There is no option for zero stars....first off let me make known I've never physically been to this doctors office and will never do so nor recommend this establishment. I paid a deposit of $75 to hold an appointment to add filler under my eyes to give them a refreshed look. The doctors office canceled my appointment twice because of Covid and had no date of expectation to open. I ended up going to another office and am happy with the results. I called Dr. Chase's office to get a refund of the deposit and they said no and I had to buy a product. Honestly what kind of business is this? Shady and unprofessional. I've never been to this office and never will at this point. What is the real issue here, I did no wrong however I am being treated as if I didn't give them any money at all. Nurse Emily is amazing. I was here for lip fillers. I have it done in the past from another place, but my nurse is out for surgery for a whole month and I couldn't wait. Growing up I had your typical asian monolid problem. Maybe not as dramatic as others..sometimes I had my good days where one lid would appear and other days, I'd look straight out tired. I did everything that I could to make my eyes appear "larger" and "round"-heavy eyeliner, dramatic eye make-up, circle lenses, even tried the double eyelid tape... but once all that came off, I was left again with that dreaded monolid. I wasn't sure where to go, what reviews to trust, or who was the best doctor for this problem. I admit, I had Dr. Chase Lay bookmarked on Yelp for awhile but I never took the step to make an appointment. Like most patients looking to get a little work done..you can get pretty skeptical with the reviews you find on Yelp and the information you get from researching online. Well of course, it's your body...and in my case, MY EYELIDS. You always hear, "once you get something done, there's no going back"..especially if it was a botched job. Or you see elderly asian women who had the asian eyelid surgery done from way back in the day and it was extremely obvious-like a giant hood.. (the women your mom warned you about). But luckily for me, one of my girlfriends, who I TRUST, had just recently gotten the double eyelid surgery done by Dr. Lay and it came out looking good. So I was able to ask her about her experience -which was pretty much positive..so I decided to take the leap and make that appointment. Between making the appointment, going over what I wanted to be done, his suggestions, payment and getting a doctors note to get time off, the whole experience went pretty smoothly. I liked how he gave me photo examples of his previous patients who had the same procedure, pre and post-op. In the end, we came to the decision that I would have 2 procedures, Upper Eyelid/Ptosis Surgery (asian eyelid), as well as Lateral Cantoplasty, which would take about 2 hours total. During the procedure I was awake and I heard everything that went on..which wasn't the most pleasant feeling, but Dr. Lay and his assistant Tony made it as comfortable as it could be. It took me about 2 weeks to recover...those frozen gel packs along with a bag of frozen peas were literally my best friends. It felt so good to place them on my eyes to get rid of that hot-irritable feeling. My vision was slightly blurred in the beginning but that was expected and it went away pretty quickly. I knew that Dr. Lay was only a text/phone call away if I had any concerns. The only issue I had after my procedure was when a liquid filled bubble formed in the inner corner of one of my eyes. It was kinda scary, I could feel the bubble and the pressure it made on my eye. I assumed the worst..would this affect my vision?..how could I be so foolish and not research about possible negative outcomes in regards to my vision? I only worried about having uneven eyelids and the superficial parts! I text my concerns to Dr. Lay and he asked me to send photos of it. He told me that it was a conjunctiva cyst but then assured me that it was okay and it would eventually go away, but I could stop by the the office if I wanted to. I didn't feel the need after our few texts though! When it finally came time for my follow-up appointment, I felt little pinches as he removed my stitches and then it was like AHHHH-BLISS-I-AM-FREE! My eyelids didn't feel tight anymore, no more irritation, no more uncomfy pressure and that scary bubble completely went down by the next day! It's been about 10months since I had the surgery and I must say, I am VERY pleased with the results. No one could tell that I had them done unless I put a before and after photo side by side. It's THAT natural. Even my Mom (who is anti-elective surgery) said it looked really nice and natural. I like how I still look like me, but a better version! I still make a few visits to the office for other smaller non-surgical procedures. I trust Dr. Chase Lay, along with Nurse Emily and their work. I always come out with a lighter wallet but happy nonetheless. Beauty comes at a hefty price..lol. Oh, and shoutout to Tony and the rest of the team who are always friendly during my visits. I especially appreciate the girl who booked my appointments. My schedule is pretty wayward because of my job so I would make numerous calls-asking for random times on certain days, trying to get an appointment in with Dr. Chase Lay's busy schedule and she would always be pleasant and nice. Cannot be happier with the results of my eyelid surgery. I had very uneven eyelids and eye shape, so it made the surgery and recovery very unpredictable, Dr Lay suggested a revision 6 months after the surgery to get them perfect. Warning: this man is not the typical plastic surgeon you would expect, he will not agree on all the treatments you want, he will sing during your surgery, you will really need to convince him that you need a surgery. I got my eyelid surgery back in 2018 and to date I always say it's one of the most worth it things I've ever spent money on. I was wearing double eyelid tape for over a year prior and it was something I had wanted done for years. My recovery was pretty smooth and Dr Lay really helped put my mind at ease during the short procedure. Hi All - this review is for a surgery that I had back in 2017. Chase was actually the first surgeon I looked at when going through Real Self provider profiles. My lazy self decided that San Jose was too far, so I consulted with a couple of plastic surgeons in San Francisco instead for the ever popular "Asian Eyelid Surgery". I had these derpy asymmetric eyelids that got worse with age and I felt like I was ready for a glow-up. While the plastic surgeons I met were pleasant enough, I didn't feel like my concerns were actually heard and I left the consultations without moving forward with the surgery. I came into Dr. Lay's office for a fairly new treatment called Miradry. I had no idea this type of treatment even existed so i was intrigued when i learned about this procedure. This treatment is designed to reduce underarm sweat. Don't get me wrong, it's not like i sweat profusely or have a bad odor problem, but who doesn't get self conscious from sweating? As someone who works out 5 days a week; the last thing i want to worry about is if i remembered to put on deodorant or not. Treatment day: The treatment wasn't bad at all! I had a consult and injections done with Nurse Emily late summer and she is the best! She has a very friendly personality and was very helpful with making the best decision for my desired look. She did Botox between my brows and Juvederm for my lips. Noooo Not to sound like a drama queen but I think every girl/woman with hooded eyes (Asian or not) can relate to this. While I'm proud of my Asian features, having thick and fatty upper eyelids makes putting on eye make-up a PITA because half of your hard work ended up hidden under the hoods anyway. Yes, you can use false lashes to make your eyes look bigger but I'm lazy and ain't nobody got time for that. So I decided to seek out a permanent solution not for vanity sake but so I can fully express myself as a woman more easily. While researching on Asian eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) I came across Dr. Chase Lay on RealSelf.com. After reading his answers and watching his videos on the subject, I was confident to set up a consultation with him and he didn't disappoint. He was knowledgeable, professional, kind, funny, and very down to earth. I'm picky in general so I want to make sure my surgeon is someone I can trust, feel comfortable with, and is the top in his field of expertise (aka, he does this everyday with good results for patients like me). I knew I wanted a natural look, nothing dramatic so we settled on a low and tapered crease. The surgery date was set one month after my consultation for 4/20/16 and the entire procedure took about 2 hours or so: 1 hour to prep, mark my lids and another hour for the actual surgery itself for both eyes. I didn't experience much pain during the surgery except for the initial anesthetic injections to numb the lids (like getting the flu shot for 6 times lol). The surgery time flew by fast because Dr. Lay loves to talk and his assistant, Tony, kept me in good company throughout. The first night was the worst for me in term of pain since I didn't take any pain killers but Dr. Lay called to check on me the same day. After 7 days I came back to get the stitches out and it was easy breezy. While my left eye healed nicely with great outcome my right eye didn't cooperate so I decided to get a revision done 6 months later. Dr. Lay was really nice about it and I had to go through round 2 under the knife again but this time the procedure was a lot quicker and I healed a lot faster. Now after 1 year I'm very happy with the results. While it's not hard to find a plastic surgeon in the Bay Area, it's more rare to find one who's skilled, professional yet caring that operates with integrity and heart. I saw NP SieYeon this past week for PRF and Thread. I am really afraid of pain (yes, I know, kind of silly to say that and come in for treatment) but SieYeon made me feel at ease and I instantly trusted her. She was so gentle and very calming. I have a thyroid issue so I tend to shake a bit, which of course got worse as she started the procedure. I felt so bad that she had to work around my shaking but she kept assuring me that it was no problem at all. For someone who fears pain, it was really painless. I think there was maybe twice during the entire 1 hour procedure where I felt a little pain and she stopped immediately and made sure I was ok. I started noticing I had a hard time fully opening my eyes a few years ago. Ptosis - that's what it is called. Like all silent vowel words (asthma, pneumonia, Europe), it sounds trouble. The condition progressively got worse over the last 2 years that I looked almost half asleep in all the pictures. Last December when my mom asked me what happened to my eyes, I know it was time for me to do something about it. The problem is that it is a high-precision, difficult surgery with sometimes unpredictable outcome. We are talking about cutting 1-2 mm of the tendon that pulls up the upper lid, sew them up and see how they heal in 4 weeks. If this is not a gamble I sure don't know what it is. Last time I made a gamble like that was when I got married. I spoke with a couple ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons in San Francisco, but could not pull the trigger with enough confidence in any of them. I remembered meeting Hillary Clinton in a fundraising in Palo Alto in December. Although she has my vote, her plastic surgeon didn't. She looked wide-eyed in person. It may be a strategic asset that helps her with the 11-hour long Benghazi grill (falling asleep with eyes open?) or facing Donald Trump (*glare with eye closed*?), but jeez I didn't want my eyes to look like that. I was impressed with Dr. Lay's work on Realself and spoke with him about the surgery. He was very patient to explain to me about the risk, the surgery, the healing process, and what to expect. I had already seen all of his stellar-looking patients on his website and Instagram, but the best part was that when he told me there is an about 5% revision rate, he whipped out his iPhone to show me an example of unsuccessful case that probably would need revision. Certainly not someone who wants to sell you something, and I especially appreciated the full disclosure of both the best as well as worst case scenario, which helped me make an informed decision and manage my expectation. It also says a lot about a doctor who can remain objective about his work and is capable of self-critique, looking at things through patients' eyes. It is especially important because not all surgeries end up like a fairy tale. Truth be told is that we probably won't need the doctors to tell us when the result is amazing, but we do need them to acknowledge and help fix if it is not successful (we did talk about the backup plan "what-if" the outcome is not good). Well, the rest of it is history. Not only did he fix my droopy eyelids, he made my eyes look brighter, sexier and more well-defined (I'm a tomboy/woman-dude who no one has ever accused of being sexy, or using the wrong bathroom). I cannot be happier. Dr. Lay was wonderful and supportive throughout my recovery period. He called and texted to check in on my eyes. My left eye had not healed as well as the right eye, which as a result, looked more swollen and smaller in the beginning. I was a little freaked out. I texted Dr. Lay at 8AM and followed up with a call to his office at 9-ish AM, who told me that he was in a conference but were very helpful to schedule me to see him the next day. By the time I hung up the phone, he already texted me back. Of course it was just my post-op neurosis. Everything turned out great - my eyes look fantastic and Ted Cruz quit the race so I don't have to see his face on Google news anymore. I have not worked with any doctor who is more available to his patients and emotionally invested in the outcomes. He had told me that I would be restaurant-ready 2-week post-op. Not even that long, my eyes were looking great (albeit a little puffy like allergy) by day 11. The hardest part of the healing process I found was the first 3 days (I was so bored doing nothing "staying low") and no contact lenses for 2 weeks. Other than that it was mostly a breeze, and now I love my eyes! :) By the way, if you go see his portfolio on his Instagram, you will also notice that the guy is adored by his patients. This is the affluent Bay Area. It isn't hard for any good plastic surgeons to win the patients' wallets, but for them to open their hearts to you, it certainly takes a lot more. #Amazingchase. read more

Nurse Emily did a great job on my lip injections. I wanted it natural and she knew exactly how much to put in without it being too dramatic. She is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful in answering any questions that I had on how to take care of my skin after the procedure, especially while it's in the healing process. #1 This is an honest practice. They are actually real people who implement a flexible policy and are willing to make exceptions when necessary. They are not rigid to a fault, and as you can see this MD is passionate, and involved with his clientele and prides himself on his practice. #2 I had scheduled and paid my deposit upfront for a consultation that if I chose to go through with the procedure I could apply the deposit. What people don't consider is that sometimes the Dr. Can be amazing, but may not specialize in what you are asking for. He was very up front about that and refunded my deposit. It's one thing if the Dr. Can confidently fulfil your cosmetic needs and you choose not to go through surgery then the deposit compensates the Dr. for his time and consult. Though when the Dr. Feels there is someone else who may suit your needs better it is good etiquette to refund the clients deposit because they no longer have the option of applying it toward a procedure. #3 The receptionist (who may also be office managers or medical assistants) are very professional over the phone and even when situations become tense, they stay calm. It's never a good feeling to be turned down for something cosmetic, even when in your best interest and the message is delivered sweetly. There is still a bitter disappointment. I just really wanted to acknowledge them for the good deed they did. Scheduling consultations with MD's can get expensive really quick and given the circumstance this office was extremely considerate of the situation.
