My soup was on my table, so I helped myself. The soup wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. I like to eat it with my sandwich for dipping effect, so I patiently awaited the arrival of my sandwich trying not to finish the soup, but finishing it anyway because it was getting cold. Walked to the register but couldn't get anyone's attention, so returned to my table. Approached the register again twenty minutes after finding my soup on the table and was handed a plastic container with a cold sandwich. The bread was slightly burned. The sandwich was just shy of an inch thick. If you google images for club sandwiches, I don't think there's a single one that can fit into an average jaw, due to the massive height to it. Can't believe I've been in Memphis this long and have never been to the High Point Terrace Shops, though I pass the area almost weekly on the greenline. Visited Cheffie's based on positive yelp reviews/chatter. Was amazed at how spacious the place is. There's way more room than there are tables and chairs. You can create your own sandwich or salad or order their theme sandwiches and salads. I chose the Santa Fe salad with Buttermilk Ranch with a bowl of Italian sausage and spinach soup (yeah, hadn't eaten all day). Both were pretty tasty. Along with the aforementioned items Cheffie's has an assortment of hand-crafted beers, their own (locally-roasted) coffee and a gelato station. The have an awesome deck (built around a massive tree). I used to adore this place until the last year or so. Mainly due to the customer service. I've had specific items that I've paid for left out of my order. And no one cared. I paid for bacon and avocado on separate occasions, in which I received neither. The restaurant only offered to provide the topping free on my next order. This doesn't address the inconvenience of the order not being prepared correctly the FIRST time, or the inconvenience of me having to drive there again and pay for another order to be made "whole". Additionally, the store has closed early without any notification any where in sight. I drove across town to place order only to see the staff starting to shut the store down and halt any incoming orders. I was turned away. To top it off, today I ordered a Cobb salad. Only to receive a bowl of blue cheese crumbles. I didn't customize extra blue cheese, go easy on the lettuce. Give customers what is ordered, not what you EXPECT they would enjoy. If I order a salad, I actually want the lettuce. I'm super annoyed by this. Especially, since I know contacting the store will resort in hardly any resolution. Who owns these stores and why don't they care? The menu items are fairly pricey compared to other restaurants of the same type. I'd at least think they'd care to provide superior quality and customer service to account for the SUPERIOR prices. I ordered a Cobb salad. Not a blue cheese crumble salad. No human on earth would want a salad saturated and covered with blue cheese crumbles. This caused my salad to be gummy and chewy due to the high amount of blue cheese crumbles included in my salad. And barely any lettuce. I hope the restaurant receives this feedback. My salad appeared to be delicious until I tasted. Tell the heavy handed blue cheese sprinkler this is NOT what customers want. Don't toast the bread AFTER you make the sandwich. They need to toast the bread before making the sandwich. Food is good but it's a huge mistake on our side when they asked us if we want the bread be toasted and we said yes... it's a total disaster! The sandwich became soggy, the bread breaking apart and the food pieces between bread dropping like crazy. imagine that one of the sandwich we ordered was their famous egg sandwich and kept breaking apart while eating it... the hands were all wet and sticky... ahhh... the other sandwich was BLT and same situation, fighting and competing with the food dropping. This place is my favorite salad bar and sandwich restaurant in Memphis. I always seem to get the Santa Fe salad or crunchy roast beef sandwich. The salad is so good and well mixed with ingredients. The sandwich also just is comfort food and taste so good. They are also decently fast. The only problem I have with them is that the way to dispose of your tray and dishes is cluttered and confusing. I ordered a make your own salad and when I arrived their was no place to park (no designated space) yet they offer curbside. The best way to describe this place is a salad and sandwich chipotle. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, I thought that this place was really neat. Between the bbq and heavy food of downtown Memphis, it is nice to have a salad place thrown in the mix. The staff were very nice to us, and were very efficient. I appreciate the conservation efforts of the restaurant, between the serving dishes and utensils, to the cups, which I recommend keeping, as they are made of durable multi use materials that you could use at home. The food was very fresh and tasty. Between the prebuilt selections, and the create your own options, the possibilities are endless. I always make a stop into Cheffie's whenever I'm in Memphis. It's my favorite place to get a salad in town. When you come into the restaurant, you order at the counter. They have a variety of salad and sandwich options, or you can make your own from any of the ingredients they have out at the salad bar. I recommend the Santa Fe salad - it has black bean, corn, tomatoes, and chicken with a buttermilk ranch dressing. You also have the option to get the salad chopped with dressing mixed in. Always do this!! I don't like bug chunks of lettuce in my salad, and by chopping up all the ingredients, i don't get that. They can then mix the dressing into the salad in a big bowl, which is way better than me trying to mix in dressing with my fork. The atmosphere is great with exposed brick and a cement floor. There isn't waiter service. Instead you walk through a cafeteria line, which can be confusing your first time. I'm a soup and salad junkie. Always have been. I've always been disappointed in the lack of soup and salad places in Memphis. Heck, even a Souper Salad would do in a pinch. How no one has ever pointed me in the direction of this salad mecca is beyond my comprehension. It's my oasis in a hot desert with no water. Just what I've been searching for- and search you must. You won't find this place just passing by. Which probably attributes to it taking almost three years to find it. On this particular day, I opted for one of their salad creations. If you're not feeling very creative they do offer some great selections of salad on their menu. If you would prefer, you can build your own. I opted for the curry chicken salad and a bowl of corn chowder. My husband went with the Greek salad and the chowder as well. I'm going to be nice and just say skip the chowder. It was very bland and had little flavor. I only had a few bites and fed the rest to my 10 month old. The salad however was divine. I am kind of in love with that curry chicken salad. Chunks of fresh chicken and apples in a curry dressing mixed with greens and a balsamic vinaigrette- it's perfection. It looks a little boring, but the taste is right on. Their Greek salad was typical, but they didn't skimp on the feta and olives in the slightest. They offer sandwiches, desserts, an entire case of gelato and wine as well. We entered and were assaulted by ice cold air conditioning, friendly staff, and delicious smelling food. I opted to build a veggie sandwich instead of a salad. I know, I know...boring. Negative. My sandwich was heaping with practically every veggie they had on the bar, along with spicy hummus and cheese on thick wheat bread. The sandwich was so large that we split it. After a 10 year hiatus, Cheffie's has re-opened in High Point Terrace. Clearly, the restaurant was missed because half of Memphis seemed to be having lunch there during the soft opening yesterday. It didn't seem overly packed, though, because the space is so huge. There was plenty of space at the long cafeteria-style tables and at couches. When it's nice out, there are plenty of tables on the shady patio. While Cheffie's has a small menu of classic sandwiches and salads, it's entirely more fun to choose the "create your own" option. You can have the friendly counter staff pile your custom salad or sandwich with as many toppings as you can take for less than $9. I chose a half-sandwich, half-salad option. My sandwich was a generous scoop of egg salad on some of the greatest wheat bread I've ever had. My notes from yesterday describe it as "stupid fluffy. I had my romaine salad topped with sliced egg, blue cheese, celery, bell peppers, red onions and vinegarette dressing. It's worth noting that Cheffie's has plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free items on the menu, and any of the existing sandwiches or salads can be edited to meet your dietary needs. For dessert, grab one of the huge rice crispy treats, dense hello dollies or home-baked cookies. Once the weather gets a little warmer, I'm going to have a hard time resisting visits to the side counter stocked with gelato, beer and wine. Given their location in a small shopping center High Point Terrace, Cheffie's will probably be packed come summer. The restaurant is about a block north of the Greenline, and they share their space with a bicycle repair shop. read more

I was a superfan of the old Cheffie's when it was on Mendenhall and Sanderlin. This new Cheffies has caused an uproar in my heart. The premise does not seem the same (take out items ready to go, displayed food in case), but the food quality appears to be unwavering. I ordered the Garden Delight sandwich to go, and grabbed a Pellegrino water by the register for my drink. Napkins were not in the bag, but I was told I could find some near the drink station. Chad, who took my order, was very easy to speak to over the phone (I checked the menu out on their website). Once I opened the sandwich in my car, I saw they'd done everything exactly as asked! Finally tried Cheffie's! Was running errands and needed a quick lunch. Cheffie's did the job. Great food, even better staff and so many options for everyone. They had 3 soups ( one vegan), a variety of sandwiches, a HUGE salad bars, and yum crunchies to top off your salad. I tried their garden veggie sandwich, but added pesto and asked them to grill it. Used Cheffie's for a big catering job last month - 58 boxed lunches. I worked with Jacky beforehand to make arrangements. He was professional and pleasant. On the day of delivery, food arrived a few minutes early, and the driver helped us set up. The order was 100% correct, including custom-made salads and sandwiches, requested to accommodate dietary restrictions. Stopped here on the recommendation of a friend. I got a build your own salad with zesty avocado dressing and chicken. The portion was huge and very filling. The vegetables were crisp and I loved that I could have the salad chopped. I can't wait to go back and try more flavor combinations. The only reason I didn't give five stars was the fact that the ordering process was a little intimidating. The person who made my salad did not any questions along the way so I was confused about what to add at which step of the process. My salad wasn't hopped immediately since there was a queue of salads waiting to be chopped. Because my salad got added to the queue I didn't get the chance to add any "crunch" to my salad but it was delicious without the added crunch. Delicious! I know it's only a salad but it was so good!! This place is basically like chipotle for salads and sandwiches (the sandwich thing is nothing new). I think the way they chop all your salad items and then toss it the dressing and top with any crunchy bit you've chosen makes all the difference. All the salad bites are the same size, which makes eating it delightful (no big salad chunk to contend with), and the natural juices from the salad toppings mix together with the dressing-it really was so good!
