Nastaglia! Arcade games that I grew up with and of course the checkered couch that I love! The pizza is one of the best i have ever had! Hawaiian Deluxe with green peppers! Yes, pineapple belongs on pizza!

We stopped in for a late night bite. Pizza is delicious. Free OG arcade games and pinball. Staff super nice. I can't recommend this place enough.

This place has become a neighborhood staple for us! We get them at least monthly. We're originally from NY, so I was quite happy when I found out they have a pepperoni new york style crust. Yes, you can fold it in half and eat it with one hand! (We add hot honey when we're home.) We also tried: - Hawaiian (subtly sweet, balanced) - Veggie (very cheesy and stuffed with veggies) - Spinaci Rigot (spare sausage, delicious cheese, spinach. Our new fav) They're all very good! The service is always very kind. I've seen the owner greet customers regularly. Be mindful that orders always take 20-30 mins so forget whatever seamless or Uber eats tell you. I just shop around the area or time my arrival. We never stayed to eat but there are a handful of tables. Very retro decor, from the clock to the pinball machine. It's quite charming! Definitely give them a try!

In a random strip mall on West Main Road stand Checkers. Big signs saying NOW OPEN let you know to come on in. Inside is a retro vibe, with Pac-Man machines and the Three Stooges playing on the big screen. After a warm greeting, our order was taken and we sat in the dining area until our pie was ready. The pizza arrived, glossy and PIPING hot. A little greasy from the pepperoni but I like it that way. After 4 slices it was still so hot it could burn my mouth if I wasn't careful. The cheese had great taste and great pull. Picture worthy, for sure! The sauce was savory, robust and a stand out of the pie. The crust was crispy from first bite to last and full of flavor. This isn't the first time I've been to Checkers and it certainly won't be the last. Solid pie, probably one of the best on Aquidneck Island

David cooked a perfect pizza. We ordered onion. Thin crust. No crowd when we stopped on our way to Newport.

Tucked into a modest two-business strip mall in Middletown, Checkers Pizza isn't trying to be anything it's not. And that's precisely what makes it worth seeking out. As you walk in, you're greeted by a space that embraces classic pizzeria aesthetics without self-consciousness. Red metal chairs surround tables topped with red-and-white checkered table covers. The counter's distinctive checkerboard trim frames stacked pizza boxes waiting for their next destination. A vintage 1970 baseball pinball machine stands in the corner, while The Three Stooges play on the television. Figurines of Larry, Moe, and Curly perch above the Coke cooler (kept diplomatically separate from its Pepsi counterpart). Dave offers a genuine welcome - one of those increasingly rare local pizza men who clearly enjoys feeding his community. There's something refreshingly straightforward about the whole operation. The pizza arrives quickly, on a metal stand, with actual plates with real silverware ("pinky up service" says Dave). The golden-brown crust forms a perfect foundation, achieving that perfect balance between crunch and chew. Every bite offers satisfying resistance before giving in with a crisp crackle. The edges display those telltale microblisters that demonstrate proper oven heat and timing. The house-made sauce brings brightness and subtle acidity without overwhelming the other components. It's applied with precision - not too sparse, not too heavy-handed. The cheese performs its supporting role admirably, melted to that ideal consistency where it stretches without becoming stringy or greasy. As for toppings, the pepperoni cups slightly at the edges (always the mark of quality meat properly rendered), while black olives provide briny counterpoints. Everything is distributed evenly - generous without being excessive. What truly sets Checkers apart is their commitment to making everything in-house from scratch. The dough, the sauce - it all begins and ends here, and that dedication shines through in every bite. The result is pizza that satisfies deeply without pretension or gimmicks. The Stooges on TV, the baseball pinball machine, the checkered tablecloths - none of this feels calculated. It just is what it is, unapologetically. Checkers reminds us why independent pizzerias matter - they preserve traditions worth keeping while delivering honest food made with care. If you're tired of Instagram-optimized dining experiences or corporate pizza chains, Checkers offers the perfect antidote. This is pizza made by people who understand that sometimes, the classics don't need reinvention - they just need to be done right.

This place has outstanding vegan pizza. There were a lot of options to choose from. I would love to go back and try them all! Staff were friendly and the place has a retro vibe.

Very fresh and honestly, very affordable for the aesthetic, quality, and taste. Plus the service is great. I've had their pastas, entrees, apps, pizza, and drinks and there is nothing you can go wrong with. My personal favorites is their kale salad, chianti marsala braised beef and mushroom tagliatelle. Again, the quality is great and everything is seasoned/ flavored well. Plus their pastas are homemade! They also give free bread, who doesn't love that? I cannot recommend this place enough. Every table and bar seat was packed so I highly recommend having a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit. The Romaine & Kale Caesar Salad with Chicken Milanese was genuinely tremendous. Such an elite combination from the freshness & creaminess of the salad to the crispiness and saltiness of the Chicken Milanese. Since we were sharing, they pre-split the portion for us which was a nice hassle-free experience. I could've honestly ended the meal here and been super content. I rarely see oven roasted pizza on the menu so we decided to try the Oven Roasted Chicken Grilled Pizza. The best part was actually the dough; it's thin enough where the roasted/grilled flavor comes through. The pesto and arugula were both good and paired well with the grilled chicken. The Tagliatelle was savory, earthy, and not overly creamy. The pasta itself was cooked just right. Since we were celebrating a birthday, I was so grateful that they offered us a complimentary slice of Limoncello Mascarpone Cake. It was so good! Moist, creamy, and not too sweet or citrusy. It was a pleasant bite to end the meal on. Great spot!

Very accommodating and pleasant. 4 of us had a few beers/ wine ...frosted glasses made it even better. Cheese sticks were crispy with a very good taste. Pepperoni pizza was tasty. We ordered a large cheese pizza, wings, a bowl of soup, & two meat lover's slices. The wings and soup arrived within minutes, but then we waited over 30 minutes for the cheese pizza & another 15 minutes for the two slices. It made no sense, especially with how quiet the restaurant was. During that time, no one checked on us, apologized for the delay, or refilled drinks. The biggest surprise came with the bill. There was an automatic 20% gratuity added for our party of six (!). We've eaten at countless restaurants & have never been charged automatic gratuity for six people (esp with our party being 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids). We were also charged $1.50 for a side of ranch that was brought out with the wings without us requesting it, plus $3.50 each for soda water from the fountain. The pizza itself was actually quite tasty, but unfortunately the poor service , long wait and unexpected charges brought the experience down

We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.

Our waiter was kind, attentive, and very patient with us as we managed two hangry kids. One employee who was on break even helped me find a quiet spot to take a work call which I really appreciated. The kids' meal came out almost immediately. My son got the cheeseburger, and I was surprised by how big it was. It was adult sized, and he enjoyed and finished all of it. The mussels were the standout of the meal and the best I've personally had. They were incredibly fresh with no fishy smell and the broth was so flavorful. The bread that came with it was perfect for soaking up every last bit of the broth. The salmon was very fresh and cooked well. The shrimp scampi was also really good. The clam chowder was an 8 out of 10 for me. Not the best I've ever had but definitely one of the better ones. Pricing was mid range and felt fair for the quality of the food and the portions. Overall, we were really happy with the meal. Great service, fresh seafood, generous kids' portions, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back, especially for the mussels.
