Had some work in the area so I grabbed food from a couple pizza shops in Belmont + Watertown recently. Really happy with the experience I had at nicks. Workers were friendly both times I went, and the pizza is good Greek style pizza. Pizza + Greek salad with house dressing was awesome and brought me back. Wow! Just stopped in for a slice of pepperoni pizza and paid with a $5 bill and got 20 cents back! This is not one of those places that a slice is basically a whole quarter of a medium size pizza, that is to say about two "normal" slices wide. If anything this was a below average slice. What a shame. I've had some solid meals here in the past, but my latest experience will keep me from coming back for a long time. I ordered my go-to: a buffalo chicken sub (blue cheese and lettuce on top if that matters to you). I was beyond disappointed in what I received. I placed my order at ~7:50 and arrived a few minutes after 8. They said 20 minutes. I expected to wait, but it was ready upon arrival. That should have been my first clue. I come back home, open my sub, and find my decidedly cold. Not kind of cold kind of hot. Nope, freakin' cold. What an embarrassment. If I was in the restaurant business (which I am not), I would be embarrassed to serve the buffalo chicken sub to a customer. The saving grace for Nick's review is the fries were warm, an unspoken, yet understood at least in my household, rarity. Again, a shame since I've had some solid meals here. read more

The pizza has changed! (July 2019). It is now has a super thick crust & a ton of cheese. The flavor is very good but the ratio of dough to sauce to cheese renders the overall flavor experience mediocre. The price of two pizzas has also increased by a few bucks. Got Seafood sub (ordered with lettuce and tomato, delivered without), spinach roll (like and egg roll, but with spinach and cheese), and Greek Salad (quite good: fresh lettuce, great dressing...although it was more like a peppercorn ranch than a traditional greek...and I think there was mozzerella instead of feta) The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed that they repeated the oft-reported "took my order wrong", even it was as minor as no lettuce and tomato. Order estimated at 30-45 minutes delivery, actually came in around 55 min. I have gone to Nick's Place II many times since it first opened after much anticipation as it took over the location that used to be The Italian Food Shop which was a dive but had decent pizza. The totally redone Nick's place is in a very convenient location and they do a lot of business because of their location. The thing that I like here is the sirloin steak tips which are reasonably priced and better than average. You can get them in a sub or the way I prefer in a salad. The steak tip salad for about 8 dollars is very good, though it is made with your standard iceberg lettuce. Ask them to hold the feta or you will have that surprise as it is a Greek style pizzeria as are most around Boston unfortunately. The pizza is your standard Greek fare: fake/bad cheese, same sauce you find anywhere out of the can and greasy. The pizza deserves one star. Their steak and cheese sub is pretty good and they give you an ample amount. The service here is a bit gruff but not in a mean way. Also, if you are looking for late night, they often close earlier than the 10 or 10:30PM posted. The place is packed at lunch time when they do most of their business. read more

Well, I know what I like, and I would definitely have Italian food from Nick's again next time we are visiting my bf's family! His parents got take-out from their fave place around the corner for us - twice! Loved their spaghetti and meatballs (tasty, tender and mmm good!) and their cheese pizza (piping hot fresh from the oven, cheese-y and yummy tomato sauce - oh we loved it and we ate it up!). I am still dreaming about that pizza as we are back in San Francisco now. Next time we are in town, we are definitely ordering from Nick's again. I love the tuna salad salad. So good. It's hard to find something on the menu that isn't good - and I've tried almost every kind of sub and salad they serve here. There is alot of seating, and the people are really nice, and really quick. It gets a little crowded with cops and kids from the high school, but it's worth it to get good pizza, ecc! My first time here easily was about 4 stars. We just got two subs and fries but the people working there were nice and the food tasted fresh. Less than two miles from out house this seemed perfect. Last night we go again, this time I get a sub and the husband a small pizza. I called in the order and thought all was fine. Small cold veggie with mayo and provolone and his pizza, ok and some fries. He gets back from picking it up and I unwrap my sub, it's not cut in half. Weird, but I can work with it. Then I look inside, it's lettuce, tomato and onion. No cheese. No mayo. I was already having one of those days and now this was adding to it. Yes, I know, minor error but when you have to drive back and get it and you're starving it kind of stinks. He was nice enough to call and explain what happened. They offer to make another one and ask if I want hots on it, to which I say yes. He goes and picks it up. To make up for the error they gave me a large, which was a nice gesture, but there's no hots which they specifically asked me about. I'm not going to write them off yet, they'll get one more shot. I have faith. The husband's pizza was good, so that will save them for now! read more

Good solid lunch spot. I pretty much order the same thing every time: chicken kabob salad. You get a nice salad with a huge amount of chicken on top. I tried the steak tip salad. Tasty, but by volume you get about 1/3 the amount of steak vs. the amount of chicken. I've never had the pizza and never will, so I can't comment on that. For three or more years, twice a week, get lunch here. The Greek salad with feta is excellent....always. Fresh lettuce. The feta cheese, has a nice bite to it. Sometimes get Greek salad topped with chicken salad, or Tuna salad on it. Both excellent. Large size, moderate prices. I don't get the pita or dressing, instead get straight oil which is on my low carbs diet. I like that its a family that owns and works there. Might they forget something in a sub? It's possible. But I've ordered the roast beef sandwich with mayo, BBQ sauce, pickles, onions, etc .......delivered as expected....big and good. I'm getting hungry. read more

Roast beef is a Boston thing, and I'm not sure whether it should be served on an onion roll, but I did not like that choice. Everyone says Nick's does amazing roast beef, and the beef was good. Next time I'd order it on something that doesn't overpower the flavor of the beef with the taste of dried onions. The chicken fingers were chicken fingers; impossible to mess those up. read more

I gave it 4 stars so people would read it but frankly, it is not that good. I got an Italian Sub and when i got home it was all lettuce. We made it into a salad. They use shaved iceberg and it is cheap stuff. It was piled a mile high. The cold cuts they use are very cheap quality. They don't wrap their subs in aluminium foil so it is a mess when you open it. They use the cheapest stuff they can and the lowest quality they can. There were 2 thin slices of meat in the entire sub. What a disgrace and it was $8. A rip off. Don't get their subs. The place is dingy and the windows are so high you stare at a dirty wall. The bottles have been in the window for years. The portions, well, after you eat you are still hungry. I don't think this business is doing well because they are giving the image of desperate proportions. read more

No stars are to be deserved at this place. Unfortunately I have to give it one.. to post this. My family and I wanted to try this place out because it was recommended by a family friend. We ordered for dinner and got home with our food. The following reasons are why we'll never return. One our chicken broccoli Alfredo had NO chicken OR broccoli in it. It was just pasta with thin Alfredo sauce. Two our steak tip sub wasn't even steak tips it was crumbled up ground beef. Three our Italian we ordered with fixings had no fixings on it, they were put on the side because they forgot. Four our shrimp broccoli Alfredo had one piece of shirmp in it. Oh and let me add in there was hair in my food. This place is an absolute disgrace. The manager is extremely rude. I called for a refund the following day and she told me "it's against our policy because you called the next day". Well never be returning. read more

Having been to the Nick's Place in Lexington I was a little disappointed in #2. Servie was truculent to say the least but I can deal. The place was pretty messy even tho it was mid-afternoon on a quiet day. I can also deal. What I couldn't deal with was the beef that day. To me a "North Shore" style sandwich, 3 way of course, the beef has to be rare, tender, and at least luke warm, not stone cold like roast beef at a deli.
