It is charming establishment with reasonable prices. So, I can't ask too much. During Mother's Day weekend, it appeared to be quite busy. Our waitress was friendly but not so attentive and hard to get attention because the place was busy and understaffed. Additionally, the food presentation for the tea service was rather mediocre. I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed. The sandwiches weren't quite what I expected either; instead of delicate finger sandwiches, they were cut into large triangles with crusts intact, making them a bit cumbersome to eat. Given that it's a tea place, I was hoping for a more authentic tea service experience with regards to the food offered. But they have a great selection of tea. The menu sounds great. The second time my daughters and I brought my wife for Mother's Day. Each time was extra special. The clotted cream and the scones and the dainty sandwiches and the tea were all unique and delicious. I posted this on google too because it is so important to see. Absolutely do not recommend. We hosted a party here and it was a complete mess. The owner NEVER answers her phone, demanded everything in cash (off the books), and refused to provide a proper bill. After agreeing on a set price, she upcharged us $15 per person. We gave the cash to the man "in charge" and then realized. Only after a very kind waitress got involved and call multiple times saying we were not leaving until the money came back did he come back to return $1000. We had also arranged for flowers and tea cups to be delivered the day before -- they carelessly gave them away to a different event. No effort to fix it until the very end when guests were on their way out. When the owner knew there was a problem, she didn't even come to her place of business to help solve it. She was nowhere to be found the whole day. The food was terrible. The only bright spot was the staff -- the waitresses were wonderful and tried their best to help us despite the mess. Stay far away. I was also able to secure us a last minute reservation at 1:45p which we may have waited a minute or two more? We chatted with the hostess as she complimented both of our purses and she was very friendly. So off Steph and I went with hungry stomachs as we had arrangements to hit YAAAS after lunch. We already agreed on splitting the following: - Cream Tea: which is a basket of scones (which we both took home two each and the accoutrements that go with said scones) and a pot of tea. - Burrata & Fried Eggplant Salad: the salad in our opinion could've used more dressing and the Burrata needed either more dressing or salt. As the waitress seemed to be rather busy we opted for the more salt option. Fried eggplant was definitely fried and nice and crispy. - Turkey & Goat Cheese Sandwich: an interesting sandwich to say the least. Some bites I felt like I tasted straight up cranberry compote other bites straight goat cheese. The side salad with the generous sprinkling of goat cheese and dressing was delicious. I think if we came back again I'd definitely be interested in high tea and their little cheese board we saw. The ambiance of Chat Noir is rather girly but I'm more than good with that. You want good tea do come here. It's December so they were busy. Had a private party in the next room over. Liked the egg sandwich the best. My friend noticed the waitresses didn't match the place in attire - Like leggings with the Nike emblem didn't go well for this - although I loved the colorful hair one of the waitresses had. So I'm torn with the stars. I have been wanting to come here for a while and finally made on a day out with my mom. They had a large party going on and that may have been the impact on the way I feel about the service. It's very plain and quaint. No crazy decor or ambiance. Not sure is where the had the private party is where they seat people and the room we were in is their overflow but I was underwhelmed by the ambiance of the space. When we allés it it took a minute before anyone greeted us and sat us. The seating was less then desirable we were right next to the doorway and the doorway to the party room where there was a little traffic between the rooms. We had the tea service and the French onion soup. The tea service was nice but definitely would be better ordering one and just sharing a pot of tea and getting something else on the menue to try. The scones didn't come out warm but they were moist and tasty and remains moist as we took our leftovers home and had over the next two days. We also had the French onion soup which was a very generous serving and was extremely flavorful and cheesy. Definitely recommend. I would come again and tray and actual dish and hopeful there is t a private party and I can see if the service is different. read more

The food here is delicious too! I came back twice recently and had the crab cakes Benedict! So good!!! And people in my party had the muzby, the Baxter pie, and the croque Madame which were all delicious according to them! Of course had to get the scones again doing the cream tea option (scones with tea) and those never disappoint, so full and satisfied after another visit to ChatNoir. I don't think I've ever written a bad review about anywhere in the years I've been on Yelp... but I am embarrassed. I invited my friends to Chat Noir as I love tea and wanted to try what I hoped would be a local gem. I had made a 1:00 reservation weeks prior and arrived promptly for our table with one of them. We were quickly seated by two very friendly women; they were jovial, outgoing and welcoming. Unfortunately, was a false first impression of what was to follow... The other 3 girls trickled in over the next 10 minutes (apparently there was a life threatening / fatal multiple car crash on the highway nearby causing a delay). Before the last 2 girls arrived, me and the other friends of mine were asked 6 times if we were ready. At the time we thought, we'll give them 10 minutes to show; I wish I could tell our past selves not to wait a second to order because it would take over an hour to receive finger sandwiches. We were told the kitchen was backed up, but I couldn't imagine how backed up this small restaurant could be to take an hour to slice white bread. I worked in a deli and would whip out subs with multiple types of sliced meat, condiments and veggies within minutes; I find it hard to imagine egg and tuna salad being that time consuming. Perhaps the waitress forgot to put our order in... she did forget to serve us drinks! Once the food arrived, I think we inhaled it. I will say, it was tasty and hit the spot after patiently waiting. At around 2:40 (keep in mind our reservation was for 1:00), the manager came over and said "we have a party in 40 minutes, so I have to ask you to leave." One of my friends smiled and responded by saying "oh that's ok, no worries, we'll be out of here by then" (as we were picking on the last pieces of food and just enjoying our tea and time together). She said "no, I need you out NOW." We were all befuddled; no one had told us about a 3:15 party reservation - not when I called to make ours, not when we walked in or seated, or even when we got our meals (at 2:15). Remember when I said we inhaled our food? Well, that was a good thing because we unknowingly only had 30 minutes to eat it! We were actually one of the more cooperative tables from what it looked like. We had just been asked to leave before even being asked if we wanted/handed the check. Were we being told to get up right that second and gifted a free meal? Because that was the sense of urgency in the manager's "now." Other tables/groups were not as quiet when they were also asked to leave. It was awkward pretending to politely understand in order to avoid any kind of unwanted attention/social etiquette embarrassment. The tension in the air was thick and for all of these reasons we will never return/recommend this location. My friends wondered where I had even heard of this restaurant in the first place; they have never been so turned off or offended by service, and it was all because of my suggestion. read more

This is based on Chat Noir's Mother's Day brunch. The food was good, not great, and very overpriced. The overall experience left a lot to be desired. We were a party of four and they sat us at a table for three at most. As a result, my daughter was basically sitting in the middle of a doorway to the room we were in. Her chair kept getting bumped as people walked by. I asked if there was another option but was told no. I managed to pull out the table and move her seat so she was at least out of the way. They sat a table of three right after us at a table more suitable for four people, so not sure what the issue was. Just poor management. During the meal we never received water and we had to ask for a place setting several times. We also ordered three pots of tea, but only received one until we reminded the server as we were almost finished with our meals. My daughter's meal also came out about 15 minutes after ours. Overall, just not great. I will say our server was working hard serving people, cleaning tables, and bringing out food. I don't think they were properly staffed for a Mother's Day crowd. The main thing I would warn people about is to figure out how the bill will be calculated before going. It was Mother's Day, so maybe there were some charges we were not made aware of. Initially I had to leave a $50 deposit when I made the reservation. The credit was not applied to the bill and I had to chase down the server. So basically if I didn't notice, I was out that money. In addition, they added a 20% service charge to the table. Now if this was a general gratuity that's fine. A lot of places add gratuity. But in addition to this 20% service charge, they charged us another $20.80 for a tip under "custom item." Then, they left more space for an additional gratuity. I found it all very confusing and the server could not really explain it well. Bottom line, if you want to include a service charge indicate it at time of reservation or at least list it on the menu. Maybe if we went on a different day this review would be better. But Chat Noir is definitely not worth the money and I would absolutely ask about any gratuity/fees before eating. read more

I came here with my cousins and I had a great experience. It was a cute Paris theme tea room with beautiful decor and cute music. It reminded me of a emily in paris vibe from netflix lol. The place was big but I would recommend a reservation because it gets crowded. The service was very good and the food was to die for. I got the bottomless mimosas for $20 which was such a great deal. We ordered the scones to share which were to die for with butter and jam. I ordered the eggs Benedict crepe which was very good and hit the spot. Since I'm not fluent in speaking French or a linguistic expert by any means. When I first read the name of this restaurant I humored myself and said it sounds like French for "Chuck Norris" Amusingly, after googling the proper pronunciation of the word l quickly learned that I wasn't even close to pronouncing it correctly. It means Black Cat in French. Urban legend considers Black cats as bad luck if they cross your path. Fortunately for us all we had was Good luck as the food was simple and delicious served in a beautiful backdrop of classic furnishings and elegant table settings. We had the Afternoon tea which is served with chicken, egg and cucumber sandwiches. The scones were moist and crumbly and served with a delicious spread of clotted cream and jam. I love the creamy texture of the clotted cream which had a hint of sweetness. There were also many teas to choose from but we defaulted to the earl Grey with it's distinctive citrus fragrance that goes well with everything. I almost felt the childish need to stick my pinky out as I held the cup while taking tiny sips :) We also had the onion soup which was the soup of the day. The soup was rich and had pillowy globs of soft bread floating on top encapsulated with cheese. We had the Crabcakes Benedict - the crabcakes were light and I loved the balsamic vinegrette on the simple salad that was topped with feta. We also had the turkey, bacon and cheese croissant sandwich which was ok. The service here is top notch as the entire staff was polite and took care of our orders quickly and removed old plates and refilled our glasses quickly. This was my first time at this eatery. We came on a Sunday. Busy. Not many tables. Thankfully, there are two rooms for seating. I and a friend girl (she's eaten here before) decided to have the tea service. This includes a pot of tea, a mixture of scones, brownies, and tea sandwiches in a tower. Very French. The tea menu is flanked with caffeinated and decaffeinated brands, to include black currant and gingerbread. Despite this, our waitress (very pleasant) said they didn't have all the teas listed. On this visit, I found the scones hard, but tastey, especially with the jam provided. The brownies weren't cakey enough for us. Are the scones baked on premises? They didn't taste like it. In order to make our teas more palatable, we asked for brown sugar and honey. The waitress brought out my brown sugar in cups that resemble those one puts a little ketchup in. And the honey was brought out in a container similar to those purchased in a supermarket. We expected something more elegant considering the restaurant name and the ambiance the staff is trying to create. One thing that was odd to me: looking over to the left and seeing someone, a staffer? the manager? sitting at a desk replete with papers, working! Why couldn't this area be closed off from the guests? Maybe, it's me. Everyone else in the room appeared not to be bothered. Depending on when visiting, parking is challenging. Early dinner on Tuesday. Ordered a bacon and cheddar quiche which was delicious, came with a salad. Server asked the kitchen to split it for us since we were sharing which was very thoughtful. We came for the fish and chips which were pretty solid according to my British companion. Came out hot and fresh and so crispy, and also with malt vinegar, tartar sauce and ketchup. Creme brûlée had a great taste but could've been more brûléed. The dessert list selection was solid with cheesecake, chocolate mousse, bread pudding, gelato to pick from. I loved the chicken salad and egg salad but didn't care too much for the cucumber. The sandwiches were half of a regular sandwich and were filling to me. The bread was soft and fresh. To me, the sandwiches were a 7/10. The scones were amazing! I loved the chocolate chip and the cranberry with white chocolate chip. The scones came with jam and clotted cream, the latter of which was delicious on the scones. I'd say the scones were an 8/10. The pastries were decent. The swan-shaped puff was so pretty that it was painful to eat it. I enjoyed the cake, which tasted like gingerbread. The tart was yummy but I loved the puff most of all. The pastries were a 7/10. Last but not least was the tea. There were sooooo many selections it was hard to choose. I love love love tea so I was careful to choose something a bit different that I knew I'd enjoy. I opted for the Almond Sugar Cookie, a black tea that was just magical. A mix of almond flavoring and safflower blossoms, the tea was slightly sweet and very smooth. I enjoyed it immensely. To me, the tea was a solid 9/10. This is such a nice spot for brunch. The restaurant itself is cute and quaint, and I love the decor. The ambiance is really relaxing as well. I was very excited to come here for Mother's Day. This was my treat to myself. Came with my sister in law and two little girls. I made a reservation a month ago. I called a week before our reservation and they couldn't find the reservation. Good thing I called. So made another reservation for 1 pm. I got there exactly at 1 pm. Hostess points at a table to go sit there. We seat ourselves. No one comes to the table for 15 min. Finally I ask somebody who out waiter is. Someone comes 5 min later. So 20 min of just waiting. She comes up and doesn't explain anything and just asks what we want. I had looked up the menu before so I said I want the tea service for all of us. For adults it's $27 and kids $12. She tells us it comes with a alcoholic beverage which I don't remember seeing on the menu online. I tell her I don't want that. I just want the regular tea service. She insists it comes with it. I tell her I guess bring whatever you want. We did not drink it. It sat there the entire time. Food was good. Not great. The pastries were good. Sandwiches were something that I could make at home. Scones were okay. Not enough flavor. I had the almond biscuit tea which I loved. Towards the end I also ordered the French toast which was $16. Once again she's pushing the drink and I tell her I don't want it since we didn't even drink the first two. French toast was good. She only came to the table in a two hour period twice and that's after we had to hunt her down. She brings the bill which should have been max $100 plus tax and tip. It cost us $240. I asked her why the prices were almost double and she said it was a Mother's Day special (hence the drink). Nobody explained this to us. Nobody said that there was a different menu. $50 for French toast! If I had known I would have come on a regular day! I asked to speak to a manager who never came to the table but took 10% off which was definitely not enough. In the end I will not be coming back.
