I was craving some American Chinese food so I decided to try Chef Chen's. Ordering online from their website was easy and the food was ready within 10-15 minutes after ordering. There is no indoor seating. It is takeout only. I overall thought the food was just okay and a bit under seasoned surprisingly. I actually reached for the salt shaker for the food. I did find the portions to be large though so I thought I got decent value here. -beef and broccoli was kind of bland and gummy. This one needed salt. -kung pao chicken was also okay but needed salt. Chicken was a tiny bit dry. -sesame chicken was not bad, a bit on the sweet side but I kind of liked it actually. We have been going to chef Chen's for over 25 years. I understand that the owners have changed. But we thought we would try the new situation for a big dinner on Christmas Eve. Fortunately the food fell way short. Flavors that we were so used to are just not there. The food was kind of bland. Did not have what we were so happy with before. We also were disappointed pet for such a large expensive order. We did not get any condiments, soy sauce, fortune cookies, etc. My family and I will not be going back unless we see reviews get better. The price is somewhat on the pricier side as dishes will run you -12-15$ but I think they do a decent job of giving adequate portions, as it will probably feed average person 1-2 meals. I had heard so much about this on Yelp & drove by & we saw how busy it was last year. It is some of the best I have had. It is interesting as you order outside & wait in your car; the guy will either call out your order or bring it to you when it is ready. My orange chicken over rice was excellent; tender chicken with a lite badder & flavorful slightly spicy cause. The rice was perfectly done, not dry or soggy. My mother loved her Singapore style rice noodles. The cool part is is that we had enough for two days. We will definitely be back to try more. Once a while I have a hankering for a specific form of chinese food, such as fried rice / fried noodle, basic stir fry dish. Chef Chen's by no means is a fancy chinese restaurant. It's basic but it gets the job done. It fulfill your stomach with good quality chinese food while not breaking your wallet. Parking is definitely an issue with the petite parking lot that's hard to maneuver with limited space, what else can i say, just come early then. Our office USED TO EAT HERE 1-2 days a week. Service was ok, it's pricey but food was convenient and close to our building. Food overall was better than decent tasting, so thats 1 star along w/convenience. After a few weeks of consistent visits, we started to notice pricing was getting gradually higher than usual. We had a supervisor attend w/us and she ordered appetizer chicken wings $8, bowl of rice and a can of coke. Her bill was $16 w/no tip. We were dumbfounded & asked whats the breakdown. They were charging a single bowl of rice $3.50 and soda cans $2.50!!!!!!!!!' Most/99% of all asian restaurants charge $1-1.50 for rice and same w/soda. Menu states soda diff pricing but when asked about it, she said old menu. Rice is not listed in side dishes etc. smh wth?
