The food and drinks are good, the fire pit is great, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, the service is friendly, but there are some things lacking that prevents this restaurant from receiving 5 out of 5 stars. On my most recent visit, I noticed a "kitchen appreciation fee" tacked onto the bill. Please, Cheever Tavern, make this optional. To sneak this onto a bill is disingenuous. Be up front about it, and maybe your patrons will surprise and amaze you with their generosity. It starts out as 1.8%, but before you know it, this will balloon out of control. Don't believe me? Check back in a few years from now and I'm sure we'll no longer be looking at 1.8%. Also, the value for the food is not there. read more

We made it to Cheever Tavern at long last and it did not disappoint. From the beets + whipped ricotta on Grilled Toast w/ this OMG Lavender Honey (that I'd love to recreate at home) to my Pappardelle Bolognese pasta (that I enjoyed the next night as leftovers) to my husband's Rib eye cooked to perfection- we loved it. The vibe felt so warm w/ the fireplace and quaint bar. I pictured myself returning on a cold, snowy night to enjoy their fireplace and Short rib burger on my next trip. Love this new restaurant in downtown Norwell! Outside patio is wonderful especially with the firepit - the inside is gorgeous and has been renovated beautifully! The blueberry pomegranate martini was delish! We absolutely loved our food -- cheesy tots were to die for, flat bread was delicious and the chicken wings were awesome. The bolognese was one of the best I've had and my husband loved the norwell hot chicken sandwich - the truffle fries were amazing!! Will definitely be going back! read more

So we ate here a few months after it opened, which was a dining debacle (e.g., 80 minutes for burgers), though the truffle parm fries were to die for. We thought we'd give it a few months to sort out the bugs, when Covid hit. Went back tonite and kinda feel abused. Was initially told 45 mins for an outside table and got drinks and went to the patio waiting area. Inside was very loud. Then got a text indicating a 15 min wait. Ten mins later got a text stating 45 mins. Staff were surprised by this when told. We later noticed other patrons in the waiting area eating. Waitress then told us we could be seated, and we asked if we could order apps in the waiting area. She said yes, so we declined the table and ordered. Hostess then came out with obvious attitude to basically scold us for not taking the table, when we were never informed that we could eat in the waiting area to begin with. Got our food after 70 mins since entering. Steak tacos (2) were pretty tasteless, with overdone steak and somewhat stale tortillas. Pita chips also tasted a bit out of date. Mexican corn was OK, but not as spicy as one would expect or like. Our server Morgan was professional and polite. We'll give this place another year or 2 to further sort out all the issues. Ordered take out at 6:55pm and they quoted 40 minutes on the phone . We are sitting in our curbside spot on time and now waiting. Have called 3 times. It's now 1.5 hours since we initially called. We had to go in to try and get order. Got back to the car and order was missing 2 items. Went back in and one item is 86'd. Not going to run back here soon, and it's too bad, I was excited about their menu and having a new restaurant around. If you can't keep up with your patrons in the restaurant then suspend take out, and stop taking to go orders. I'd rather be told no and try another time than do what we did tonight. I've been to Cheever Tavern several times, and can't say enough about the great food, drinks and service at such an awesome location in town - there's no better place to grab dinner and a beer in Norwell than the new outdoor patio and inviting fire pit. The menu on its own is phenomenal (Wagyu sliders and wings not to be missed, bolognese is outstanding also), but there are also great specials available every night for anyone wanting to try something new. The host staff were completely miserable and ignorant. We had a reservation and they refused to accommodate one more person. We were seated in the corner of the bar at a high top. There were open/available bar chairs (and tables!) the entire time we were there and we were told we could not use. We ordered our drinks, apps and dinner with one person in our party standing the entire time. The manager walked by over a dozen times and never said a word. The waitress (Samantha) was very attentive and pleasant. The food was average and the atmosphere was extremely loud. If you're looking to be surrounded by a bunch of stuck up Norwell nobodies in a boujee environment than this is the place. read more

Sad to report not a good visit the food was average at best and the service was not what it once was. I've come to Cheever Tavern a few times with friends and the food was good and service was friendly and enjoyable. She was on the tall side had brown hair and she gave some great drink suggestions! This time that was not the case. We felt the waitress was not interested at all and was not attentive. Last time we were all in the manager was very nice and she came around to check on our visit. This time the service was rushed and rude. Probably won't be back disappointed but most restaurants are headed in this direction read more

Good Afternoon, I have a delicious meal last night at Cheever. My harvest pasta was extraordinary and served hot just the way I like it. Waitress was friendly and did a fine job. My only negative was the serving of cornbread. It was excellent even though it was small. We ask for more bread and were told that we need to pay for it. We are talking about 1 1/4 inch cornbread and we have to pay $3 for more of the same. Really! read more

The absolutely wonder cuisine ties in perfectly to the contemporary style. The vast menu was filled with mouth-watering options and the kind staff assisted me with finding the item that I may like the best. I eventually ordered the Lobster Roll, with a side of Cay's Clam Chowder. Both were filled with flavor and packed with an excellent value for the price that you paid! I made an easy reservation on Easter Sunday, 2021. Although that easy reservation was quite necessary, I heard; me and my friends were glad we made one. It is a popular place, and I completely understand that! We left with plenty of time and we kindly, were directed to the nearby shops and sights by the knowledgeable staff. I feel very comfortable and I am proud to say, that I fully enjoyed my experience that Cheever Tavern! I would undoubtedly recommend it to friends, family, and people who are looking for a great place to eat! I can't say enough about the Cheever. Everything here is 5 star. The staff, the environment and the food are incredible. I recommend just about anything on the menu but the short rib burger is unreal. My wife loves the beet and bean burger. They have a great rotating selection of beers, and their martinis are awesome. We had dinner at Cheever Tavern last Saturday as an early Father's Day celebration. We had an exceptional experience. The service was terrific and we got a lot of attention from the GM and Asst GM, both who roamed the restaurant and outdoor seating area ensuring that everyone's meals, drinks, and service were on point. The food was excellent. We split multiple appetizers (burrata, cheese plate, octopus) among the 6 of us, all were delicious. For dinner we had burgers, salmon, and the seared tuna special. Love the outdoor fire pit to sit around and the outdoor seating environment. Food was very good and waitstaff very nice. Loved the flatbread pizza with the ricotta, and the guacamole appetizer. Family that got lobster rolls and salmon were very pleased. I got the turkey burger and didn't find it to be anything special, even though they gave you two patties. Reminded me of sausage patties because of consistency. Been twice to dine on the patio and has delicious food, drinks, great service and lively ambiance both times! Husband got the chicken sandwich and found it to be delicious- even more so than the burger he got the next time. Truffle fries are delicious and unique, the Mac and cheese side was thick noodles and delicious sauce. Bolognese pasta is homemade. Wonderful addition to the town center! read more

Atrocious is just one of the words that come to mind when thinking about Cheever tavern. Ok, I have to admit the food is great, but the staffs unwillingness to accommodate me and overall unfriendliness trumps any delicious dish. And don't even get me started on the pretentious crowd of "karen's" this place attracts. First of all, they wouldn't let us switch seats despite the restaurant being mostly empty at my time of arrival. And then I witnessed a perfectly pleasant party being rushed off because their "90 minutes" was up. Even because of covid restrictions I've never seen such rude staff abruptly rush a party from a restaurant. Food was amazing, more than satisfying portions, allowing for some take home - all this for a reasonable price. I want to like this place and have given it multiple tries. Each time I visit, something happens that ruins the visit. This time, it was being seating in the full sun on a sunny, 80 degree day (other tables were empty) with no shade and the subsequent refusal to move a patio umbrella that was standing nearby by itself over to provide some relief. They also took an hour to serve our meal leaving us only 30min to eat in our 90min window. Prior experiences have included being reminded that we only had 90 min to the point that it was uncomfortable (as other reviewers have mentioned) and being forced to order food before being permitted to order drinks despite having a dinner reservation with a child. I understand that some issues are mandated due to COVID but their consistent absolute lack of willingness to accommodate guests or acknowledge that their service is off-putting will prevent me from visiting again. read more
