South Shore Shopping Center (or Alameda Towne Centre as it is now called) where there is ample parking spaces and I can get all of my errands done without having to move my car! How sweet is that?? :) I don't know what it is, but this specific location seem to house the friendliest tellers in all of America. (Opinion based on my 5+ years of regularly frequenting this branch) Not only are they extremely helpful, but they're actually genuinely friendly. I have had (and still do) accounts at various banking institutions ranging from BofA, Wells Fargo, Patelco (formerly Cal State 9 Credit Union - Oh, how I've missed you, Cal State 9!!) and ING, but this branch offers the best of the best in terms of customer service I have ever received from any, by far! It must be the fact that they're minutes away from the beach?!?! Unlike their competitors, they don't try to "sell" you on opening new accounts or credit cards. Instead of trying to get me to open a new account, I'd rather have you focus on my current account, thank you very much... And unlike their competitors, they don't charge you an arm and a leg for banking either! Why should I have to pay (any) fees to bank with you when you're earning interest from my money?!?! I think not! Free cashier's checks, free standard checks if you want them (but who writes checks anymore anyway??), free & unlimited in-branch transactions, free safe deposit box rentals and I earn interest on my checking accounts! That's why I'm sticking with Chase...no banking fees period. For that, you get an extra star! But wait, you're already maxed out on stars in my book! LOL! Please get rid of the enhanced ATMs. Horrible idea. The girl I had as a teller was great. Please hire more people to work, instead of investing in enhanced ATMs. These teller robots are blocking your path from talking with a real life human. The machine is similar in height with a human, and the screen saver screen has the face of a person. This is creepy. Why would anyone drive to a bank to talk to a banking robot. I can bank online, on my phone, and at any ATM location. When I go in person to a bank, I want to bank with a person. read more

3.3 stars!! It's been nearly 5-6 years since I've ordered checks.. who writes checks anyways? Ok, I still do.. maybe a few each year, for all other things there's online payments right? After my deposit I wanted to order some checks but I didn't need 150-200 checks, which would last another 20+ years... anyways, they told me they can print me some chase checks right now.. up to 18 checks each time: 3 cks per sheet, up to 6 sheets, and $2 per sheets. Been a customer since the Great Western days in the 70s. Bank has gone through so many name changes since then. I have been coming to this branch since the 80s. A long time customer with numerous accounts from checking to savings to CDs and investments. Got to know the staff through the years with some staying and others leaving. Wow, should've read the reviews before coming here. Anyways, here's the story. Came to the branch to open a checking account and was told about private client services. I didn't ask for it but the banker was sharing how great it was so it piqued my interest. The VP of PCS also came in and was enthusiastic about setting up a meeting to go over the benefits. A day before the 1st meeting I had to cancel due to computer issues but rescheduled for a 2nd meeting. The night before the 2nd meeting I received an email cancelling the meeting. No explanation, no reschedule. I called after a week to talk with the VP and left a msg but no response. Needless to say I'm not impressed by the professionalism shown by the employees. If this is how i'm treated before I put any money there, I'm scared to see how I'll be treated once I do. Maybe there are just too many other wealthy individuals opening up PCS accounts. read more

I have been visiting the South Shore Chase branch since it is now closer to me than the Marina Village branch. I find the South Shore staff always generically friendly. This branch seems to always have long lines that are slower moving. Plus the set-up is a bit awkward. Additionally parking here is always painful. There is one rock star at this branch that comes highly recommend. This is Vicky N.. Vicky has provided me and my hubby with outstanding customer service- on a few different occasions. She is very personable, friendly and helpful. Every visit she has exceeded my expectations. So if you need any services in addition to the standard withdrawals or deposits: this is who you want to talk to. She is no short of fantastic!! Thanks Vicky. Overall I give this location 3 stars.
