Clearly a mixed bag with experiences here, but I would be remiss if I didn't detail out why we are fans of Dogma! First, we have bringing our little dude here for about 8 months now and he absolutely loses his mind every time he walks in the door here. He genuinely seems to have a blast, and to date, we have experienced no injuries or things to concern us. Drop-Off - Fairly easy and straight forward, we bring him in, sign him in, they give him a house collar with his name on it and they take him on back. Pick-Up - Equally as easy, we sign him out, gather his belongings, pay for the day and head out the door. One reason why we chose Dogma over a few other places in the area was the space they had for Tucker to play in. They feature both indoor and outdoor spaces that are secure, safe, covered, clean and also under video surveillance. This means that we can check in on him throughout the day by going to their website and scoping the cameras. That was one big thing for us, we wanted to make sure to be able to see him to ensure he was actually enjoying himself, which he always seems to be doing here! The only draw back that we have experienced is Tucker comes home sometimes with heavy kennel odor, so he gets random baths after daycare at home more times than not. Pricing - They did recently go up on pricing, and while it is not the cheapest, it is still fairly priced at $24 for a full day and you can make that cheaper if you go with a package and pre-pay for so many visits. Additionally, Wednesday and Saturday's are discounted days at only $18 for a full day! Grooming - Another reason why we chose Dogma was the convenience of grooming they offer. We usually drop him off for daycare and schedule a bath later in the day for him - the services are fairly priced as well. Tucker LOVES when he gets a bath later in the day, because on occasion they let him hang out behind the counter with them so he doesn't go back out and ruin his freshness. This is something that I feel is really cool, as I appreciate that and as you can see from a pic of ours, Tucker does too! Service - I have never had an issue, everyone is always nice and helpful to us, and friendly and loving with Tucker. Overall, Dogma has been everything we need it to be for our little dude and will continue to be as long as we are in the Smyrna area! read more

I desperately searched for a temporary foster home for my therapy dog Sammi Girl, to no avail. 3 fosters backed out at the last moment. One lady offered to help us, but after the first night it was clear that it wasn't going to work out. She offered to let us stay in my car in the parking lot, and come in to use the restroom. Her heart was definitely in the right place. To be honest, the next few days are a bit of a haze, as i was having a nervous breakdown. Out of options, and while uncontrollably sobbing, I dropped Sammi off at her daycare. My intention was to take my life, and I attempted to do so that evening. I saw where I sent a text to Dogma regarding my intention, although I don't remember doing so. I also saw where Dogma asked me to send an email with specific language for surrendering my Sammi, but I also see where I did not send it. Dogma wasn't concerned at all that I was attempting suicide, and didn't mention it at all. They just wanted custody of my therapy dog Sammi Girl. That evening, I drove to the Nantahala River and took all of my sleeping meds. While I took enough to more than kill myself, it didn't work. The fire department found me, and I spent the last 3 weeks in a hospital in NC. I wasn't allowed to use the phone for several days due to the nature of my hospitalization. It was on day 4 that I was FIRST able to use the phone. The FIRST call I made was to Dogma to check on my therapy dog Sammi Girl, and make boarding arrangements until I would return. The manager referred to me by my last name, not my first. That was my first sign. She gave me the owner's number. I called the lady (and I use that term very loosely), and told her about my breakdown. I barely got the words out of my mouth, and she unleashed a barrage of profanities, including yelling "You abandoned your Gxx Dxxxx dog". She is a very foul-mouthed person, and completely unprofessional. My hunch is that she has kept my dog for herself, or given her to someone she knows. I can't imagine anyone would deny me having known my circumstances otherwise. She was, and has continued to deny me visitation, and custody, of my therapy dog Sammi Girl. She said my girl has been given away. She continues to taunt and berate me. I don't have the money right now to file a lawsuit against Dogma and its owner, but should public shaming not work I will do so when possible. Sammi Girl has been chipped Stolen. They attempted to have her Re-chipped to the new owner and requested her vet records transferred. I dropped my puppy off on a Thursday, when I picked him up the following Tuesday I could barely recognize him. He was so dirty his coat was a different coat. 3 paws were injured and his tail had a bald spot. He was too weak to climb up in the car like usual. When I got him home I noticed 3 of his paws had bite marks on them, as well as his face, head and shoulder. One if his toes was so badly infected it appeared broken. I took him to the Vet the following day who confirmed what I suspected and more. The Vet Tech who assisted in caring for my baby told me she's heard horror stories about this place. No way will I EVER take my dog back here again. My dog has gone to Doguroo in Midtown for almost 2 years now. He goes about once a week, and has stayed for up to 8 nights of boarding. He loves it, and we love them. After my husband and I moved to Smyrna, we were looking for a more convenient place to take our dog, so we tried Dogma. The negative reviews should have scared us away, but I figured, maybe those were isolated incidents. I even asked about the reviews when I did a tour with the manager (Marcus), and he said the negative reviews were from disgruntled former employees or from owners of dogs that didn't pass the temperament test. I also noticed that most of the outdoor space is concrete. I asked if the dogs are always out there on concrete in the heat, and Marcus said they bring the dogs in when it gets too hot.I was willing to give it a shot. After Charlie's temperament test day, everything was fine. He was tired and clearly dehydrated when we got home, but he went right to sleep like he usually does after a day of day care. Last week, I took Charlie in for a day of day care. It was in the high 80s that day. When I picked him up, I noticed he was immediately licking his paws obsessively. I took a look when we got home, and I was shocked at what I saw. His paws were red, swollen, cracked, and bleeding. It was obvious that Charlie was outside for what I can only assume was all day. He was whimpering as he walked. I put ice on his paws, but it didn't give him much relief. The following day, he continued to whimper when he walked. He was much less playful and more lethargic, which is unlike him even after a day of daycare. I have emailed the management in regards to this issue, and no one responded. I am appalled that dogs would be allowed to be on pavement in 80+ degree weather for hours on end. Damage like that doesn't happen fast. I have yet to receive a response from the management, so I'm taking to social media so others will know to avoid this place at ALL COSTS. We're willing to drive the extra 20 minutes to Doguroo if it means our dog will have people that actually care about his health. It's a shame, too, because the staff was very friendly and courteous. We had high hopes for this place, but we will never go back again, and I encourage others to avoid this place as well. (Side note- if this place is called Dogma, why is their Yelp page titled "Puppies Love Our Daycare"? We were relieved to find a place last minute that had availability, however that should have been the first red flag as all the good places were booked. When we picked up our puppy and it was time to get in the car he wouldn't jump in, after a moment he finally got in the car but whimpered. When we got home he refused to jump down. After I called my husband to come help we had to carry the puppy out the car. This has never happened before. When we brought him to the backyard his favorite place he was limping as he was running around. That's when we realized there was an indent in his neck and a bad cut. We called them to ask what happened, their response let us check the tapes and get back to you - never called us back. If you take him to the vet we'll reimburse you. What?! In what world is it okay to receive these pictures and never call back after we left a healthy puppy. We'll never know what happened but we do know we'll never leave him there ever again. read more

Eventually, there has to be a last straw. I'm not writing this review because I want my money back, or I want some sort of "explanation", I just want other pet parents to be wary when choosing their second family for their dog. It makes me sad to write this, because we've trusted dogma with our babies for about a year now, and we used to love sending them here. We're frequent flyers of dogma- or used to be... but something clearly has changed. At first it was small mistakes- cutting the wrong dogs nails and still charging us to fix it, giving our dog with life threatening food allergies the wrong foods and getting several stories about what happened...but this past weekend, I dropped my baby off for a weekend at dogma, after deciding to give them one more shot. When I picked her up today, she reeked of urine. At first I thought, hey dogs are crazy when they're not home, but when I got her home to bathe her she was caked in her own urine and poop, had sores on her mouth, and is clearly shaken up. She's spent the entire night clung to my side whimpering and shaking which is NOT her. I'm not sure what happened, but I think next time we'll try somewhere else. If the right person at Dogma sees this- we used to LOVE sending Tiny and Remi here. I'm not sure what/who changed recently, but I hope it's not a forever attitude for Dogma. Update as of 4/28/2023: we were in a pinch today with unexpected repairs from our landlord and I had to take Remi on my way to work. The normal crew we're used to seeing was there and Remi seemed like she had a blast today. I really don't think our bad feelings experiences reflect Dogma as a whole, and hopefully the few bad apples can be sorted out. read more

When I picked him up, he rolled over for me to rub his belly and his paws were bleeding and oozing (the picture is taken after his paws were cleaned to prevent infection). I called the vet immediately. They requested that I email pictures and told me that it was not normal and scheduled an emergency appointment. Just got off the phone with a less than enthusiastic employee at Dogma. I called to get information about grooming services, and when I posed that question, the response was a flat, annoyed, and unhelpful "okay." So, I took the initiative and provided some information about my dogs, but I was told that the groomers at this facility operate independently, and there's no way for anyone to give pricing or even a broad estimate of pricing over the phone. You have to make an appointment, bring in your dog, and only then you find out how much it's going to cost. Guess how many other groomers I called with that same policy? If you chose ZERO, you win! The next time I go to a restaurant, I'll try to find one that doesn't actually put any prices on the menu, but instead surprises me at the end of the meal with a bill. Or maybe the next time I buy a car, I'll just pick one out, and let the dealer draw up the invoice with whatever mystery price they would like. Decided to take my puppy to Dogma Daycare after seeing a billboard advertisement and must say I have been pretty impressed with the care and services provided. The staff is very friendly and since Day 1 has been welcoming. I really do love that you can monitor your dog via Webcam; it's a great touch and makes me feel comfortable every time I leave my furry friend. This was my first go at their grooming salon, and I am so pleased. He looks amazing after seeing Natra here! My dog loved going to dogma, however the facility and its staff are it's biggest downfall. I have a large breed Labrador puppy who loves to play with other dogs, however play soon turned into injuries, he has on 3 occasions come back from daycare with severe marks and scratches. I am not stupid and know my dog plays rough with other but Coming back on separate occasions with wounds to his face was too much. I would particularly avoid Wednesday's as that's the day he has come back with wounds because it is discount day and they do no keep a count on number of dogs to staff. honestly, where do i start? my wife and i have been taking multiple of our dogs here for daycare and boarding. our smallest dog is SEVERELY allergic to chicken, eggs, turkey, and anything bird related. tiny's first boarding experience they fed her wet food(even tho we had sent her normal dry food and wet purée in case she decided not to eat) that contained chicken. we brought her home and noticed she wouldn't eat, she had awful diarrhea, her tail stayed between her legs like her stomach hurt and so i called dogma and they said they gave her some random wet food. but that if we took her to emergency vet to let them know to ensure the other dog parents knew about a "potential virus" going around. allergies aren't contagious, and she almost died because of it. i was livid because despite us explaining the severity of this allergy, they don't ever put an extra collar or tag on her to ensure everyone knows she has an allergy. we always send her with treats she can have as well. another time we boarded Tiny and our other dog Remi, and asked them to cut Remi's nails upon picking them up. They ended up cutting Tiny's nails and not Remi's and STILL charged us to cut remi's nails. flash forward to today picking up Tiny from weekend boarding and we tried to find her on the cameras all weekend. and we couldn't, not once in the 5 times a day we checked a day did we see Tiny outside, or even in a kennel. but she reeks of her own urine as she definitely sat in it all weekend. so far, she's eating fine though. if you want adequate care for your fur babies, take them elsewhere. this place is iffy on the care, and we WILL NOT be coming here anymore! read more

This place is truly awful. My 7 month old puppy began going once my boyfriend and I were both working full-time, refusing to leave him in a crate all day. The temperament test went fine. The next day he stayed for a full day. When I picked him up, he was not only incredibly hot- almost as though he had been sitting outside in the sun for at least the last two hours- but he didn't cool down until we got home (20 min drive + blasting A/C). When we got home he was clearly dehydrated, as he drank two full bowls consecutively. We didn't have many options for our little guy so he continued to go. Biggest. Mistake. Ever. One day shortly after I went to pick him up, as normal. When I went to put him in the car, I noticed an OPEN WOUND on his face. I immediately marched back in and demanded to know why my sweet, sweet puppy had an open and fresh wound on his face. The lady at the desk had no idea what I was talking about (!!!!). To me, this was indicative of how clueless the staff can be. How does an incident like that go unreported? Paying for day care, you assume your dog's safety is absolutely guaranteed- especially after the temperament testing policy. He was also groomed that day. He smelled great, but his paws were almost as though he had a pedicure. All calluses and roughness was removed, which anyone who knows anything about dogs knows that the roughness protects the sensitive paws underneath. A couple days later, his paws were absolutely burned to pieces. Skin was hanging off. They were cracking. His paws were absolutely raw and red. Another day I picked him up and he smelled like he had rolled in urine, so I requested to have him bathed again the next day. When I came to pick him up at the time I listed on the sign in sheet- he was OUTSIDE after I had specifically requested to limit his outdoor activity due to his paws AND they had not even started bathing him. Not cool. I said I would wait because I knew he needed a bath and didn't want him stinky over the weekend. When I FINALLY got him home, he had a terrible reaction to whatever they used. This didn't happen the first time he was groomed, so it was indicative that something new had happened. This go around, the cologne smelled like it was straight from the mouth of a Bath and Body Works clad baby prostitute. Clearly, they had applied scented lotion to him that was NOT meant for dogs. I don't doubt that the people who work here like dogs, but I question their knowledge of how to actually properly care for the dog. Won't be going back. Looking for new places closer to home. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone looking for a place where they can rest assured their pup is in good hands. read more

What a traumatizing experience for me and my dog- well mainly for myself because I am aware of what horrible care they provided. I took my almost-6 month puppy for a temperament test and from what was reported, she did pretty well. She stayed at the facility for about 8 hours. A few days later I took her in for 2 nights, 3 days for memorial weekend AND WHAT A NIGHTMARE. 1. I was told she would sleep in a kennel at night. On both, Friday and Saturday night she was in a room full of big and little dogs. I was checking out the websites webcam at around 11:30pm and 12:30 am just seeing how she was sleeping and she was not! She was roaming in a room with other dogs- ALL NIGHT. she is a puppy and if she isn't given a kennel and separation from other dogs SHE WILL NOT SLEEP! It broke my heart to watch her wander around in the middle of the night and always be vigilant of surroundings. 2. When I picked her up I asked the young lady at the desk if my puppy was given her heartworm and flea meds that day- as requested and payed for. The young lady said, "well it's not in her box so I assume it was given to her." What the &$@@! I checked my dogs coat and there was no oily residue from the topical solution anywhere to be found. I asked the woman again and she assured me that IF it was administered it PROBABLY washed off because the dogs were playing in the water that morning. No way, lady! No f$@&ing way! 3. My dog came home underweight, you could see her ribs. It looked like she did not eat and she was very dehydrated as evidence of the amount of wear she drank once home. Remember, her stay was only for 2 1/2 days! 4. She had a back or hind leg injury. She walked with a very bad gait and it was heartbreaking to see her like that. It wasn't about 2 days later (today) that she is walking somewhat normal again. I was able to give her some pain relieving meds that her vet prescribed. 2 bucks to the drain. 5. She was playing all day and it seems as if she did not have any naps or breaks- as I requested on her sheet before admitting her since she is a puppy. Her paws were raw and very pinkish like. She yelped when I tried to touch her hind paw. 6. The day after I picked her up she had diarrhea all day and was very lethargic and weak. She basically stayed in her bed all day and inhaled her food since she was pretty hungry. In all, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone with a dog- especially if they have a small, young pup who needs extra attention and needs. Please re-think where you leave your dog and be mindful that Dogma Dog Care will not care for it- it was only looking to overpack their facility for memorial weekend and extra $$$. If I could give this place 0 stars I most certainly would! I boarded my two year old bichon here for the holidays. We chose Dogma because it was close to our house. We actually visited dogma back in 2014 when we first moved to Smyrna; at that time we had a large breed, Newfoundland, and thought it was nice for a large outside dog. If you have medium to small breeds I don't suggest dogma. The first issue and red flag I ignored was that I never saw any small dogs in the small dog play area. I called and asked about it and was told the dogs were outside at the moment, however I checked the web cams several times and never saw small dogs. I then did out through a Yelp review today (we picked him up earlier in the week) the small dog area has not been in use for SEVERAL YEARS! Also note when we asked to see the small dog area in person at drop off we were told that the dogs were outside. Sound familiar? We have a sweet but anxious fur baby that has not been away from us since we got him at 8 months so we arrived to dogma very weary. We asked to see where he would be staying and they took us behind a gate, down the hall, down another hall in the back to a low lit concrete JAIL CELL. We had looked at photos of the private suites we paid for and they were painted nice and more homey. I rushed home to get all of his beds, toys, and other things (don't think they were used) to help the separation anxiety. I'm fairly certain they just stuck him in a crate for 7 days and 8 nights. Our bichon is an indoor dog, he only goes outside to pee. Sometimes he will play and enjoy the weather and scenery however not for long. They gave us two options of either he is outside all day, or he is inside all day with walks every 4 hours. It's not that our dog won't enjoy outside and interacting with other dogs, he just won't want to be there ALL day. There was no in between option so also fairly certain he had minimal interaction with caretakers as well. I wish I had read all these reviews before boarding because Dogma certainly would not have been an option. The groomer also gave him a hideous haircut he no longer looks like a bichon, just a homeless dog. Dogma is a disgusting facility that smells of every type of urine you could imagine. The animals are mistreated. They only want the money. They cost more than places that are so much nicer. It was a ripoff. I'd leave my dog with a stranger before I take him back here. I dropped my dog off for a temperment test and grooming. No problems and staff was very professional. The groomer did a great job and my dog is a chow mix with lots of fur, which is not easy to cut. I highly recommend Dogma for anyone in the area. I will be bringing Riley Roo back for sure. read more

Our dog was covered in mud, smelled like a swamp, and needed her glands " de-glanded".... The peeps at Dogma took care of All that and also tossed in a bow! Then they played with her and when we got her home she slept all nite!! read more
