I came here with three of my girlfriends for a post exam celebration and it blew away our expectations. Our server was attentive and very accommodating. I'm writing review as I lay on my bed not able to move from how full I am from my dinner at Chela! First off the atmosphere was great, the staff were so nice along with the owners. Marty & his team made us feel at home and like we were family. The restaurants decor was really awesome. The place also pretty big with lots of seating. Def good for parties of about 10+ for dinner. The noise level was good too, went with just one friend and we were able to have a nice conversation over dinner without any trouble hearing each other. Now onto what has induced this food coma. We started out with three appetizers: ceviche, chicharrones and street corn (technically a side dish. All three were delicious! The chicharrones was topped with cheese & Pico de Gallo which made it even more yummy. Then for our main courses we ordered the two different enchiladas on the menu. One was seafood with a cream based sauce & topped with friend calamari. I loved every bite! The other enchilada was the duck with mole sauce which was surprisingly my favorite. Their mole is out of this world and the taste of the duck also made the dish the star of the show. I'm super full right now but I'm craving it again haha! To drink I ordered the "I burnt my tortilla" - it was made out of smoke mezcal, i posted how they serve the drink. It tastes so Smokey but smooth at the same time. Soooooo goood!! Visiting Brooklyn and was craving tacos. After visiting a different establishment for a breakfast taco and being incredibly disappointed, we found Chela on Yelp. It's pretty damn cold for this Florida girl so we wanted to sit inside for a late lunch. They took our temperature on arrival and made us feel safe. The classic margaritas hit the spot, the strawberry marg hit even better. We got three tacos a piece and all were delicious, but the Arabes taco stood out. Absolutely fantastic and I wish I got more of them. The guac is on point and the fresh fried warm chips are the step up. The side of plantains was surprisingly good. Great food, but don't appreciate some newer updates I've seen overtime and service could be improved. Hands down the best chicken tacos I've had in Brooklyn. They used to have this on the taco Tuesday menu, but I was told that they received several complaints that it was "too spicy" from certain customers so it's no longer on it (wasn't worth removing it in my opinion). My friend is undeniably obsessed with the Cabeza tacos. I would give them five stars but important cons bumped this down to a solid 4 stars (arguably 3.5): - a couple of the waitresses who served us didn't have the best attitudes. I looked passed it because Henry (host) was so nice so it helped to smooth the discomforts of dealing with some of the eye rolls I caught on the side or clearly annoyed body language of a younger waitress... - there is one waitress that is so efficient and always on it. I wish I knew her name, but will update this review if I ever remember or find out. She's the best staff member I've come across at chela! - they started adding corn and peas to the rice and beans, which breaks my heart. I feel like there was WAY too much of both in the rice I had the last couple visits and it honestly takes away from the authenticity of the classic Mexican rice and beans I used to ENJOY from them. If you liked Rachel's you're definitely going to LOVE Chela! This place is seriously my new favorite spot in Park Slope. My friend and I decided to give it a try and we fell in love with the place; from the decoration to the drinks and their amazing and kind staff team. I had never tried tacos with cheese before, and let me tell you it was seriously the most delicious thing I have ever tried. Mike, our server, was so helpful and kind. He helped us with the menu and offered the best service. Thank you Mike (aka Marv) lol But now let me tell you about the drinks... Ronny is seriously the most amazing bartender. He creates magic with every drink he makes. If you're looking for a different type of drinks (not the regular margaritas that you can get at any other Mexican restaurant) this is seriously the place you're looking for. Chela's drinks menu offers the most delicious drinks; drinks that you thought might never exist! They have it all! Made reservation for a big group for a birthday party on a Saturday night. It was a bit annoying at first due to the fact that we had to wait 15-20 min for our table to be cleared and set up. Once we were seated, things fell right into place. We were attended to multiple times despite the fact that half of our party showed up late. Pros: the attentiveness of staff and their friendly and great vibes, the drinks and the food. Majority of the people in the group ordered salmon entree. My bf ordered seafood enchilada. Both were absolutely delicious. We also ordered calamari. My least favorite might have to be the chicken quesadilla (i don't think it was bad, i personally just wasn't a fan of the ingredients in the quesadilla) Cons: the time it took for us to wait for our table (just a small annoyance but the rest of the night made up for this) Overall, our time in Chela was great and fun! This place was amazing it's a bit small/ cozy the food is amazing!!!! The guacamole was delicious but very small and for the price pretty expensive. It's shareable for 2. The drinks seem light but they'll sneak up on you once you get your second cup lol. The staff were really nice and friendly. I had a great experience at Chela. The staff was very pleasant and attentive the whole time. They made sure to check in and refill our water regularly. They also provided complimentary chips and salsa. Then when we received our food it was well presented AND tasted delicious. We got the sweet plantains, shrimp flautas and chicken tacos and it all tasted great! Definitely plan on returning one day and maybe trying other things on the menu :). My 3rd visit at Chela and it keeps getting better! :) It's not easy to accommodate a large party during a pandemic/restrictions due to Covid but Chela did that for my family. My cousin made brunch plans on a very short notice and then pushed the time back the day of! DANA helped my cousin via email and even checked in afterwards to make sure everything went well!!! We were very grateful (my cousin is sucker for hospitality). Our server ENRIQUE was the best!! We had a little mishap with his tip and we fixed it asap!!! I have been here to Chela numerous times with my hubby, girls night and group celebrations. Everything from drinks and food is amazingly delicious and always an enjoyable experience. But the stand out besides everything else is the customer service. I don't want to give TMI but would like to share. My husband John and I decided to have a private bereavement dinner just the two of us. We walked in after a long sad day and Ronnie welcomed us with open arms immediately. I explained why it has been a long while so he made sure to sit us right away and ordered us a round of mezcal margaritas. Next we ordered our appetizers which consisted of the Crispy Calamar Azteca and Chela fries with chorizo. Main entree for hubby Camarones Huatulco in pineapple and for myself the Ribs Torta Oaxaquena. We are now both in a peaceful flavorful food bliss. The weight of stress has lifted away ahhhhhhh so good! Second round of drinks and dessert make for a restful night for sleep that we had both looked forward to. Believe all the great reviews you read on here. My friend and I decided to venture to this place after our escapade at Other Half. (It was about a 10-15 min walk for us) We were greeted by a very friendly crew and immediately seated. We immediately got nachos and salsa and shortly afterwards Mike came over to take our orders. Everything on the menu seemed delicious. Of course, we had major FOMO, but Mike was very informative and helped us narrow our choices down. My friend and I shared the Market Fresh Ceviche (which was squid & shrimp). Everything was so fresh and the sauce was absolutely delicious. We then got the corn esquites and market fish (branzino). Do you know that food dance you do when you have really good food? Well, that's what we did throughout our whole meal. I'm super picky with seafood, but I was truly impressed with the quality and how it was prepared. Everything had the right amount flavor to it. Finally, we get to dessert. I thought I didn't have room, but I'm glad I made some. The churros, OMG. It comes with chocolate sauce, but honestly I could've had it plain. It was so damn good. It has vanilla filling and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. (Not overwhelming at all). Overall, my experience was great. The staff was super nice and extremely attentive. There wasn't a time that my cup was empty. I was constantly getting refills of water and I never had to wave down the waiter for anything. Everything we ordered was delicious. I arrived to spot about 20 minutes before my friend and sat at the bar. I love a good cocktail so I decided to indulge in happy hour until my friend arrived. Off the bat, my cocktail was delicious and was hopeful my food would seal the deal as well. We started off with the queso fundido that was amazing!! I ordered the fish tacos and my friend ordered the seafood enchilada....OMG! Both dishes were very flavorful, filling and delicious! The staff from the hostess, to the bartender (I think he name was Carlos) and our waitress (think her name Leena or Nina) were very nice, attentive and accommodating! I enjoyed this spot so much that I went back less than a week later! I haven't been back since that overdose in less than a week but it's not for anything short of becoming a Chela fein! Chela was a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Park Slopes with a great atmosphere and serious eats. We had a late lunch with some friends on the weekends. The space is large for Park Slopes. We tried the following: Tacos con Cochinita- slow roasted pork with sweet plantains. This was delicious super juicy and flavorful. Camarones Hautulco- Jumbo Shrimp with pineapple and mango served inside a carved pineapple. This was delicious the shrimp is sweet and very refreshing, it's a pretty dish as well. Steak and avocado Tlayuda- I've never had this dish before but I was truly impressed, it was like a gigantic taco packed with steak and avocado. We served it cutting into slices and eating like a pizza. Drinks: Paloma- grapefruit and tequila, this is delicious but dangerous as you don't really think you're drinking alcohol. Wow where to start... first make a reservation on the weekends because it's packed and rightfully so. Ok the food is authentic and amazing tasting! It's not Rachel's fast food it's a well oiled machine the owner is the chef and man he can cook. The drinks are amazing and the bartender Carlos makes killer drinks and is super friendly. I frequent a lot of cute restaurants around the Brooklyn and nyc area and this spot will be my new go to spot. Let's start with the margaritas. They are excellent, they taste like they are made with love and good quality tequila. The food was really good. They give you nachos and salsa at the beginning of your meal. The waiters are very consistent and they kept the drinks flowing and the water pouring. The bus boys were very quick to clean up anything and I really appreciated that. The decor of the place is also very nice. The kitchen is exposed and the lighting is beautiful. In the back of the restaurant there is a garden like seating and it's beautiful.
