Wine tasting in the time of COVID is a unique challenge! I was staying in Cambria but struggling to find places either open at all, or open early in the week for tasting. Yelp helped me find Chateau Margene a short drive away in Morro Bay, and I'm so glad it did! Street parking was no problem on a Monday afternoon, and I was greeted by Max as I walked in and given my choice of outside table for tasting. Max was awesome to taste and chat with (we have the same hometown, what a cool coincidence!), and he very graciously took me through their 5 offerings with helpful and unpretentious explanations. It was so pleasant to sit in the evening air, taste lovely wine without feeling any rush or pressure, and be able to talk as fellow humans without it being all business. Their wines are a little pricey, but also quite special. It's a place that won't necessarily be everyone's cup of tea, and I was enjoying their reds without being too exalted until I had my first taste of their cabernet sauv, and oh baby. A little steep at $68 a bottle, but I know when the time comes to drink it, I will remember those dark berry flavors, near the water, on a lovely winter night, alongside good company. And that is a feeling that has no price tag. I look forward to returning to Chateau Margene in Morro Bay, and visiting their main estate in Creston! Thank you to Max and the family for showing me a lovely time - you stand out where so many others blend in and fade away. Cheers!

Love, love the wine! Actually, I prefer their pinots under the Mooney label, but if you love Cabs, don't miss this place! Not a bargain winery, but you get what you pay for. So. if you don't mind paying for a top notch quality wine, I recommend checking out Chateau Margene. average price ($50 bottle). The overall experience could have been more favorable had the wine pourer not been so engrossed with two other female visitors. He could have done better, especially since I have been a wine club member for over ten years. Was hoping for better customer service. Also, for a different tasting experience, you can make reservations at the Creston site. Happy drinking! Cheers

Very pretty etched glass bottles of 2 of our favorites served!

Had a wonderful afternoon wine tasting here yesterday. It is a wonderful location and a winery that we have been wanting to stop by and visit. Will was great, serving us both a great wine flight and some delightful olive oil tastings as well. He was very knowledgeable about the wines served and also the surrounding vineyard areas. We always appreciate great conversation! 2 nice Pinot Noir's, a well balanced red blend, and of course 2 wonderful Cabernet's!! They clearly love what they are doing and it shows in their wine production and how they treat there customers. Added note...they are open for outside service, reservations can be made but not necessary. Thanks again Will! We will be back soon!

Love this place! Will is the best at pouring you just what you are looking for! Great wine! Great service! I can't say enough great things about this tasting room! Must visit if you come to Morro Bay.

Amazing!!! The man behind the counter, Will, was very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share stories of the entire wine process.

Girl's trip stop at Chateau Margene.

Being a novice of wine, all I knew was I liked "sweet wines" so my friend and I set out to find some on a trip to Morro Bay. Having struck out in one tasting room already, we tried again at Chateau Margene. Will told us they didn't have sweet wines per se BUT he was going to have me try their Chardonnay. I was sold!!! Several years (and many bottles of wine) later, all my trips to Morro Bay must now include a stop to see Will and pick up a bottle of Cold Steel or their equally tasty 2019 Chardonnay or Sparkling wine. If I can't choose, it's one of each! I couldn't be happier that an initial failed attempt to find a sweet wine lead us to Will and Chateau Margene (kismet )!

The views are beautiful, and depending on where you're seated, you can either enjoy the harbor scenery or spend some time people-watching. The artwork on the wine labels is stunning and adds a unique touch to the experience. I also appreciated the stories behind the wine names, the focus on small-batch production, and especially the charity bottle program. It's clear that a lot of thought and passion go into the brand. As for the wines themselves, they just weren't a fit for my palate, particularly at the price point. I recognize that wine preferences are highly personal, and there were others around the tasting room who seemed to enjoy them much more than I did. I also felt that the tasting experience could have been more engaging. Our server was pleasant not the most engaging, we felt like we were bothering her. Overall, I appreciated the creativity, mission, and atmosphere, even though the wines and tasting experience didn't quite resonate with me.

I think what makes this place special is that there's a story behind each bottle of wine and unique label by an artist to go with the story. It was hard to choose between the wines we liked and the art on the bottles lol. But they did say you can have any art label put on the bottle you wanted, but to is the story wouldn't match. In the end we got wines we liked and the art we wanted. Definitely coming back!

I tried to ask someone one time where the tasting room is and they weren't very friendly. But now it is very clearly marked and I was easily able to find it on my own this time. You can tell it's been newly remodeled. My friends and I decided to do the tasting. All of us like white wine only. They have a few selections but of course the one I really wanted to try wasn't available that day. And that was ok. They gave me 6 tokens to give one each time i wanted my next tasting. Well sine they didn't have one of the wines I wanted and white wine was more limited I asked if I could turn in two chips for two tastings of the same wine. And I did this also so I didn't have to come in and bother them as soon for another pour of the same thing. I was told they don't do that .... But then they did. It just doesn't make sense to me. I also was trying to be nice and I just felt like she was wasn't super friendly. This place has a gorgeous set up outside. They have nice comfy seating or high top tables which overlook the rolling green hills. This time of the year is absolutely beautiful. I can see the warmer months not being as pretty because I'm sure everything turns brown. I also loved watching the animals down below. The scenery was so majestic. I will definitely be back again. This will probably be on my list of "must visits" every time I visit Cambria. There are just certain places you that you always remember and must go back to, and this is one of them for me.

I'm sure you've heard of and tasted many of their items. Today it's wine with lunch. I picked up six for an anniversary celebration. This group forced me to sit and enjoy lunch with them. I was told by the "wonderful owner (a few years back) that this property is the only winery and restaurant in the country with a Michelin Star. I know it's difficult to obtain, I'm not sure how long that star lasts either. 90% percent of the dining is done on the patio surrounding the main room Our server Carley, she was pleasant and tolerated the guests (us) she served. I really wanted the tomahawk pork chop but I settled with the spring salad and a small portion of King Salmon. Justin's is known for their Burger and a side of truffle fries will put you back a bit. if you have to ask.... The wine was brought out one white and one red. I don't drink but both flavors were applauded. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water. The stories flowed, I didn't really know these folks, they were good AG people from Bakersfield. So we got acquainted, the most annoying thing were the flies. They had those table top fly spinners but on another table so that didn't help us much. The food was delicious, no question although the pasta dish with chicken for L had a very long and dark hair on it you really couldn't miss it. Other than that excitement we all enjoyed our meal. I had a couple slices of the pork, not as tender as I would have thought but it tasted real good. Salad a tad small but flavorful. I missed out on dessert, the wine was enough. Overall a very nice setting with a casual pace, perfect for those special occasions. There are way better wineries in Paso like Daou and Sculpterra. The people there care for your experience and every wine you taste is great and doesn't change with every sip. This place mostly was focused on extracting money. I went there because they were recommended by so many friends to me. That's probably where they are lucky. That's why people visit them and because they are so hyped the person visiting has to also like them. The employees here are not motivated enough to be nice or attend the guests properly during the end of the day. The lady on the front desk in front of the entry was super rude. In a 3 mins conversation she mentioned at least 4 times how they were about to close and they are unable to provide us anything except the wine tasting. We had an appointment for 3:30 and the winery closes at 5:00. I would have understood if it was 4:30. I was celebrating my birthday and I mentioned it. It literally meant nothing to her and she never mentioned it in her notes while she mentioned that they will do a chocolate flight with a candle. The guy who helped us with our wine tasting was good but visibly tired. He tried his best. Even arranged a charcuterie board for us. He did mention they were about to close but that made sense. He was genuinely happy to see us when we went inside to pay. The only good deed done to us was asking us if we needed waters for the road. Also I liked the breezy fan feature. The wines are not very appealing. A lot better can be done with the taste, recipes and fermentation process. The prices are very high for the experience and the wines. Next day we went to another winery with Amazing views. They were so welcoming and warm and the moment I mentioned I was celebrating my birthday they were extra pampering. There wine flights were appropriately priced.Every wine we tasted was great and even after my wine purchase I did not feel robbed. That was some unforgettable experience. At Justin our experience was DULL and TIRING and not good at all. I am never going to recommend Justin to anyone. PS- Don't go there because people are mentioning it the moment they hear Paso Robles. There wines are no better than the wines you get at the medium shelf of the drugstore. Views are just OK. Use your money at a better winery.
