One of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in years. I ordered the pecan salad, and they completely forgot the pecans. Our server was inattentive and unprofessional--she seemed more interested in staying in the kitchen than actually checking on her tables. I paid for a drink and never received a refill. We were also supposed to get croissants, but when we asked, she claimed they were out--yet the table seated after us was served theirs without issue. I came here with the family after church. There was no wait and we were seated within 5 minutes The server brought menus and then fresh croissants. The croissants are amazing! I first ordered the chicken tenders, shrimp, rice and broccoli casserole. The rice was not good, and the server took it back. I replaced it with fries. The fries were hot and seasoned to perfection. The chicken tenders and shrimp were crunchy and really good. I had a birthday coupon for a free dessert and I ordered the cookie sundae. It came out hot and the ice cream was melted . Been many year since I last been here prior to their closing and re-opwning. The food was amazing late start by saying that. My server was phenomenal, Mr. Deberry G.. super attentive and right on time with taking our orders, ensuring we felt valued and just making our entire experience. Today was a mommy and me date with my kiddos. Portion sizes are well worth the money. The food was fresh and tasted great. I'd forgotten all about their honey buttered crossiants...yummy. My New Orleans pasta was divine. The kids truly enjoyed their meals as well. My oldest 16 had the Chicken alfredo pasta, and my son 14 had the Buffalo chicken wrapper, and my baby girl 3 had the kids chicken tenders and fries. The restaurant is very spacious and it was super busy today but it didn't take long to get our meals at all. Many families were celebrating birthdays with fairly nice size groups, but they were accommodated nicely. So, it is very ideal for large families or special celebrations. There was also lots of parking available as well, so we had no issues finding a parking spot regardless of the revolving guests in and out. My only gripe thing I noticed was at check-in, at the host station there was a few very wet spill(s) that the manager and two hostesses stepped over and no one attempted to cleaned them up and I had fall hazards. I always come to Cheddar's knowing the food will be worth the poor service. It really is the reason I keep coming back. But today was different in all the good ways. Let's start with those mind blowing croissants!! They give each guest one complimentary slice of heaven, I mean honey butter drizzled croissant and our server, Kim, brought it out as she greeted us! Uh, yes we did want that before saying hello. It's like she knew me! Thank you, Kim! From there we split the veggie plate since we had a big breakfast. Kim the Magnificent split our house salad and brought an extra plate for the main course. Very thoughtful and made splitting a meal convenient. The food was delicious as always. It's a simple house salad but it's very yummy. Always fresh and with a wonderful vinaigrette. We split the plate but still had more than enough to eat. Check out the pictures for proof. It's been way too long since I've been here but the croissants haven't changed a bit. We got there (party of four) right when they opened so when they brought out the sweet butter croissants, they actually melted in our mouths. It's worth the trip all the way from Virginia Beach. I got the vegetable platter and was so happy with all my choices. Also, their fried cheese appetizer was a big hit with all of us. We walked in to people waiting on the benches, and quoted about 25 minutes for seating for two. The main area of the restaurant was fairly loud - lots of families. We were lucky to be seated off the main area and it was actually fairly quiet, so we could converse without shouting. We were also lucky in that it barely took ten minutes before we were seated. Our hostess and waitress were both very pleasant. Our waitress Neicha was quick to give suggestions and answer any questions we had after we mentioned it was our first time at a Cheddar's. She provided excellent service through the whole meal and is one of the reasons this placed netted a third star. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with all the necessities, but I do wish they had a hook on the back of the door for your purse. There wasn't any surface except the floor to leave it on. You receive two of their croissants complementary, after that you'll have to order them. They are quite tasty -enough that my companion ordered a pair to go. Something about the butter and the flakiness made them one of the better parts of the meal. We ordered two appetizers - the Wisconsin cheese bites and a four chicken strip platter. The cheese bites were fresh and crispy, they were not my favorite version of cheese bites but were acceptable. I preferred to dunk them into the smoky BBQ sauce we got with the chicken strips. The chicken strips were cooked well, crispy and one of my favorite things about the meal. My friend ordered the chicken pot pie and fries - we rarely do this, but after each trying a bite of the pot pie (she even tried a second to confirm) we ended up sending it back to the kitchen. I can't put my exact finger on what it was about the filling, but it was not something either of us would want to eat. The fries were well cooked, but she needed to add a bit of salt. As a replacement she chose the monte Cristo - it was deemed okay, but too heavy on the batter. Her side for the Monte Cristo was the broccoli cheese casserole - it is adequate, but not fantastic. I ordered the meatloaf with extra gravy, mashed potatoes and broccoli. My sides were pretty tasty, the broccoli well seasoned and tender, the mashed potatoes well seasoned too. The gravy really made the dish and they definitely delivered extra- though the meatloaf itself was best with the crusty bits and had a very pronounced flavor of bell pepper which isn't something I really enjoy. I tried both the lemonade and sweet tea - the sweet tea was definitely southern sweet tea and gets a thumbs up, it was clear the lemonade was from a mix and isn't something I'd get again. Randomly found this restaurant through FB and just so happened to have a buddy who lives in Newport News. I am from Virginia Beach, so it was a perfect opportunity to get together and hangout with some friends. The FB post I saw talked a good talk about their honey butter croissants. Bruh, they were BUSSIN! We also tried the Wisconsin cheese bites which were a great appetizer. The chips with dip were kind of disappointing, but other than that, the appetizers were good. After arriving from a long road trip we decided to catch a quick bite to eat. W Upon arrival the restaurant was busy and our wait was minimal. The facility itself could have been swept up a little better. You could literally see all the food crumbs along with paper on the floor. Usually something like that would immediately get me back out the door but after a 10 hr drive I couldn't fathom seeking another restaurant not to mention it was late. After being seated we waited about 10-15 mins or so for our waiter. He was very nice but this was his first night - I believe his name was Daylin. For his first night he did okay. No real complaints. The first time I ate here was June of last year, so the restaurant had a limited menu. I came back last night, and I was overwhelmed by the variety that was now available. Everything looked delicious, and everything tasted as good as it looked I started off with a strawberry lemonade & Maui Margaritas, which combines the flavors of strawberry and mango (um, delightful!). It even came with an extra shot of tequila. The drink was mixed perfectly. I always look forward to the honey butter croissants. It's not pictured because I ate them immediately lol. That says enough about them, right? Last time I ordered the bourbon glazed salmon, but this time I ordered the creamy garlic tilapia with shrimp. It comes on a bed of rice with two sides. I got the mashed potatoes and cheddar broccoli casserole. We also ordered the ribs & chicken tender combo with fries and broccoli. I ended up liking the broccoli more than the casserole so I ordered more for myself. The casserole was missing a little bit of umph. The fries were also a little over fried, but overall the meal was good! I woke up thinking about my leftovers so after writing this review, I'll be eating them happily. Well today our food seemed pretty small than what we normally get at cheddars. It was nice to be instantly seated. All the tables are pretty much every other for social distancing. One of my biggest pet peeves is never getting a refill on the drink... they cost so much anyway.. when I splurge for that $3 ice tea.. I like to get a refill. Our waitress started off good.. our food came and she never came back til we needed a box. They did pick up to start to get busy but our drinks were empty long before that. They now have the little tablets at the table to pay for your food there. I saw several waitresses explain what it was when the people were waiting for the check.. as the seemed to not know. Disappointed that the fries and burger were cold, as well as the steak and sides. It seems to have been sitting for quite a while. That was super sad. The croissants were small like weird small? Especially compared to other photos. We never got a plate to put them on so we just ate them off our napkins. The sever wasn't back so we could get a plate. She came back when the food was served. The chicken tender salad was WAY smaller than normal.. looked like a huge bowl and small salad.. which is was. The green beans have liquid was had got the steak and potato soggy. I can overlook that. Our server Tasha was outstanding. Attentive, friendly, and proactive. Our food was delicious. We had grilled Shrimp with a salad, fantastic potato soup, and the broccoli and cheese casserole with the country fried steak was just like grandma's. The right side of the restaurant where the bar is, is a little more ambiance than the other side, but it's a solid choice. We had a minor issue and manager Eric worked quickly with our server to correct it without needing to be asked and I was blown away by the service. We hit the bathrooms before the meal, and i was not thrilled by both the lack of hook for our purses and the fact that one of the sinks was leaking and making a mess. We ordered appetizers of the chicken tenders and Wisconsin cheese bites, and both were tasty. The breading on the chicken was light and perfectly fried. The BBQ sauce they give for dipping is extremely thin and tasted burnt to me. The apps did not come with plates to make them "shareable" as they are advertised on the menu. This is honestly a pet peeve of mine due to the fact of, if i need to cut up the app, i dont want to do it on the app plate. My friend ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccoli plus the broccoli cheese casserole to try as well. I ordered the pot pie and fries plus the Monte Cristo to go as I love that sandwich. The food arrived rather quickly and looked well prepared. The meatloaf had an overwhelming green pepper taste, and my friend was not thrilled with it. The broccoli was well cooked. The mashed potatoes were tasty, and they gave her lots of gravy, which is what she wanted. As for the broccoli casserole, it was adequate. It was poorly seasoned and just needed a little bit more kick. As for my pot pie and fries, the fries were perfectly cooked and extremely tasty, though they needed salt badly. As for the pot pie, it looks like I give it a five taste, I give it a zero. The filling had an off-putting flavor that both me and my friend did not enjoy. Personally, I think it could have used a lot more cooking. I get a better pot pie from KFC, and it's half the price. For being $12, I expected a lot more. I think from here on in I will stick with my own homemade pot pie. After hearing rave reviews about how good this place was, I find myself dining with disappointment instead of enjoyment. The Monte Cristo came to the table, and by then, I was relatively full, so I wasn't able to enjoy as much of it as I would have liked . But I took a few bites just to try it and see how it was. It is a little bit heavily breaded for me the batter that they used to fry it in was ridiculously thick on the sandwich and I would have preferred it to be thinner which is a shame because their chicken fingers were very perfectly breaded and this was just way too heavy-handed . As for ambiance, if screaming and running children and loud watered-down rock music is your thing, this is a place for you. For me, it reminds me far too much of Applebee's and the disappointment I always feel there, too. I haven't been to this Cheddars in a long time and honestly, I will never go back since they have performed the same my last three visits. I don't know if the service has just fallen off recently, but wow this place is bad. It seems like the entire franchise standard has been compromised at this location. Between the confusion of our hostess, the filthy floors and tables, inappropriate employee behavior and ordering an undercooked Chicken Fried Chicken the experience was very poor from start to finish. They're getting by on their old reputation at this point. Cheddars used to be really good for a big box brand. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. If you want "Curbside Pick-up" - don't do it in bad weather. As per Cheddar's text, I let them know that I was in curbside spot #3 and waited for my order to be brought to the car. Instead, I received a call that I had to come inside and pick-up the order as it was "raining and cold and the staff couldn't come out". When placing the order, I left a nice tip as I appreciate the curbside service. It seems that this Cheddar's really doesn't care about their customers. I'm in my 70's, a cancer survivor and have double hip replacement. Going outside in the rain is not my preferred activity, but I did it. The woman at the front desk was very rude when I asked where to pick up the order and just pointed a finger in the direction of the bar. The management of this location needs to train their staff that the customer comes first and needs to be treated well. With all of the other restaurants in the area, I will not be giving any future business to this Cheddar's. read more

Great experience here for date night! Our server briana was so friendly and attentive. She was always just a step away if we needed anything. The manager Kendall was working hard as well, sweeping, bussing, cleaning tables, helping at the hostess stand. I love to see managers actively helping their team!! It says a lot about him seeing that. The bread with butter yall. I didn't get photos because I inhaled them. Bacon cheese fries are next level, completely loaded, and the ranch is 100% my favorite any where. My entree left a lot to be desired. The chicken did not taste good to me, and the bread was a little strange. I've gotten this entree in the past and loved it! So I was a little bummed. Dessert was phenomenal as always! Chicken tenders were great as usual. Problem continues to be with service. We ordered on the app and parked in a numbered spot and checked in. Waited and waited and got a call telling us we had to come inside due to the weather, I said oh no what's going on with the weather to which she said it's raining. I ended up telling the waitress to take it and I didn't end up eating. My "painkiller" tasted like it had 0 alcohol in it. My son ordered the monte Cristo and had to force himself to eat it (he doesn't like complaining) and he ended up throwing it up when he got home from the grease. My mom's steak wasn't cooked well and she said it tasted like it had been sitting under the warmer for a while. Usually if it was just one meal I wouldn't complain or review but 3 outta 4 is horrible. Only thing they didn't screw up was my toddlers chicken tenders and French fry's. Darden has dropped the ball on most all casual concepts for not having managers do table visits not at Cheddars this visit nor my last three visits at Olive Garden. Due to work I've dined out over 60 times in the past six weeks. It sucks that a place that requires so much training and has so many systems in place can't figure it out. Try staffing more managers in your locations... especially on busy days. The staff there did an A for effort and being engaged and trying. This is a great concept that should be growing but not like this. Many corporate restaurants are disappearing since Covid. Consumers have chosen to go to private owned places because they care more about service not a bottom line labor number in order to reach a bonus. This was our first time visiting a Cheddar's restaurant. The shrimp was nice size in the pasta but you will need to peel each one individually and same with the appetizer shrimp. The pasta was very salty. The Air Conditioner was not working when we went 7/29/2023. The food was not good we left it on the table, paid and left. The staff was nice but exhausted due to the heat. The restrooms were clean. I recommend experiment with a different dish and check for a working AC before visiting. read more

Food was good, not great. I want so bad to like this place again after a 13 year hiatus but every time I visit, it's grimy. My mom and I had the chicken tender salad and it was good, but some of the lettuce was not desirable and the chicken wasn't warm. The croissants are slathered with butter that had a freezer burnt taste. Lots of good stuff on the menu and plenty of potential.
