I am seriously considering taking my business elsewhere. Not only did they close their branches near me, or replaced the one most accessible by my work with a kiosk with a virtual teller, they also provide the slowest service out of all financial institutions that I've visited. I prefer to do everything online, but when I do need to visit a branch, I now have to drive out of my way. When I get there, it shouldn't take me more than half hour of waiting to talk to your staff. They only have 2 people helping other customers the entire time I'm waiting, as the line of people waiting just grows. A friend who's not comfortable doing deposits thru ATM goes in and it takes at least 5 minutes to complete that transaction?!? read more

I have been with this credit union for about 15 years. Sophia the branch manager assisted with opening my account for me and my kids who are adult aged now. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional and is able to answer all my financial questions and concerns. Banks are always hard to trust but Sophia always eases my mind . To quote that famous Rap Group " They are a bunch of races simple and plain mother **** them John Wayne". I want there one day to get some money out of my account and to check the balance before I went to go make a purchase. After I walked away from the ATM machine I was looking at my reciept, forgot I left my card in the machine. I came back to resolve the matter. They asked me if I was a customer at the Bank. I said no, I was informed that they would mail me my card. And then two I should contact my bank in order to resolve these situation even though I use their ATM machine. The teller gave me a whole bunch of BS, and talked to me like I was dumb. I think this is because I was Black. They could've showed a little bit of Respect. What their policy was and maybe I could've came back and picked up my card later if they didn't have time then. However they gave me a whole bunch of Malarkey and told me that wouldn't get my card and there was no way that I could get it out of there machine. I really like 1st United, usually they provide great service and a safe atmosphere when you enter their locations. They overhauled their app in recent years which was a huge plus and I find it pretty easy to navigate. The direct deposit works seamlessly within the app and I've had no issues. My only gripe is that I wish they would update their logo and card design. The cartoonish font for "1st" is not only terribly dated but undercuts how professional this organization is. A simple, modern and clean font would do wonders as would changing the debit card design to look more like the credit card. read more

This post is late, but I had to take the time to post how absolutely wonderful Sophia's customer service was to me. She went over and beyond to ensure my customer experience was exceptional. My initial perception of the credit union was not favorable. Then I had an opportunity to meet several members of 1st United executive team members at my job through a HR benefit fair and I told them about my perception and Sophia requested my information and promised she would follow-up, and follow-up she did. My experience is less/lower fees for financial services and better interest rate on checking and savings accounts. I recommend 1st United Credit Union. I love my credit union but it's in another city. When my kids have graduated high school, I've taken each of them to 1st United so they can work with a local branch. Two times, with 2 different kids, we've gone through an identical process: 1. Apply online. 2. Be notified that they couldn't process the online application because of a problem with the kid's paperwork (for example: wishing to use a school ID because the local DMV and passport offices had been closed due to COVID), and that we'd need to make an appointment to visit in person. 3. Make an appointment. Take time off from work to take the kid to it. 4. Be notified that sorry, the application can't be completed because of the same exact paperwork problem, so the in-person appointment accomplished nothing. Alright, fine, I understand that credit unions are regulated and they have rules they need to follow, but that could have been communicated in an email rather than dragging us across town to say the same thing in person. I'm frustrated because I don't feel like our time was respected. "Sorry, we'd like to help you as soon as you can make it to the DMV" would have been perfectly understandable and a better use of an afternoon. read more

I needed a check register booklet for my checking account. Financial Benefits Credit Union was not opened today and I did not want to go to Golden 1 in Oakland. I had business to take care at Alameda Landing at the Sprint Store; thus, a visit to this credit union to get a check register. First United Credit Union was opened early this afternoon. I entered and had to wait for a blue light to shine by the door before I could enter. I don't know too many financial institutions who have this type of entry, except for Chase Bank on E. 18th Street in Oakland. All the tellers were busy at the time with other customers. The bank manager assisted me. I needed to withdraw money from my checking account and a check register booklet. I don't have much dealings with this credit union. However, my husband does as he has a savings account with one of their branches. The bank manager was friendly and very helpful. I was having problems with one of the ATM machines located inside. The machine did not register my PIN and I could not continue my transaction. She came over and escorted me to another ATM machine where I was able to do the withdrawal. Service was friendly and quick. I like the fact that the ATM machines here will dispense not only $20 bills, but also $5.00 bills. This credit union is highly secured. I don't have to worry about the indoor ATM machines being tampered with by suspicious characters. read more

I've been a member here for an extremely long time. The staff & branch manager are way cool and I've seen them take care of the elderly that come, including my mom. Good rates but they don't have an HSA or 401(k) for me to roll over. I collect very good quarterlys off of my checking account. I've been to a few other banks recently and this by far felt the most COVID safe. I like that it's a very controlled entry and feels very clean inside. They followed protocols well and it was very orderly. On another note, I've personally received a phone call from the branch in regards to my account and I appreciated it very much. That one call saved me money, irritation and trouble and was felt so above and beyond what you get at a "big bank." In contrast with "No C," I too have gotten phone calls from 1st United - the first one was about six months back. Someone had gotten hold of my credit card number and was trying to put $500 at a time into their "foundation" in So Cal. The rep on the other end of 855-887-3942 was very helpful - she got back my money, shut down the card, and mailed me a new one. And just today, I got that 855-887-3942 phone call again; this time, the expense was legit. I appreciate having a bank and a banking system that is watching my back. I've been a 1st United customer for almost 40 years - they (and my Mom) helped me buy my first and second cars...and then to buy my third/fourth/fifth cars, and have been very helpful keeping my money straight. Yes, because of my mortgage and my spouse, I have another account with a big bank (rhymes with Smells Cargo), but I do the vast majority of my personal banking with 1st United. Nightmare! Only one word for this place RUN! I would give 0 stars but yelp won't let me. I've been banking here for 5 years. And it has been a nightmare all the way. Once I close on my home I am buying, I'm closing my account ASAP! Usually, this bank will block me from my own ATM, but somehow others will gain unlawful access. They will block you from any of your accounts if the bank feels like you haven't been using your account often enough. 1st United will randomly stop sending you your statements even if you beg! I have been begging since 2014, for 1st United Credit Union to send me my bank statement. Still to date NO BANK STATEMENT! So if you want a bank to withhold your information about your account, block you from using your ATM, and freeze your accounts without your knowledge and NEVER send your statements, This is the bank for you. Awesome new location in a much updated area with lots of new tech toys inside. Also the all glass wall are a nice touch as well as the all glass offices inside. Although this is a much more spacious office than its predecessor, the one CSR Desk for the Teller is kinda beguiling as if it would not seem to get busy. Anyways as a hella loooonnnnggggg time member, as with any C. U. they're not as rampant as BIG banks (even though I am member at one of those) rates and services are always much much better than those that aren't. ie: personal loans, auto loans, credit APR's, amongst a few. You can always get the same services you would need at a BIG Bank also at a C. U. Just a couple of my pennies... :-0 read more

Loans are nice, but that's about it. Lines are long with only 1 "teller" and when I came 6/30 to withdraw money from savings, they decided to close at 3pm. I don't have access to my money now, and the bills will be paid late. Thanks 1st USCU! I'll be closing my account tomorrow (if you're open!!!!)
