Owner Kelly is friendly and personal, available on the property. Staff is helpful and friendly too. We love the location near our son who lives on the hill above Cottage Inn. Every time we pick a different room to experience with interesting decor, however our least favorite have the animal heads looking at you in bed! (: The setting and location are from a by gone (nostalgia) era which we love plus modern upgrades. The breakfasts are delicious, delivered to our room but we also enjoyed when there was a "communal buffet" in the main building where folks gathered to chat. We love the staff's efforts to be more "sustainable " but we were a bit disappointed that the breakfast was delivered with plastic and so much disposable wrappings. Reusable containers would be best. The Beach and surrounding are beautiful and well kept. Love the trees!

I stayed in a smaller room this time which was the Mountain Hideaway located all the way in the back corner. Since this unit doesn't have a full kitchenette the breakfast and free snacks at the office was included in my stay. But this room did have all you needed from a sink, to a fridge, and a electrified stove which I used to make breakfast one morning. The fridge gets really cold so just watch out your stuff on the top rack may freeze a bit. The room came with a nice tub which I used every night to relax my body. The heater they have in this room works really well and kept me and my doggies warm throughout the day and night. They come and clean your room everyday so this is a major reason why they request for your dogs to be well behaved. I'm coming back here again I hope in the summer. Its located 1 mile from Homewood resort so if you ski or snowboard it's really convenient, especially if your kids are fur babies. Thanks again for another amazing stay, and I'm glad I got to try the breakfast they made it was really good.

My experience is seriously outdated and may not reflect the current quality…read more Back in the winter of 1978, I was dead on my feet and in desperate need of a bed. I found the Truckee Hotel / Saloon & got a room. They told me about the shared bath down the hall. I thought, sarcastically, how quaint. I got to my room. Somewhere upstairs on the Eastern side. It was dark out and still snowing. My body found the bed and was attacked by a feather mattress! That new experience didn't last long as I was asleep the second my head hit the pillow. I was out cold until morning. The beautiful sunrise in the window filled the room. As I looked around, I was completely disoriented, having no clue where I was, or why I was there. Seeing the antique water bowl & pitcher along with the other decor, I felt as if I had traveled back in time. Then I went to the window. A thick blanket of snow covered everything. I was able to make out the outlines of a sawmill across the street. There was no activity outside. Several minutes had passed and I was still very confused. I opened the door and just a few steps down the hall I found the bath. Peeking in, I saw the clawfoot bathtub, sink, with pipes exposed on the walls. Only then did I remember the woman telling me about the bath down the hall. Finally after figuring out where I was, I was able to appreciate my surroundings. The room wasn't merely adequate, it was more on the spectacular side. Such attention to detail, as if it was still in the 1800s. That was the first and only time in my life when I made up a hotel bed after sleeping in it! I actually felt guilty that I had disturbed anuthing. I collected my few belongings and staggered down the stairs. Before I had the chance to ask, the same woman who had rented me the room asked how I wanted my coffee! My wife isn't even that fast! Back on life support, she asked if I was satisfied with my room and if I slept OK. I was completely honest & said that I didn't even look at it before I fell asleep. Then I was out cold until a few minutes ago. Once I figured out where I was, it was only then that I truly appreciated it. Even the shared bath was immaculate. All of that, especially the service was extremely uncommon in the 1970s. I really had gone back in time 100 years! After drinking about a gallon of coffee, I was able to venture outside. I found my new Ford 4x4 pickup covered in a couple feet of snow! I actually had to dig it out. By the time I was done, the Interstate was open and I headed back to Nevada, promising myself that I'd return someday when I had more time to appreciate it. While I've passed through Truckee many times since, I still never had the opportunity to stop. Someday I still plan to keep my promise. I've stayed at the full spectrum of hotels & motels but this has always been my favorite. Perhaps I was born in the wrong century. I hope that when I finally return, that it's still as great as I remember. This was the kind of place that I'd invite my parents to stay. They were extremely well off and only stayed in the finest accommodations. I know, without any doubt that while different than most places, that they would be very comfortable there. I hope it's still the same. One more thing... After sleeping on a feather mattress, I drained my waterbed and bought my own feather bed! I highly recommend this place!

The Bad: The room was "tired" and depressing with grime in the bathroom and carpet. The price was way too high for the poor condition of the room. Insensitive as well as hard to believe.
