This is the only place in Austin that I know of which serves the Monte Christo, a deep fried battered turkey, ham and cheese sandwich with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. It is gooey heaven and with the homemade raspberry jam to compliment the deep fried taste really brings my tongue to ecstasy. Came here for Christmas Eve at around.... 8:00pm or so, and hour before they close and it was packed! Luckily, we only came here for a take-out order. They give you a seat at the bar and you wait there until your food is ready. The bartenders are friendly, quick, nice, patient, and accommodating. They were wonderful! Brought out our food for take-out immediately when it was ready and opened each container to show you what you got and to make sure you're ready to be on your way. Food was good, cheap, plentiful, and satisfying! Huge fillets of grilled fish when you order the fish tacos, they don't skimp on the protein! Yet another chain restaurant! I came here with 2 girlfriends for a late lunch. The best part about my meal? The toasted honey butter croissant. I was pleasantly surprised when it came out with my salad. I will say that my meal was an excellent deal. I chose to go with the 2 item combo of a house salad and baked potato for $5.99. Cleaned my plate and was a happy customer. Our waitress was good but the food took a little longer than it should have. Perhaps that was do to it being a Saturday and the World Cup was on...who knows? Can't say it's a fav of mine, but I'd come back for a quick inexpensive meal! read more

Good food as you can have from a comfort chain place... I came in recently and my waiter was in training mode, but that's okay... we all have to start somewhere. I ordered the blackened Salmon with black beans and broccoli. The Salmon was cooked well, though not blackened, but that's okay.. it was "training" night with my waiter. Atmosphere: It kinda reminds me of a Bennigans...but for an older crowd. It's your typical restaurant type atmosphere. Nothing really worth noting. Plus the music usually seems a notch or 2 louder than it should be. Service: I've yet to have good service at these place, I've been 3 times and each time it seems like we're bothering them when we come here. The waitstaff seems really young which seems awkward considering the clientele seem to be on the older side. Food: The food is solid. Nothing to write back home about but nothing really worth complaining about either. They do have a monte cristo which is nice. Overall: It's not a horrible dining experience but with the weak service, the strange atmosphere, the loud music and the mediocre food.....there really isn't a reason to come here while there are far superior options in the nearby area. read more

One of our favorite restaurants in Austin. We had dinner here on 12/13/2018as a date night. My Sweetie had the Caribbean chicken and shrimp. I had the half rack of ribs and chicken tenders. Our waiter, Tyler F could not have been any nicer. He was very attentive and made sure our needs we're met. We met the manager, Monique, and she made sure we had all we needed. It's American food done fairly well at a really decent price. We eat at Cheddar's once in a while when we want a nice, sit-down meal but don't want to pay much more than fast food. The appetizers are a very good deal also! I'm never a fan of paying the price of a typical meal just for a small app, but here for $3 - 4 you get a nice serving of something tasty to start you off before your dinner arrives. I've had a wide range of meals at Cheddar's...from the salads to the pot pie to the steaks and all have been good and satisfying. I would go back anytime for any of it, but none of it is really in the "wow" category. It's basically in the Chili's or Applebee's class of restaurants but most menu items are a couple of dollars less expensive. YUM! I love this place! :) I saw this while driving to Lakeline Mall and decided to check it out today. We started with the salsa, chips, and queso (with ground beef). Then I got the chicken and shrimp meal (OH YEAH) with a baked potato and cole slaw. Hubby got the triple cheese burger. The food was great and the portions were huge. The service was also fantastic. We had been to a Cheddar's once years ago shortly after they opened the Round Rock location and remembered not being too impressed, but couldn't remember what it was we didn't like, so thought we would give them another chance. My husband and I were there with our two middle school daughters and asked for a table for 4 for dinner. The hostess began to lead us directly into the bar, to one of those tall tables. I was kind of surprised, but thought maybe they were just full in the main dining room. I must have blurted something to my husband like "isn't this the bar?" and then she asked if it was okay. I said no, actually we would rather wait for a table in the dining room, and she led us right to a booth in the dining room that was one of several tables which were open. We thought that was strange, especially with the kids being there, but blew it off. I ordered the Hawaiian grilled chicken salad and it was okay, but I thought there was way too much lettuce and not enough pineapples and other ingredients, and the small single chicken breast half that was on top was dwarfed by the rest of the salad (lettuce) as well as being burned on the end. The dressing was good though. My older daughter got a burger and said it was okay. My younger daughter got a chicken fried steak and I have to say it was the worst looking CFS I've ever seen. The breading was thick and solid, not crispy nor light. It was like an almost smooth case the meat was enclosed in. I wish I could post a photo here because it looked so weird I took a picture of it. I'm all for keeping Austin weird, but get it right on the CFS! My husband got the club sandwich and said it was so-so. The waitress was nice enough, but seemed to be a bit new at her job in that she wasn't confident in answering questions. Also, I wondered if she got our order in right away or if the kitchen was just running slow because it took a really long time to get our food. Delicious food and great service. I don't get to eat at Cheddars often but love the pile of onion rings and the deep fried deliciousness of the Monte Cristo. Highly recommend this place. My boyfriend and I are regulars at North Cheddars and have never had a bad experience there. Cheddars is one of the few restaurants that has let us make special changes to dishes, or even make up our own dish! The drinks from the bar have always been great, unlike some other places that have "bartenders" that have no clue what they're doing. The wait staff is always friendly and actually try to do what they can to make sure you have what you need. We've even ordered things to try something new for a 'snack' and they've readily replaced anything we didn't really love. The tvs in the bar are also enjoyable especially since it's a cafe and not a trashy BAR that we can relax in without all the rowdiness. This place it great, I do however wish they had later hours. read more

We have been coming here for years. Let me just say the food is always good. The service on the other hand....well it can be spotty... Last visit was Saturday night and the food was spot on. Not the best in the business but a great value and always tasty! You shouldn't eat fried foods or foods loaded with salt and grease, but....dang...chicken fried steak? Courteous staff tonight! Hostess had quoted us a 20 minute wait so we waited at the bar for about that time, but it took longer. When my husband asked how much longer, a manager took notice. Cheddar's is pretty reliable but this one did NOT meet expectations. Service was pretty sloppy but I can probably attribute this to the type of people in Austin. Austin is full of hippies that probably only care about smoking some weed and listening to Widespread Panic or something... I got a 12 ounce Ribeye which was about 11 1/2 inches of fat. Inconsistent. Ate here a few weeks back and had very hot, fresh grilled chicken breast and incredibly fresh salad. I thought cheddars has finally distanced themselves from the likes of applebees.....but no. Yesterday i went and had the worst chicken fried steak. The batter too thick and chewy with absolutely no flavor. Mashed potatoes cold and sweet. Yes i said sweet. Yuck. I sent it back and got the lemon pepper chicken delivered by a manager. Omg. Shameless. The chicken appeared to have sat under the heat lamp or the side of the grill. It was simply old. Very disappointed. The service was extremely slow although she seemed to be overwhelmed. What a pleasure she was- not. The guy next to me asked for no fries with his meal and when his food came out he told her he didn't order fries.. Her response- "don't eat them". Huh? I ordered an app and the food runner brought her the plate but she motioned him to take it to me. Charles response- "oh, haha I should have read the ticket". So my boyfriend wanted to take me to dinner; and I picked here. We have been here a few times and it's Been ok. We are here now. Seated at 7:50pm. Someone came by to take our drink and food order at 8:10pm. Our server showed up at 8:15pm. Server comes back at 8:25 pm telling me the drink I ordered is not available. Boyfriend has finished his drink and salad and all I have is water. 8:30pm. Drink and all of our food arrives. Food is wrong. Worst experience here ever. read more

Portions are more than enough and very delicious. Even eating my left overs for dinner, (hours after coming here for lunch) I was so full! I feel the prices are affordable for the amount of food you get. Our waitress was nice and service was good. I noticed our waitress wasn't around as much as one of the waiters serving his tables at the other end of the area we were in,but it was rather busy for a Saturday and perhaps our waitress had more tables to cover, so I can't fault anyone for that. This place is 'fancy' on a budget. They have a solid bar program with solid prices but yes, they measure their pours. Their food is kind "American" cuisine and that can be taken a few ways. The way I mean it is this, it's food that's similar to something your mom or grandma may whip together using what she has. Is it groundbreaking? Nah. Is it good? Depends on my mood usually. My boyfriend and I came here on a Tuesday night, around 7:30pm. I took off one star because there was no hostess to greet us and we had to wait for someone to show up. Other than that, the food was original and tasted great. The service was so polite, quick, and accommodating. We're from California, and the prices in Texas are soooo cheap! Love it. Cheddars is my families favorite place to eat since there is such a wide variety of food to choose from and the prices are extremely reasonable. It's great for the whole family, my favorite is the red fish with crab sauce Mac and cheese and of course broccoli cheese casserole. For dessert either the Cookie Monster or the huge chocolate fudge cake but remember it is extremely big so have a few people with you. read more

Food is so bland. Came here twice this month. First time was my first ever visit. It was so loud we could not hear each other or our kids. I got the chicken pot pie, yuck. 2nd time my husband got the pot pie I got the Alfredo. The pasta was kind of warm and the sauce was gross like its store bought. My husbands chicken pot pie had a bone in it which cut his gums open. We could not find our waiter so he asked a random employee if bones are normal this guy had no clue he thought it was possible and said let me know if I should talk to the manager. On the end of one of the many busy workdays ,my fiancé and I were just weren't in the mood to do any cooking. An evening drive brought us to to Cheddars ( a place we drove past by literally everyday). I'm glad we took the leap of faith. It turned out to be a fine experience. The staff is really friendly and sweet. The interiors are pretty characteristic and classic. One can never go wrong with wooden interiors and exposed brick! We had planned on a light dinner. So we had the chicken tortilla soup and the tilapia and shrimp with mango salsa. I wasn't particularly crazy about the tortilla soup. It had a little too much cheese and more than needed chili for my taste. However, the mango salsa is to die for. The flavor of perfectly seared tilapia with delicious shrimp made for n amazing combination. You will not be disappointed. I would give this place a four out of five. It was an overall good place. Perfect for a large group of people since they have a lot of options and can cater to a large variety of taste! read more

Cheddar's is a wonderful restaurant with wonderful staff. The food is great; it's always top notch, not matter what shift we go in. The bar is always well tended. I absolutely love the frozen Strawberry Margaritas. If you go during rush hours, there will be a bit of a wait. But I have never had to wait too long. And, of course, you can and get a drink at the bar during your wait. The staff are always extremely nice (and funny, too. They love joking around). I don't think I've ever had a negative experience with any of the staff. It's a great restaurant for a night out. read more
