Gorgoeus summer Sunday arriving 10am. Food truck is only option: My husband & I got what was on the small menu: #1: 3) Tacos (chicken, pork, & sweet potato) -very good! The sweet pot. one was magical, who knew? My husband said "I could eat 4 of these!" And #2: Breakfast burrito (smoked chicken). OMG, off the charts on flavor Packed with so much goodness...potatoes, eggs, fresh herbs, some kind of heavenly green chili salsa...& chicken melts in your mouth... (based on the tacos, guessing pork burrito may even be better!). One of the best foods either of us have ever had. Note: No coffee here, no Bloody Marys. They do have beer & wine. Plenty of tables in their open back area. Can see the Mississippi from most spots - we were the only ones there. Small menu - no matter. Tastes to travel for. Still savoring, hours later. Food truck with essentially same menu every Fri & Sat night if you want the affordable taste sensation. Their culinary expertise made us ready & willing to go for their high end $95/ 6-course per person/plate Fri/Sat night option now!

It was a very welcome surprise to find a place this good in this part of the rural Mississippi River valley. A family member booked this for a birthday celebration, so I took their word that it would be worth the trip, and they were right! The exterior is unassuming in the tiny Bay City, and the ambience is cozy, but not remarkable. The food and service, however, were extraordinary. I would say competitive with the best restaurants in the Cities. We had a fixed menu due to the size of our party and all the selections were superb. It started with an excellent vegetable soup with a tasty, nuanced broth, not exactly hot, but had a finish with a hint of spice. That was followed with a brilliant arugula salad with a blue cheese vinaigrette that, remarkably, satisfied both the blue cheese lovers and haters in the party. The one course that I was less excited by was an onion petal stuffed with mushrooms. It was good, but the balance was a little strong to the acid in the sauce. Interesting texture, but it needed something to balance the acid. I chose the lamb for the main which was simply excellent. Well cooked (to medium rare!) which let the flavor of the meat shine. After a nice cheese plate we finished with lovely lemon birthday cake which was bright counter to the savory meal. Throughout, the service was friendly and attentive. Lisa and Carrie, the owners, were lovely and satisfied all our special requests. The night was memorable for all. I grew up nearby and never would have expected a restaurant of this quality in the area. It would makes for a great conclusion to a day trip of enjoying the outdoors and historic sites along this scenic part of the river.

We visited the Chef Shack this past Saturday evening. We made a reservation, but the restaurant was pretty empty for 6pm. It did get a few more patrons as the night went on. Service - I have a few thoughts on this. While the servers were very friendly, it was very frustrating that they told us they had no room on the outdoor patio when we could clearly see multiple open tables outside. Very unaccommodating if you ask me. Also - though the food came in a timely manner, the drinks took at least 10 minutes each time we ordered another. Ambiance - The restaurant is very rustic and homey feeling. It fits well in the small town setting. Very cozy. Drinks - I have the Blueberry Mojito. This was delicious and I did end up ordering two. It was unique and refreshing, but like I already mentioned, took a fort night to create. Food - We had a couple different meals throughout the table. We split the vegetable omlet, smoked salmon and liver pate as appetizers, none of them really stuck out to me. I had the halibut special - very dry and sadly didn't have a ton of flavor. I also tried the steak and frites. The frites were great, but the meat was just average. Kind of disappointing actually. Overall - We will not be returning to Chef Shack. We did not feel out meal was of value for the prices.

Adorable French bistro, exquisite food, flawless service, beautiful design. I highly recommend this hidden gem. We loved how friendly everyone was and the food was wonderful. We had the 7-course tasting menu and every course was great.

The Chef Shack food truck treks into Minneapolis. But is their shotgun burrito worth the trek? @yelpmsp
    Troy J.

This review is based on my trek to the Chef Shack food truck in Minneapolis for the 'shotgun burrito' featured on their menu. Service was quick and friendly, but the Shotgun Burrito missed the mark during my visit. The burrito features pulled pork -- an excellent filling if the burrito had been filled with more of it. Instead, the burrito was overstuffed with bland beans and rice. Pork was only prominent in the center of the burrito. The last few bites of the burrito featured an tangy homemade slaw that provided welcomed bites -- but weren't enough on their own to redeem the meal. The burrito came with crispy home fries chips and homemade pickles. The Chef Shack may provide the best food truck experience in Bay City, WI, but it doesn't stack up well against food trucks like Vellee. Thankfully, it's still early in the food truck season and the Shack has time to up its game. When I return to the chef shack at the end of summer, I expect the food to be better -- or the truck to be absent... From its return trip to WI.

It was one of those dishes you don't want to end. A big shoutout to Marlin, the bartender, who made the evening even better. He was friendly, attentive, and provided great conversation along with excellent service. All in all, this spot delivered on atmosphere, drinks, food, and hospitality. We found the five course tasting menu to be interesting, but neither my wife nor I found the food to be delicious or memorable. Quality ingredients were top notch and the preparation and plating excellent, but we just didn't care for the flavors or combinations that came out. We expect when we get a tasting menu to have a few dishes that might miss the mark for us -- that's sort of the point. You're exploring the chef's ideas and dishes. It's strange when none of the dishes really hit with our palates and we travel all over the world in search of amazing food and dining experiences. To make matters somewhat worse, we did the wine pairing and oftentimes with the courses we found the wine did not pair incredibly well with the plates. Further, when the wine was served we never saw a bottle once and were never told about the winery, the vintage, etc. -- only the type of wine it was and what flavors we could expect. We've never had that before with a wine pairing. We encourage the chef to continue to explore his palate, creativity, and imagination and we look forward to the possibility of coming back again some time in the future to see how this chef and menu may have evolved.

I walked in on a random Monday straight from the airport hoping to grab a seat at the bar. I was lucky enough to arrive right before dinner rush and snag the last seat available by the window bar even without a reservation. The hostess kindly took my carryon bag and stored it for me while one of the servers walked me to my seat. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Fantastic place to hang out and have fun while enjoying good food and drinks with friends. Feels more like an approachable bistro than a stuffy fancy restaurant. The menu is a playful take of American classics with a French twist or viceversa in some cases. I started my meal with a single oyster. Refreshing and bright, it was the perfect way to open the meal. Next was the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Presentation was a bit sloppy with some soup dripping on the side of the bowl, but the soup was so velvety and delicious I couldn't care any less about. The crispy bread and melty, gooey cheese was immediate comfort on a plate. The tanginess of the cheese went perfectly with the natural sweetness of the soup. Third course was one of the most delicious risottos I've ever had. Earthy mushrooms, creamy , perfectly cooked rice topped with crispy green apple sticks and.....blueberries?! Yes, you read that right... blueberries and apple in a risotto. I would have this vegetarian dish any day. Finally for desert angel fruit cake. Fluffy and not overly sweet. Perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. I could eat this every day

My husband got the lamb wellington but they didn't have lamb and offered beef instead. The sauce was overly salted. So i couldn't try more than the tiny bite i took. I got The lobster risotto. It had mixed reviews but i thought i would try it and have my own judgement. It was also the waitresses favorite. I will say, the herbs in the risotto was over powering and the lobster which was supposed to be poached tasted grilled and was over cooked. Like many other reviews, i couldn't cut it with my butter knife. Perhaps a steak knife would've helped. But it still doesn't help the fact that it was over cooked. The side of butter was unnecessary as everything was too flavorful. And the edamames were just a tad bit too much. Escargot was over cooked. The herb butter was flavorless. We were very disappointed as this was what we were looking forward to the most. Fois gre was ok. $200 dinner and we were not impressed. But it was worth a try.

There is a lot to say about this restaurant, and most of it is very good. The ambiance had perfect energy. It felt lively, but never loud or overwhelming. It struck a really nice balance for a special night out. You could comfortably enjoy the experience and conversation. The service was exceptional. Not just friendly, but incredibly knowledgeable. Every course and every pairing was explained in detail, and the staff clearly knew their craft. Service - they absolutely delivered. We chose The W.C. Whitney Menu. I had the Premium Wine Pairing, which was excellent and very well done. My wife chose the Temperance Pairing since she does not drink alcohol. This was one of the few disappointments of the evening. Many of the drinks were designed to mimic the taste of cocktails and wine, while my wife does not care for the taste of alcoholic drinks. When it came to the food, there was a range. Some dishes were truly outstanding and worthy of Demi's reputation. Some were good but not exactly great. And honestly, a few were mediocre. With a tasting menu, you expect some variation, but at this level and at this price, mediocre does not cut it. Here's what it really comes down to. I would rate the experience itself 5-stars. But the cost of the evening did not come close to matching what was delivered. I was not looking for, or expecting value! We spent over $700 for the evening. Demi is very good. The service is exceptional. The ambiance is awesome. Much of the food is outstanding. But in my opinion, the overall experience did not justify the extremely high cost.

Seating is around the small, intimate bar where you observe the chefs preparing every dish for the night. The servers are shared so you don't get just one person for the night. We are not wine people, but I'd still recommend doing the wine pairings ,which is an extra add on. It was really fun to learn about the different wines and how they tasted with the plates. There is some down time in-between courses but nothing ever felt too long. It seemed like a perfect time to converse and enjoy watching the chefs do their thing. It took about 2.5hrs to finish our nine course meal. The courses were so tasty! I was a little nervous because of previous reviews but we really felt like every dish was put together nicely. We were so impressed with how intricate each dish was and how many ingredients came together. A favorite was the wagyu ribeye. Just so delicious. Yes, I wanted more, but it was about trying small plates and things you've never thought you'd try before. I was full and buzzed by the end of it. I also really appreciated getting the menu at the end of dinner. The whole time I was like what the heck did I just eat? Now, I can reflect on it even more. You are seated next to people but there was plenty of space where I didn't feel like my privacy was invaded. Everything about this experience felt intimate and well put together. Such amazing talent and delicious meals put together right in front of us.
