His personality alone is worth the visit, and if you've never had african food, get the ox tail. my sister and i asked Simba if he knew how to make something that wasn't on the menu. without skipping a beat he said come back tomorrow before i open and i'll have it for you. we did just that and it was the highlight of our trip. this is a must stop if you're anywhere within an hour. look up a greeting in Swahili and HYPE THIS MAN UP! read more

Wow! Flavors were awesome. We had the masala fries yum! and the lollipop drumsticks, which were also very good. Hubs loved the chili hot sauce (not for the weak!!) and I loved The homemade buffalo ranch sauce which included some African spices. If you appreciate the nuances of the various African cuisines then you have to make your way to Chef Safari's Trailer! Chef offers amazing food and at a pretty reasonable price. The service is excellent, the food is crafted to order and we've never had to wait more than 10 minutes from ordering to eating! He's located at 901 E 2nd Ave, Durango, CO. the parking lot of the Elks hall. There are a few tables when the weather is nice. There is a park just a few blocks away and of course bringing the goodies home is a treat. Just had the Kenyan Ox Tail Curry with Fufu and the Ethiopian Spiced Vegetable Curry. I hate being the lone voice of dissent here, but the food that we got today was not good. We ordered the African fish and chips, as well as the chicken lollipops. The fish and chips were mostly chips with very little fish - three small pieces of cod that were mostly dry and bready. It was also surprisingly low on seasoning + flavor. The chicken drumsticks were a big scam for $12 - four tiny little balls of meat that were also devoid of flavor. Admittedly, we have ordered the wrong stuff - but the options we chose were not tasty. I finally made it to Chef Safari's food truck. I ordered online and the food was ready very quickly. We ordered the steak, tofu, and chicken skewers, the beet hummus and the cashew couscous. Everything was delicious. We really enjoyed the flavors and spices, and the grilled pineapple was the perfect compliment. Our 2 year old devoured the chicken skewer and loved the lentils that came on the side. This was a crowd-pleaser for the entire family! read more

If you want to try something different and absolutely delicious, this is the spot. It's been a long time since I visited a food truck that blew me away. We had the tagine and the appetizer sampler and every single thing was great. The flavors are fantastic and complex. Perhaps the boldest, most amazing flavors in Durango! Bravo, Chef Safari! We tried the chicken tagine and steak kebabs. first visit and it was amazing, everything was good. we got the dirt rice/chicken kabobs, came w/ a side of lentils, then got some of the bread w/ lentil curry and beef curry to sample, both curries were amazing, each dish comes w/ some sort of sauce and a few vegies so you get a sample of many flavors. the curries are not your indian or thai, complex blend of spices that meld perfectly. plaintains were very lightly fried, not greasy. although i liked them, they were more bland than the ones i had in ecuador as empanadas and fried on the side (everything comes w/ plantains there! ). still good as an appetizer. i love the concept of lots of little tastes, one potato, some lentils, some other vegies each w/ its own seasonings. read more
