This place used to be 5 stars, my husband and friends and I would go often for the amazing avocado toast, fresh eggs, excellent coffee, and wonderful service. Well, all but the coffee have changed significantly! Avocado toast was previously best I had had (and I'm an LA native... so I've had a lot). This time tasted tangy and expired with less tomato and different bread. Overall pretty bad. Eggs were cold. Arugula was wilted. Bacon was basically burnt. They charged for everything including coffee refills which were previously free. Jam with my bread was even charged!!! And all this after we had tipped at the register (it's a fast casual restaurant not requiring tip). I dunno what happened to this place but I'm highly disappointed. Used to be my go-to, and now I wish I didn't spend the money this morning there. read more

Food (5/5): I was never a huge fan of croissants until someone recommended trying the ones served at Chaumont. After one bite, you quickly realize how special they are. Apparently, the key ingredient is the French butter. This helps produce a light, slightly crispy, and delicious croissant. It's pure magic! Try their other pastries as well, such as the banana Nutella tart. Service (4/5): The cashiers I've encountered were friendly and helpful. Upon ordering, the pastries were delivered in a short period of time. Be sure to ask for butter and jam with the croissants plus a carafe of water. Atmosphere (5/5): Inside, it was well lit, but never too bright. The dining area was clean, there were plenty of tables, and it wasn't too noisy. I was working around the corner and had to kill time while waiting for a customer to arrive for a meeting. I happened across this little bakery and decided to hang out on the sidewalk tables with a coffee and tried the butter croissant. I'll admit I didn't eat many croissants that didn't have ham and cheese in them probably because not many bakeries know how to make a decent croissant. At $3.50 I only got one because I never heard of a croissant over $2.00 but this is Beverly Hills so you play along or starve. This was truly an eye opener that ruined me as far as croissants are concerned. It was the best pastry I ever tasted and I quickly went in and bought a few more. We landed the project so I ended up a regular here and would often buy a dozen to share with people back at the office. I've also got up on a couple Saturday mornings with no plans and drove 40 miles here to get these damned croissants! I've tried every bakery in the Torrance and Lomita area but nothing comes close. Very awkward hovering over tables hoping you'll score a table before your counter-ordered food comes out. Worst part: No coffee refills. This used to be my favorite French bakery in Beverly Hills. I would look forward to our trips to LA just so I could go here. We went here yesterday and had a whole other experience, the lady at the front cash register was so rude. I explained version of an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich that I have gotten many times. She didn't really understand what I was saying even though I was just getting the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, with feta cheese instead of regular. She ended up charging me sixDollars over what it normally would cost. I ended up reviewing my bill and saw the miss charge, she did end up giving me my money back. She had to add a snide comment while doing so, about ordering the right sandwich next time. The food was delicious as always, the orange juice for five dollars was warm. Not the best experience. Hands down the absolute most heavenly croissant ever, ever, EVER. So much flaky goodness. I feel like I've been missing out my whole life with all of the subpar croissants I had up to now. I didn't know that croissants were supposed to be this amazing. Friends were doing a staycation and asked to meet up around their hotel. Well, seating here sucks - not the best meet up place for more than 2 people...so we decided to go next door to Walters. BUT before we did, I got what I came for- a delicious croissant. I bought two butter croissants and a "suisse" something - basically a long chocolate croissant. I ate the chocolate one for dessert as soon as we got home, and I was under whelmed as it didn't seem cooked through. I wanted to throw it in the toaster oven to crisp it up, but was too lazy and settled for it being "just eh." Plus I was super anxious to taste it based on all of the reviews. I almost wrote a review with three stars. Glad I didn't because.... The next morning, I threw one of the butter croissants into the toaster oven and brought out some homemade strawberry jam - and almost died and went to heaven. No, really. The croissant was so crispy and flaky...so buttery...so delicate...so f'ing amazing. Everything that you knew croissants were supposed to be but just can't understand til you actually have one done THIS right. I couldn't wait to have the second one for dinner. Was around the Beverly Hills area and wanted to grab some breakfast at a relatively early hour prior to looking at some watches. Drove around and found this joint on yelp and decided to check it out as it was getting some early morning traffic. There are parking spots up and down the street so should be straight forward to find spots especially in the AM. The joint itself is quaint and only holds up to approximately 16 seats within the dining area itself on the left side. On the right side is the stacked bakery items and the menu boards to order coffee or food. Before I dive any further, yes this place is pricey so for those who are looking for something cheaper, this is probably not your spot. I could see this rubbing some people the wrong way from a cost/benefit analysis not to sound too geeky for a second but wanted to provide fair warning. The folks working behind the counters are super nice albeit it a bit slow. They were familiar with the menu items and were able to point out the most popular items. I decided to buy a few items for the family nearby and got the Moroccan Breakfast, Pain au chocolat, almond croissant, and something else (which I cant remember the name right now) but was flat and had chocolate chips baked into it. All the bakery goods were really solid with the flakiness of the bread and the buttery goodness to it. The Almond croissant was packed with flavor as was the pain au chocolat. These guys definitely know how to make mean croissants. The Moroccan Breakfast was a nice hearty option which came with tomato sauce, lamb sausage, kale, eggs, and cilantro. It was pretty solid and definitely a nice hearty way to start the morning. All in all, a good experience and while the price tag was north of $40 for all of this plus coffees, still a solid breakfast. read more

Wonderful little breakfast spot in Beverly Hills! I came here for breakfast on Wednesday and the place was fairly crowded with a steady stream of people coming in for pastries and coffee in the morning so I can only assume it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. The food was delicious and they had a nice array on their menu. I know I'll be back to try more of their breakfast entrees but I also urge everyone to try their pastries!! The pain suisse is a chocolate lover's dream, it was deliciously chocolaty, flaky, and large enough to be split between two or three people. The space is a little small but there are many tables available both inside and outside. Also, the price point may be a little high but its to be expected to eat breakfast al fresco in Beverly Hills. Meter parking is available on Beverly Dr. as well as the side streets. There is also a parking structure with free two hour parking available on Beverly Dr., south of Charleville Blvd. read more

A great place to come for a weekend brunch. They have a menu with both selections of food, coffee, and pastries. I know this place is famous for the pastries but unfortunately we didn't get to try it that day. I got the salmon eggs Benedict and my husband got the wild salmon bowl. Both foods tasted great and very fresh. My only problem was that the side salad that came with my dish was kind of wilted and really made me lose my appetite and not want to eat more. Other than that I would say the service is great and I like the ambience of the place overall. I will have to come back and give this place another try. I was in the area for a business meeting and I arrived one hour early, so I saw this bakery across the street and thought it was a good choice for a quick Latte. I added and almond croissant to my order and WOW! I was transported to Paris during the first bite! It's actually the first time I have ever found a croissant to rival that of Paris in the US. Many try, but end up with a giant sphere of 'air' that has no crunch and zero flavor. Flaky, buttery, not too sweet... did I mention flaky? The delightful crunch and aftertaste of butter stayed with me all day. I never thought this was possible in the states. I went there for a Latte and now I am a devoted apostle to what I believe is the only French bakery in the US. Give me that bite again! Went in not expecting anything particularly special. Boy was I wrong. My brother and I got 2 sandwiches: the turkey brie and the chicken. I wasn't able to taste the chicken sandwich but my brother told me it was really good. The brie sandwich was excellent. It had a little bit of sweetness from the caramelized onions and apple sauce. I know brie isn't for everyone, but it's one of my favorites. They used a cranberry walnut bread: (i think?) for my sandwich and a baguette for the chicken sandwich. Both served with an arugula salad. Okay. On to what I really wanted to review: the chocolate croissant and croissant. Our favorite pastry shop has to be Amandine on Wilshire in Santa Monica where we usually get our tasty croissants. We were so surprised the moment we took a bite of the croissant. It's so flakey and crunchy and doughy. I can't even begin to describe how it is. Hands down the best croissant I've ever eaten. I strongly urge anyone to give it a try. read more

Chaumont is a pretty stereotypical basic socal insta-worthy spot. The food is pretty and the wait is long. Things are expensive, but everything tasted good, which cannot be said for a lot of other comparable places. The space is small and on the older side, although there are some cute walls to use as backdrops for your social media needs. We thought we would be smart and have a couple of us stake out a table while the others in our group waited in line to order, but we got yelled at. No table claiming till after you've placed your order -- noted. I visited at 11am on a Saturday and it seemed like 75% of their pastries were sold out. No almond croissants to be found, sad day. The smoked salmon sandwich was good but nothing remarkable. The breakfast sandwich was yummy and the oven baked eggs were unique. The tea is from tea forte, which is one of my faves and comes in a cute pyramid tea bag with a mini green leaf on top. The standouts were the Le Frasier strawberry cake and the cranberry nut baguette with Bonne Maman strawberry jam. Both were expensive for the size, but I guess maybe normal by LA standards. I would say that Chaumont is cute and worth a stop if you happen to be in the area and are out and about early enough to snag one of the more popular pastries. But otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. Although it's a solid choice, there are plenty of other amazing bakeries in the city that are comparable or better in taste, ambiance, and creativity. read more

One can tell by looking at my Yelp profile that I don't write a lot of reviews. When I do it's either because something is so good or so bad that it deserves mention. Example Chaumont Bakery Beverly Hills this morning. I know Ludo LeFevre has touted this place as the best croissants he's ever had outside of Paris but it's clear that those days have come and gone. My girlfriend and I have been going to this place since the day that they opened and have enjoyed countless meals there. The young French couple who either have sold the business or are no longer running the day to day have not been seen in sometime. Over the past six months to a year we've seen a steady decline in the quality of service as well as the food but today was so bad that it deserves mention. Let me preface this further by saying I have some experience with this as I've managed restaurants for some of the most famous chefs on the planet. Furthermore that one bad experience does not speak to the entirety of the business and my intent is not to trash the place but to give an honest critique in hopes that they'll take heed to these public criticisms to better themselves and make the necessary changes to continue to thrive. First and it is not a big deal but the day after the 4th of July I order a coffee with almond milk and they are out we are told. Okay, not for nothing but there are 2...TWO grocery stores a short walk away. This is both bad management, lazy and screams that they don't care about all of their customers needs or wants, just some. Secondly and lastly we both ordered croissants as we have done on MANY occasions so we are quite familiar with them. Both stale and so obviously so, like not a little bit but totally. I ate mine because well I was starving and didn't want to make a scene but my girlfriend refused to and quietly mentioned it to the server whose response was that it can't be, they are all fresh today. That they are all the same. This is not true and here's why. Since the nice couple who owned it and who were making them fresh disappeared the croissants and pastries have changed. Almost like they are being made elsewhere and shipped in. If that is the case and I only suspect, yesterday being the 4th of July these items were either baked elsewhere on the 3rd and delivered today or dropped off the evening of the 3rd and sat around until today the 5th. One of these things is true. Either way they were anything but fresh and to insist they are is doing a disservice to your customers. It's these little things, these little nuances that create a trickle, a slow gravitational pull of your customer base away to other local businesses that in time leave you standing around wondering what happened with faded, paper signs to post in the window that exclaim 'Under New Management'. Pity when the reason and the answers were right there in front of you the entire time if you cared enough to pay attention to the signs and details early on.
