I was very excited to come here for Mother's Day. This was my treat to myself. Came with my sister in law and two little girls. I made a reservation a month ago. I called a week before our reservation and they couldn't find the reservation. Good thing I called. So made another reservation for 1 pm. I got there exactly at 1 pm. Hostess points at a table to go sit there. We seat ourselves. No one comes to the table for 15 min. Finally I ask somebody who out waiter is. Someone comes 5 min later. So 20 min of just waiting. She comes up and doesn't explain anything and just asks what we want. I had looked up the menu before so I said I want the tea service for all of us. For adults it's $27 and kids $12. She tells us it comes with a alcoholic beverage which I don't remember seeing on the menu online. I tell her I don't want that. I just want the regular tea service. She insists it comes with it. I tell her I guess bring whatever you want. We did not drink it. It sat there the entire time. Food was good. Not great. The pastries were good. Sandwiches were something that I could make at home. Scones were okay. Not enough flavor. I had the almond biscuit tea which I loved. Towards the end I also ordered the French toast which was $16. Once again she's pushing the drink and I tell her I don't want it since we didn't even drink the first two. French toast was good. She only came to the table in a two hour period twice and that's after we had to hunt her down. She brings the bill which should have been max $100 plus tax and tip. It cost us $240. I asked her why the prices were almost double and she said it was a Mother's Day special (hence the drink). Nobody explained this to us. Nobody said that there was a different menu. $50 for French toast! If I had known I would have come on a regular day! I asked to speak to a manager who never came to the table but took 10% off which was definitely not enough. In the end I will not be coming back. Came on a Sunday and the service was not good. I had my two kids with me and we were seated at 4:05 it took them about 15 to come and take our orders. I ordered a salad and chicken fingers and fries for kids to start. It's 4:48pm and they have not brought our meals not even the salad. My kids are cranky and hungry. At 5:11 pm we are still seated awaiting our meals. The server simply bought a bowl of fries with ketchup for our two boys to share. I honestly don't know where to begin. I was super excited to bring my family here for Mother's Day because I had a beautiful brunch experience with a friend a few years ago. But boy was this the worst dining experience I have encountered. We were a party of 14 and the reservation was booked since April. We were forced to eat from a prefixed menu which was not stated when the reservation was made, but we went along with it and was still looking forward to a great experience. We sat for over an hour with no food. I asked the manager/owner (Melissa) what was causing the delay and I was met with an attitude. She began to blame my party size and said the restaurant was busy ( it was not, business had slowed down and there were several empty tables.) I expressed to her that we made a reservation and was given a prefixed menu so they should be prepared for us. She continued to be nasty and shortly after we received our appetizers and a round of sangrias for the table that only two people ordered. After over another hour the waitress began to bring our food out. The manager runs out and says that the food was for another table who was seated after us. I expressed how this food was for us because we have been waiting and she told me to "relax". She then came out with more plates and served the other table and neglected our table. It took an additional 20mins before everyone at the table received their food. If you do the math we had been waiting a total of over 2hrs and 30mins before service was completed. We asked for our desserts to go. I expressed to our waitress (who was amazing and accommodating) how dissatisfied I was with the manager and her service. She then offered 20% of the bill. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILL!!! So the round of sangrias that we thought were on the house, we were charged for and the 75$ pp for the prefixed was actually 78$. The waitress did correct the bill, but at the end of the day it was too late to count that as a win because the experience was so horrible, it all should've been free. The food was subpar and the drinks were mediocre. I also attached a picture of the dirty bar that we were sitting next to and the unequal portions that we were served for the same meal. I want to make it very clear that the wait staff was great and tried their best in an unorganized and completely mishandled situation caused by the disgraceful owner/manager. Chat Noir is one of my family's favorite places to go. Yes, the food is delicious and what makes it even more special is the service. They treat you like family. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on 12/15 and decided to start our day with brunch at this wonderful place. We shared that it was our anniversary and the owner, Shawn, came over to share warm wishes with us. Our server, Katie was a sweetheart. Honestly, the time I went would be the first and last time I will be returning to Chat Noir. We went to Chat Noir at a suggestion of a friend who googled them up for me. I saw they were offering a Valentine's Day menu, and made a reservation for my husband and I to attend this year. We were seated quite quickly in a chic, Parisian-style restaurant. The main attraction was the Eiffel tower in the middle of the dining room, of course! The restaurant had a connecting room to another dining area, and a little cafe in the back with a takeaway window. The waitress was very proud of her table centerpiece when we complimented it, and we saw how much pride she took in it. Beverages such as water and pots of tea were brought very quickly, but didn't define how their service was, unfortunately. Within minutes when we placed our orders from the prix fixe menu for appetizers and entrees, we received the grilled octopus leg and scallops. Both were very good, and the octupus leg came with an almost "pico de gallo"-like sauce that brought ut the taste. Now came the wait. I believe between our appetizers and entrée came to maybe an hour wait... Other diners who sat down after us received their entrees before we did...which was odd. We also only had our waters refilled once towards the end when we asked for the check to leave, but had sat in Chat Noir for about 2 hours total. The entrees were OK, and lacked flavor. We were disappointed since the appetizers were amazing. When we received our checks, my husband noticed a 4% surcharge added to every single item we ordered. We did not see anything related to an automatic surcharge to the bill on the menus, website, Valentine's Day menu print out, etc. We asked the waiter about the surcharge, and to that he explained, "Oh. The machine does that automatically and we can't change it." That is a no-no and illegal, as a merchant is required to display this clearly and makes that surcharge price the actual price we would be paying. Neither was done. Do better, Chat Noir. read more

This is one of the only places in all of Nassau county that serves afternoon tea service and I want to love it so bad but every time I go, I'm always just a little bit disappointed. I've tried a few different things from here besides the tea, including a couple of their salads, sandwiches, and apps, and everything is just ok. The ambience of the place is cute, but definitely a little outdated. I considered having my baby shower here but the amount of decorating I would have to do just didn't seem financially worth it for me. They have two separate rooms, one bigger main area, one smaller room with a separate entrance. The main reasons I opted not to choose this location was 1) lack of variety with food, on their tea service they offer the three standard sandwiches, egg salad, chicken salad, and cucumber cream cheese, and 2) poor staff follow up for both events and regular in person dining. I would think for an event their managers would want to follow up with people who come in with serious inquiries but no one ever got back to me about booking my party and I most definitely dodged a bullet! While visiting in person for regular dining, it takes a while for servers to get to you, or circle back to you to see if anything is needed, get your check. Etc, even for pickup orders! What I will give them is their extensive tea menu, they have some fab fab flavours worth checking out. I especially love the flavoured green teas! I've been a loyal patron of Chat Noir for years, even through the previous ownership. Unfortunately, my recent visit was disappointing. The service was incredibly slow, which made the meal feel drawn out and frustrating. To make matters worse, the owner was present and, frankly, not dressed appropriately for the role. His strong odor was quite off-putting and detracted from the overall dining experience. Chat Noir has great potential with its food, but serious improvements are needed in both SERVICES and HYGIENE I hope they can turn things around as I have recommended numerous people in the past, but will no longer be doing that. read more

I arrived and the host, now a lady asked if we had a reservation, I said no, and started getting nervous; thinking she was going to turn us away. She looked around and proceeded to grab 2 menus and asked to follow her! I was so excited and very thankful to this employee!! The food overall was mediocre. Tea was typical and good. The finger sandwiches were tasty but nothing to be wowed about. Scones and pastry's were pretty tasty. Prices were overly priced and I was just better off going home and making my own tea! We noticed our waitress who was an older woman was not very attentive or kind to us, but we would watch as she was so sweet to other people. It made us feel very uncomfortable and sad. My daughter ordered the eggs benedict & I ordered the crab cake benedict. Came in here on Friday afternoon with my parents for a late lunch (Dad was the only man there, felt a little bad for that but who knew haha). This place is really cute and was very crowded for 1pm on a Friday...think they have a bit of a niche since they serve breakfast and lunch where a lot of places in RVC do not have the weekly breakfast option. I am usually a breakfast girl, but felt a salad was the way to go! I had the shrimp lime salad and my parents both got curry chicken salad - one in a salad and the other on a roll. My parents both enjoyed their chicken salad - said it was different and flavorful and left them both full! I tried it, and also agreed. I like that there were white almonds in it. I think it made it more tasteful. I was also impressed with my shrimp - they were well cooked and large which is always a plus. They also did not skimp on how many they gave me! Rockville Centre is blessed with many good restaurants and Chat Noir is opened for lunch [some are only open in the evening] I had been here before and love it. We were seated immediately and gave the waitress our drink order. They have an extensive selection of teas all of which look appetizing. I ordered the blood orange tea and my friend ordered the Paris tea. We looked over the menu after talking for a while and catching up. She ordered the French onion soup and then got the onion tart. I ordered the turkey and swiss cheese on and oversized croissant and pesto aioli. We continued talking while waiting for our food. Our meals were delicious. The onion soup was a significant size, not just a cup and my turkey sandwich was layered with turkey, lettuce and the croissant was delicious. We were full at the end of our meal and opted out of getting scones [We had them the last time we were there and ended up taking them home-they were great!] The restaurant is clean and the restroom is well maintained. Made a reservation online. When my date and i arrived they put us in the farthest back table next to the kitchen entrance. The chaotic movement of the staff did not lend itself to a relaxing experience, nor did the whaling child at the table near us. Regarding our table, it was wobbly, and one corner was chipped and splintering, as though a small animal had made a nest in it. The table cloth hid this, but splinters pushed through the fabric. Additionally my date's tea cup had a white powder in it. Not sure what it was. Flour or soap maybe. Since our table was hastily set as we arrived, we were missing teaspoons, a spoon for the sugar, an extra menu, and our napkins were not folded. Irrelevant detail perhaps, but not something they ignored on the other tables. Our waitress was not particularly friendly either. Direct and to the point. She took our orders quickly and did not ask about food allergies or if we wanted milk with our tea. We both got the tea service. The food and tea were decent. The tea strainers they give you don't work well, so you will still get leaves in your cup. The sandwiches were the weakest part, but still pretty good. I would have liked some kind of seasoning in the egg salad. The scones were great. When it came time to pay the $67 bill, we gave her a one hundred dollar bill and she asked first if we wanted change. She then asked how much change. We found this to be a little strange. All of it? We were going to tip obviously, but after we got the change back. Overall it was an okay experience, clearly the busyness of the restaurant diluted the atmosphere. It seems small details that elevate the whole thing fall to the wayside when the staff have other patrons with bigger checks. My husband and I ate here last night and overall we had a great meal. The crab cakes were delicious, and so were the entrees we had which were beef Bourgogne and Chicken cordon blue. There are a few things I would recommend though: 1. There was only one waitress working and one assistant waiter. I felt bad for them because they seemed completely overwhelmed. It took about fifteen minutes to receive our water and drinks, but we knew their hands were filled so we just submitted our entire order in one shot. Management should make sure there are several waitresses and waiters working on a busy Friday night to not burn their staff out. 2. We had the cheese plate and it was good but I would have a baguette instead of crackers and I would also remove that chalky tasting white cheese. 3. The owner sat and feed her whole family at a table right next to us, while I sat there with my family - with (2) kids 1 and 9 for two hours with no food and watched everyone else eat. I do not recommend this restaurant TO ANYONE. BE ADVISED - RIP OFF. don't go - SAVE YOUR MONEY!! and what I mean by that, our bill was way off the charts - 3 appetizers, 4 entrées, two desserts, seven glasses of wine and two beers. oh and 7 glasses of club soda @ $35 for a grand total of $570 which included 20% gratuity for terrible service - she ant no Jean-George, that's for sure. Came here with my friends quite some time ago. Place is quite nice and has a very warm atmosphere. We each ended up picking multiple different teas to try and they were all so good. I don't remember the exact one that I got anymore, but it was a fruit based one and I do remember enjoying it quite a bit. We also got some delicious scones to go with them as well. Dreamy. Quaint and charming inside. Feels like classic European ambiance. If you're a cat person the decor is to die for. If not you'll still find it sweet and cheery, I think. Very bright inside making it feel open even when it's crowded. It can get loud. We've been twice, second visit today was much better in terms of service. It may have been timing and lack of reservations the first time out that led to the less than ideal experience. Place was bustling today at high noon. Staff is hardworking and I didn't see anybody slacking. Our waitress was sweet, soft-spoken and sincere. On both visits we had one of the soup of the day options. Both times delicious, consistency was perfect. Generous bowl for the small size at $5.50 on the lunch menu. You can get beer and wine as well as tea or coffee. I didn't inquire about soft drinks. All the teas are available to purchase to brew at home. The pace is slow, so if you're in a hurry this is not a good choice. Here you're meant to linger. Every plate is freshly made for you and definitely worth the wait. Since they are individually prepared it seems that ingredient substitutions are not a problem; at least my husband's request for black olives in place of black beans was cheerfully accommodated. It is comprised of two dining rooms, and the secondary one as I recall has more fun cat decor. It was not in use when we had our brunch today. When you're able to spend a while over lunch or dinner, check out Chat Noir for a unique dining experience. They also offer cooking classes and baking classes. Although I haven't taken any yet I do plan to do so in the near future. One thing I love about Shack noir is there extensive variety of teas. I love tea and probably have about 40 different kinds at my home so seeing their variety made me giddy. Their croque madam instantly transports me to my days living in France! We went here on New Year's Day for brunch so it was pretty empty which was nice. I got the Baxter Benedict and my husband got the croissant bacon egg and cheese. My food was fine but nothing out of the ordinary, everything was bland and it tasted like nothing was seasoned. Both avocado and tomato are very bland ingredients so they need at least a dash of salt. The Hollandaise also did not taste like much and was pretty runny. They don't advertise a side salad let alone the crumbled cheese that comes on it so I had to pick it all off, which was annoying but not the biggest deal.
