My first time ever coming here and everything was delicious! I LOVE a good hole in the wall. They always have the best food!! Some things that I tried were: the shrimp poboy, the fried chicken and Jambalaya, the blackened fish and the bread pudding. All were so good. The 8inch shrimp poboy is big enough to share. I barely eat fried food but the onion rings were also delicious . It was def a treat. Service was quick. They bring the food to your table. I would def come back here again. read more

I got a shrimp po-boy and it was tiny breaded Chinese shrimp that were in a tube of French bread like "we never close" years ago on chef. If I had the "time" to order and sit down I would get a better experience.. Like the duck po-boy with some exotic addition. In the middle of August, someone trashed a whole foam box of oysters. Crabby Jacks may be one of the finest po-boy restaurants in the New Orleans area! They offer a variety of po-boys in both traditional and contemporary styles. One will find the requisite roast beef and fried seafood versions, cold offerings, etc. However, there are also speciality offerings that one must try to believe. One of these is the Roast Duck, which has big pieces of roast duck in a delicious gravy. Today I tried a Green Tomato and Shrimp Remoulade Po-Boy, which was a great option. It should be noted that these po-boys are overstuffed. I always said that there are as many fried shrimp falling out of one of these po-boys as many people put on a po-boy. Want a healthier option? One can have a grilled seafood version instead! Now, a word on size, regular is 8" but one can also get a 12" version for a few dollars more. Is this worth it? Only if one plans to take half to go, as most people cannot finish the full 12". While po-boys are famous here, there are other options! They have plates, which offer an entree, salad, and a side. There are also speciality salads for those who want to have a full-meal salad. Then there are the sides, these include the typical. However, this is in the New Orleans Area, sone can also get dirty rice or red beans and rice! I particularly like the cole slaw and potato salad. The onion rings are noteworthy as well... Regarding the establishment itself, it's slightly on the small side, and parking can be challenging. The interior offers family style seating at long tables, or a long bar at the windows facing Jefferson Highway, so one can watch the traffic go by. We love Crabby Jack's and Crabby Steve. The food is excellent, the banter friendly and the atmosphere lively. I dream of the Alligator Pimento Poboy. My husband loves the beef in the Fleur de Bree. And those Boudin Balls with the cheese are awesome. Buy a t-shirt and spread the love. read more

Feelin' crabby then head into this little gem in Nola. If you're craving po-boy then this is the spot. You can get an 8 or 12 inch fully dressed and filled to the max po-boy. They are stuffed full and I'm not complaining because it feed a family of four. We split the 12 inch. Two kiddos got the extra shrimp hold the bread and two adults each got half of a po-boy. We also ordered the smoked chicken that came with a side salad and fries. The chicken was hands down the most juiciest and moist chicken I have ever had. The fries were amazing crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. Also had to get the gumbo and a side of dirty rice both were so good. They have other things on their menu I will be doing back to try. This place does get busy and there is limited parking and seating. We've driven by Jack's 1000 times (usually during non business hours) First 500 times didn't even pay attention (other than the sign and fun name) as there are an Un-countable amount of eateries in Nola. The next 250 times was actually started noticing that during business hours the parking was consistently packed full! Then started noticing ALL of the great reviews and finally said "ok we need to see what this place is doing right". We FINALLY stopped by sat 2/7 and NOW we KNOW! the service was noticeably warm and welcoming. Crabby Jacks is the sister restaurant of the renowned Jacques-Imo's. When I found out Crabby Jack's markets itself for selling overstuffed po boys, we had to pay a visit. This place is so awesome. It's definitely local and casual. We arrived around lunch time and it was packed. So packed the only remaining seats were the bar stools lining the perimeter of the restaurant. For starters, we ordered the Boudin balls. If you're new to it like we were they're basically breaded balls that are stuffed with boiled pork, chicken liver, fluffy rice, diced veggies and Cajun aromatics. It's served with Creole mustard as a dipping sauce. Just get it. It's one of a kind. I ordered an oyster po boy and my husband ordered the duck quesadilla. My husband's quesadilla was definitely hefty and he absolutely loved his meal. It was big enough to have leftovers afterwards and held up well even after 2 days in a hotel fridge reheated. My po boy was delicious with good flavor however they underdelivered when it came to packing on the oysters. That was a disappointment. If you look at my photo, my po boy was sparsely filled with oysters. I thought their gimmick was overstuffed! They sell Dr. Bob originals on site in various designs and sizes. His work is lined along the restaurant walls. When we found out his art can be sold to the public, we took a liking to one and brought home a small, framed piece as a souvenir. Sandwich place on the industrial stretch of Jeff Highway. We went on a weekday at lunch. Small dining room, communal tables and window counter seating, busy! Fast turnover though so keep an eagle eye out to swoop in on spaces as they open up! We had the duck and the Dat Fire poboys. Huge portions. Delicious sammiches. The cole slaw was okay - you can get certain poboys with that included in the dressed, and it would have been aces with the duck. (It's how I ate my leftovers.) read more

We chose Crabby Jack's for a quick bite between appointments at Ochsner, and it did not disappoint. Obviously a local favorite, the little space was packed and the food looked amazing. My shrimp po'boy was indeed overstuffed and enough for two, but my hubby had to try the fried chicken too! This must be a great place to work based the attitude of staff. The decor.. says one thing, New Orleans food shack (though not a shack, lol). Wall art definitely says New Orleans. Duck quesadillas 10/10 duck was fill to every end and gooey with cheese Mac n cheese 6.5/10 slightly disappointed since the quesadillas was Gumbo 8/10 standard gumbo but has nice flavor/seasoning and decent amount of protein Potato salad 8/10 nice size potatoes and eggs. I just got the worst service from this place. I phoned in an order an hour ahead of time for 11:30am. When I got there about 5 mins early, they told me it wasn't ready but will be in a few minutes so I paid first. I patiently wait for about 30 minutes before I asked about my order. It turns out my order was just sitting there all that time and no one notified me. They wasted so much of my time and if I hadn't asked about it I would've still been waiting. Everyone there dropped the ball and didn't seem to care so it's unlikely I'll ever come back after that bad experience. read more

Took my wife and daughter to this great place for PoBoy sandwiches. My wife and I split the 12" fried shrimp and oyster Po-boy and my daughter got the 8" fried shrimp Po-boy. We asked to substitute remoulade sauce for Mayo on the Po-boys. Their remoulade sauce is awesome. When you pull up outside the building looks like a dive but don't let that put you off because upon entry you are greeted by smiling and friendly staff. The owner greeted us and took our order. He also brought our food to the table. They offered to split the 12" Po-Boy since we were sharing it. Inside their are several picnic tables for enjoying your meal. Walls are full of signs asking you to "Be Nice or Leave." Remember laissez-faire!! Great tasting food and friendly, fast service make this a must try in New Orleans. read more

5 stars for the duck po boy specifically. Could be the best po boy in the city maybe the state! Big chunks of duck so moist and juicy. To be fair, there are better places for a fried shrimp po boy and the jambalaya is tomato based which isn't particularly my favorite. Their potato salad is really good. Brought some friends here from out of town expecting good poor-boys bit wow what a letdown. Ive eaten here before and always had decent sandwiches but not on this visit. We ordered 2 oyster poor-boys, fries and a special item of the day brisket. the oyster sandwiches were sparsely populated with oysters and the French bread was too dense making it difficult to chew. My storage unit is close by and I'd been eyeing Crabby Jack's for quite some time. I finally decided to try it as a treat to myself on Good Friday. I learned that Crabby Jack's is in the same family as Jacques-Imo's, which I've also never been to, but heard nothing but good things about so I was excited. I got two, 12 inch poboys, one fish and one shrimp, fries and onion rings to share with my friend. Now disclaimer: it was storming this day so we got the food to go and we live about 20 minutes away. So my assessment of the food is when it wasn't at its freshest. Let's start with the pros: The shrimp poboy was definitely overstuffed, the bread was soft, but sturdy, and the onion rings were some of the best I've had. I do feel like both the fish and shrimp themselves were a little bland and not quite seasoned to my liking, but I always get my poboys dressed so all of the flavors together were just fine and gave me what I needed to satisfy my craving. I also feel like the catfish poboy was a little light on the catfish, however, I could tell that the ingredients were fresh and that always makes a difference. It was also a holiday where lots of folk are looking to enjoy seafood, so that could have contributed to the experience as well. This was our first stop upon arriving to NOLA for my son's birthday. We were warmly greeted and it was quite easy to order from the lovely ladies behind the counter. I opted for a shrimp and oyster po'boy and a cup of gumbo. Both were delicious. The po'boy was stuffed with perfectly breaded and shrimp, oysters lettuce, tomato and pickles and the bread was amazing. The gumbo was also fantastic. My son opted for the duck po'boy and he loved it. My husband ordered a special smoked chicken plate, and he polished it off in no time. We split an order of boudin balls with a lovely mustard sauce. Everything we ordered was absolutely wonderful. This is a spot that should not be missed if you're looking for good, authentic casual NOLA fare like po'boy and gumbo with very warm and efficient service. read more

I love this place and I hate this place.  I love the food and all the fried seafood po boys are excellent as are the slow roasted duck and the fried green tomato shrimp remoulade po boys.  Their fried chicken is also among the best to be found in New Orleans. They have some good plate lunches but the portions are on the smaller side (especially when compared to the huge po boys). I HATE the fact that they don't have but ONE public restroom to wash your hands before and AFTER you eat. I HATE the fact that there is very limited seating and I HATE the fact they ask for tips when they don't provide any service (back when they had lots of cute girls working there I didn't mind so much but those days seem to be long gone). You also need to get here at least by 11am if you want to eat inside without a wait and then they are only open for lunch and close at 3pm. I love the fact that the po boys are so overstuffed that you usually end up with so much food left after you eat your sandwich that you have nearly a whole other meal to finish with what has fallen out (this process is messy and you frequently want to clean up after but you have to rely on napkins alone!).  They do have good parking but they could probably stand to expand the dinning area and lose a few spots.  So to sum it up I would recommend just getting your food to go and you will be happy as if you attempt to dine in it just isn't very enjoyable usually. Took some friends from Colorado and it was spot on. We each had a different po-boy: the soft shell crab was huge, the oysters were a nice size, shrimp over-stuffed as usual and the duck had our friend's eyes rolling. Everyone is so incredibly friendly and accommodating. Cannot recommend highly enough! If I had to complain about something, the drink machine is on top of a tall counter and it is very difficult to see when the drink is near the top of the cup as it is being dispensed and I am 5' 7".
