I ordered delivery from this restaurant and they really shined. The fried food was crispy, the order was delivered hot and packaged very well. The only criticism is that the dumpling wrappers had a sticky texture to them. This is usually a result of not waiting for the water to fully boil prior to starting to cook. I went a few years ago and didn't go back. I was craving some broccoli chicken so I decided to stop in on a whim. I'm glad I did. It was really good. Best Chinese food in the Warren area hands down. Forget Main Moon, it hardly even compares and the staff at MM are unfriendly and even rude at times. The Chow Mei Fun is to die for. Not skimpy on portions, everything is so fresh, nice size meat portions and veggies crispy to perfection and food never feels greasy or heavy. Used to go to Great Wall but their food and service has declined so decided to try Chef Chen. Ordered combo plates which include the main entree, pork fried rice and a pork egg roll at a very reasonable price and with very generous portions and packaged with care including all the sauces you could want and need, plus fortune cookies. Had the a chicken and Broccoli and it was very good with plenty of both ingredients. The egg rolls are big and tasty. Also ordered some chicken soup and it was very good also. You never leave a Chinese restaurant without coming out of there smelling like fried msg...but not here. I also complimented them in person. Only get 3 's because food was bland to me. Surprise surprise!!! My expectations for Chinese takeout in the Howland area were very low... but I am pleasantly impressed with the food and the thoughtful way it was packaged for delivery. The paper bag had a cardboard placed in the bottom of the bag to stabilize it and keep the food from dropping out the bottom! I appreciated that touch very much. And.... when I removed the food containers there was a little pink sticker saying THANK YOU! Everything was properly done and juicy, Our Human beef and chicken lo mein were very good, meat looked like real meat and both chicken and beef were tender. The veggies crisp and generous. Our pork egg roll was dense and full of vegetables.... though I didn't see the pork... the crab Rangoon wrappers were a little too chewy, but we received a good portion of sweet and sour dipping sauce... overall ... the best Chinese takeout EXPERIENCE... in the Howland area. Okay so let me start off with this was a nightmare due to ordering through DoorDash but the restaurant was amazing and handled everything with immense grace. DoorDash made it impossible to order a combination special due to needing to choose an egg roll but no option. So I went with the next best option the 25.00 family dinner for two option. I entered my choices and noticed I couldn't specify lo mein and shrimp fried rice. I proceeded to finish the order and called the restaurant to ensure we were able to get the upgraded sides and what was needed to process any additional charges. They stated due to DoorDash that DoorDash had to get approval from me in order to amend and add the charge. So next I got on chat with DoorDash help and they stated the accommodation could not be met. (This the third night in a row we ordered in via DoorDash due to COVID - 19 and not wanting to risk going out and the prior two nights our orders arrived wrong mind you.) I then proceeded to call the restaurant and explain DoorDash wouldn't allow me to add the charge for the 4.00 which wasn't an issue just a lot of effort at this point. He stated there was nothing he could do. At this point around 9 pm I was almost in tears because it was my birthday and nothing was working out. I asked if I could have them process the Credit Card over the phone for the difference because this was my birthday dinner. At this point we were told we would pay 4.00 for the shrimp friend rice but it came with one side so I agreed to forgo the lo mein. The extremely nice gentleman who helped me on the phone stated he didn't want to take the 4.00 because it was my birthday and not to worry. I insisted to pay the difference and he adamantly refused to accept the payment and told me to enjoy my birthday. I was very impressed with how he handled this and he stated how they keep having issues with DoorDash. I then right before delivery got a call from the restaurant and the same gentleman was calling notifying me they included the lo mein at no cost and added in 2 pieces of cheesecake for my birthday. In no way did I expect this but truly I was impressed and this was prior to even tastings their food but on customer service alone I was pretty blown away thus far. When the food arrived it was two full bags. The food was amazing. I will list what we ordered mind you we have honestly a good 6 meals for two people from a 60.00 order not including the free items (cake and lo mein added.) Pork Egg Roll - very small but tasty so be ready Spring Rolls - very standard but just the right crispy Crab Rangoon - some of the best I've ever had General Tso (mild) - he said "excellent!" General Tso (spicy) - it was spicy and delicious Shrimp Rice - very good and amazing amount of veggies Fried Rice - so yummy, plain used a bit of soy but good Lo Mein - also plain but truly good totally worth trying House Hot Sauce - packed just the right punch House Chili Hot Oil - this is the best part to me a must try Wonton Soup - super flavorful broth with 2 wontons Overall PLEASE SUPPORT THIS AMAZING LOCAL RESTAURANT. Let's be honest...most people I know only order Chinese takeout for one of two reasons 1) having an unusual pregnancy-like craving for it OR 2) you had a rough-ass day and there's no way you're cooking. In either situation, my expectations are pretty low. But if it's edible and hot, I'm satisfied. My rating is based on the fact that THEY NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONE! Three times I've attempted to phone in a take-out order and the phone just rings forever. This then makes me have to place my order at the location (not that big of a deal). We just had the most disgusting meal from here. We got home from picking up our food and in the bag under the box of fried dumplings there was a maggot crawling. I had called to inform them of this and did not ask anything from them, but rather to make them aware of the situation. The lady was extremely rude and stated there was no way that this could have happened. She stated it was too cold in the restaurant for a maggot to survive and insisted it was a piece of rice or sesame seed even after we informed her it was crawling. First time trying Chef Chens and it was the best Chinese we have had in a while and would recommend it. We had General Tso chicken, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, lo mein and crab Rangoon.
