3.5 - 4 stars I had the clam chowder and the cod. My son had the stuffed clams and the Sheherd's pie. Clam chowder was tasty, but lukewarm. The size was between a cup and a bowl. (Too small for what they charge in my opinion). Cod was fresh and nicely seasoned - not overpowering. Green beans were tasty, but cool/cold. My son's stuffed clams were very tasty and came with greens which added nicely to the taste of the dish. His Shepherd's pie was piping hot (too hot for his liking) and had a dearth of vegetables. The restaurant had a nice ambience: keeping the structure of the old decor while updating with a nicely paneled ceiling and cheery robin's blue and white paint. The outdoor dining looked inviting with the warm fires. Staff was pleasant. I would recommend trying this restaurant for lunch or brunch first if they offer those. I would not pay those prices for dinner again which was good, but overpriced. read more

This spot is very classy and if you're looking for a fine dinning experience with great tasting food, you should go here. The service is great and the waitress we had was very nice to us, speaking with us about the menu and making our visit pleasant. There was a bit of a wait for the food but, it was well worth it given the food was outstanding. Everyone in my party was satisfied with their meal including myself. Their menu is on the smaller side but, each item on the menu I would give a try! There is inside dinning and outside dinning. The building itself looks very pretty and the inside of the restaurant is well taken care of. The manager walks around each table making sure each party is satisfied with their needs. They also do a great job wearing masks and making sure things are sanitary. I will 100% be returning to the Cheever tavern and recommend this place to anyone! read more

Why the 4 star and not the 5...? Everything was DELICIOUS however the mussels had cilantro in them with fresh parsley... I loathe cilantro and would have asked for this to not be added to the dish from the get go but it was a surprise the first bite. We picked it off and ate it anyway along with brining it to the waitresses attention to make sure the herbs in the kitchen weren't miss labeled, we still ate it all. Also they don't have Kettle One vodka or homemade blue cheese olives which is what every martini needs....Everything is else was spot on! Service was attentive and friendly. Cheever tavern has a very nice space both indoor/Bar and outdoor patio seating. Everything is new and modern. We went as a family of 4. Overall is was ok. The service was very so-so, lacked any enthusiasm and follow through, but they do use the toast hand held ordering devices so that atleast kept things in order. We got a variety of dishes, fish and chips, ravioli, mac and cheese and shortribs. Fish was the best choice, other dishes lacked flavor and portions were small compared to the prices. We WANT to love this place but it's hard. Atmosphere is fantastic, indoor and outdoor. Staff has been attentive and friendly, and drinks and apps are great, however each time we've been for dinner, the entree's have been supremely sub-par. The bolognese greasy and no flavor, the chicken parm dry and what my husband called "jar sauce", the pork chop way way overcooked. Mac and cheese dry as well. I finally had my chance to eat at Cheevers and it was worth the wait!! The food was incredible and great range of options. The stir-fried shrimp & rice and Bolognese were my two favorites- incredible!! The hummus was also very Flavorful with delicious toasted pitas. Finally, the desserts! Very unique and spectacular!! That's just the food! Great bar, interesting drink menu they change with the seasons. The ambience and overall vibe of the restaurant is really cool. They have both inside and outside seating under white twinkly lights. Beautiful for summer, spring or fall evening. The wait staff was also fantastic --incredibly helpful with suggestions and no rush- a laid back atmosphere with 5 star food! I honestly don't know what is wrong with this place. I was so happy when a new restaurant was going in there. The renovations and outside area are beautiful . The food is very average at best. The attitude of the staff is awful. We tried it again the other night and again experienced the most unwelcoming attitude. The hostess was completely incompetent and rude. I dont know why they have such an arrogant, rude attitude. The staff at a restaurant is supposed to be welcoming and show an effort to accommodate customers. They just dont get it, its weird. The restaurant is beautiful situated in a bucolic setting. The staff was fine although when we asked to sit outside we were told no, but every person who came in after us was seated outside, and there were still tables. Maybe they had reservations and not enough staff to man all the outdoor tables. I loved that they had a good gluten free menu. The prices were very high for the portion and the quality. We had 3 appetizers; buffalo wings, calamari and cauliflower. Each dish was fine, but I've had better at 110 Grille. The same was true of our meals. Good, not great and the portion sizes were just enough to finish in the sitting. Again it was all fine, but not worth the $250 lunch tab. read more

What an amazing night at Cheever Tavern! I can't begin to tell you what an all-around perfect experience it was. From the minute we walked into our 8:15 reservation to the minute we left we were so impressed with this restaurant. The staff was incredible. They have an amazing wine list. The food was awesome, and the service and attention to my food allergies was above and beyond comforting. I had the bolognese and it was the best I've had. My husband had the short rib mac & cheese and he devoured it. For dessert my husband had chocolate cake and ice cream and said it was sheer heaven! If you haven't been to a Cheaver Tavern run. I continue to appreciate the tremendous effort put forth by the folks at Cheever. I last went to dine with my son for an early Saturday supper. There were plenty of folks still on the patio under the heaters, but we had a table inside. The tables were nicely spaced and the air seemed fresh, even inside (I had heard that they put in a super duper hvac system, so that made sense). My son ( a feeding machine) thoroughly enjoyed the Korean BBQ tacos to start and half baked mac and cheese, followed by Hornstra ice cream. I selected the special that night: lamb shank (cooked to perfection) with creamy polenta and asparagus. Amazing that they had all of my favorites in the same dish. The lamb was tender, not fatty, succulent. And I couldn't resist getting a slice of the special dessert, pecan pie, to go. Our server was attentive and outgoing, without being over zealous. Members of the management stopped by at the right time (between courses and never when my mouth was full) to check on our meal. Cheever made our mother-son "date night" into a special occasion just by doing their regular thing. They do not disappoint. read more

My new favorite restaurant. The waiter was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere is casual and clean and relaxed. There is a beautiful outdoor patio with heaters. I tried the mushroom tortellini despite not being a big fan of mushrooms or caramelized onions. It was so delicious, it is my new favorite meal of all time. I hope someday to venture out and try something else but that is unlikely as I am a creature of habit. The Caesar salad was the best I've ever had. I wanted to lick the bowl. So disappointed in Cheever Tavern. The first time we went there it was great! But today I went there for my Veterans Day lunch with my wife. Pulled up at 11:45am and looked slow. Not many cars in the lot. Walked up and saw multiple tables open outside. Walked inside and was told if you did not reserve a table you can't sit outside.... there's was NO wait! Was excited to try this spot for brunch but sadly disappointed. The ambiance and decor is 5 star but the food needs some tweaking! We sat outside on the deck and it was beautiful, however food did not compare! I'll start with the Bloody Mary,came with nice accoutrements but when I bit into my celery spear it was mush, must have been days old! I asked for an ice coffee with half and half, server decided to put in herself and I literally got a glass of half and half! Coffee should be easy! My husband got the tuna app for his entree-while we realize it's an app the tuna looked like it was sitting on a bed of yellow mustard(yuck) and it said it came with a soba noodles salad-literally there were 3-noodles r cheap I'm sure you can do better! Lastly, was the bread issue, the bread that came with the cheese plate was supposed to be a crostini but it was totally mushy and gross-cheeses were great! I got the avocado toast-a plate came out with an abundance of 6 pieces looked huge but the sourdough bread was so bad, it was almost like it had been frozen-but I love sourdough bread and this was just really bad! ABOUT ALLERGIES This review is a few days late since I was compiling sources, but I'd like to start with the food tastes amazing according to my wife. Unfortunately, cheever tavern is not serious about allergies. I have been to Cheever tavern 2 times in the past year, both times I have been contaminated with my allergen. The first time I ordered a dairy free burger. I get my food and the burger has cheese on it. I send it back and it comes back the same, so I end up sitting there while I watch my wife eat her food not touching mine. My second visit, I ordered the salad dairy free. I did takeout this time. They had put feta on my salad. The service at Cheever tavern is outstanding, however the cooks clearly aren't. If you have an allergy please do not eat here. Multiple of my friends who also have allergies say they have been contaminated here. My wife who has no allergies stated that the food is extremely good, so if you are allergy free, don't hesitate to go! read more

I love the food ... please bring back the chicken skins as they were just out of this world! The artisanal drinks are delicious - you can tell meticulous effort is put into every cocktail. The menu has just the right amount of options ... love the tacos (yay that change seasonally), bolognese and chicken sandwich are my main go to! How do you get the fries to look and taste so good! Honestly shocked at the treatment we just received here. I am actually shaking. From the moment we sat down (3 moms and 6 kids), we all exchanged a glance at the brusque attitude of our server. She continued throughout the service to give us nasty faces and a general attitude. We all noticed it, and commented to each other about what might be bothering her. We were the only group sitting inside (except for people at the bar) and our children did not run around, or leave their seats, or scream or cause any disruption throughout the meal, so her behavior cannot be blamed on them. There was no smile, no chit chat, nothing pleasant about our interaction with her. We asked for separate checks, but when it finally arrived, it was a single check with a 20% gratuity added on. I understand the 20% for large parties who may be drinking or something like that, but realistically our group was 3 adults. We all agreed that she had not even provided 5% service, let alone 20% and really felt like she had not cared how she treated us because she knew she'd be getting a tip at the end. We had to separate the check ourselves, while she kept coming back over and asking if we were ready. Then, after she tried to double charge me and gave me an attitude for correcting her we asked to speak to the manager. One mother started to explain to him that we weren't asking for money back we just thought he should be made aware of the behavior of his employee. He became agitated right away (with his hands clenching and unclenching) and glossed over her concerns, immediately defending the server saying she was always all smiles and always had a great attitude, even though he had not been present at any point during our service. Suddenly, he lunged forward with a raised voice toward my 5 year old son who was playing with a crayon and rolling the butter knife over it "STOP THAT NOW, Those are very expensive tables". Then he turned to me and said "I wasn't coming at him, but those tables cost money". If you provide crayons for children at a restaurant, you should be aware that children are going to play with them. I started to speak and say that regardless of whether she was generally a good server that was not the experience we were given, and he interrupted me and said "I've heard what she said, and now you need to listen to my side and I already told you I'd say something but she never acts like this and that's really all I have to say." His hands clenching and unclenching the entire time. I worked in customer service for 10 years and cannot believe the initial interaction we had was followed by an even worse experience with the manager. It was like he was ready for a fight as soon as he came over to our table. I don't think I've adequately expressed how awful the treatment we had here was, but I do not know how else to word it to really emphasize how they acted toward us. This restaurant is definitely NOT child friendly and has very poor customer service. They have 3 less local families as customers because of this experience. None of us will ever go there again, and I will definitely be sure to let others know this is not a good place to eat. I've never had an experience like this at any other restaurant. Sweet place. We sat outside at a socially distant table and although it was a cold day we were pretty comfortable. There are outdoor heaters and a fire pit. We enjoyed the poached eggs, scrambled eggs, and amazing hummus plate unlike any other hummus plate we've ever had. read more
