I have always loved cheddars but today was the worst experience I have EVER had in a restaurant. Carmen was our server. Took ten minutes to greet us but that was fine it happens to the best of us. Then she accidentally dumped a tray spilling a glass all over the table, booth, my pants, and shoes. We had to request a new table. We changed tables and everything should have been back on the right track. However it wasn't. I'm a server and I understand not writing orders down every time but you need to make sure they are right. She forgot rolls. We all forget things sometime but then lied and said it was because they were fresh out of the oven. Then why were they freezing cold? My food came out and the sides were wrong. Then cut into my MR steak that was well done and tasted burnt. My date ordered Medium and his came out great so I know it wasn't the kitchen it was her not having my accurate order. Over all extremely disappointed that they didn't do anything to compensate by even taking my meal that I didn't eat off the ticket or at least have a manager come talk to us. read more

Wife and I were feeling spontaneous on a Sunday afternoon, we decided to drive around and just pick something new to try. We stopped at Cheddars. The server was really nice however it took forever for the food to come out. We really enjoyed the appertizer which was chips and queso with beef! However my swiss mushroom burger and my wife's cajun pasta were a little disappointing! Maybe next time we will try something else on the menu. read more

By far the best of this type of resturant, standard American chain food. I've never ordered anything but the world class bacon cheeseburger and it's probably my favorite burger, at least top 5. I've tasted quite a few other dishes, but nothing good enough pull me away from the burgers. It's dirt cheap for what you get, $6 for a monster burger, fries are optional, but good. This place is fantastic! This is not fine dining, but this is also not expensive. But what it is, is delicious. The nachos are a great appetizer and are done single chip style instead of a big pile of f*** up your stomach in 30 minutes, like most places do nachos. The queso an salsa are also m-m-m good! I have been many times and some of my favorite dishes are: world class chicken sandwich with a side of bourbon glaze. Goodness so damn good! But the New Orleans Pasta is also pure gold. The baked spazana (I screwed that up, but another home run!) I would also recommend getting the Philly cheese steak but sub out the steak for chicken! Honestly you can't go wrong here and everything is mad cheap! They got burgers cheaper than McDonald's and they're actually real meat and not...who really know what's in Mcdonald anyway. my boyfriend and i had an unexpected, impromptu, perfect dinner here tonight. we arrived at about 7pm on a friday. the parking lot was packed, and my boyfriend dropped me off, to determine if the wait time was tolerable. i was quoted 25 minutes, which i accepted, and then took my buzzer to the bar. two gents were kind enough to scootch down one seat so that my boyfriend and i were able to sit at the bar. buzzer returned to the host stand, we settled in for dinner. i started off with the spicy mango mojito which was delish. i substituted seltzer for the sour mix, and the sweet-heat level was perfect. we opted for an appetizer of the queso and chips, with the ground beef. the chips were freshly fried, the queso was melty yummy goodness, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick. for dinner, my boyfriend ordered the shepard's pie: ground beef (okay- not traditional, but still yummy) topped with a mound of mashed potatoes topped with shredded cheddar. incredibly hearty and well-seasoned, he was very satisfied with his meal. i ordered the catfish with cajun seasoning, cole slaw, and broccoli cheddar casserole. due to all the positive reviews, i added a caesar salad, as well. the salad was plentiful, though the dressing was a bit sweet. it didn't taste to me like a classic caesar, but it was tasty nonetheless. yes- the sweet butter croissant is to die for, although mine was not warm, which was a little disappointing. my catfish was impossibly moist and flaky- perfectly cooked. the seasoning was just spicy enough to please those who like a little heat, as well as those who don't like much. my cole slaw was typical in ingredients, but the flavor and seasoning were spot on- the right amount of sugar, salt, and pepper. cheddar and broccoli casserole was thick, creamy, and incredibly hearty. i ordered the dinner portion (2 fillets vs. 1) and ended up taking exactly half my meal home- yay for leftovers! service was prompt and friendly. i'm not a lover of chains, and my boyfriend inquired as to how this could be a chain that offered so much food, for such a low price (our entire meal, including 1 beer and 2 cocktails, was just about $40...). i proffered that, while the business is likely turning a profit, they may have chosen to only profit so much, in favor of having loyal customers. i hope that is true, because that's how it feels. when in the presence of a cheddar's again (i live in CT- we don't have them), i'll surely return. read more

We decided to have lunch here since it was close to our house. It was a mistake. We didn't even get any service whatsoever. We were sorted very quickly but that was the last time we saw any staff. We waited at the table for over 30 minutes and never even had anyone come to take our drink order even after having to stop a server and ask. I don't know if it's possible to explain how amazing this place is. It is soooo cheap for what you get, you can get an amazing burger (my favorite is the mushroom burger) for about $6 and then fries for maybe $2. Then if you don't eat a ton, like me, bring home leftovers! My fiance and I ate here many times for under $18 before tip. And the waitress/waiters always deserve a good tip here! Cheddars is always a good choice for a meal out, they have an expansive menu with so many different things to get. The buffalo chicken wrap and chicken Caesar pasta salad are personal favorites. The service is always good and the prices are always reasonable. read more

This is by far the best casual chain restaurants to eat at in the South. I love Cheddars they are way better from TGI Friday and Applebees, their food actually tastes good. This is a great location, I love their chicken fingers and fries. I always come to this restaurant before and after UK sporting events even thou I am a Vanderbilt fan. The wait staff here is friendly, good southern Hospitality even thou Lexington is not that Southern. I love this place, check it out I would recommend it, never had a bad meal here, the food is good Southern comfort food and your taste buds will thank you. read more

i openned my computer last night and went to yahoo search for cheddars. I was looking to pull their menu so that i could order some carryout. Along the way i stumbled accross Yelp. I had never seen it before so i wanted to check it out. I was now interested to see what people were writing about one of my families favorite restaurants. First let me state that i have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and I have worked for and run several companies that flat out knew how to get it done. I only state my backround because i would think of myself as having a great understanding of how restaurants operate and what makes them successful. #1 The service - not just at the table but starting when you enter the business. The greeting from the hostess, the involvement of management, the you are my only table attitude from the server, etc. #2 The food - Does it appeal to the masses. There are other factors such as the feel inside and the location but they are from less important then the first 2 that i named. I look at the reviews of the people like Luke, and BTW the monte cristo is my favorite as well, and JD and I agree with both of them. I believe that this is one of the best "Value Restaurants" in Lexington. The only reason for the missing star is for the service. I have dined there several times with my family and i have experienced service that was questionable. Never a bad attitude but a bit slow. Every time i received slow service i discovered that the problem was due to some missing staff. In one case they were busier earlier then expected and in the other case they had a couple servers not make it in for that day. My family always leaves happy and even with the slow service at times we can still be out of there in under an hour. What i am dissapointed about from Yelp is some of the reviews that i have seen from certain people. I am not going to name names but it is pretty easy to tell from the reviews of this restaurant who i am talking about. The one reviewer has obviously never eaten here. Maybe because it is a chain or maybe because it is inexpensive but in any case the reviewer doesn't understand what makes a restaurant successful. There is a reason that Cheddars is always so busy. The masses love it period. That is why they do what they do. I have read other reviews from the totally negative one and i even went to the other places that they reviewed and couldn't believe how poorly some of my favorite restaurants that "GET IT" were rated and how highly rstaurants that i wouldn't ever go back to again because of horrible service, food, and cleanliness were rated. If you look at the global landscape every chain restaurant started with one and they created a chain because of the great success of the first non-chain restaurant. Now people tend to take a different look at these restaurants because they are a chain. When you look at a company like Outback some people don't like it because it is a chain but when the first one openned in Sarasota Florida they realized that they had a winner and turned it into a multi-billion dollar company. I guess all of those Outback lovers must be out of touch. The same exact thing can be said about Cheddars. It started with one and seemingly had enough success that it is a huge national success. I guess all of those people are wrong as well Stella. Ok i am off of my soapbox. I think cheddars will continue to be hugely successful no matter what some of the people say. There are many more that love it and I am included in that group. My father used to say if you have something bad to say take the person asside and be a man about it and discuss it face to face. Well first off, we ordered online from a fairly expensive place that we received a gift card from as my wife's birthday gift. Just to kinda set up why we're so disappointed we don't usually get to eat at nicer places. So my wife drives to pick up the food and brought it back to find out that her salad was missing, steak was under cooked and my burger that was supposed to have crunchy onion had been subbed for regular onion. I don't like regular onions and the reason I wanted the burger was mainly based on the crunchy onions and they didn't tell us that they subbed them so she had to drive the food back. So at this point food is now cold and all we got was a sorry and the salad they never gave us. And that was it. We asked about the burger and they replied there was nothing wrong. No discount just a salad and a bag full of cold food we even tipped them. It was our first time ever getting food here and we expected more. Even her potatoes side was so small portioned that KFC would have been a more solid, reliable meal. read more

Every time we leave this place I say "why don't we eat here more often?" it is definitely a step up from chain fern bars like Applebee's and tgif's. Tonight I tried the key west chicken and shrimp with an excellent pineapple salsa. It was very good and as usual the sides were great broccoli casserole especially. This Cheddar's location used to be good, but has declined in recent years. Tonight I went here with a couple friends. There was a wait, but it wasn't long before we were seated. Our waitress came and got our drink order, brought us our drinks, then ran off. About 15 minutes later she came back and asked if we were ready to order. We place our order and wait. Tables that were seated long after us were getting their food and boxing up their leftovers by the time we received our meals. My meal was missing an item, which I had to remind our waitress THREE times before she finally brought it. One of my friends ordered a burger, which was extremely overdone. The next time she came back was to give us our checks. My friend's check was messed up, so he told her, she said she would fix it, so he went ahead and gave her his card. She brings us all our checks back and his was the exact same. She did not say "thank you" or anything. She ran off before he could say anything and so we decided it wasn't worth it. Some of the worst service in Lexington, which is sad considering what a good restaurant this used to be. Unfortunately there are too many other options in Lexington to waste any more money on mediocre food and horrible service! We won't be back. read more

After having dreadful service while dining here with my parents on their last visit, we decided to give this cheddar' s another chance because my mom thoroughly enjoys their chips and queso. Service was greatly improved on this visit. Though compared to our last experience here, expectations were truly not at an all-time high. My mom and dad thoroughly enjoyed the baked spasagna and pot pie they ordered. Great amount of food for the price. My dad did wish they had a larger beer selection however. Drinks were refilled at an adequate rate. My only complaint on this trip was the rack of ribs I ordered. Being one of the more expensive menu items I had high hopes. Unfortunately they were grossly overcooked and it seemed they tried to cover up the fact by completely drowning them in their bbq sauce. Quite inedible but dessert was tasty and filling. Highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie. Still prefer other restaurants. Though often in the mood for cheddar' s I will just have to find a new location after the last few questionable visits. For the record, I have been several times since my last bad service experience. Cheddars does have an immaculate amount of options at such a reasonable price. I'm saddened that a couple of bad service experiences turned me off this gem. My last few visits have been so enjoyable and the service greatly improved. Three days ago my husband myself and and good friend went to Cheddars on Katy fwy in Katy Tx. My friend and I ordered a dish containing grilled chicken. This chicken was kind of rubbery but foolishly we ate it. We have be suffering ever since. I went to the urgent care because I went to the bathroom so much I became dehydrated. Tonight we had a very unusual experience. Everything seemed normal and our waitress who introduced herself to use as "Shae" was doing a decent enough job. At the end of our meal, we asked for a couple boxes and the check, to which she asked "are you guys paying with cash or card?" We said cash. She then returned with some boxes and laid a check on the table. The check she laid on the table a total, a gratuity suggestion (already filled in) and a signature at the bottom, no details or individual prices. My boyfriend studied the check and thought it was strange that she would write in her own tip in the gratuity section but since we had our kids and were in a hurry to leave, he left $55 on the table. (The total before she "wrote in" a $9 tip) was $48.47.. we walked outside and then it hit me. That wasn't our ticket! It couldn't have been. The signature at the bottom belonged to someone else and it definitely wasn't "Shae" or Tanesha C which was the server name on top. My boyfriend then walked back in to straighten things out with our check because we knew we had over paid. Upon confronting the girl, she said "oh I'm sorry" and tried handing him back $10. He requested a copy of our ticket so that we knew what we were paying for and she pretended not to hear. He then asked for a manager to speak with, and the server returned with a gentleman from the kitchen. When my boyfriend asked if he was a manager, he stated that no he was a cook. The night time manager FINALLY came up front and my boyfriend DEMANDED a copy of our bill. The server brought us a ticket rang in at 6:10, (the same time we were standing there). The kitchen never received our order through the computer system until that moment. Our server blatantly laid down an old ticket in hopes that we wouldn't notice and would leave the cash on the table so that she (& whoever else in the kitchen that was in on it) could pocket the entire bill. I have served tables for many years myself and have witnessed people doing this in other places but NEVER thought it would happen to me. read more
