Honestly shocked at the treatment we just received here. I am actually shaking. From the moment we sat down (3 moms and 6 kids), we all exchanged a glance at the brusque attitude of our server. She continued throughout the service to give us nasty faces and a general attitude. We all noticed it, and commented to each other about what might be bothering her. We were the only group sitting inside (except for people at the bar) and our children did not run around, or leave their seats, or scream or cause any disruption throughout the meal, so her behavior cannot be blamed on them. There was no smile, no chit chat, nothing pleasant about our interaction with her. We asked for separate checks, but when it finally arrived, it was a single check with a 20% gratuity added on. I understand the 20% for large parties who may be drinking or something like that, but realistically our group was 3 adults. We all agreed that she had not even provided 5% service, let alone 20% and really felt like she had not cared how she treated us because she knew she'd be getting a tip at the end. We had to separate the check ourselves, while she kept coming back over and asking if we were ready. Then, after she tried to double charge me and gave me an attitude for correcting her we asked to speak to the manager. One mother started to explain to him that we weren't asking for money back we just thought he should be made aware of the behavior of his employee. He became agitated right away (with his hands clenching and unclenching) and glossed over her concerns, immediately defending the server saying she was always all smiles and always had a great attitude, even though he had not been present at any point during our service. Suddenly, he lunged forward with a raised voice toward my 5 year old son who was playing with a crayon and rolling the butter knife over it "STOP THAT NOW, Those are very expensive tables". Then he turned to me and said "I wasn't coming at him, but those tables cost money". If you provide crayons for children at a restaurant, you should be aware that children are going to play with them. I started to speak and say that regardless of whether she was generally a good server that was not the experience we were given, and he interrupted me and said "I've heard what she said, and now you need to listen to my side and I already told you I'd say something but she never acts like this and that's really all I have to say." His hands clenching and unclenching the entire time. I worked in customer service for 10 years and cannot believe the initial interaction we had was followed by an even worse experience with the manager. It was like he was ready for a fight as soon as he came over to our table. I don't think I've adequately expressed how awful the treatment we had here was, but I do not know how else to word it to really emphasize how they acted toward us. This restaurant is definitely NOT child friendly and has very poor customer service. They have 3 less local families as customers because of this experience. None of us will ever go there again, and I will definitely be sure to let others know this is not a good place to eat. I've never had an experience like this at any other restaurant. Much ado about nothing. A week before the only reservation I could get was a 5:00 so my wife and I took it. She got the short rib tacos I got the chicken pot pie. Both were small portions. The pie was blah at best with not a lot of flavor-same with the taco-nothing to write home about. Small seating area inside hence the weeks wait for a resy.. Overrated at best. read more

I had the half baked mac and cheese with the hot chicken, it was creamy with some heat, really outstanding. my wife had the street tacos, she loved them. my oldest who is a vegetarian really like the ravioli. my youngest had the chicken fingers and fries. ABOUT ALLERGIES This review is a few days late since I was compiling sources, but I'd like to start with the food tastes amazing according to my wife. Unfortunately, cheever tavern is not serious about allergies. I have been to Cheever tavern 2 times in the past year, both times I have been contaminated with my allergen. The first time I ordered a dairy free burger. I get my food and the burger has cheese on it. I send it back and it comes back the same, so I end up sitting there while I watch my wife eat her food not touching mine. My second visit, I ordered the salad dairy free. I did takeout this time. They had put feta on my salad. The service at Cheever tavern is outstanding, however the cooks clearly aren't. If you have an allergy please do not eat here. Multiple of my friends who also have allergies say they have been contaminated here. My wife who has no allergies stated that the food is extremely good, so if you are allergy free, don't hesitate to go! read more

Sweet place. We sat outside at a socially distant table and although it was a cold day we were pretty comfortable. There are outdoor heaters and a fire pit. We enjoyed the poached eggs, scrambled eggs, and amazing hummus plate unlike any other hummus plate we've ever had. read more

This was our fourth time at Cheevers - it's a gem! The outdoor patio is lovely: cozy and quaint with a gorgeous gas fire pit. The staff, most specifically the manager Stefania, has gone out of her way to accommodate us with our toddler. She is warm and welcoming and does her very best to find us seating whenever possible. The staff is also very welcoming, and the menu has a wide variety, including a nice kids menu which important for us. The burger is delicious, as was the Bolognese. My daughter is obsessed with the fries. Tonight we ran into several different couples we knew! Clearly Cheevers is a hit for our friends, and certainly for us!! The location is very quaint (a little confusing for GPS), the restaurant itself is nicely decorated, well staffed, it was really easy to get a reservation, it was clean and overall a very nice restaurant. My meal was amazing but my husband had the buffalo mac and cheese with chicken, and it was pasty and "flat". I'm not a foodie, so I'm not able to use good descriptors, other than it was bland and disappointing. I had the chicken on a brick and the chicken was delicious, the brussel sprouts were savory and crunchy, mixed with the mashed potatoes. I really enjoyed mine. Had a cocktail which was also great. The atmosphere at Cheever is amazing-we ate out on the deck and there is something about having a meal while overlooking an old New England graveyard that absolutely delights me. The general ambiance is relaxed, but elevated. The simplicity of the design and the tableware allows the food to shine. And the food is amazing. My husband and I agreed that the shrimp tacos may have been the best food we've ever ever eaten. The staff was attentive without being intrusive-a difficult balance. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices. A restaurant of this caliber in this location could clearly have charged more. read more

Just ate here tonight with another couple and everything was amazing! We ate on the patio and made reservations on Resy and were seated as soon as we arrived. To start we had the guacamole, flats bread, and chicken wings - all were great and nothing left! For meals our group ordered the chicken sandwich, Bolognese, and steak tips - everything was fantastic - I highly recommend the steak tips and truffle fries! Cheever Tavern has been one of my favorite new spots on the South Shore. The set-up, both indoors and outdoors, is stunning and the food is delicious. As someone with dietary restrictions, particular for gluten and vegetarian preferences, I appreciate how clearly the menu is marked with what options are available to me that meet my preferences, and that it isn't just salad! Unfortunately, we were unable to rate the full experience at Cheever. We attempted to take the family out on a Tuesday night for an early 5pm dinner. Upon arrival, there were 2 other parties seated. The place was 95% empty. Not a single person in the bar area. The hostess asked if we had a reservation, which we replied we did not. After checking the reservation schedule, they stated they could not seat us due to incoming reservations at 6:30. It was 5pm. We attempted to accommodate them by offering to sit in a high top area at the bar, but they made up some excuse about not having enough stools. Finally, after a long pause, they offered to seat us outside under a heating lamp. It was 25 degrees outside. I am not a hospitality major, but I would speculate that it may not be the best business practice to allocate your entire restaurant to reservations and turn away paying customers at the door. Needless to say, I will never return to this establishment. read more

It was a quiet lunch time. Our waiter was great . Two things that I ordered were not available . The short rib tacos were disappointing with cold soggy corn tortillas and tasteless meat. For a while this location was a run down and disgusting bar but now that Cheever Tavern has moved in things have really turned around. My girlfriend and I went for our first time last night. The patio was very popular but we sat inside as it was still insanely hot. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated, I think they may have overdone it with the light fixtures but otherwise 5 stars on setting. We got the arugula salad to start, it was very fresh and a great starter. For the main course I got the Norwell chicken Sandwich while my girlfriend got the salmon. Both were great, fresh, well presented. Obviously this is no Michelin star restaurant but the food is very fresh, there are great options and it is not over priced at all. A very reliable option for dinner or brunch. read more

The staff was super friendly The orders took quite a while to come out of the kitchen. The food wasn't anything spectacular. We ordered the Shepherds Pie and Pasta Bolognese, and for dessert ordered the French Toast Bread Pudding. I would say the Shepherds Pie was very good, and The Bolognese was underwhelming. My wife did not finish it. My wife could not eat her Bread pudding, she said it did not have any flavor. She had 1 cocktail and 1 app as well. The bill came to 160.00 for 2 people. I did not drink. In my opinion, there are other restaurants close by for more reasonable prices. They also charge a 2% Kitchen appreciation fee. Not sure why if food is average at best. read more

We've been fortunate enough to visit Cheever's a few times now. The build out of the inside was really, really well done with a nice big bar, a modern beach theme, with just a touch of exposed brick. The deck, patio, and fire pit area add a bunch of great outdoor seating options. The church steeple with under-lighting is a really cool view as you sip your night cap by the fire pit. The menu is the limited opening menu for obvious reasons but it still manages to provide a great variety and some fun plays on dishes you don't see everywhere. For instance, a great take on Nashville hot chicken. I can't wait to see the expanded menu. The chef has done a really nice job with homemade sauces, dips, and dressings - a great homemade touch. Staff is welcoming, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. It has a family dynamic with an aim to make sure everyone is pleased and comes back to enjoy another night in Norwell center - I know we will be. read more

Had tried to get in here on numerous occasions with friends but it was always too crowded. ambiance was appealing. finally got in tonight and was excited to try this newer buzzing tavern. we were all disappointed. Food was good but not spectacular and I thought over priced. beer very expensive as well. we made reservations for a high top which was in bar area and the bartender was our server. we waited quite a while between server times and things were not taken care of when we asked for (like salt and pepper, leftover container, dessert menu, taking order). I suggest if bartenders are serving tables, you should have a bar back, to attend to dishwasher and stocking, which seems to be quite time consuming. Overall 2 hours and over $200 for 1 app , 4 beers and a drink, and 4 dinners, was a disappointing read more

Very recently I visited this tavern for dinner with a friend. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. About an hour later our waitress who bordered on rude was trying to get us to leave. My friend was still finishing her drink so we sat for another 10 minutes at which time she returned and told us we had to leave because the table was reserved for another party. I asked the waitress how long we had the table for and she said 90 minutes....we still had 15 minutes left and we were told we had to go. We also had to deal with several flies circling our food the entire time. The food was just okay...the cocktail was the highlight of the meal, the flatbread pizza wasn't memorable and the fish coating was over fried. New menu -they took chicken & waffles off the menu which had before and they are known for- wth. Heard 3 other tables ask for it.
