Originally was fine for storage but over time the service severely declined. Within a period of 2 months went from monthly, to quarterly, to yearly pricing. Completley unresponsive to any kind of communication and I eventually moved my wine to a new facility. I feel lucky to have gotten out. We recently moved in to this area and I must say that after visiting a number of wine stores around here, this is the best one in the neighborhood! They have a great selection of wine and champagne. The service is impeccable. The staff is always very friendly and super helpful. Pedro always takes time to listen to your needs and recommends the best wines based on your budget. Great little wine shop, divided by region, with a lot of options for just about every pallet. I popped in to see if they had a specific Riesling I'm trying to track down...and after just a minute a sales clerk came over to ask if I needed help. Unfortunately they didn't have the bottle I was hoping for but he was able to suggest another bottle made in the same year and had the same level of sweetness. Price point was good, I'm pretty sure that bottle was $14.99. The guy who helped me out definitely knew his stuff, as I looked around I noticed him helping out several customers - all who then made purchases. Chelsea Wine Vault is a little out of the way for me to go on a regular basis to pick up wine but I wouldn't hesitate to visit again when I'm in the neighborhood. Then again... they do host several [free] wine tastings a month ... sooo maybe I will be visiting again sooner than I thought. read more

This is a lovely wine store located in the heart of Chelsea Market, I love how organized and well maintained it is. I've been here a few times and they carry a wide variety of different wines with a wonderful higher-end selection. The wines can be on the pricier side but this is what you should expect in one of NYC's most expensive neighborhoods. Love that they also sell gift wrapping and wine accessories if you need to purchase a gift! They have chilled wine as well which is great if you want to grab a bottle to take up to the Highline. Also, now that Chelsea Market allows for open container within the market they have a variety of canned wines and cocktails to-go. They offer wine classes and have a tasting room attached to the store which I haven't participated in but would definitely check out their website for any upcoming events. read more

Lately, I have been shopping at wine shops and well they are not all created equal. This one by far is in my personal top 5 of best wine shops in the city. Why, you ask? I am forever looking for places where they carry a good "concealed" container for alcohol, so I can do some outdoor drinking. No, I have not resorted to a personal flask...yet. I like to drink Sophia sparkling champagne that is packaged in a pretty pink aluminum can. No one will ever know you are imbibing on alcohol in public! The cinch to this place is that they only had the Sophia cans at room temp, and when I asked if they had any chilled ones, they told me they could chill it for me in 4 minutes. Last week I went to Jean-Georges for lunch and I had French Wine on my mind. I walked by Chelsea Wine Vault and asked the beautiful woman at the front desk "where are your French Wines?" She points to a huge sign that says "FRENCH WINES". A guy comes around the counter and we start talking about the different wines from France in the store. Really helpful and he steers me towards a bottle that I would have not chose without his assistance. The people are very nice. They really know their stuff. Every week, they offer free wine classes and some wine classes are specific that they charge $75 for (ie. reislings and wine and cheese pairings). I'm personally a sweet wine fan and one of the employees was also nice to teach me in what to look for when looking through wines. You should stop by and chat with them because they're really nice, friendly and you can learn a lot. read more

I would give this place 7 stars if I could. I'm definitely a regular, and although their wine sold at retail is marked up higher than I've seen elsewhere, the classes and staff more than make up for it. Plus, this is a great one-stop-shop for a great wine-related gift. There are plenty of accessories, bags, and trinkets to satisfy any gift-giving occasion. I learned recently that CWV is in the building that used to be the Nabisco Factory, which is a fun fact, and not at all relevant. But still pretty cool. Unfortunately, the cookie smell no longer permeates the space. I've been to several wine tasting/education classes, and I've tried over 100 wines here, and I have to say, the wino in me is always impressed and satisfied. Wine classes during the week can be a bit pricey - sometimes up to $75/person - but for a less expensive option, try the Weekend Wine School, or pick up a Wine Gym or Monthly Wine Tasting pass. It will more than pay for itself. John is my favorite instructor. He's funny, experienced, and is happy to answer questions. If you're going, say hi to John, and tell him I sent you! read more

If you really want someone not to touch your bottles, you should make a case for them, since they are so rare. The problem is not the product, it's the service... if you come up to me with a smile and explaining why we can not touch something it would be different. Bit when you come up taking bottles from my hand with a look on your face and the best explanation is "you need our help to touch these"... again, it's all about customer service and everyone was great except for her. They have a very good selections of wines from around the world in this ultra crowded, super touristy wine and spirits shop located in the human sardine can called the Chelsea Market. The staff here are always helpful and chances are you'll find what ever you're looking for here. They also have a small selection of spirits as well. I'd rate it higher but prices here are so obnoxious that you'll seriously pay double here than most liquor stores in the city. You're paying inflated tourist prices here. Chelsea Wine Vault is a great place to pick up a gift or something for yourself! The staff is very knowledgeable about different types of wine and spirits. They're friendly and never condescending, especially if you know zilch about what you're looking for. I recently stopped by to pick up a single malt whiskey scotch for a friend -- I know absolutely nothing about whiskey because it's not my first choice of liquor. The lady who helped me was quite helpful and showed me the different brands they have. She recommended one that is "hot" right now and my friend (who is a big whiskey drinker) absolutely loved it! The store is very organized and I love to just walk around sometimes and read about the different wines they have. They also have these cute mini champagne bottles that I'm looking forward to gifting to my girlfriends someday! I love this place. I've passed by it a number of times (I frequent Chelsea Market). We came here for a wine tasting class - Weekend Wine School. It was only $25 which I think was a steal given we got the equivalent of somewhere between 2 - 4 glasses of wine. I'd recommend getting there a bit early if you want to make sure to get seats together. It's probably not too hard to sit together if you're on a date, but we were 4 people so it definitely made a difference. The guy who taught the class was extremely knowledgeable, or so it seemed to our group. We learned a lot about the different types of wines, regions where grapes are grown, the process of making wine...all the things you'd expect to learn in a class like this. Also, if you take a class you get a discount, at least 10%, on any bottle in the store. They have some really nice stuff so it's a great place to get a discount. You may want to buy a bottle of something you tried if you particularly enjoyed it. Otherwise, the guys (and girls) there will happily assist and recommend something. read more

Beware. Their pricing is wildly off. At first I was excited that this place seemed to be revamped from a couple of years ago and they have a much wider selection than they used to. Then I started noticing the pricing. At first I thought it was an anomaly with a few bottles. But then I started to notice that almost everything was marked up way higher than it should be. I would encourage anyone buying (especially the high end stuff and champagne) here to make sure they do their research first. A 5 to 10 dollar difference is reasonable among manhattan stores, but in this case it was usually way more. I saw so many prices that were up to 20-30% more than they should be. If they think this is a good long term plan they are mistaken. The internet exists and people buying good wine know what the prices should be. I hope they get their heads screwed on straight soon. read more

Went to a tasting class this weekend (West Coast Wines). It was GREAT! The teacher was just great, he was very free and easy going but very informative at the same time. He gave you a lot of very interesting information, clearly very knowledgeable...the class was really informative and fun and airy at the same time. Excellent wine store with a fantastic selection and the people knew what they were doing. It's a wine-lover's haven! The people who worked there were professional, friendly and helpful. For example the Oregonian Pinot Noir, they had a whole section of it. Premium pinot noir selections from $20-$60 or more per bottle. I loved Oregonian Pinot Noir for they are deeper and more bold than the French counterpart. That's when I knew they were good. They knew what's hot and what's not in the wine world. I ended up with the 2008 Four Graces Pinor Noir, Willamette Valley. The friendly gentleman told me it was one of the best he had tasted. The lady at the register skillfully removed the price tag from the bag and wrapped it up nicely in the gift bag I bought without me asking. That's great service! read more

I'll admit it, I'm a wine snob. Whether it's a 2005, Robert Mondavi, Chardonnay Reserve to a 2001 Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo Monprivato, it will be analyzed, tasted, and indulged. It is for this reason, that my short and unproductive voyage to The Lobster Place ended up having me land on the foot steps on the Chelsea Wine Vault. Pros: - Great Wine Selection! - Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff - Excellent Inventory - Great Cellaring Service - Slightly Below Average Prices. Cons - None! The place is just that good! My voyage into the Chelsea Wine Vault started with a quick analysis of the Italian Wine Selection. There, I was able to discover two items that greatly caught my attention. 1) 2001, Il Pallazone, Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva: $129.99 2) 1967, Giacomo Borgogno, Barolo: $199.99 Although C.W.V. (Chelsea Wine Vault) did not possess any of the Mascarello's, I deeply enjoy and appreciate (both Giuseppe & Bartolo), the selection itself did not disappoint. I took both of the bottles mention above. Who can blame me, I'm a collector with my own cellar. Now, off to France. Not literally of course. The France collection @ the C.W.V. had varietals ranging from modest priced Burgundy's to more moderately priced Bordeaux's. Of course, I'll focus this conversation on a particular bottle that was under lock and key behind a gated fence. For those whom have ventured to the C.W.V., on the right side of the store (upon immediate entry) lies this gated fence where a few bottles of different varietals are kept under lock and key. Since this "vault" was right next to the France section, I couldn't help but peek... To my great surprise, my glare was now focused on a singularity that was housed within the gated confines... - 1995, Chateau Lafitte Rothschild Paulliac, Bordeaux: $669.99 As I stared at this particular bottle for a good 2-3 minutes, one of the managers of the store came by and asked if I would like to see the bottle. After about 3-5 minutes of discussion, I took this one as well. As I dropped by credit card at check out, I just realized that I had dropped $1,000 on 3 bottles of wine!!!! Although the price itself didn't bother me (as all three bottles will mature wisely and be even better than they are now), the concept of dropping 10 C-Notes on 3 bottles of anything scares the daylights out of me. Still, as an avid collector, I felt compelled to have a section 1995 Chateau Lafitte Rothschild in my arsenal. It is with this reason alone, that the purchase was made. As I left C.W.V. apart of me felt as though it stayed within this wine boutique. That's because it did, about $1,000's worth! Still, it was money well spent as the wine selection of this establishment caters to all patrons. read more

I told him what I was looking for and he gave me a great recommendation that met my price range. Also if you check in on Yelp, you get a 10% discount. The staff is super friendly. Not only is there a great selection to peruse, but they offer really fun and informative classes about wine grapes and regions. While I don't live in the Chelsea area, I often find myself longing for a trip to the Chelsea Wine Vault to browse the varietals from all types of regions. From Slovenia to France to Australia to South Africa, this place is on their game. I definitely recommend springing for a $25 wine class. Staff is always super helpful and friendly. Occasionally they carry Dr. Konstantin Frank, a Finger Lakes vineyard that makes an excellent Riesling. I'll be honest, Wines intimidate me. (Where do I begin?!) I can thank Chelsea Wine Vault for holding my hand as I took my first tottering steps towards a whole new world of inebriation. The easy-going and knowledgeable staff hold court over sampling tables; just inside the door. My anxiety washed away as I downed a tasty cup and I listened to the staff expertly explain the selection. In the past, I've selected wines with the "Oooh, I like that label's design" method of wine selection, with mixed results (and mixed drinks). Luckily the staff at Chelsea have been kind enough to write detailed descriptions of a healthy cross-section of their stock. On the Australian rack, I spied a wine description that dropped my jaw. Two Hands' 2005 Barossa Valley Shiraz held " ...notes of Horse Leather, Smoke and Dark Fruit...". (I was a little disappointed that Burning Villages hadn't made it onto the card.) The name of the wine? Ares. It's like a Derek Jarman film in a bottle! read more
