First time dining at Cheddar's. Restaurant was extremely dark and hot! Waitress (BJ) was very upbeat. She took our appetizer and drink order quickly. We were finished with our appetizer and waited for her to return to take our food order. Food came out in a reasonable time and it was delicious. I had the 8oz sirloin with sautéed mushrooms. My husband had the ribs and shrimp. My husband didn't realize, until we got home, that she did not bring him the Mac & cheese he ordered. When she brought the check she forgot to deduct for the coupon we had for the appetizer. We were celebrating two birthdays. The receipt showed birthday promos, cookies. When asked about it she said that they were out of cookies. When she brought the corrected bills she had cookies. She said she looked in the office and found two packages. Very convenient! Ok, this one hurts to write, but, the wife and i have always had excellent service and food when we dine here about every 3 months. Today we drove about 25 mins to have a quick lunch. That didnt happen. How can you be understaffed on a Saturday at lunch ??? We sat in the bar area for quicker service as most days the dining area is full. I observed the bus boys walking slowly and empty handed. The same goes for the servers in the bar area. When the food came my pasta noodles were Overcooked and mushy. Had the wife taste it and asked on a scale of 1 to 10 ? She replied 4 !! Also, her drink order took 10 mins whule my server said "let me get you another coke" half way thru the meal. Cheddar's is normally my go to restaurant for a tasty lunch and dinner, however I will not be returning to the Mishawaka location again. Over the last 6 months, I have visited the Mishiwaka Cheddars location 5 times (3 times for lunch, 2 for dinner), and I absolutely can NOT recommend this location. Each time service has been laxidasical at best, with our party having to wait 10-20 minutes for a server to even see us, then once seen another 10 minutes for the server to get a water and Ice Tea. Once we got our drinks, it would take another 10 minutes for the server to get our food order (we were ready to order when we sat down). Food once delivered is good, but again the servers never checked on our party until they dropped off our bill. The final straw for me today, was when I requested a booth at lunch time and was asked to sit in the bar section (which I had no problem doing). I waited 10 minutes and a server never came to great me which never happened. I can understand if the restaurant is busy, however there was 4 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. I asked the table next to me if they had seen a server, Nd they responded "It took us 20 minutes to get a drink order and she has not been back since." At that point, I walked out and went to Carrabbas to receive both excellent service and great food. read more

Our family always looks for a cheddars scratch kitchen when ever we travel. We love there food have never been disappointed. There all very nice. With the covid there shouldn't have been letting people in without a mask and they did and it was a state mandate. I sat there a looked it up. That's the only thing that was disappointing. read more

Tonight was the first bad experience we've had at Cheddar's. The food and atmosphere was good, but the service was horrible. Our waitress (I think her name was Shinea or something like that) was extremely unprofessional. To start out, she kept talking to another table WHILE she was taking our order. Then she came back with 2 out of 3 of our drinks wrong. By the time she got us our drinks, our main course was delivered. Also, our salads and rolls were delivered them as well. Our waitress forgot my girlfriend's soup, and when we asked about it, she told us to "chill out". We asked her for some butter and steak sauce when she was going to get my girlfriend's soup. She came back without the steak sauce, so when we mentioned it. She told us to "chill out" again. And then expressed that she only"only has 2 hands". This prompted me to ask her why she didn't use a tray. To which she aggressively said "I didn't use a tray!" At this point I went to the bartender and asked her to bring us the manager. From this point forward, the bartender (Amie) and the manager took over and made the experience much better. We will leave immediately if we are seated with Shinea as our waitress again! read more

I was recently in South Bend visiting my child who attends ND. I was delighted to find a restaurant in the area who claims to have every dish made from scratch. I was quite disappointed when our appetizer arrived (nachos) and they were covered in a processed cheese sauce similar to what comes out of a Costco sized can and served at high school football games. Well... ok. On to the main meal. I ordered the 6 ounce sirloin with fresh off the cob corn and glazed carrots. The sirloin was a little bigger than a half-dollar and was previously frozen. How do I know? I am an avid steak eater and not only cook my own fillets but enjoy a good steak from Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, and even Outback. While I wasn't expecting steakhouse quality, I would at least expect a tender Chili's version of a steak. The "fresh off the cob corn" was anything but off the cob. Not crispy, and sweetened with sugar! The carrots were boiled to oblivion and had an overly sweet syrup added to it. The ribs were fatty and the unsweetened tea was cloudy which is a sign that it has been sitting WAY too long. This restaurant needs a lot of improvement to call themselves from SCRATCH. The waitress was ok, didn't crack a smile until the end of service and did get our order wrong. Dessert mini-cake dry and tasteless. Wish I could give a better review but I just can't lie to the public. The only nice thing was the location and brick walls inside which create a warm friendly atmosphere. The ambiance in this place is amazing! From the big, beautiful fan that circulates the air in the room to the fish tank in the wall I loved it. We were seated quickly (Party of 6) & greeted quickly by the server. I got a sangria which was delicious and shared an appetizer. It came our perfect and you can never go wrong with cheese curds! This is a pretty average restaurant. Not my favorite, but not bad either. I had the monte christo sandwich and thought it was yummy. The side salad is a great size and tastes just like you would expect it to. I was disappointed with dessert and didn't love three mini painkiller cake. Although my brother had the monster cookie sundae and that was MUCH better. Everything was priced very well, so that's a definite plus. I think we only paid $50-$60 for 4 meals and two desserts! Overall I might have given it another star if wasn't so insanely frigid. It was colder than any restaurant I can remember being to. So I definitely recommended wearing pants, bringing a sweater, and maybe even wearing close toe shoes. (I made the mistake of wearing pants and a tank top. I just couldn't enjoy my meal because it was SO cold. It's also not the best place to go if you're celebrating a birthday. Cheddar's is a very nice restaurant, it's comparable to T.G.I. Fridays, however waaaaay better. Cheddar's has a fresh out of the kitchen quality to their dishes. Especially their onion rings and chicken tenders. Other restaurants use pre-packaged frozen chicken, but not Cheddar's . Their chicken is hand battered, juicy, tender, and a nice golden brown. I was impressed by their BBQ ribs they had. Usually I avoid major chain BBQ, but Cheddar's BBQ unlike Famous Dave's was fall off the bone delicious. Overall I can't complain. My grandmother ordered a Cajun style shrimp Alfredo pasta dish( I can't remember what it was actually called) but hers looked good, and Cheddar's was generous with their shrimp portions, unlike other restaurants. The environment was spectacular. High class feeling, clean, interesting. Good service good wine. And cheap. You would expect the menu to be double the price when you walk in and see how upscale the setting is. I ordered a 12oz ribeye for 15 dollars, it came with two delicious Sides. I would give 5 stars but I asked for the ribeye med rare and it came out bloody and barely cooked. I literally seared the leftovers for 10 minutes at home on an iron skillet to bring it to a nice pink and juicy med rare. All in all I would go again but if I ordered a steak I would ask for it medium or well done. I Jane a feeling it is completely inconsistent and if I ordered it medium it would come out overdone. We will see. I left this review and was given a response (most likely by the management of cheddars) that was extremely condescending and pompous. I wish I had taken a picture of the raw steak I was served to show how undercooked it was. I have worked in kitchens my whole life and have a great amount of culinary training. I've worked in places such as; Notre dame, chillis, between the buns, Aladdins, all of which deal with cooking red meat to order. It is insulting to hear from the manager in response to my dissatisfaction with the level the meat was cooked add if I'm an uneducated fool who is falling under a "misconception" of what medium rare is. The last time I gave them 2 stars because of price and the food. This time that can't even save them. We were reluctantly drug to Cheddar's by my mother who was visiting from out of town; she loves the place and she was the guest so she wins. The last time all of our issues were with the service and this time we lucked out with the same exact server again. This time was worse than last. The visit was at lunch time and we told her I had to run to work by a certain time, an hour and a half would be a crunch but shouldn't be too hard to do at a casual place. The food didn't come out until about 20 minutes before I had to leave and of course my burger wasn't there. That was a similar issue as last time when my mom's entree was forgotten. It took another 10 minutes to get my food out in a box of course because I knew I wasn't going to have the time. Like I had said in the past the food is pretty tasty and the price can't really be beat, but I find it extremely difficult to believe that my service issues are all that unique. We decided to go after not going for awhile. plenty of empty tables and we were sat as soon as we walked in by a very disinterested person. We sat, and sat and sat, numerous tables around were sat and waited on, all waiters avoided eye contact with us. 15-20 minutes later we had had enough and got up to leave. 4 workers were standing and chit chatting, obviously NOT doing there jobs. The person who sat us rushed up behind us to "thank us for dining with them". I fired back "We never ate". Not a single person acknowledged us AT ALL. Cheddar is an interesting concept. The ambiance is quite nice, probably on par with or better than corporate restaurants like TGI Friday's or Ruby Tuesday, but the price is noticeably lower. At the risk of sounding like an elitist, the great value offered tends to attract the kind of crowd that can't usually afford full-service sit-down restaurants. I saw a customer with a wife-beater, shorts, and sneakers. He wouldn't be out of place at Ihop or some other diner, but he didn't fit this supposedly more polished environment. My first visit to the place was a disaster. I don't even remember what I ordered anymore because I was really unhappy. We ordered a couple of glasses of water. Three glasses came, one was visibly cracked, and another had something floating in it. It appeared to be a small piece of lemon, but since we didn't order lemon in our water there's no telling where it came from. We sent the cracked glass back and didn't bother with the mystery piece, because we didn't want to further delay the order. We waited for quite a long time, only to hear the manager told us that there's something wrong with their computer system so our orders had to be recreated and resubmitted. After what seemed like ages we received our food, which was good but nothing to write home about. When it was time to pay, I examined the bill (as I always do) and was surprised at the high price. Upon closer inspection they charged us double for everything, which must have happened when they recreated the ticket in their system, they just forgot to cancel the old one. The only positive thing that I can say is that our server was excellent, and she was genuinely mortified at the screw-ups and kept apologizing to us. We left her a standard tip even though our overall dining experience was terrible. It's the only reason I rate the place a two-star instead of one. I blame the management on this. Two MAJOR screw ups (very late food, wrong bill) and the manager didn't even bother to come to the table again and apologize for the bill. I worked in food service a while back, so I know only a manager can fix a screwed up ticket in the system. Despite knowing about two screw ups, they didn't come and rectify it by offering a discount or a comp. Any one of the restaurant managers I worked with would have taken items off the bill to apologize for this kind of fiasco. Not recommended. read more

Please don't bother with this place. First, this is our third visit. The first time we went to the bar only. Three bartenders and it took them at least five minutes to acknowledge us. They didn't wipe the area down until after they took our drink order (which the bartender promptly forgot and had to ask us again). The margaritas were not that good and mine had a gnat in it. The bartender didn't understand why I wanted it replaced. We didn't bother with food. Second time, we sat in the bar and the service was ok and the food was warm and decent. Which made us decide to come back. Third time, after being seated, it took the waiter at least five minutes to get our drink order (we ordered right then). Then another ten to get our drinks. After about 30 minutes, we got our food (which was all cold). The manager took one of our plates to "fix" the situation. She brought it back in a few minutes - yep, they nuked it and sent it right back to the table. "NUKED IT" - at least replate the food so we don't know you just microwaved the same plate. The manager then didn't understand why this wasn't acceptable. We left immediately after getting the bill (they only took off one of our plates, though, two of us didn't eat the cold food. First off, why put on a review if you YOURSELF have not even eaten there. Yet you put a review up based on OTHERS experiences. That is just idiotic to me. On to my review. Yes, this place is massively busy. It is what is expected when a NEW PLACE opens in the area. Everyone plus their grandmother is going to try it out. If you are not willing to wait and choose to go at high volume times, then I don't think you have the right to gripe. We went at 1:30pm last week and it was still busy but we got seated right away. I had the pick three lunch combo, soup, salad and half club sandwich. The salad was great and had loads of veggie toppings and a perfect amount of dressing. Their croutons they use are good too. Nice amount of lettuce etc for the price if you were to pay for it on your own.. The bread on the sandwich was toasted which was nice, however they LOAD it with butter. The salad came with a croissant topped with honey butter? It was very flaky and fresh. The soup on the other hand was not my favorite for chicken tortilla. The flavor was just off to me. It was as if it had way too much lime juice in it. I will say that it had a nice after kick of spice that seemed to be spot on if that is your type of thing. I also tried 2 of their flavored teas, raspberry and mango/peach. The mango/peach was my favorite. There is not fruit floating around in your tea and I can't recall exactly but am pretty sure that was advertised for those. Those are 2.99 each but you can swap out flavors and not get charged a "new" glass. So basically they are refillable. For that price I expected some fruit. For dessert I had the apple pie. The piece is HUGE and can be shared. The crust was very soft/flaky and extremely buttery. The waitress said it is made fresh there. I'm not sure about that claim. Judge for yourself. On a side note, their alcoholic beverages looked excellent and the price point was below most places in the area but I did not try one. Basically this is just an average place, average food, but prices were good and you got a lot of food for the price. I just didn't have anything spectacular that would warrant another visit, but I do want to go back to try the pot roast. As far as friendliness, we had 2 waitresses, one was training, and they were a riot, funny , friendly and prompt. We even had another waitress stop by our table to just say hi, see how our visit was, make small talk and refilled my guests drink when we were not even her table! This place stinks. It's about.7:00 on Sunday, December 28th, 2014. I have just.been seated with my party after an interminable wait. Waiting for a table is no big deal. Waiting for a table while watching empty tables go unused is unforgivable. I don't care how the food is. I'm disgusted with the hostess staff and complete cluster of dining room management that the food will not be able to turn this disaster around. Is there a way to give negative stars on Yelp?!!
