I really didn't think my online order was difficult; California Chicken Club but on a roll. I got the regular bread, something sweet is going on in there, no avocado and the bacon is just gross. New to Waltham area and very impressed with this place! The food was simply delicious (but more about that in a minute), drinks were well poured, staff was super friendly and worked like a well oiled machine at dinner time. Its a large operation and seemed very well organized. Now about the food. The menu is extensive. Everything we tried we would order again. The toasted ravioli, which is apparently one of their signature items, was the best i've ever had. The meat marinara that they're served with was excellent. For my main course I got the Italian Trio of Eggplant Parm, Meatballs and Sausage over ziti. Again the sauce was a step above, as were all three main items. My husband got the Shrimp Alfredo, which was also great but had more of a mac n cheese texture as opposed to a really creamy alfredo. Shared the brownie sundae for desert which was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I think the rest of the food was so amazing the poor sundae had a tough act to follow! We then stopped in the bar for one more round of drinks. Great time! Bartenders were friendly and hilarious. Lots of locals but they made us feel right at home. Some old timers had us cracking up at the bar. All in all we will definitely go back! read more

I took my family here for dinner and was pleased overall. We got seated with about a 30 min wait on a Saturday night, so that's not bad considering the amount of people here. I have come here twice with a party of at least 10. Service was fine both times and there were items for everyone on the menu. I really enjoy coming here. It reminds me of a place I used to frequent as a kid too. My favorite dish so far is the grilled eggplant with whole wheat pasta. The eggplant melts in my mouth. It is light and portion is reasonable. Most other portions are too big so we just take it home. Other items ordered and enjoyed were eggplant parm with out cheese on top, gnocchi and Fettuccine Alfredo. Kids get there own menu and crayons too which is a big plus. read more

The pre-cooked take out Thanksgiving turkey breast dinner was fantastic!!! For $37.00 we received enough food for 4 meals for 2 of us. We had yummy tender turkey breast (not a turkey roll or pressed turkey meat but slices) fresh butternut squash, real garlic mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, tons of gravy and a loaf of Italian bread. We both are sticklers for fresh wholesome food and this fit the bill perfectly and was easy to heat and serve. We are hoping that we can do the same for Christmas dinner. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I had a $17.00 lunch which was one overdone piece of chicken (no pasta, no salad) and a few toasted raviolis. What a joke this place is. I arrive for lunch at 3:15 and I'm told it's only the dinner menu. So I order chicken parm and toasted raviolis. It comes to $17 bucks! What I get is a single piece of chicken a few toasted raviolis, their bad attitude and "agida". Total waste of money. Nice job! This experience cost you a bad review and a lost customer: myself and my business. But they don't care. Most of the photos shown here currently are too dark to be of much use. They don't come near to doing justice to the restaurant or staff. My friend and I, both now senior citizens on fixed incomes, have shared meals in restaurants a minimum of once a month for 45 years. She is legally blind and we both use walkers to maintain our balance; the wait staff asks us each time if they could move our walkers so as not to block the aisles and they will bring them to us when we are ready to leave. "The Chateau", Waltham, has become our favorite restaurant in New England. A mid-priced family Italian restaurant with a handicap access ramp across the front of the building, with much parking is available; we find it to be a pleasant & comfortable place to dine with a well trained wait staff; not perfect but excellent none-the-less. The Chateau is on 2 levels with 3 dining rooms and a bar/lounge on the entry level. I'm unable to go down to the lower level dining area to check it out. At our last visit we both changed from our favorite meals (chicken parmigiana and veal parmigiana both preferring Angel Hair pasta) to the fried seafood platter. I have been known to skip a meal that contains scallops. Feeling open-minded - OK, I forgot to cancel the scallop portion - I have learned to be flexible in my 65 years, I ate the scallops. Absolutely delicious, as were the shrimp and small/mid-size clams and surprisingly small fish portion. We changed our fries upon ordering to delicious onion rings. The meal comes with fresh Italian bread and butter. We were both pleasantly full so we avoided desert. Hmmm. I guess the fish portion was the right size after all. On the way out I purchased a jar of sauce and a loaf of Italian bread, stopping at the Massachusetts Lottery vending machine for a couple of (non-winning,lol) $1 instant win scratch tickets. I was satisfied though as a previous visits' ticket won me $200. Not bad for a man who plays the lotto once a month. Having now eaten at two of this chains locations I comfortable with the 2 stars. Large portions sizes of semi packaged tasting food offered at a mid price range. Firstly, don't walk into the Chateau with your fancy pants on and expect 'authentic' Italian food... you're at the wrong place. If you're looking for good, cheap eats then you're on target. The waltham location, in particular can be a bit scary. The Gold room has these horrible paintings of... I guess famous people, perhaps painted by a 10 year old... so what. It's something to look/laugh at. I'm not there for the decor, I'm here for some good eats! Toasted rav's are a must. And the ice cream cake roll with hot fudge sauce is awesome. It's a bit of a blue hair place (they have early bird specials), but I still like it. We are regulars. Sesame Bread is a signature, do not fill up on it. The food is consistent and good. Gravy is flavorful - chose between several variations - ask your server. Cocktails are stiff and fairly priced. Beer is cold. Service is friendly and efficient. Some favorites: Italian combo's, toasted ravioli, pizza, steak tips, grilled veggies, sauted broccoli, salads. Unexpected, but the cheeseburger is also fantastic. We prefer the lounge to the dining rooms, but its just a personal preference, food and service is similar throughout. read more

This is our go too! We have been coming here for years and is tough to compare too. Everytime we have gone, I have never been dissappointed, it is as good as the time before. I must admit I order the same thing almost everytime, as does everyone else in my family. To start out, the bread is phenomenal, always fresh and doughy! The toasted raviolis are TO DIE FOR! If you are ever here, you NEED to order these. Hands down, best dish here. Baked stuffed shrimp, Chicken, Broccoli and Ziti, Fettuccine Alfredo and the Salmon are all delicious. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal at The Chateau. The waitstaff is remarkable. Very friendly and attentive if you give them a chance. Working with the public is not easy. Treat them as you would want to be treated, with respect. Some of these employees are working double shifts and have been on their feet all day. Maybe because another employee had to call in because of an emergency. It is not fair to complain on social media without first speaking to a manager in a calm respectful way. Constructive criticism about the menu and quality goes a long way when you approach it privately and respectfully. Kindness and respect goes both ways. Imagine if this was your families business or employees being degraded. This family has done so much for the Waltham community. It is truly a shame that people forget this. read more

I don't understand why this place has some bad reviews. I originally went there six years ago, for the first time with my parents and sister on a trip here before I moved here. We stayed in this hotel and Waltham and the concierge recommended that we'd try this place as it was both affordable and good. We loved it. The ambiance, the service, the staff and food were just awesome. This place has history and it shows... Their menu proudly says that they are now celebrating their 75th year of being around in Waltham. That's just awesome. Then I went back to France and moved here finally 3 and a half years ago. I forgot about this place to be honest but drove by it yesterday with my girlfriend and immediately recognized it and jotted down the name. Tonight we went there for dinner and it was just as good as I remembered it not better. I cleared my plate completely and so did my girlfriend. We left both satisfied and full. Although the décor could be a little better it was perfectly fine and quite different. They have multiple, big rooms and their staff was quick and very efficient to greet us and take care of us. Our drinks were served with a free order of delicious scali bread with butter. Man that bread was sooo good. I was stunned! Then we placed our orders. I had the Classic Italian Trio which was $13 and featured Chicken Cutlet Parmigiana, Fettucine Alfredo & Toasted Ravioli. Great flavor and great value. I was very happy. My girlfriend had the other trio, which instead of ravioli, had lasagna. We were stuffed and it was just great. This place also has a huge parking lot which is always a plus since parking to various restaurants is usually always a pain in the ass. I do recommend this place if your sick of the high prices of the North End and if you want a good, Italian meal in a casual, pleasant environment. read more

I got their Italian Combo consisting of chicken parm, eggplant parm, and a big meatball. I swapped out the pasta for angel hair pasta which ended up being quite good. The chicken parm wasn't that good though. No discernable taste to it, which is pretty hard for breaded chicken topped with tons of cheese. That was disappointing. The eggplant parm wasn't baked well either. It was rather soggy but fortunately not slimy. There was a good thick eggplant but that often creates texture issues when cooking. The meatball was great. Seasoned well and very tasty. Overall a decent meal for about $14.50. The angel hair was an extra cost to the $13 special but I did really want to try their ravioli so I might stop by again. read more

When my family is in town you often will find us going here and we'll get "Nana's favorite" the toasted raviolis. If you have a nig group, you can call and get a reservation. Food here is decent. I mostly go to play Keno while I eat lunch. The toasted ravioli are their best item if you're in the mood for pasta. Soup sandwich combos are decent too. Considering it's the Chateau, I have to say I have been suprisingly impressed with theire food on both occasions I've been there. I agree with some reviewers that you sort of go there knowing what it is - a local institution, with probably mediocre food. However, I ordered the grilled eggplant parmigiana from the "598 and under" part of the menu with a mixed green salad. It was great - simply prepared, and very healthy! Two long slices of grilled eggplant, marinara sauce, and topped with shredded parmesan melted under the broiler. My bf had chicken parmigiana - unless it's homemade, it doesn't get much better - properly cooked chicken, not swimmig in sauce or cheese. So delicious. The one thing I don't understand is the menu. Its an italian restaurant. Why are they serving guacamole and asian salads? Robert Irvine & Gordon Ramsey would cringe at the menu. There is WAY to much and there are too many strange items - guacamole, reuben, burger, california chicken club??? They need to get rid of these random items and stick to the italian food. This was my second time going and was very looking forward to it. First was great. I even bought several hundreds of gift certificates. But last night was horrible from the get go and only got worse. Had reservations for 4 at 7pm. They sat us at a 4 top with only settings for 2. Took pur drink order and apps. Brought bread to table and reminded him only 2 settings. Apps. Came still only 2 settings. Guess he wanted me to spread my butter on bread with a finger and eat my salad with my hands. Hot dinners came but 2 were warm and 2 were cold. All 4 were different pasta dishes. Had to ask several times to refresh drinks. Didn't ask how our meals came out or how they were until end of meal. Then bill came with overcharges. When I brought it to his attention he question me if I was correct and said he would have to talk to the manager. He came back with a correct bill and never bothered to apologize for his mistake. It wasn't that crowed. My wife thought he was New, I thought he just had a bad attitude and didn't want to be there. He also didn't know the menu. It was fun to finally visit the original Chateau. I started out with the minestrone soup, my wife with a salad. Both were excellent. For our entree, I ordered the baked lasagna, my wife the baked manicotta. While the red sauce was excellent, I thought there could have been a larger portion. I thought the lasagna was abit on the dry side. The manicotta, however, along with the side of meatballs were each outstanding! Thought the bread, while certainly fresh and good, is a bit overrated. What is not overrated is the service and people watching - one is excellent, the other endlessly entertaining. Like being on the set of Goodfellas! Loved it, we'll be back! read more

The Chateau has always been the place to go in Waltham with or without your family for an inviting, comfortable setting with Italian/American fare at a reasonable price.
